  1. Establishing Details Project Name: SenseRx "Sensory Prosthetic" Unit - Codename "Adolph" Project Goal: Development of a mechanical prosthetic able to replicate the sense of touch in it's users. Facility: NSS Exodus Date: December 17th, 2458 Author: Halo Chance O'Kyle, Standard Sample Member / Robotics Co-author: N/A Personnel Involved: Adolph Hammerstein, Roboticist / Nonmember Unlisted (Legal reasons) Unlisted (Legal reasons) Utilities Disclosure Tools: Circular Saw Six months of frustration Resources: SenseRx "Adolph" MkI x 3 Procedure and Narrative To start I'd like to thank those that helped in the development of the initial design for this project within the organization. First, this project has originated from previous "Feel" model mechanical prosthetics that have been patented in the past however have never gained any market traction because of a variety of flaws (External Ugliness, Weight, Complicated Technology, Etc.) and has been seriously improved upon to fit into a very basic modified shell for an unbranded mechanical right arm. I will detail in length the processes by which the arm functions to help establish a better idea of how it works. The tl;dr version however is this: I have created a marketable prosthetic arm that restores some basic sense of feeling in the user. System 1 & 2 - The arm functions because of two independent systems: An added on array of electronics and electrodes I've dubbed "E-Packs" that are stored internally within the mechanical arm to be as unobtrusive as humanly possible and the normal prosthetic system itself. Both operate by connection to the nerves at the base of the shoulder or wrist, but these two systems are broken apart from each other in the event that the "Feeling" function of the Adolph is broken, the arm will still function as normal. The best way to represent this would be as Input and Output, the normal prosthetic receiving input from the nervous system and outputting a form of movement. This system instead inputs signals from sensors installed into a modified version of the arm and sends it through the nervous system to receive a message. Of course this unable to be accomplished with some form of additional surgery which brings me to the second part of the design. The E-Packs themselves have to be (Currently fairly painfully) installed into the nervous system from the exterior of the arm (This function is easily accomplished with a standard NT wrench, as there are exterior bolts on a modified version of the arm that basically "screw" into the base of the shoulder or wrist) to be able to translate and send messages through the brain without requiring additional implants in the subjects nervous system that could be hazardous to the user. Current models use no implants, but have electrodes embedded into the flesh that *must* be surgically removed before full arm amputation or regular maintenance l'est there is risk to the user. The operation, however, is not complex at all and can be accomplished by your standard roboticist as the design has been made with simplicity in mind. Bugs- Currently there are a number of faults as the sensors and signals actively run off an internal battery rather than any sort of mechanical process giving them a maximum time of one month before battery replacement. In addition (Discerned after non-human test) there is a breaking point to the current sensors that when lifting too much weight (Currently not discerned) the system shorts out and the patient can no longer experience sensation in the unit requiring replacement. Patients, especially those who have not had their original limbs for a very long time, report the feeling as being somewhat alien. Current problems with the design is that removal is extremely painful and hard to preform as the arm offers sense and therefor pain back to the user. It is currently recommended that those who undergo the procedure to test one of the designs keep it for some time for their senses to adjust back to the feeling to minimize potential pain during removal. First Trials - The Adolph is named so because of my first willing patient to try the design. He begun by preforming the procedure to himself to attach the arm and then proceeded to remove it the same. This was absolutely absurd as the pain experienced should've replicated that of losing an original flesh arm. I have hence named it after the patient, Adolph Hammerstein (A fellow Roboticist and waivered to allow disclosure.) The patient expressed dissatisfaction with the unit for it's alien feeling and preformed a self-removal of the arm. However, it did bring back a primitive form of feeling. Due to legal constraints, I am not allowed to disclose the identities of two more patients who have undergone the procedure to test the arm. However, they currently report satisfaction to have some form of returned feeling and are extremely eager to test out more designs. I will attempt to have them waived so that I may disclose their own comments. Results and Concluding Statement Results: Patients attached with the arm express the ability to feel a very basic form of feeling, similar to pressure along their entire arm when lifting objects of varying weights and feeling more pressure when lifting heavier objects. Sensors initially are shown to be very dull (A patient attempting to hold a pen could not feel it for it's insignificant weight). Currently undergoing further trials and will work on declassifying patients in coming time. I will attempt to keep the project updated regarding results. Concluding Statement: I have a pending patent for this technology, but am looking for an opportunity to get a research grant and additional