Cargo Technician (4/37)

  1. Just differentiate fail deadly blast doors. Do it only in places where absolutely necessary.
  2. +1. Change it to something else and put a camera in the damned room.
  3. I think the breaking into atmospherics thing is something that could be fixed by replacing the nitrogen in storage with phoron, or by sequestering canister storage to a shared space. I think the impasse that we're coming to is this: For newcomers, setting up the SM is already hard and already dangerous. The lack of competent engineers on a low-pop means the engine generally doesn't get setup, as easy as it is. But for those who are thoroughly versed in the engine, it just seems easy, it's set-it-and-forget-it. I think it's going to be difficult to find a solution that pleases both people. Maybe add in something that's high-risk but optional. Leave the engine as is, but find a way to crank more power out of it if you want to in a way that is higher risk. Maybe have some kind of more fine-tuned control to push the temperature higher, thus squeezing more power out of it. If there is a way to do that, maybe document it better.
  4. You know I'm going to +1 this. C'mon, it'd be awesome.
  5. Here's another idea, and this one's kinda interesting. Have the supermatter to where you have just the inlet and outlet pipes, and you have to set up the generator, filter setup, and atmospherics. The way to offset this in terms of time would be to have the main grid SMES charged higher.
  6. I agree that the supermatter is too easy to setup. It takes all of about five minutes and it's easy enough that someone can do it with just some minor guidance, however, I do have a few points of contention. I agree that you shouldn't have to hack into atmospherics for the canisters of phoron. I've made a map suggestion that the two nitrogen canisters in engineering hard storage should be replaced with phoron. I think, while this makes it easier, also makes it more immersive. As for radioactivity, there is no "max" number of times. The radioactivity would effectively debilitate the engineering department, though, if it were to be able to spread past the walls. I could see random heat spikes being a thing. The problem is that the ideal temperature, and the temperature that the super is usually kept at, is somewhere between 1600K-1800K. The supermatter is completely stable below 5000K. If you were to have a random temperature spike, with nothing else changed, it either wouldn't change anything at all, or would return to normal fairly quickly, as the supermatter is self-stabilizing when setup correctly. Implementing this wouldn't be difficult in terms of coding, but doesn't make sense in the scope of things. As for engine specialists being the only ones allowed to work on the engine, I feel like this would require a rework of engineering, not that I am opposed to this. You would have engineers, in general, each with specialties. Atmospherics, engine, construction, and you could probably throw another one in there with enough effort. I think that would be a great idea, if executed correctly. Phoron does have some downsides. One that's a double edged sword is that it has an extremely high heat capacity. If you get it hot, it's super difficult to cool it down. In addition, it's highly flammable, which does pose problems in an engine. In terms of decomposing into oxygen and nitrogen, the engine itself produces oxygen and phoron as is. A stable engine should be able to deal with any amount of external gasses provided, through filters. In addition, nitrogen would actually hurt your cause, as nitrogen decreases the reaction. With a current phoron setup, you would likely not be able to get a comfortable medium for phoron itself to break down. Also, phoron is an element and I don't believe it's fissile. I would agree with the atmospherics canisters being empty with one caveat, which is that the engine itself needs startup materials, just like every other thing on station. Here are my suggestions: Make setup more complex. I agree with Zae's idea of adding collectors. You could potentially lower the heat conductivity of phoron with this to balance it. Do it with a randomized multiplier with a control console, with control rods, much like a nuclear fission reactor. That way you have to spend some time finding the sweet spot each shift. Make some sort of fuel, maybe make phoron slowly disappear, meaning you have to add more fuel periodically. Make parts break down, with a console to list parts that are breaking down. That way you have to replace parts as they wear out. Make radiation suits more cumbersome and more immersive. Breath masks, oxygen, the whole lot. Make radiation itself stick on the suits, so that you have to go through a decontamination chamber. Make the reaction slowly decay so that you have to continually fire at it. Make radiation shields to line the walls with, that way the radiation would get out, but you have a way to prevent it.
  7. I love this idea. I can't tell you how many times I've come across something inaccurate on the wiki.
  8. +1. For the sake of transparency, I do know this person IRL, however their roleplay is better than mine, even, and they always play extremely believable, fun, level-headed characters. Their love of bureaucracy makes them an ideal candidate for head of staff.
  9. 1) Replace the nitrogen canisters in engineering hard storage with phoron. Or the ones in the engine room. Don't really need nitrogen to run SOP (wiki-based) engine. Also prevents needing to hack into atmos in order to start the engine and keeps atmos with needed canisters. 2) Engineering bathroom on the sub-level needs to be expanded north and an airlock added in before the showers as with the regular bathrooms. You've got a camera pointed directly at the showers. 3) In the spare office in the south part of medbay, the space cleaner/paper is impossible to get to without throwing yourself into disposals. Shift the table south or move the disposals bin. 4) Add space cleaner to the kitchen. Any kitchen without cleaning stuff would be a health violation irl. 5)Remove the bed from the bartender's backroom, and the coffee machine. Add in more tables to declutter the shaker and grinder on the same tile. 6) More lights in the bar.
  10. -1. For a couple reasons. 1.) I think the food playing into it is effectively moot because on low population rounds, it means that everyone's going to be uncomfortable, probably no matter what. 2.) If it's an equal system and you can get it by either eating food OR sitting in a chair, then that's pointless as well, because a lot of people sit in a chair when they're not busy, it's like second nature. 3.) If people don't care about the speed debuff of hardsuits, they're likely not going to care about pain tolerance. 4.) On low population servers when the sole doctor hasn't had a break all shift, is it really necessary to decrease their pain tolerance? 5.) What's the point of it anyway if it's just paincrit? The people who do these things generally do not care if they're going to be in pain.
