  1. That silence on the situation was due to command not wanting to instantly spread out the fact that jani pizza was being made in the kitchen, and yeah, I suppose I should have let them walk themselves into the scanner, but I'm coming from the surgeon route of medical, so most patients are critical, so coming out of that mindset will take some time when I'm directly involved in the treatment process. Appreciate the feedback, I hope I do enough right otherwise to fill the role effectively.
  2. BYOND key: DtheSnek Discord Username: @dthesnek Character names: Soaring Above Forlorn Hope FRIEND How long have you been playing on Aurora? A bit over two years Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they? One warning. Minor issue. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame? The role of Head of Staff is to be the planner of the department. Each role has a task, and while that task may overlap with others occasionally, they tend to limit the scope of their focus to what encompasses their job responsibilities. The heads do not possess a specific role, allowing them instead to overlook the entire department without the distractions of a specific job, helping to move the staff where needed, organize them to be most effective, and help pair up interns with experienced staff who can help them learn on the job. The second part is being a large source of general knowledge. Heads are expected to possess a basic level of familiarity with every part of the department and therefore should know what to expect their staff to be being and help guide them if they are not. They also are able to competently understand and communicate both the status of their department to Command and the relevant goings on of situations to their staff and make sure they are prepared to handle their response to that situation. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them? I think that the responsibilities of whitelisted players are to help integrate newer players into the game by being a source of knowledge and guidance and by helping to maintain good roleplay. The two go hand in hand, knowing how to do your job or working with trained personnel to help you get trained in your position, and the head of the department can help get interns paired up, assess the crew to see if someone should be advised to keep to an intern role due to lack of skill, or even step in themselves as needed, as they should have a basic knowledge set for the department they are leading. A Head of Staff can also help facilitate roleplay by creating scenarios to help with stagnant rounds, such as creating a mock emergency to test the crew’s skills or just doing individual assessments under the guise of a regular job assessment or something similar. Another thing that certain roles, such as Chief Medical Officer can do to help maintain higher levels of roleplay is that they can check records of the entire crew, working with them if they notice a lack of records to not only advise that they should make some for their character, but even create roleplay opportunities to help assist them with creating the records IC, through things like a medical checkup and questionnaire and handing them a copy of a record they can add into the character creator and use as a valid record. Explain how the recent events in the Spur changed your character and how they came to be employed on the SCCV Horizon. Being formed on United, EUM, Forlorn Hope had been through the refugee rush and has gotten news of the various conflicts happening in the Corporate Reconstruction Zone and various other places throughout the galaxy. Having both a desire to help and travel the galaxy to bring back experiences from outside their home, they signed up with the IAC, who helped them with the relevant training and blood needed to turn them into a fairly capable surgeon and shipped out to assist where they were needed. As the conflicts wound down, and still desiring to travel, Forlorn Hope would be able to make their way onto the Horizon though the mutual co-operation that the IAC had with Nanotrasen in the Coalition, allowing them to be transition onto the research vessel to assist the crew as well as assist wherever they may dock. FRIEND is just a beep-boop make like a week ago now, so he’s just happy to help. Beep Boop. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted? Chief Medical Officer, Liason Have you familiarized yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? I have read over the Command section and perused the various sections for each specific job. Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking: Soaring Above Forlorn Hope – Chief Medical Officer Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? I understand, fail to do your duties proficiently enough or just be a big enough general fuck-up and get the big bonk. Have you linked your BYOND account to the Forums? It would be rather strange to have gotten the Diona whitelist without it. Extra notes: I am aware there is far more nuance to being command, but it is better to do those kind of things instead of me trying to cobble together shitty sentences in an attempt to explain it.
  3. Sorry for my delayed response, but I work long days, so I have no time to be on my computer at all during them, so this is both why I am responding on my phone and also trying to apply for something fairly early, as waiting a day is taking one of my day or two days off I have to be able to actually play during the week. 1. Not too far, enough to do the basics of needed, but not set up the most efficient design or anything like that. 2. Well, I did say they were approached by them, so likely because the deal they offered may have been better, although it's entirely possible for it to go the other way around, but considering that NT is the most powerful corp, both seem viable options. 3. The best fit would be Competence Choir, with the ones having more language exposure through lectures take the job of speaking. - I am aware that they are capable of normal speech, I was saying they could be depending on the situation and makeup of the dionae, which can lead to a more interesting rp scenario if some right. 4. I find it a little weak around the more hostile and aggressive kinds of dionae 5. I think being able to maybe have a version of historical events from the dionae side of things, though I'm not entirely sure if it would be appropriate lore wise. 6. As an admin on another server, I understand the concern for understanding the rules well enough to avoid causing any real issues with breaking them, as far as mechanics go, I think anything that would be dionae specific I would have to poke at it myself to really learn, so experience means nothing if I can't even play the race, and other mechanics I'm not super worried about as I have played various code bases before, so unless you have one that is that radically different, I doubt I would have too difficult of a time catching on to the nuances that your code specifically brings.