assistance to work on the Prototype to better improve it. Any comments or assistance in this matter would be appreciated, as I'm not even sure NT has a grant board. I'm not sure if they want us to make the same thirty something things over and over until we die. 2. Server Moderator Application Basic Information Byond Account: Nogo3 Character Name(s): Adrian Jamison-Johnson, Halo O'Kyle, Angus O'Kyle, Seamus Flanigan AI Name(s): N/A Preferred means of contact: Skype Master Race (Username: chieukita), Discord (User: Noggles) Age: 17 Timezone: EST UCT -5 When are you on Aurora?: I've started it back up again so every now and again, maybe once every two days. Experience How long have you played SS13?: Three years. How long have you played on Aurora: On and off, little more than a year. How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: Enough to remember the Grab Salad Incident of 2014. More than enough, including admin tools, however there's always something new learned each time I play (Wrestling still eludes me) Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Not any dedicated modding experience, however I filled the role of an Admin/Mod on Hypatia for over a year. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: Once, for 4 minutes, because a fellow admin wasn't having any of my Wheelchair Jousting. Personality Why do you play SS13?: It's messy, dumb (Oh so dumb) fun and a great platform for RP. Why do you play on Aurora?: HRP and a decent community. What do moderators do?: As the name implies: Moderation and judgement of the rules, being able to make decisions surrounding uncertainties for players and RP assistance. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: Being less drama then anywhere else I've seen, apparently. Why do you want to be a moderator?: Everything an admin can do, I can do worse. I'd like to knit myself tighter within the community and help the server how I can. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: The ability to politely handle any situations that may arise and enough judgement to know to call the Captain a condom only *when* he's not around. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I've always exceptional when it comes to managing my own emotions in any sort of Server Staff role, be it managing forums from making Server changing decisions. In previous applications it's one of the things I've gotten the most positive comments about is my cool head, especially when being directly insulted. Anything Else You Want to Add:

    The List 2.0

Given how prone I am to changing these things... Eh. Why not? Adrian Jamison-Johnson (Age: 32) Quartermaster/Miner The Jamison-Johnson family is one of substantial wealth, with Adrian being one of the few exceptions. Raised to a flamboyant and indulgent lifestyle on account of his fathers entrepreneurial talent, he kept distant and often cold relations to his father. Once he went out on his own he attempted law school for a short time before inevitably dropping out for his inspiring career as a musician. This failed. A struggling musical talent, Adrian has little to no skill-set behind the small handful of advice given to him by his father. Generally a good soul, but certainly a "Hard luck" individual. Halo O'Kyle (Age: 30) Roboticist/Scientist/Freelance Researcher A bright young mind in the scientific community, Halo was pushed from a very young age into the robotics field. She was raised the daughter of a naval officer and a roboticist, her mother provided her with lessons in engineering and workshop safety. Working on very small experiments up until her graduation day, she immediately pursued academic excellence. Now she is the owner of her own (Micro) company and an active member of a scientific community. Shame that it doesn't pay well. Her contributions to the field are many, but are greatly minimal to the bigger picture and have received little credit. Seamus Flanigan (Age: 81) Surgeon/Priest An elderly gentleman that focuses on kindness and the intellectual pursuit, Seamus' road has been a long one to get to the point that it has. He pursued a career in medical practice early on working as an intern in his father's hospital. He'd achieve the qualifications to be a medical professional but was influenced greatly by religion later into his life. His family would internally fall apart due to the acquisition of his father's company to a "Jackson Jamison-Johnson", and his personal life would fall to shambles after the death of his spouse and infant daughter. He only has his one son who almost immediately turned against his father, and religion by association. Despite all this, Seamus has shown fascination in the idea of religion as a whole and has published several (Controversial) studies of it. His literary golden years are well behind him now, his most recent publications being largely ignored by the theological community. An old man with little to do, he thought on whim to join as a Chaplain with Nanotrasen to perhaps give him inspiration to write once again.
  4. I'm honestly surprised this is a topic. It's a weird topic. Removing something just for the sake of not liking it or whatever seems rather pointless. I'm honestly trying to figure out the point behind it. Is it to filter out people with certain hairstyles that might be snowflakey? Is it to hold up the RP because they wouldn't be hired like that? Is it just because it looks kind of dumb? I'unno. But I'm at least fairly sure that this isn't North Korea and we have more than twelve company accepted hairstyles. I just don't see any point in removing it from the code for fashion policing. It does look rather silly, though.

