Fire's guide to secret IC rules you're probably not aware of

Recommended Posts

Our server has a slight problem where about a quarter of our IC rules are randomly spread about the forums and/or just show up in-game randomly instead of being kept somewhere you can view them, with little existing efforts to show people they exist.

These rules are mostly obscure and enforcement is spotty to non-existent, but they do exist and I'm putting them here for kicks.

Uniform regulations show up in CCIA announcements that they do at random whim but the announcement does not encompass the full extent of the rule.

Engineering. Jumpsuits cannot be rolled down due to safety regulations. Any persons whom are injured by machinery or equipment due to loose-hanging clothing will not be covered under NanoTrasen insurance policies.

Medical. Jumpsuits OR Scrubs are required if you are handling and treating patients, chemicals, or viruses. Failure to wear proper, sterilized clothing may result in malpractice (Neglect of Duty under corporate infractions, possible manslaughter) charges. Jumpsuits must make you easily identifiable as a member of the medical department. Colored labcoats are fine under regulation, as long as they are kept clean.

Research. Jumpsuits are required if you are handling chemicals, plasma, xenobiology, xenoarchaelogy, or xenobotany. Robotics and R&D equipment hold the same uniform requirements as engineering. Other roles may substitute scrubs if preferred. Colored labcoats are fine under regulation, as long as they are kept clean.

Security. Jumpsuit uniforms must be worn at all times to make you easily identifiable as a member of the security department.

Certain exceptions exist for certain conditions:

Tajaran crewmembers. Due to their fur, and repeatedly stated concerns of physical health, Tajaran crewmembers will hold an exception to the jumpsuit regulation. However, they must wear a tshirt, tanktop, or otherwise unrevealing undershirt. Tajaran personnel in the medical department, or that are handling chemicals, plasma, xenobiology, xenoarchaelogy, or xenobotany do not fall under this exception and are recommended to wear light-weight scrubs. Tajaran personnel in the engineering department, Robotics, or R&D will not be covered by NanoTrasen insurance policies if they are injured due to loose-hanging clothing.

Personnel utilizing the holodeck's beach or desert simulations will be allowed to wear appropriate clothing for such simulations (Bathing suits, lighter clothing, etc), but must return to standard uniforms once their holodeck break has ended.

You will probably not encounter this unless you're naked or I'm playing CMO at the time but if you do encounter it, this is where it's coming from.

Obscure lore-crap:This is stuff that is mostly forgotten but was supposed to have some effect or another back when it was done. By its nature of being forgotten/ignored by everyone there's not much risk of being called out on your ignorance but you know, if you're curious...

You're not allowed to work with other mega-corporations during and after your employment with Nanotrasen, so y'know, if you decide you want to go 'fukNT!!1!' then you might want to keep in mind that good work on the same level may not be strictly easy to come by. Also some stuff about signing a non-disclosure agreement after employment with NT.

90% of Tajara are not supposed to have comfy Russian or Arabian names, fortunately, no one enforces this.

Part of the 98th Decree is a compulsory order for government employees to abandon the human naming scheme and use their birth-names on all documents and identifications effective immediately. This naming scheme was brought into place shortly after first contact with humanity, due to the difficulties of humans in pronouncing native Tajara names. In addition, all citizens of the People's Republic will be compelled to conform to the decree. For all non-government employees the decree is more lenient and allows transition time.

For the entire month of April Galactic Standard Time all citizens are required to adopt the last name of their full birth-name on all identification and documents, replacing the human-centric last name.

During May all citizens are required to adopt their traditional first names, replacing the human given name entirely.

Citizens that have not conformed to this decree will face prison time or heavy fines for a subversive lack of patriotism.

If you're a Unathi then you're theoretically required to swear loyalty to Tau Ceti's government or face fines for the rest of your life when working with NT, of course, everyone just about stopped caring about this 2 weeks after it was a thing. The form still exists in the requests console database too.

https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=95&t=2981&start=20#p53103

All immigrants to Tau Ceti are required to attend an induction ceremony at the end of the integration process where they swear loyalty to the Republic of Biesel. This document would expand this concept into requiring all foreign-born Unathi to sign a loyalty pledge, which will be notarized and kept on file. Foreign-Unathi that want to opt out of signing the document will become ineligible to run for public office or be permitted entry into the Tau Ceti Navy. Additionally, the bill states that any Unathi that has no signed the bill after March 10th will face repeated, monthly fines of 800 credits.

Heads of staff among you may not be aware of first contact protocol, this was made back when Xander was a CCIA IIRC, so it is technically official, as far as I know.

This is also a good way to find out whether or not someone actually gave you Head of Staff forum access.

There is of course, more stuff like this around but none comes to mind at the moment.

Also, the Unathi would simply say 'fukk offf you filthyy humie i'ma free ligger who has too much honoir to sign a loyalty contract thingy.'

To be fair, I'm pretty sure NT would just say "Ok, no job for you, then. Next!" NT doesn't really have an Unathi Affirmative Action thing set up. They don't need to hire the lizards, it's just cheaper and more effective than humans.

They won't fire you for it, you just get fined out the ass and you won't get any preferential treatment if you refuse to sign it. It is optional, just in NT's own fucked up way.
