Add Faction/Home System blurb information in Character Setup

Recommended Posts

I tried Persistence Station a while ago and saw they had this neat feature where once you selected a faction is would come up with a brief description outlining it, in character setup. I think this would be a good feature to implement to make faction/system backstory at a glance more accessible, with the possibility of hooking players to read more about it on the wiki.

This would be implemented in Character Setup so that when a faction was selected a short blurb about it would pop up just below the option

For example if NanoTrasen was selected as Faction it would come up with "A megacorporation primarily based in Tau Ceti, that specializes in phoron mining, processing, research, and sale..." and would continue for a couple more lines maybe. The same type of idea would apply to Home System and other factions.

I +1 this, in fact Bay ported and edited a lovely 'Background' system that I think would be amazing for the server.

It'll give say, an option. And then a Lore-blurb about it. It'll also limit what languages you can and cannot select based on your upbringing in certain systems/areas, what religions you can and cannot select (IE you can't be a human following Ma'ta'ke from your childhood or something without a whitelist for it.)

For example, a human would have options such as "Earth, Mars, Biesel". Each one would have, for the homeworld, a lore-blurb about this planet. And a Tau Ceti Local wouldn't be able to learn Sol Common, whereas a Sol Local likely wouldn't have say. Freespeak, as they're not on the fringe or near it. (Unless they're from Mars, perhaps.)

Factions, homeworlds, and so could also give an economic power statistic if you wanted to port the entire system, to allow players a more depth-like feeling about their bank accounts. For example, a fringe planet would be less economically powerful than Biesel itself. So their savings would be less, based on a percentile, than Biesel's.

It gives a ton of options for growth of a character and gives more insight to new players without having to wiki-dive. It also just makes things a heck of a lot cooler, in my opinion!

Huge +1, it sounds immensely interesting, and very helpful for new players, and even older players that might not be fully familiar with some factions but are interested.

I don't know if I like restricting stuff mechanically based on this, that can perhaps be saved for another discussion.

A +1 because I like the idea and because I feel it will add a sense of realism to the game and make rping more fun, also will give more information as to how to rp your character better and allow for more flexibility with it.

As someone who's played a lot of persistence, I'd love to see this feature also make its way onto Aurora. One of the hardest parts about getting involved in a new server is having to first read up on the lore - quick blurbs would allow people to form an idea for characters and jump into the action without being scared away by walls of text. Not a fan of mechanical constraints, but regarding blurbs, +1.

Tons of support from me. There's so many factions and some of them are really Byzantine. This would help immensely to give everyone a nice snap shot
