  1. Oh boy here's hoping I do this justice. I'm not entirely sure if you're asking me to integrate these answers into the story, or if it's like a.. quiz of sorts, but here goes nothing: Mining aside, Xiv would be trained in construction, perhaps architecture, maybe even demolition to help clear their routes. He'd be able to create and help set up the plasteel reinforcements used on the tunnels. Xiv is relatively indifferent about Zo'ra, though It is one of the many who reject their claim of rule over the K'lax. Its not fond of C'thur Vaurcae, bandwagoning on the political beliefs of some of the unbound It associates with. Its interaction with the other races would be somewhat limited to those that reside on Tret. As with most of Its hive, It generally dislikes humans. Its feelings toward Unathi would be mixed, steering clear of the Sk'akh who visit, but otherwise somewhat warm. As for the others it would be on an individual basis, though Xiv would probably keep to Its own. This one about the Queen feels like a bit of a trick question. From my understanding the general belief of the K'lax is that the original High Queen is dead and the other Sub Queens are pushing Zkaii'xay'yil to take her place. It sounds like she doesn't want to do this, however, because her and her brood believe that if their VR (which they see as a piece of Mother K'lax's mind) is still intact it means the Queen is still alive. It would most likely share this belief. I super appreciate the suggestion, by the way. Finding a way to tie it all in has been a pain in the ass. Edit: I've gone and tweaked the story to make some things a little more clear and to include some of these answers to the best of my ability.
  2. I did some reading on Tret itself and it says there are mining colonies on the planet that the hives encroach on. I'm updating my story to include what I've learned.
  3. Don't apologise, it's actually incredibly helpful. Gives me a chance to flesh my story out better honestly. Dead answered real well, but I wanted to expand on the other questions. As far as I know, non-vaurca don't live in the hive. I think this is poor wording on my part, as the lore page for this particular brood says, or insinuates, that they have access to the machinery from the mining companies that are around. I took it as meaning that perhaps there were non-vaurca workers present (though not particularly in the hive), but now I'm thinking they may be lent the equipment. It's not clear, but that makes a little more sense imo. As for why he chose NanoTransen. You're right. I probably need to explain that better. From my understanding, the workers in this brood usually end up offering their services to the companies on the planet, and it would just be happenstance that he was sent to be that station in particular.
  4. BYOND Key: Toska Character Names: Sioz Leksaruk, Tsezar Kondrati, Khiani Tavakhir, Xurim'qrrvol Qilgulzi Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Ta'Akaix'Zkaii'xay'yil K'lax unbound worker (RGB 51, 81, 21) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: I find their lore incredibly fascinating. I’ve never been particularly fond of bugs, but ants and their colonies have been an exception. The connection they have with their queens is touching. I also enjoy the distinct differences not just between each hive, but between each brood within the hive as well. Not to mention that they are fairly under-represented on station. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Mechanical differences aside, Vaurca are wildly different to humans on a biological level. They’re giant insectoids who require an entirely different chemical to even breathe. Some are mindless drones, little more than living synthetics set to do specific tasks, while others have the ability to think and feel much like the other races. They have a caste system not dissimilar to ants or bees, with Warriors and Workers doing their respective duty for the benefit of the hive. Vaurca are very hive oriented. It’s all for the betterment of the hive, something you don’t get with the other races. Character Name: Ka’Akaix’Xiv Klax Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs. As with most Vaurcae, Ka’Akaix’Xiv’s life began relatively quickly. Being Unbound meant It was given a entire six months to fully develop, a privilege bound are denied. Following Its hatching day It was implanted with its neural socket, just like all the others of Its caste, and thrust into another six months of training in Ta'Akaix'Zkaii'xay'yil K'lax VR. There it developed a love for machinery and architecture, training alongside Its fellow workers to help with the hives ever-growing expansion project. However, the VR being predominantly