  1. i'm not entirely convinced about this one yet so im opening it for discourse and maybe with multiple heads put together we can refine it or w/e

anyway, here goes. antagging on expeditions kinda suck, especially if a ling pops adrenalin sacs and starts armblading you on the intrepid. it feels cheap, and you can't really run away? i understand that you as a player take this risk by inviting someone on a non-extended round, but personally i feel the roleplay you can achieve from a canon expedition is far greater than what an antag can reasonably cook up at the snap of their fingers

but that isn't to say that ALL antagging on expeditions suck, there are times where i've been hunted on a planet predator style and it was AWESOME. so my suggestion is that it'll made policy that antags have to ahelp to do antag stuff off the ship, and have a member of staff vet that it's a good call or not

obviously there are edge cases, like an antag starting a gimmick and characters running onto the shuttle and blasting off like team rocket, but this would by common sense be a valid play by the antag, it wasn't their fault it was taken off the ship

  2. i think the weather station idea fucks and it shouldn't be RP only. i think gathering data on a planet should give a research chip (which is basically fluff for the deconstructor) as well as a monetary payout for the science department, sort of like the orion express PR i made earlier but with weather stations instead of package delivery

edit: i just realized this is a policy suggestion not a suggestion suggestion WOOPS but yes i think scientists should be allowed to fly the intrepid too, there should just be an expansion of policy to say "god please wait for the xenoarch to get on before you blast off"

  3. tbh i'm of the opinion that admins should be able to make minor alterations to the round at-will regardless. if we trust them enough to give them the redname we should trust them to make for some interesting scenarios as well

though more related to this topic specifically, it would be nice if we tweaked how antags are allowed to mess with expeditions and people on shuttles, because i've seen a few times where a ling accepts going onto a shuttle just for a cheap and easy frag, which imo is way less entertaining than actually completing the journey

something along the lines of "sure, you can go hostile and hunt us like in Predator once we reach the site, but don't just cheap kill us while we're enroute or haven't even gotten there yet". idk, food for thought

  4. hi, someone that upvoted posts here

i agree with returning the glubbs
i think the decision should be looked at again (which is what this thread is doing) (and the decision should be respected)
and i dont think engineering necessarily has to be balanced

anything else is silly shitflinging and you're all dorks who play the same roleplaying game together, it aint life or death, peace and love, xoxo

Additional Comments:  i'm not gonna go hog wild like in the past and burn myself out, nor apply for a million positions and burn myself out, nor get involved in anti-garnascus counter insurgency operations and burn myself out. i just want to chill and review PRs. i promised to be better in 2023 and i'll try and hold to that. sorry for dropping out like i did last time, i was immature and foolish.

  6. not sure about balance, in my experience mechs have always felt kinda weak, but having a gamemode entirely centered around it will bring in a lot of good feedback on how to balance it

as for gimmicks, no idea, i'm not very smart, but people can make their jockey anything from hired mercs to corporate wreckingballs, up to them really

  7. ok i wanted to make a mecha focused gamemode so i made a mecha focused gamemode here

    https://github.com/Aurorastation/Aurora.3/pull/17148

    here's the copypasted description:

Added a new gamemode, Jockeys, featuring a new antag, Jockey. A mecha-antag focused gamemode. Minimum two antags, minimum ten players on the server for it to roll.

They start in a little antag base and teleport onto the ship similarly to how ninjas do. They have a workshop attached to their base with almost every piece of mecha equipment in the game available to them, so each player can construct their own mech they want to play with.

The jockeys themselves are equipped with a silenced pistol in a holster and a spare magazine in their pocket, and have a 10TC uplink in the other pocket.

To deal with sustained power issues, I've added min nuclear core power cells that store lots of power and regenerate 10% of it every 30 seconds.

    image.png.fce47243b544617e2946bccae7a9c322.png

hopefully its inclusion as a gamemode can reveal some clunky things we can fix later on

lemme know your thoughts on it

  8. i'm in favour of removing it entirely, but removing it from secret is second best

waiting for a rework is just agony for something that will likely never happen

if people really want ling to stay in full form, they can rework it themselves while its out, or commission someone if theyre incapable of doing so

  9. as an old dev, i prefer having someone that's enjoyable to talk to more than someone who's technically competent, since the latter is easier to train, whilst the former is more important to having a fun atmosphere for the team, but is much harder to change for the better

from my interactions with Camo, they're good for having a conversation with, and their past PRs have been good. i will give them a +1 for that

but for this application, i think your best bet right now would be to go for a walk or take a shower and brainstorm a bunch of small ideas, write them down, and then implement them when you have the energy for it. a bunch of small PRs that are easy to do and most importantly, finish, would add a lot of guaranteed content over time, and also look good for this application

most importantly though is to be at peace with you scrapping your own projects, or projects not getting reviewed and dying, or projects being rejected. making a bunch of smaller ones lets you shotgun content and makes rejection and scrapping hurt less