  4. BYOND Key: DtheSnek Character Names: Alanna Thorley, P.A.L. Species you are applying to play: Dionae What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Default due to their being raised on Biesel Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: The lore, biology, culture, and even history pages, yes Why do you wish to play this specific race: I have played this race before on other servers such as Paradise Station. I find that their unique mental states and pacifistic tendencies can lead to interesting roleplay scenarios that are a bit more fitting to my play style, as I tend to avoid fighting in game and can allow me to play with a unique mindset that can lead to prolonged RP due to a lack of players playing the race or knowing much about them. I have also found that due to their potential for mass learning through their nymph state, I can reasonably step into a differing department if an emergency arises and able to use at least basic knowledge to help get things under control, but still be able to do so in a way that wouldn’t necessarily break RP, such has playing a medical Dionae who happens to know some engineering skills due to a few of their nymphs gaining blood from someone who had that knowledge. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Their collective mind means that while they can work together and act as a single entity, they can also be slow and almost chaotic in how they speak, forcing you to take into account the experience of the individual nymphs that make up the diona you are playing when engaging with someone, especially if the specialties of the makeup overlap in different ways, potentially causing a disagreement within the entity, which could be expressed as a small manic episode, prolonged period of silence mid conversation, or maybe even something resembling multiple personalities depending on how they choose to speak. They also experience pain differently, with the members that make up the impacted section feeling pain and the whole acknowledging it differently from gestalt to gestalt, with some getting rather upset that one of them is in pain, with others seeming to shrug it off to continue on or not even noticing it depending on the group structure, but their plant based makeup can mean that they handle issues a bit different, such as hull breaches are a non-threat to them whereas a release of plant-b-gone would be a cause for concern, making botany a more potential threat to them. Character Name: Singing The Song Of Radiation Among The Stars, aka. Radiant Star Please provide a short backstory for this character Formed from a group of nymphs grown at the Hongsun Park Engineering Institute, they were the main focus on a study to better understand Dionae physiology and psychology, with many of them being raised in a variety of conditions, ranging from being given blood of those in various fields of study or being taught in various forms, from lecture and theory to detailed “hands on” approaches. They were slowly integrated over several years, with numerous tests being done on them to examine the differences and how that affects them as they gradually merge into a cyclops. Once fully formed, it had become noted that the ones that had been exposed to lectures took on the more social roles, causing their speech to take on a more methodical and paced tone. After their gestalt form had been established, they had chosen their name, Singing The Song Of Radiation Among The Stars, due to their ability and preference to work with the engines, particularly SM engines due to the radiation they would emit, and the results of the testing catching the eye of Nanotrasen, who offered them a job as Station Engineer, promising them steady work as long as they continued to submit to occasional testing. They have since worked on various ships and stations, staying in a primarily Engineering based role, but have done some research work when needed, eventually being scheduled to move to Aurora Station for the time being. Their experiences working with others have led them to coming up with something of a “nickname” to help make conversations with other people who are not used to the unique naming structure they use and to assist with ease of identification in times of emergency, instead coming up with the name “Radiant Star” to use in place of their full name. What do you like about this character? The type of internal structure can allow me to keep them a bit closer to standard races, but can allow for a more diverse style to emerge as I continue to play them, which can ease bringing them into a higher roleplay standard than would be expected on most other servers that allow them. Their background can also allow me to be a bit more diverse in my job role, being able to change from science to engineering as the rounds allow and able to play a bit more of what I know about the game without making several characters to do so, which would hopefully lead to better character recognition and development. How would you rate your role-playing ability? Fairly well, I can be a bit more reserved when starting new things, but tend to expand and develop as I get comfortable. Notes: I really like the Dionae lore for the server, much more developed than anywhere I have seen, and likely leads to better RP than “plant man that talks in third person”