used to train the Subqueens’ Za, Xivs’ time there was short and after It turned one It was disconnected and put to work in the labyrinthine caverns of Tret. Ka’Akaix’Xiv spent much of Its time assisting with reinforcing the tunnels dug by the Bound, occasionally helping with directing the drones to different sections that needed excavation. When It wasn’t enthralled with Its work, Xiv would offer Its assistance to the nearby outposts. It saw it as mutually beneficial for both parties. The Outposts gained an extra hand and It was given an opportunity to study the various equipment available. Much like many of Ta'Akaix'Zkaii'xay'yil’s brood, It had a nagging curiosity and fascination with machinery. This made Xiv very unpopular with the locals, who would rather their tools stay as they were. Its goal was to improve upon the designs by taking apart and piecing different tools together, creating Frankenstein-esque contraptions. It took little heed of the increasing ire it was garnering from those residing at the outposts, and instead spent a good deal of Its time avoiding the general population as a whole. The few interactions It did enjoy with Its neighbours were with the Unathi, save for the Marazites that could be found wandering the hive on occasion. Ka’Akaix’Xiv was one of the many who offered themselves to be shuttled off to work for NanoTransen. It did not care for being away from Its new home, but what funds the Za and Ka could bring in were a welcomed boon to the colony as a whole. Many of the hives, C'thur exempt, struggled financially since settling, and Xiv was proud to contribute to the pool alongside Its siblings. With Its history in the tunnels, Its capability with EVA, and construction prowess, Xiv was a perfect fit for the mining and research vessel NSS Aurora. What do you like about this character? Xiv is different compared to most of the characters I have in personality. He’s overly curious, pokes at things, tries to understand how it all works. He takes new things in with awe and wonder, something I don’t get to practice quite as much on station. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I’m alright, I’d say maybe.. 7/10. There’s always room for improvement. Notes: Feedback is welcomed. Incredibly welcomed. I struggled with the story a bit and am readily willing to change things around if need be.
  5. I agree with a lot of points that DeadLantern.. Well pointed out. The backstory is lacking, it seems very 2-dimensional to me and very little is explained. There is no real driving force to the character in my opinion other than "she loved this man and this man alone". Really that's all the entire thing seems to be about from my perspective. It seems to me the story focused much too heavily on the 'Wife Competitions' that Unathi carry out and little else. Your explanation for why she killed the husband instead of sneaking away still makes little sense to me. Her cursing the lover makes no sense to me either, seeing as he did try to seek out her hand. It appears that she's a female who doesn't enjoy typical Unathi ways (and there's nothing wrong with that), but as DeadLantern pointed out it is confusing that she would continue on with them in that manner only to then resort to such a drastic action. She didn't rebel against it at any point, or act out against it in any way, except for the end. The husband shouldn't, and most likely wouldn't, have been cruel to her. In fact she would have been treated fairly well for fear of causing a war or conflict with her clan. I really really want to touch on the Guwan thing. I don't think any Unathi would ever willing name themselves Guwan. Ever. It is the most shameful name to have. Why would she name herself Guwan when she could just take up a name of her choosing? Literally anything else. Naming herself as such actually limits her possibilities outside the planet as well. It's the name of a criminal and as far as I am aware it means she can't take up certain jobs aboard the Aurora. This part is what bothers me the absolute most about this application. It comes off as you wanting to make a strong-willed female, who happens to also be a Guwan, to stir things up with non-Guwan males on station. It is probably not even your intention, it's just how it comes off to me. I've only ever roleplayed with your characters a handful of times so I can't really comment on that. But from a lore prospective I don't think it can pass just yet. There are a lot of amazing things in the lore that could be utilised better and I think her character needs to be fleshed out a little more. As it stands she almost sounds like a sociopath, as murder is not generally the first idea that comes to mind in an uncomfortable situation.

