The Adventures of Fockle: Book 1

Recommended Posts

This is a forum-rp adventure imported from the Aurora FreeForums, I wish to continue it here.

Pretty simple, read the story and look at the pictures and recommend actions, I'll continue the story based on the choices made by the community.

Since I'm constructing every frame this is completely seamless, feel free to recommend ANY action, within reason. Please try to keep this enjoyable, thank you. Have fun!

Thanks to Lord_Balkara for coming up with the creative name of Fockle

Chapter 1: Waking up

It's a bright sunny day, he's at the beach. The wind blows sand against his legs and the sun warms him nicely. He is standing up-right, dressed in a Hawaiian shirt, as well as a pair of blue shorts and sandals. He is holding a video camera and filming two children chasing each other across the beach, kicking sand up into the air as they laugh and shout. The children run into the ocean waves and splash each other with the cool salty water. It's a boy and a girl. He lowers the camera and turns to see a woman standing next to him, watching the children with a smile. This must be their mother.

He can't help but feel content with the whole scene. A smile creeps onto his face, he sighs happily and slowly closes his eyes. Suddenly, he gets an intense feeling of loneliness. He opens his eyes and finds himself in a sandy desert rather than a beach. He looks down and his clothes are gone. There is nothing in his hand anymore and no one is anywhere to be seen. He notices the sand is slipping away into unseen cracks and is being replaced by a hard, cold concrete floor. He then finds himself in what looks like a colossal warehouse, It's empty, and the walls appear to be closing in. He panics, the walls and roof are moving towards him at an impossible speed. He notices the walls start morphing. The room seems to be turning into a tube, one huge tube. The tube continues to close in on him- drawing ever closer. It gets to about the size of a large coffin, and stops. Then, nothing.

He bangs the walls trying to scream at the top of his voice, but not a sound is heard. After what feels like hours of struggling against the walls of the tube, there is a deep rumble that feels like it comes from everywhere. The roof gives way and he is enveloped in a stream of freezing green liquid raining down on him. He is beaten to the ground and tries to shout out for anyone, anything. He needs to breathe. The world is going dark- he needs oxygen. Not being able to take it anymore, his body forces him to take a breath. The liquid fills his lungs and he start to lose his consciousness.

He awakens due to a noise from the outside. A constant and quiet alarm. He opens his eyes and takes a deep breath, he is in a tube that's made of what seems to be glass. The green liquid that surrounds him hinders seeing anything in detail, but there is a light out there. He tries to move, but his body is numb. He then realises that this is actually really cold, and notices that he is breathing. How? Oh. There is a mask on his face. It has tubes leading to something behind him. The sound becomes clearer, it's an alarm coupled with a synthetic voice of some kind. He can't make out what it is saying but it can't be good. He needs to do something. But what?

Chapter 2: Breaking Out

This is how one should recommend actions for the story:

Action: Break out

He begins to regain feeling in his body and decides to do the obvious: get the hell out of this thing. He leans back against the wall of the tube and prepares to kick the glass in.

1272258212_Frame2.png.f3b51466bcf3dbf845d7efcf6c9d98b1.png

SMASH

After a few good strong kicks the glass eventually gives way. He is pulled out with the liquid as the container is compromised. He shuts his eyes as he is quickly carried past the sharp edges of the hole he just made.

Luckily, the first thing he saw when he opened his eyes wasn't blood.

He blinks in the light, and makes out the synthetic voice blaring, "CAUTION. CRYOGENIC FAILURE. CAUTION" over and over again.

The voice spontaneously cuts off, and he plucks his body off the concrete floor. He observes his surroundings. He is in a small room with grey walls. There is a light directly above him that lights up most of the room, revealing the now broken tube of glass that he was housed in. It's about the size of a large coffin with a big machine behind it, some of the liquid is still in the thing. He notices a large metal drain in the floor, that must be where the rest of this stuff went.

The whole room is dusty, but it looks recently disturbed. And not just by his break out. He turns around and sees the door, it appears to be made of metal. There is a light switch next to the door, obviously it controls the light. His eyes move down and catch a wire, he follows the wire until his eyes meet with an outlet that's compatible with a 3-point-plug. Then he sees the box. He missed it earlier... It's not as dusty as the other things in this room. Kneeling to inspect it he notices boot prints in the dust leading to the box from the door. There is a piece of paper on the box... Its reads: "Fockle."

...Fockle? Is that his name? Is that even a name?

He then thinks for a moment. What IS his name? He tries hard to remember. In fact he now tries to remember anything. But nothing comes to mind... Other than the strange dream. What was that about?

He sits down on the floor, only now comprehending his situation. He doesn't know who he is, where he is, or why he is here. The dream he had is very confusing. Was that him? His family? A flash of where and who he was before... this?

He takes a deep breath, and looks around once more. He stands up and looks at himself. Oh yes. He's naked. And the mask is still on his face. He removes the mask and is greeted by stuffy air with that old kind of smell. He notices where the mask was leading to now- it's an oxygen tank on his back.

