  1. Thank you for the positive words! She just has people she meets call her Ducky. I think she also signs her papers with Ducky, until personnel eventually will yell at her in-game. I'm glad you like the backstop, as well! I put a lot of thought into it!
  2. For a long time, my main character on this server was "Walter Keck," but I have been working hard on developing this new character, Glo 'Ducky' Hanson. If you know of her by now, I'd love to hear feedback, as I really enjoy playing as her and want to develop her to her fullest potential. As for those of you who do not know her, here is the character concept: Glo 'Ducky' Hanson is an individual who graduated from college with an ornithology degree with a minor in journalism. NanoTrasen had a partnership program for college students that she took part in: they paid for her schooling, now she has to work there for five calendar years in return to NanoTrasen. It's a very select program. Ducky has had internships at zoos, taking care of birds, but she currently has one with a NonoTrasen-owned zoo, where once she is done working off her college degree, she will be transferred to, and her new occupation will be head ornithologist. Glo has had the nickname "Ducky" since childhood, as ducks were just always her favorite and she was a blondie, as well. As she was learning to walk, she was also waddling, as most infants do. So, her aunt dubbed her "Ducky." One thing that I really roleplay is the fact that she's plus-sized. The reason why is because I have not seen a lot of people roleplay the weight of a character all that often. For example, heavy footsteps or plopping down into ones' seat. However, I also think that a lot of characters do not talk about their physical appearance in-game, so I thought that'd be something that I could really roleplay and make evident. She also is a lesbian and a vegetarian and her parents do not approve. Right now she lives in a small apartment with her fiancé and her pet cockatiel, Terrance. She has not told her parents that she is engaged, yet. Her drink of choice at the bar is a "bluebird." Some character traits that she has in interactions include: quirkiness, peppiness, encouraging to fellow crew, motherly, and understanding. As a freelance journalist for the station, she has a newscaster channel called, "Ducky's Digest," where she has a variety of posts. She has her bird facts (usually I post one "5 facts about _____" article a shift, unless someone physically requests a second), she has musings (where they are random thoughts that are often silly or existential in nature. Usually stolen from somewhere else I heard them, but in this universe, she made them up), small poems (usually about birds), food reviews (depending on the shift and what she eats. Those food opinions have remained canon for every round after she's reviewed them), and of course the typical story. In general, I try to keep the newscaster interactions very fun and lighthearted if there aren't any stories, as I want her character to be a constant poster of fluff pieces. Thoughts? Comments? Concerns? This character is my new passion project and is much different than that of Walter Keck's, but a character that's actually difficult to roleplay. So, if anyone has interacted with her, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the roleplay and character, if you are reading this and hearing about her for the first time, I'd love to hear your thoughts on the character concept in general.
  3. Hello. I have been an off and on player, constantly. I thought I'd say a bit about my hobby I have been working on: I am a puppeteer in my spare time and made a youtube channel with puppets. The premise is that there are two puppet characters (Mitch the Dragon and Cuatro Fuzzyface) and they live together and share a youtube channel. Right now, there's only two shows I've got going: "Cuatro's Tea Time" (a tea review show) and "Mitchy Science Theater" (a series retrospective of my favorite show, Mystery Science Theater 3000). I've been working hard with it and hope you check it out! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjuU-P0nvZdZsuH_N9P26Xg/featured
  4. Byond key: theiguanaman2 Discord key: Mitch the Dragon#6165 Character Name: Glo Hanson Item name: Cap'n Ducky Item function(s): It would have the same functions as a rubber ducky. It would be able to squeak. Item description: It's the lovable pirate captain, Cap'n Ducky! Why is your character bringing this item to work?: They wish to put this rubber ducky on their desk, as it is one of their favorite possessions (like a bobblehead a secretary would put on their desk). It was given to her by someone incredibly important to her, so she keeps it, almost as a luck token. How did your character obtain this item: This specific rubber duck was given to her by her great mentor in college, who died in a car accident. What value does this item have to your character, and what story does it tell?: Glo Hanson went to college for ornithology and received the nick name "Ducky" from her friends back home and college friends, as she really loved birds, and ducks were her favorite. Her apartment is covered in rubber duckies and different rubber ducky memorabilia. However, her favorite duck is "Cap'n Ducky." Cap'n Ducky was given to her by her mentor in college, who taught her all she needed to know about biology. Her mentor had passed away in a car accident, and this is all she has left of her teacher and mentor. So, she brings it into work as a good luck token, in hopes that the shift will go well. She lets it sit on her desk while she writes her news stories, as if her mentor is watching down, proud of her. Sprites: I do not personally have any sprites. However, I would picture Cap'n Ducky as a normal ordinary rubber ducky sprite, but with a little hat on him. Additional Comments: Since I do not have my own sprites, as I have not learned how to make them, I would understand as to why you would not be able to make a new sprite. And I would not mind if he's a normal rubber ducky that is just added to her load-out. However, I really think the detail making it "Cap'n Ducky" is what makes this rubber duck special to her, out of all of the other rubber ducks.