If other, replace line and specify.) Overview of the Incident: Tauki Mahririn and Razil Rhujanovic were in the bar as were the offenders, Hana Sato and Devard Stanfry. Tauki was getting drinks when Hana Sato began making blatantly racist remarks to her. Tauki moved to sit on the other side of the bar and the two offenders followed, sitting beside her. There they began making comments about touching her, petting her fur, and calling both her and Razil kittens, cats, and other slurs. They continued to harass the pair, making comments relating Tajara to trash, animals, and other lowly beings. At the end of the shift, Hano Sato made a comment to "her Tajara friends" offering to introduce her pet cat to them so long as "they don't give it fleas". Both Hana and Devard followed Tauki and Razil to the bar on the Odin and continued to harass them, claiming it was alright for them to be racist towards Tajara based on things that happen on Adhomai. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: Kristen Leach, Head of personnel. Actions taken: None. Multiple attempts were made to contact the Head of Personnel with no response. Additional Notes: Even onto the Odin they followed Tauki and Razil, harrassing them and showing off their armband. They open admit to being racist and use the band and party as an excuse.

  8. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Toska Character Name(s): Tsezar Kondrati, Sofya Mrrazhiikani, Sioz Leksaruk are the ones I play most AI Name(s): N/A Preferred means of contact: Discord, Skype and steam if needed. Age: 26. Timezone: PST (UTC-08:00) When are you on Aurora?: Just about all the time when I’m not working. Experience How long have you played SS13?: I’ve been playing on and off for about a year now. How long have you played on Aurora: Collectively.. 4 or so months I believe. I’ve lost track at this point. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I’d say quite a bit. Still learning new things, I could learn engineering/atmos/telecoms as I’ve not played around with that yet. Anything I don’t know I’m willing to pick up however. Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Not for an SS13 server, but I have experience as a mod for other servers. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: I have not. Personality Why do you play SS13?: I play SS13 for this server in particular, though I do enjoy just how crazy the game can get and the depth it has. Why do you play on Aurora?: The roleplay. I love the interactions with other characters and believe it or not I enjoy the company of quite a few of the players OOC. What do moderators do?: Moderators are there to help. They guide players that need help, warn those that are breaking rules, and are there for people to come to if they need it. They deal with ahelps and do their best to uphold server rules. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: It means setting an example for others. To be a part of the community, uphold server standards, and to help make the game enjoyable for everyone. Why do you want to be a moderator?: I’ve really come to love this server and I think it would be nice to be able to contribute and help keep it running smoothly. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I like to think I’m friendly and approachable, easy to talk to, which helps when communicating directly with players or staff (something that is very important in my opinion). I can remain level-headed and know when to step away from something if I begin to feel that my actions are biased. I’m not afraid to ask for assistance as needed and know that part of being a mod is being firm and following through with what you say. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I think I handle it well. I don’t let insults get to me, as there’s little reason to. It takes a lot to work me up and even then I know to take a step back, breathe, and relax. Anything Else You Want to Add:
  9. +1 The story is decent and he's a consistently good rp'er. I think he'd do Vaurca proud
  10. This isn't necessarily true, and I think it's more of a misunderstand if I'm honest. The Izweski call them "backwards savages" not because of their caste system, but because of their problem with technological advancements. They want control of the planet and used Skrell/human help to further this goal. That's it really. Yes there could be people who don't agree with the government, as you stated, but that doesn't mean they are going to break tradition to express this. That is what makes Unathi Unathi. Even the Ouereans respect old customs, they're just slightly more liberal and understanding than those on Moghes (which, again, has nothing to do with the Izweski and instead is because of humans and skrell). Heck, the Izweski even attacked human/skrell ships orbiting Ouerea because they wanted those people under their rule as well. The problem is that so far it's been a little far-fetched. That is what most have been pointing out. Not her clan so to speak, but some of the rest of it. As someone pointed out, it's odd she is ok with being a Guwan when it is the worst thing that can happen to an Unathi. It's odd that a female is allowed so much education, money, etc. If she's visiting librarys (Especially one called "The Great Moghean Library" it is probably in Izweski territory. If this is the case, she is subject to Izweski rule right? I know you said you like the lore, but hate how they fall under a single Archetype. I can respect trying to break the mold and do something different, but they are that Archetype for a reason. It's not because the lore is too loose, but because it is so specific that they are forced into similar behaviors across characters. It's what makes them them. Male characters are all generally going to be very honor-bound while females are milder and do not do fighting/listen to the patriarchy, etc etc. That is just how Unathi are.