  6. Can we actually leave the OP a chance to address/refute the criticism here, instead of going "oh, it's haters that don't like them so their opinions must be immediately discontinued"? I'll be honest in saying that I've waiting for quite a while in hopes of seeing the OP address the criticisms that have been addressed before I put my own two cents in, but it's been a few days, so I'll go ahead and throw it up. I spent a bit reviewing all the post that Sierra had made on the forums to see and make my own opinions on their behavior, and honestly I personally think it's a little less than okay. There's been a good amount of use of Ad Hominem against users and the quickness to start fights from their posts and they don't seem to have provided much justification as to what it is that's setting them off. If it's the players that bring these comments up themselves, then the things they say are the equivalent (atleast I feel) of trying to start a war. This is personally the last thing I'd like to see in a forum moderator, a position that requires being able to talk something out with someone and try to stop fights rather than start them. I'll acknowledge and give them good credit for providing their flaws in the app, because that's honestly a very hard thing to do. I'm just majorly worried about their conduct, because "People getting along with you" isn't the goal. You should be able to get along with people so you can work out stuff out from there. Y'know? -1, until the OP addresses. App or not, though, I'd still like to see an answer for this. I've genuine concerns about stuff like this, sometimes.
  7. I honestly think the whole deal with goofy memes and what-not is just blown way out of proportion. I just don't understand the felony behind saying a few dumb things and a little bit of role play on the dumb side. There's the argument to be made of breaking immersion but-... Really. I don't see it at all. I also don't see how role play conduct affects their ability to moderate over something. I'm not sure what the point of so many complaints against the two are, even in the face of a heavy RP server. Sure. The tag says Heavy RP. And they might be goof trooping it up a bit. But, considering what they've done, don't you think this thing has gone on long enough? Memes aren't a cancer to the server. There's more things that need fixing then "Dank Ops" without going on a full crusade. I'm not saying they're particularly tasteful or funny, but they really don't need to be to be able to be considered acceptable. Just that it's not /THIS/ big of a deal. Sorry. Just reading the forums for the past couple of days has really started to piss me off with the transparency of the complaints. I'm just going to focus on how Frances is able to deal with stuff rather than how they play a game. I'd actually really like to see them in a trial and see how that goes, and hoping to see good things should that happen. All wait and see, I guess. Forums are drowned in salt, by this point.
  8. Frances (in my experience on the forums atleast) seems able to actively disengage from a bad situation to take a step back, generally presents their points in a clear way, and seems extremely level headed in how they treat people. As said I've little on-server experience with them however I do know that the roleplay doesn't make the administrator. It really feels like to me that they have a cool head, a cool personality, and can likely deal with issues in a reasonable and just manner. They've got my +1 I might swing with more information down the line, but we'll see how it goes. This is certainly an uninformed decision on my part, so I'm still looking out for evidence of the latter.
  9. Name: Cornelius "Father" Blackwall Gender: Male Trait: Cultist (Priest presumably) Appearance: A rather meager man, he only stands around 5'2" and weighs 160lbs. He is extremely slender and wears a neatly cut white beard and grayed hair neatly wrapped in a pony-tail behind him. His eyes are a piercing dull blue. He is certainly no youth and seems to be in his 60's, time having worn on his aged skin. His clothes are frayed and his book almost always close by. He follows the Cult of Artemus and is a healer himself.
  10. Having had been staring at this wall now for an entire hour, it suddenly comes to you attention that time is actually moving and you immediately snap back awake. ROSSD is a common condition for you, and you've more than once found yourself falling asleep while standing up. The fact that you pass out as often as you do is more than enough explanation as to 'where' exactly you are. With all the evidence, you must be.. ...In Space... You feel silly for just staring at a wall though, so you go back to reading what you had on the computer. It's painfully obvious that nothing interesting is going to happen today. But, as you reach for the mouse to scroll down, your room begins to flush a bright color of red as small concealed lights from the ceiling have popped out and a PAINFULLY loud alarm begins to klaxon. An unidentifiable voice seems to be reading off a list in a robotic voice. Covering your ears, you look around warily. What the hell? Is the place being bombed? Shit, on the ground! You duck under the desk and wait patiently, eyes closed. Tednug and Scrachfever is /not/ the story you want to be stuck in the middle of before you die! Minutes pass. The lights in the room shoot back up into the ceiling and the alarms have stopped. Every /looks/ to be okay now. Standing up from under the desk you take a moment to look around. Suddenly, the heavy metal door seems to hiss at you as a number of small clicking sounds vibrate through the room. The door stops as well, and all the while you're looking at it, it slides up slowly into the door-frame. The way is open. You're staring down a dark and ominous hallway. The only thing you can make out from the passage seems to be a light at the end of this deathly tunnel. You're standing in your now dreary room and staring down your one chance of freedom. What do you do?