  5. I like that you all expanded upon this! It would be wonderful to add to the game! It would be good to still be able to feed it the rats and stuff on station, just so it's easier to feed it. And any kind of beef or jerky, really. Stuff you can biogenerate.
  6. The proposition I have is for a new plant seed/item a botanist could grow. I'm referring to a Venus flytrap. This quirky little plant is something I thought would be interesting to throw into the ring for a tryout. As per the lore, the Venus flytrap could have come about as a Venus flytrap from the planet Venus itself. If this idea is not liked, another carnivorous plant could be considered, such as pitcher plants. This could have two implementations into the game. The mechanics in feeding it would be quite simple. It could eat Hamburger meat at a young age. When the plant grows, it could grow pretty big. When it's bigger, it can eat rats. It could also eat bigger animals such as cows and such, but it wouldn't be preferred to do that as a law on the station. The second thing I'd like to discuss is that the plant could be a guard for botany. If the botanist is in danger, it could attack the intruder. I'm not quite sure how to work that into the mechanics. It could even be playable to ghosted players and observers if making it playable is a good idea. I just thought it'd be interesting to bring up because Botany is a fun job, but adding little twists here and there can make it even more fun.
  7. As an avid listener and singer of barbershop music, I must recommend it deeply. I was wondering: does anyone else on this server have an avid love for barbershop music? Because I need some barbershop bonding out here! I'm in a barbershop chorus, two quartets, and always listening! I also sing baritone, so you KNOW I'm serious! Is there anyone else out there?
  8. As far as roleplay goes, it's always interesting to see how people get into character. Some people kinda just play and see what happens. However, I'm wondering what some people do outside the game to play certain characters. I, for example, play detective with a thunderstorm loop and smoldering 40's detective music on in the background while I play because my detective character, Darness Furns, is your typical 40's smoldering detective. Do any of you do things like this?
  9. Hello! I'm theiguanaman2. I haven't played in ages and I apologize for that. However, I have been working on a puppet character, since I do puppetry. Before I make videos, though, I've made a character and a Twitter. I plan to develop the character on Twitter, first. If you're interested in following my character, here is the link to the Twitter: https://twitter.com/Mitchthedragon
  10. I'm theiguanaman2, a user you may know for playing characters such as Walter Keck and Leonard Simpleton. However, off the station, I have a busy life. The first and foremost thing I do, that's more of a lifestyle than a hobby, is musicianship. I'm a musician through and through. This is why you may see me playing SS13 for some a while and then all of a sudden I disappear. I focus on String Bass and tuba, but I dabble in other instruments, mostly other low brass like baritone and trombone. I also am dabbling in flute and violin. I also sing. I will be going to college at some point for a degree in music education and specifically studying the string bass. It's going to be a blast along the way as I learn all I can and get as many experiences. A hobby that I enjoy, for sure, is also theater. I act and do musicals. This goes along with taste. I love musicals to death. I have been in such musicals such as Meet Me in St. Louis, the Drowsy Chaperone, Grease, and the Music Man. I've also starred in small plays, such as an Actor's Nightmare, and I've also been known for doing monologues that bring more contemporary monologues into theatre. For example, I have reworked and done a monologue from Mystery Science Theatre 3000 and I have also done a monologue from Jaws, Quint's Indianapolis Speech. Speaking of theatre, I also enjoy writing plays. I have written a play that has been performed by a high school titled "Sceneception." I didn't get any money for it, but it was great to see it come to life. I directed it, as well. I'm currently working on a project that is similar to Mystery Science Theatre 3000. I wrote a really bad play and am now going to write commentary to be riffed upon that play. It's very exciting for me to finally get to experience this form of comedy myself. Puppetry is something that is very different for someone to enjoy. You don't meet many people that say, "I enjoy puppetry!" However, I really do enjoy puppetry. I've never done anything official and I've just done church puppetry. However, I have gone further into the world of puppetry by being cast in a community theater's production of "Little Shop of Horrors," to puppeteer their plant. So, that's a way to get my hobby off the ground! Lastly, I enjoy Mystery Science Theater 3000. This is something that I put in its own category because that's what caused me to be like I am. My sense of humor came from this show. It's very entertaining and humorous and that's why I'm writing a play with a similar format. Now you know all you need to know about theiguanaman2. Proud of you for reading to the end if you did! Now go do your rp games! Do iiiittttt!
  11. I'm not really a fan of this at all. Namely because I've always loved having that space. That way you don't have to kick people off of the holodeck if you want to conduct a service. Not to mention that What if others wish to use the holodeck to wrestle or play laser tag, but the chaplain is going on and on with a sermon. Would the chaplain's new office have an intercom?
