Cargo Technician (4/37)

  1. So I don't necessarily disagree with you, the problem I have is that it runs full circle. The antagonists now EXPECT security to be lenient with them, leading to them doing stupid things like turning themselves in or doing other incredibly obvious things. I understand that we're all here to have fun, but there's much fun to be had in trying to outplay someone. A prime example of this is an AI that hacks every APC on station and makes little legitimate attempt to mask their malfunctioning. A malf AI, according to our lore, is something that is "impossible", so the AI will do anything it wants, knowing that anyone who notices the blatant acts can't act out or else they're meta gaming and valid hunting the AI. A HUGE draw factor about this game is in the subtly. What is the fun if everyone is being incredibly obvious because they know they're safe? This is basically the only server where a space ninja can, in relative safety, jump to the middle of the brig to talk to the HoS. Does it lead to more talking? Yes. Does it lead to more ROLEPLAY? I'd argue no. It just reeks of FailRP. Remember that term you use to hear back in Gmod when you got in trouble for creating a hobo-hideout above ground in darkRP? Well that term translates over to us as well. It's fail RP for a ninja to jump to security in front of all the guards, but we allow it, because anything that's not ending someone's round is considered 'good roleplay'.
  2. This is mostly going to come down to personal preference, but what do you gents think is appropriate when it comes to antags? Let me paint a picture for you. >You're the captain >You go to your office >When you enter the office, you see a man in a medical jumpsuit and gasmask hacking your bathroom door. >He stops when he sees you. Now here's another picture. >You're the captain >You go to your office >When you enter your office you see a man in wizard robes opening your bathroom door. >He stops when he sees you. Did those pictures feel different to you? Because they did to me. On one instance my first reaction is to call security/ pull my gun/ run out of the office, but on the second picture I'm more inclined to stop and discuss with the wizard. This leads to, what I find to be, an incredibly annoying meta where security will constantly provide leeway to major antagonists (see ninja, wizard, etc) until they do something so unforgivable that the security team has no choice but to act. What do you gents think is appropriate? In my opinion, everyone should be treated equally in the eyes of the law, people not wanting to be physical with the wizard for fear of pissing him off and making him go full antag, just doesn't sit right with me. I find that people hide behind the paper-thin excuse of trying not to 'valid hunt' when not only has the antag entered the station illegally, but has also already committed additional crimes during his/her stay, becomes even more non-substantiating when they make minimal attempt to roleplay the situation realistically. All in all, oftentimes the roleplay between security and major antagonists seems to not be organic, and rather a checklist for players to follow in order to ensure that the antagonist doesn't ahelp because "his" round is being ruined.
  3. Oh didn't realize something was already done... heh what a waste of 30 minutes.
  4. I'll respond to this when I get to my computer.
  5. BYOND Key: Biolock Accused Players Byond Key: Astorey456 Time of Act: 0430EST 10/13/2017 Reason reason for report: Breaking AI laws as a slaved cyborg. Explanation: Let me preface this by saying that for a large amount of what justifies this report, I was alive and unable to see robotic chat. The reason I'm writing this rather than someone who witnessed the rule break more vividly is because I'm the one who was directly effected, and therefor the only one motivated enough to write this. I'm going to be reliant on someone checking the logs since I don't (to my knowledge) have any access to server logs of past rounds. I'll give what happened in bullet points so that it's pretty darn easy to understand. -The round is a secret round, with rev being the secret antagonist. -I am assigned as a loyalist -Warden is the revhead -The round is fairly quiet up until the warden is locked in the armory by the AI after having murdered one of the prisoners he had taken (one of the loyalist heads). -The AI, the warden, and myself are all going through negotiations of sort using the AI as a medium of communication. -The AI orders the cyborgs (Cherish/Astorey456) to not interfere with anything as the AI is trying to keep everything from breaking out into violence. - Cherish, upon seeing me, immediately tasers me, cuffs me, and drags me to the warden who shoots me with a shotgun. - Warden is still the only person on station to have killed anyone, and it is very obvious he's killed people, no secret about it. The AI knows, the cyborg helped him kill me, and the whole crew knows the warden is shooting people. - Cherish now moves with the warden assisting the warden in killing anyone who is a loyalist. - AI actually orders Cherish to state their laws since it's acting out so blatantly against the AI's wishes. Even if Cherish didn't know the warden was an antag and thought he was just being 'shitcurity' or something, it still is breaking his laws pretty heavily to allow the warden (and assist) to kill handcuffed people multiple times with a shotgun in the hallways. I'm hoping that this player gets a jobban from both AI and cyborg roles because he clearly puts his involvement in the round above his rules as a cyborg. Sorry if I put this in the wrong section, I wasn't sure if it should go in this one or "character complaints".
  6. It'd be cool if garrot wire worked the same way grab does, except you can only do it from the back, and they can't just walk away from a passive grab. As a bonus you reach all the upgrade times faster.
  7. Ssizhs Zusoa was a loyalist that round might I add. He killed me as well, and I was a law-bound NT supporting cyborg.
  8. Currently it is very difficult to get a debugger as the CE, especially during high pop. I have the simple suggestion of adding a debugger to the CE's office so that he always has access to one. Too easy right?
  9. Well regardless of what's inside the cane, they are the same size both in sprite and in concept; it would make sense for them to have the same size value, one way or the other.
  10. As it stands now, the Cane Sword is a "small item" I believe, and thus can not fit inside your pocket. The actual cane, however, is tiny so it can fit inside your pocket. I was hoping the sizes between the two items could be made the same; preferably the cane sword made smaller since it's already a less robust choice than some of its counterparts (esword, lookin' at you!)