  11. Why is it that after all this time you've never thought to knock on the door? Well, I suppose you have, sort of. Does pounding count as knocking? Getting up from your seat on the bed, you shamble over to the heavy iron door. Looking now, it's more than just cast iron. It's reinforced like a blast door and has more plating than most tanks. You cough into your hand, as if getting some invisible attention, and deliver a sharp wrap on the door and wait patiently. Five minutes have passed. Nothing has happened.
  12. ... You are an Orc Hunter and your name is Tednugent. You feel this is an exceptionally clever name, but nobody ever seems to get the joke. You have a Cat for a pet, his name is Scratchfever. You feel this is also an exceptionally clever name. Nobody ever gets this joke, either. You are level 80. Scratchfever is also level 80. You do not remember how you came to be logged out in Razor Hill, but the place looks deserted. There are no NPCs in sight and your Track Humanoids, which is currently active, is turning up completely blank. Scratchfever seems agitated. His Happiness is getting low and you don’t have any Meat or Fish to feed him. You have only 500 bullets left for your gun. To the north is the road to Orgrimmar, it travels along the base of a short, narrow, red stone canyon. To the south is that little Troll village you never remember the name of. To the east is Razor Hill’s large central building. To the west is a primitive stamped-earth path leading out into the red rock desert of Durotar. ... What a dull day, as usual. A wave of boredom sweeps through you as you lean back in your office chair to stretch out your arms and take your attention off of the holo-screen. Your days are filled with this kind of thing. Wake up, Eat, Read. What it is that you're reading hardly ever matters, but it seems like today an ancient fantasy "Choose your own Adventure" type story has taken your fancy. Now that you're thinking about it, everything you read is fantasy, isn't it? Ignoring the wave of dizziness that hits you as the blood starts to rush back to your head you wobbly get up from your chair to look around. Four padded walls and a ceiling, all covered in an almost blinding white and only broken up by a solid iron door. This is your home. This has always been your home. It's not exactly like it's horrible. There is a place to sleep, a small shower, your desk which supports a computer that is your only source of entertainment, and a small armoire that hold several sets of gray jumpsuits. All the furniture has a fine oak finishing. Other than all that, however, there's little to note. You've often fantasized about one day putting up a poster or two to liven the place up but the only thing preventing that was posters to actually put up. That would be because... You're locked in here That's the way it has always been, you quietly mourn to yourself. It's been almost a year since you've 'Woken up', and it's just as dull as the first day. The first month probably was the most interesting. The sobbing, the plans of escape, the pleading to the invisible eye in the sky. It was a lot of drama. Well, at least there is some satisfaction in yelling out of the small hole in the door that occasionally opens up to provide three square meals of...Gray goo. Really fighting the power, aren't you? You move over to the bed, taking a seat on the side, resting your eyes from that damn screen. Three hundred or so days, and you've not made the thing once. You rub your head, running your fingers through your short black hair in deep thought. It's hard to recall what happened 'before'. You remember basic things, like how to talk and what two plus two is, but your distant past seems to be locked within the three hundred and sixty five days you have spent here. Anything behind that is a painful haze, and sticks pins in your brain just to think about. The term "Rat in a Cage" comes to mind, but you can't quite remember the tune. And how do you feel about all of this? It's really hard to say. A mixture of rage, regret, and sorrow are probably the most immediate. But you don't even know what's out there to begin with? Staying positive is what has kept you from smearing shit on the walls, so keeping a lax carefree attitude is key. If you were on a TV show, you'd probably be the Foremost Expert on Boredom and How to survive not talking to anyone. The closest thing you have to a companion is a connection to the public Ethernet, but even then you can't quite reach anything like a forum or a chat room. Some firewall thrown up, or something, by whoever has you in here. Strolling joyfully through imprisonment. Sounds kind of dumb when you think about it. But all you have to do is thinking, you guess. The feeling of eyes watching you has never once left your mind. You're locked in a padded white room with nothing but a computer and whatever you can find in your desk drawers. Everything is bolted to the ground. You're wearing a gray jumpsuit and have never seen your own face to put a description down as to what you look like. And, above all, you feel Tragically Bored. What will you do now, on the sullen first anniversary of your 'Waking up'?