  12. Suggestion: The Chapel Features I know not many people care about the chapel, but for the people who play as chaplain often do care. It boils down to a couple things. The features on the old map that have been taken out (the mass driver, confession booths, larger space) really helped roleplay. The people whom actually worked to roleplay and utilize these features really enjoyed them. I know it's not the most important job, but there's still plenty of people who play as chaplain. Sometimes, I rarely can even get on as Walter Keck sometimes because someone is already on there. People playing chaplain is at an all time high from the past couple months. This last edition to the feedback is just an idea for the chapel and is just about overall experience, but we've all been living without it: an organ for the chapel with some religious tunes transcribed for the game. Only the chaplain would be able to access this. I think that if the chapel has an organ to add to itself, it would be able to improve upon church services with music to go along with. I know the midi files aren't that great and are kinda obnoxious, however, with responsible people playing chaplain and not obnoxious people who just goof off with roleplay, it could make for a great additional experience.
  13. BYOND Key: theiguanaman2 Character name: Oz Auman Item name: Mr. Monkey Why is your character carrying said item to work? Oz Auman had an awful childhood. This Monkey was the comfort of Oz Auman as a child. Oz had an abusive father, and as a child, all he had was his brother and a plush monkey. Oz cross-dressed occasionally as a child, and when his father found out, he'd beat him. However, his brother would always comfort him afterwards because they had a great relationship. However, as a teenager, Oz's brother was an adult and was a sheriff. His brother got shot in the head, and it changed Oz's life forever. They had to make his brother have a different identity and forget his past. So, this also means he doesn't have his real brother any longer. So, Oz had to seek comfort in the toy monkey. Slowly, he became accustomed to the toy monkey and took it everywhere. Slowly, he believed that the monkey was alive. This is more than a gimmick. It's a psychiatric problem that has been caused from an abusive childhood and his only crutch being gone. Item function(s): to be hugged, as a comfort in psychiatrics, as an accessory Item description: It's a calming toy monkey! Item appearance: a blue, plush monkey How will you use this to better interact with crew and/or stimulate RP? This item, while personal to Oz, would help him deal with every day problems. There were times where the crew has thought he was crazy, or treated him like a child. He's the psychiatrist, so he could use it also to comfort patients. He sometimes says Mr. Monkey can fly and he throws him across the room. While this is humorous, it is actually tragic because he actually believes that the monkey is alive because of his past. Mr. Monkey, in a way, is another character, so this always helps show the character's personality. He's a little screwy, but he means well. Additional comments: This item can work for other characters, as well. It doesn't only work with Oz. The item used to actually be in the psychiatric office. So, it was used before they took it. However, Oz utilized it more than most. When the monkey was taken out, I wanted to retire the character by making him become the monkey. However, one thing was that it couldn't happen iccly to make it make sense and also not to mention nobody remembered Oz anymore. However, I really want to still play as Oz and this item is vital to his character because of his past. Not to mention, I actually have somebody play as his brother sometimes, and the two characters interact. It's worse around the brother character because it causes torture inside of Oz. To have the memories in there. And those rounds make him act as if Mr. Monkey is even more alive. The rest of the crew has no idea of this, but there actually is a complex backstory to the toy monkey. While, it started as a random gimmick, I really hated it was a random gimmick, so I made an actual reason for this character and I fell in love with it.
  14. Name: Walter Keck Age: Adult Hair: Green Combover (no facial. Also, if there's no combover, you can find the closest to it.) Race: Caucasian. Really, really white XD Eye Color: Green Body Size: He's pretty fat. I don't care how fat he is made, but when I made him, I made him as fat as you can make him. His head should be a little narrow and his nose is like a potato. Aspirations: Friend to the World Traits: Music Lover, Cheerful, and Good. Relationship Status: Roomate Other: He should have a deep might, but friendly voice. Should have a jolly appearence. Sort of like a Santa Clausy guy. And he wears glasses. Possibly he could wear something like a chaplain jumpsuit. I don't really have a preference.
  15. Hello. I am theiguanaman2. As some of you know, my main character is Walter Keck, the chaplain. And I realized something. Every real life church has a piano and even an organ in there and they play music on there for worship. I wanted to start roleplaying better and maybe starting Sunday services as Keck, but what would make the roleplay better would be a piano or even better with an organ. This organ would only be able to be played by the chaplain, being put behind a door only the chaplain can access. However, one thing I noticed, as well, is that in the library of SS13 transcribed songs that work on the pianos in-game have no religion-related ones to make the chaplain roleplay better. So, my proposition is to have music transcribed for the chapel, as well. Let me know what you think. The feedback is fairly helpful.