  11. *I like all of the ideas suggested. A modification to the way that sting works is much needed. Even as a changling there's nothing more annoying than another changling getting sting happy and putting the crew on hyper-changling alert. That sting really isn't fun for anyone, and it'd be nice to see some sort of counter to it, or making the sting effect temporary on a living creature. Additionally, I also think the idea of making the sting function similarly to a hypospray in terms of the target's armor would be a nice change.
  12. That's fair, at the time I didn't realize just how inconspicuous a hacked APC was suppose to be. I thought that it would be worth noting vs. this server more or less expects security personnel to just ignore it. A discrepancy I'd picked up from other servers I assure you. Thank you for the review!
  13. Thank you both for the comments and of course for the support. In response to your comment, Sierra, the "redacted" portion of the background is just following the original Nanotrasen lore, where their study of phoron is classified. It's not akin to this character's personal background, but instead just a reference to the background that is Nanotrasen. I'm not sure that made sense, but I hope so.
  14. BYOND key: Biolock Character names: James Crossman, Alex Crossman, Catalyst How long have you been playing on Aurora?: On and off for the better part of a year. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I've always liked playing the Chief Medical Officer, it's just a role I enjoy, plus it would allow me to continue using James Crossman in a way I see fit. He's much too old and educated to be solely a doctor. Why did you come to Aurora?: When the server I was a regular on went down, NSS Phoenix (BestRP). I began desperately looking for a new server, I started on Paradise, migrated to Baystation, and then jumped around a little bit until I eventually touched base with Aurora. My reasons for not liking the other servers vary, but ultimately I like Aurora most because of the community. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: At least fifty times since I started playing this game a few years ago. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplaying is, at the most basic of perceptions, playing out a role. But we as heavy roleplayers understand it to mean something more than that; more of a living story than anything. What people see Space Station 13 as is up for debate. Perhaps it is a TV series where each new round starts the beginning of a new episode where the players will all be thrust into a series of unfortunate events. Or perhaps every round is the characters new first day at the office, just trying to fit into the population a little better every time. Most of us would agree that the basis for the game is that each round is a new shift, and that certain events from the last one are voided, while character defining situations may be held on to for the sake of character development. And that is what I think roleplay is and should be about; developing your character and the characters around you in a way that is both interesting and fun for everyone involved. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I don't know that this question has an actual answer, but if I was to try and speculate what OOC purpose a head of staff character could have, it would be to allow for different game events to take place, as well as allow a single player to have an ID card with a collection of accesses. From an in game perspective, the head of staff is there to provide supervision and organization. While, yes, the Chief Medical Officer might be the best surgeon on station, and the HoS might be the most robust officer available; both the CMO and the HoS might be better off allowing their subordinates to deal with the situations provided while they handle more heavy hitting management problems that control a larger amount of the situations at hand. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players have both a reputation and an image to uphold. If a player is entrusted by the community and staff to play a more 'round affecting role' the player should very well be expected to both play to a higher level of roleplay than a regular player is required to adhere to; as well as roleplay, these players would also be expected to be more competent in their role as a leader. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. James Crossman attended the University of Eclipse and recieved his undergraduate's degree in chemcial engineering, and later recieved his PhD in medical anatomy at the Mars Institute of Medicine. Upon joining Nanotrasen under the twelve year contract, he underwent intensive training in anatomy and surgical operations in the course of four years. As per his contract he was then admitted to Nanotrasen on-world facility 6 in qudrant 4 of luna pala to pay off his education debts to Nanotrasen. As per usual, after completing his debt to Nanotrasen, Crossman then re-attended the Nanotrasen recruitment conditions and begain training in extra-vehicular activity to, be qualified for medical active duty on one of Nanotrasen's off-world facilities. He then joined Nanotrasen at the age of 31. Originally employed on the NMS Banshee, a medical response vessel, he has proven himself to be a very valuable resource. James Crossman has recently been employed on the NSS Phoenix, one of our phoron experimental station, orbiting a large phoron giant in Tau Ceti. As of March 19, 2559 (03/19/2559) James Crossman has been promoted to Chief Medical Officer. Given the prior Chief’s permissible discharge situation, it only seems fit that Chief James Crossman be given commission on the NSS Phoenix. Any Internal Affair reports should be faxed to Central Command for addition to Crossman's records. James Crossman has recently been transferred to the NSS Exodus to practice as a medical doctor. Future developments will determine his career. This is a shortened version of his bio, I really just used bullet points so the reader wouldn't get tired of scrolling through. If you want the whole fluffy thing I can correct it, but I expect you probably won't. What do you like about this character?: He's a very flawed character, filled with various problems both emotionally and physically. I really enjoy playing with this character because he brings such a unique experience to any room. Unlike most characters I have, this one is very distinct in the sense that he's an older man who has prejudices and physical limitations that require him to behave differently to the every-day character. What do you dislike about this character?: In many combat situations, it can be tiring playing as him because, as it should be, roleplaying comes first. So when it comes to a fight, I am almost playing to lose because of James' physical capabilities. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: From an IC perspective, he is well educated, had many life experiences because of his age, and has worked with Nanotrasen for nearly 20 years. I expect by this point it might be strange for him NOT to be a head of staff. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would say that I am a fairly strong roleplayer. It's more important to me that the players around me have a good time than it is that I 'win' whatever task or competition I was in. I would say that everyone who's played a considerable amount of time with one of my characters will have formulated their own opinion of them, they're all unique to each other and I do my very best to react in a way befitting of their individual lore. Extra notes: I am in the military, so often times I find it hard to get online. I would hope that you don't hold my occasional inactivity against me as I've very little control over it. Though I can't always play, I would say I'm online fairly often, and every time I play I always attempt to perform to the highest level of roleplay. Thanks for taking the time to read my application!