  13. Wouldn't it be reasonable for there to be a bit of both in the weapon, both due to the burns that it gives off and the actually brute damage it can inflict. It's not like it's a laser rifle where it hits you and heats the flesh to the point of pain as much as it's like a sword that can burn and cut. If there would be a way to get rid of the embedding on top of all that is probably best case scenario. Making it pure burn would bring up the potential of melting people's faces and skin, wouldn't it? EDIT: With the gravity field stuff, none the less, things are messed up with the swords. No chance to mix up the lore to possible make something a bit cooler and more understandable?
  14. The only post if involved stuff. Unfortunately, I'll admit that I'm not involved to the situation at hand but /REALLY/ wanted to speak my mind on that specific thing.
  15. Nogo breaks onto the scene! Probably breaking rules, but given the circumstances of the complaint it just 'really' was bugging me to give my own two cents on what I'm seeing here despite not really having been there. First, in comment to the post in mention. While I can see there is some passive aggressiveness from the players in mention when they are talking, it seems much more a thing that could have been settled by talking to aggressive chatters directly rather than the shutting down of OOC. I recognize the confusion that must have been going on but that seems like all the more reason to be vigilant against those people who really 'are' causing trouble. I agree with the incentive to shut down OOC for a short time to get things figured out and then turn it back on, provided ample reasoning was provided before shutting it off, but that's a means to an end rather than an end in and of itself. Secondly, I feel the need to pop in and say the same thing time and time and time again. Characters are characters, players are players. I don't understand what the issue with insulting to characters is, because they are not supposed to be representative of the people they play. Too many people see insult to characters and immediately jump to insult to players. It's just...Jeeze. (EDIT: This passage above is about 75-80% of my post. Jaysus Kriste~) Thirdly, the button isn't there for stopping something before it starts. It's there to stop something that is happening. It's like shutting off OOC because someone could spam the entire thing. It's difficult to read the future, so I don't see any reasoning for that. Finally, oh thank god finally, in response to what's been said from my friendo that I've quoted. This is-...I just-...I have to find proper words to address this. That quote is mostly why it is that I've decided to work up a spine and maybe tippy toe about the conversation like I am now (Let's hope I don't get deleted!), but there are distinct differences between being firm and being aggressive. I understand the need for admins to be firm in their actions completely and the need to enforce something they say that they will do. Typically you don't ask over and over again if you're being firm. You ask, and if it continues, you then shut down. The problem isn't that, though. There are 'so so so so so' many ways to moderate and administrate without having to become aggressive and that very attitude is something that drives people away. Seeking and destroying isn't doing a job, and it's something that can result in lots and lots of admin complaints. The person who can best do their job is someone who is able to actively enforce what it is they are supposed to uphold while still being open and able to communicate and express their own reasons as to what it is they're doing. You can moderate with an attitude like that, it's true. But it's not the best way to go about it. If you're looking to "Just do your job" that might be how you do it, but if you're looking to be a positive driving force in the community you can't take up an attitude like that. As pertaining to this complaint, I'm happy to say at the very least that this does not look to be one of those cases. It is not so outright aggressive an action to mute OOC as it seems to be more relating to confusion and the attempt to help with something, which is honestly understandable. Given the situation (And my general confusion), I can easily see myself doing the same thing in their place. The only lack thereof is a reasoning behind what it is that they did and the way in which they did it. This isn't a "Just doing our job" attitude that I see from them instead of just a differing opinion on how things should be done from players. I'll call unprofessionalism on both sides as to what went down, but that's a minor gripe I feel when its between players and volunteers. So, in short, I'm not for the action, but this seems like one of those things I would do myself then look back on and say "Oh jeeze, I could've handled this slightly better". I hope what I said was in some small way constructive to the topic at hand and might build a bit on the understanding of stuff. It's too easy to forget that player or staff, no matter the expectation, are still human, and might do so and so every now and again. Welp. Here's hoping I'm not deleted and flagged. Enjoy the big wall of text!