  11. Full disclosure, this person and I know each other personally. +1 though. Characters are always believable, well-made, and well-played.

While this in and of itself is morally admirable, it was made over the announcement system. I find this not befitting a member of command and a waste of station resources. Shortly after, the HoP demonstrated the album by leaking the lyrics, once again over the announcement system, along with a plug for his website and a price for the album. Head of Personnel's Desk announcement. Once again, not befitting a member of command, waste of station resources. When asked not to rap over the announcement system, the HoP said that he would, instead, do it over comms. He did not proceed to do it over comms after much pleading. The CV Roanoke incident occured after that point. During the incident, the HoP argued with the HoS about needing riot gear and accused him, sarcastically, of being the "Hotak of the ALA" twice. In my personal opinion, the Head of Personnel was out of line to attempt to tell the Head of Security about his job. Making suggestions such as what to bring and what not to bring is at the discretion of the Head of Security and the Captain. When someone asked what we would do with non-wounded refugees, the HoP joked about killing them. I find this to be, at best, morally reprehensible. During the middle of the CV Roanoke incident, we encountered a giant bug monster. On the second expidition to the glacier, the HoP proceeded to procure a vaurca cargo technician to be a "translator" for a giant bug monster, even going so far as to compare the vaurca and the bug monster in a very negative light. Approximately a half hour later, he claimed that the captain was dead over command radio without evidence when the captain was most certainly not dead, and made sure the HoP was aware afterwards. After suggesting an arrest of the HoS and recieving no response, he suggested shooting the HoS, twice. I find this to be a gross overreach of power. After boarding the emergency shuttle, the HoP told me that I was under arrest "by the way." Then clarified it was not by him, that he was a civilian, that it was not a citizen's arrest, that he does not consent to the arrest, that he's a sovereign citizen, and he's travelling. I was not placed under arrest at the Odin. I find this to be completely out of line. I'm not sure what the latter part of this rant was about, but it made hardly any sense in context. Did you report it to a Head of Department or IAA? If so, who?: Due to the nature of this incident, I was unable to report it to a Head, and there were no IAA as far as I can remember. Actions taken: An injunction in regards to radio messages was written, but not delivered. After much pleading, he did not broadcast more rap. In addition, each situation was given reprimands over the command channel, but it didn't seem to make a difference. Additional Notes: None
  13. Best malf-AI I've ever seen. One of the most entertaining rounds.
  14. Erin and Merr'tala are great characters, and extremely well-played. It's obvious to me that they would make a great unathi by Erin's obsession with them.
  15. BYOND key: Duskofdawn Character names: Zachary Gallagher, Ezra Perry How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Two-ish months Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: To better help the station and to help bring more variety to RP. Why did you come to Aurora?: I wanted an HRP server and was suggested by someone else. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: In their entirety. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is about creating an immersive environment for the sake of entertainment/fun. Creating meaningful and realistic characters, and then creating the relationship between those characters enables us to create an immersive environment, and a fulfilling one. In addition, it allows us to have fun and explore ideas that we might not necessarily explore OOC. While roleplay can be dull and boring, it should not be, and should be about making things interesting (while maintaining a degree of realism) What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The purpose of a head of staff is a couple of things, really. First, they add a sense of realism to the game, as not having command is strange coming from a real-life standpoint. Second, they keep the station running smoothly, and keep it organized, which allows a round to continue and generally keeps the flow of RP. Third, they give players a sense of purpose and something to do, and something to strive for. Without guidance from a HoS, things can and do go wrong a decent chunk of the time. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players to other players is first and foremost to create a rich, immersive RP environment. Whitelisted players should be counted on to provide a level of high-quality RP. In addition, they should be counted on to be responsible and respectful. In order to uphold them, I plan on trying to constantly improve my RP and my skills. In addition, to make things fun for everyone, while maintaining responsibility. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Zachary Gallagher Character age: 50 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Zachary Michael Gallagher grew up on the backwater planet that is Luthien. A dry, desert planet, mainly devoid of life, he watched his family struggle for survival in a cutthroat manufacturing industry. He told himself from a young age that he would not suffer the same fate. His mother and father, ever supportive of their son, scrounged up enough money to send him to Origin University, where he worked and learned, supporting himself through his M.S. in Electrical Engineering. Sadly, his parents passed on during this endeavor, never to see him graduate. As an only child, he was left with no family. Knowing that in order to move up in life, he went to Mars University to train himself in leadership. He worked in various jobs and positions before finding himself working on stations, which he particularly liked, partially because the threat of danger. In addition, as much difficulty as he has with people, he genuinely enjoys helping them. He just doesn't always know how to do it. With no family left, he looks for something to achieve, be it a higher rank, a faster repair, or just a friend to talk to, and he will stop at near-nothing to achieve his goals. What do you like about this character?: I love the fact that, for the most part, he's always looking to get better at what he does. He learns from his mistakes, and is rather relaxed for the most part. What do you dislike about this character?: He has a difficult time handing people, and especially idiots. While he is relaxed, he can get frustrated quite easily. He doesn't enjoy being told what to do, and if he's already doing it and being told to do that thing, he can turn into quite a firecracker. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: He is extremely organized and efficient. He's a problem solver and gets shit done. While he doesn't deal well with people, he's an excellent leader. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would say about 8/10. I've been playing HRP servers for about three to four years now, and RPing for about ten. While I think that I provide high-quality RP, I can always get better. The thing I have the most issue with is repetition, as I tend to be repetitive when too much is going on at once. Extra notes: I understand that I may not be entirely well-known, please don't let that effect your judgement. The position I'm applying for (for the most part) is CE.