  11. The Izweski don't have Ouerean ideals. The reason Ouereans think the way they do is because of the human and Skrell that inhabited the planet with them. The Izweski still have the same social caste/gender superiority system that the Traditionalists do. The biggest point of contention between the groups is the rapid modernization of technology, that the Izweski were/are capitalizing on to subjugate the other major clans, because of human/skrell contact. This alone states that there is a cultural rift between the Hegemony and Ouereans. If their beliefs were the same, why would it be difficult for them to reintegrate together? Ouereans are essentially Unathi with human and skrell ideals.
  12. While I understand the idea of "rebellious child/teenager" I feel that the way Unathi are brought up from a young age (especially in traditionalist families) puts a limit on just how rebellious one would behave. Angsty outbursts would but little more than just.. angsty outbursts. Females especially are shoe-horned into a specific role in society (on Moghes anyway) and while they can want more or disagree with their family or beliefs it's unlikely they wouldn't just keep their head down and follow along regardless. I'm still not understanding how she has a fund to begin with. Females don't work on Moghes, and unless she is stealing it in general I'm not really certain where the credits are coming from. I wasn't questioning how much she was making, I was questioning how she was making credits period. I see where you're coming from now, but why would she be allowed to further educate herself outside of these lessons? Others would see her in this Great Library and it would raise problems with more than just her family. Remember, Females are discouraged or downright forbidden to seek higher education in such a way. Most institutes like this were run by clans or guilds to my understanding and it was only recently that schools and such even started opening up to allow others outside the clan/guild to attend. This furthers the question on how she was given the opportunity to go out and educate herself if her father is as controlling as he's made out to be. Why would he let her wander off alone? Wouldn't she be made to stay and learn how to behave as a proper female if she's shown consistent signs of not doing so? Unathi place a heavy emphasis on their social structure and it feels like this is being omitted in some way throughout the entire thing. I can see that you've done research, I wasn't exactly saying you hadn't, but it still feels like you aren't getting what makes Unathi Unathi. This application is better than the first, I don't want it to seem like I'm just here trying to shit on the application (quite the contrary, I'm trying to give constructive criticism), but there is something about the character that just.. doesn't come off as Unathi to me.
  13. Popping in to confirm that it is a collaborative effort, and that we did get a lore dev's ok to do this. We took two characters who were related and shared similar situations and attempted to show two different views to the events unfolding around them. +1 because he's a better roleplayer than he gives himself credit for. He stays in character, doesn't let IC bleed into OOC or vice versa, and shows a good understanding for lore when interacting with others.
  14. I've never gotten to directly rp with either characters, but I see Diamond with Flaw around fairly frequently and have had no issues with their RP. However I think my biggest issue with the whitelist is the idea of a Guwan, who (to my understanding) are now pretty much fairly bad criminals, being hired as Security for a big company. Logically it doesn't make much sense to me for them to hire someone with a criminal background into a position where they have access to munitions and such. I'm also not certain how a Moghean raised Unathi has Ouerean ideals and while I don't think it's impossible I feel like perhaps it is a little more unlikely to the extent she seems to exhibit. I'd also like to point out (though perhaps I'm getting a little nitpicky) that Moghean females don't work, and instead are more like housewives. In this situation I'm not really certain where she is getting the funds to save up and leave. On Moghes they are almost like materials that others own, little more than tools. Her being able to go and educate herself would be next to impossible, as females are basically denied this. Reading and writing is mostly a males job, so I'm not entirely certain why her Traditionalist family is breaking Unathi tradition to teach her these things. Overall I feel that there is a very basic understanding of the species, and I can appreciate unique characters, but there comes a point where one can think too far out of the box and it comes off as breaking lore to fit them into a role they probably really don't belong in.