Alright. What the heck does he do now?

It's got a lot of stuff in it. And he-... What the heck?

203124859_Frame5.png.f6bd50711da632c5349d6ffdc321010d.png

A gun? Why the hell... Never mind. He wouldn't know why a gun is in there. He keeps looking through the box and finds a pair of jeans. He stands up to slip them on. Bending back down again to look in the box he finds a small satchel, a cell phone, an extra mag for the gun, a sealed envelope and a wallet.

He slings the satchel onto his shoulder and stuffs the gun, the extra mag and the cellphone inside. Never know when something like this would be useful. He looks down into the box- the wallet and envelope are still there.

Chapter 4: Fockle Indeed

Action: Inspect the wallet and the sealed envelope.

He kneels back down and inspects the wallet and the letter, lying in the box. Without thinking he instinctively reaches for the wallet, and feels a sort of familiarity by holding it in his hand. He flips it open, and inside he finds $20, a Quicka Licka 50% off coupon, and an ID card. He removes the ID card, it belongs to some individual with the name "Fockle Fredrick Fanberry". There's a picture of a man on the ID card as well, the man has messy brown hair and a muttonstache of facial hair in the same colour. He looks closely at this picture. It makes his head hurt, feeling as if he's seen this picture many times before but can't remember it for a damn. It's the eyes, the eyes of the picture look the most familiar, they're a deep green colour and stare blankly back at him.

1735813892_Frame7.png.ce9867ecbbde44bb3ef0c1475e11e0e0.png

He looks up, into a reflection produced in the remaining glass of the tube he was housed in. There's a face in that reflection, almost identical to the face on the ID, but missing all the hair. Is this him? Is he Fockle Fredrick Fanberry? His head hurts some more, and all of a sudden it comes back to him. His name is in fact Fockle. This is his wallet. This is his ID card. This is... Oof. His head hurts again, he can't remember anymore. With a new sense of identity, Fockle returns the ID card to the wallet and stuffs the wallet into his satchel, then inspects the envelope.

It's a surprisingly neat paper envelope sealed with a plain wax seal, and there's something small and heavy inside. Fockle turns it over and sees there's writing on the one side, it reads "For Fockle". Fockle realises this box is his. It had his name on it, and his wallet in it, as well as this letter addressed to him. Does that mean the gun is his as well? And the cell phone? Fockle carefully opens the envelope, revealing a letter and a little shiny key. Fockle pockets the key and reads the letter:

Fockle,

I know you must be confused. It's been many years since you were frozen, you must have a vast array of questions but I'm afraid I can't help you there. I know as much about you as you do, except for the fact that I know what you have to do next.

I was sent by The Boss to find you, 8 years ago. It's taken long, but I've finally done it. The Boss would be proud. He wanted me to escort you to Boxworth Bay, where his men could find you. But sadly I cannot fulfill that part of the mission, I fear I am being followed. Thus I prepared this box of your possessions that The Boss sent with me to give to you. You're going to have to find your way to Boxworth Bay by yourself for now, I'll try to come find you after I've dealt with whoever is trying (very badly) to follow me.

I left a stash of supplies in the storage shack right next to this building. Use the key.

Best of luck,

Alex

How strange. Fockle doesn't know whether to make right or left of this letter. He decides he should probably do as it says, because he certainly doesn't have any sort of plan. And Fockle is quite interested in meeting this "Boss" person. They seem to be calling the shots and seem to know who Fockle is, they could probably shed some light on the subject. But first, Fockle decides to look around the room some more.

Action: Grab a glass shard

Butterrobber202

Fockle's eyes wonder to a glass shard on the floor next to him. It's rather long, and ends in a point. He figures it could be useful, as a makeshift knife perhaps, and stuffs it in his satchel.

Fockle then stands up and looks about the room. What should he do now?

Chapter 5: The Hallway

Fockle decides he shouldn't hang around for too long, and is about to head out the door when he hesitates for a second. The letter said that Alex, whoever that is, had been looking for Fockle for 8 years. Exactly how long was he in that tube thing? How much time has passed? What's happened to the world? He can't remember much of the world before, but Fockle can't shake the feeling that the world he would've known doesn't exist anymore, much like a dream doesn't exist when one wakes up.

Action: Peer through the cracks or keyhole of that door.

ajstorey456

Unsure of what could or could not be waiting for him, Fockle decides to try and see what's outside. Fockle inspects the door, there's no keyhole. Strange. He'll have to look through the slits in the vent at the top of the door, which is relatively high up. Fockle can't quite reach it with his eyes even on the tips of his toes. He glances over at the box, it's made of cardboard but looks sturdy enough. Fockle closes the lid of the box and tests his weight on it, it bends inwards a little but it holds. Fockle then props the box in front of the door, and climbs on top. He easily reaches the vent and bends down slightly to have a look through.

The other side of the door is dark, and there's a slight red glow. He tries his best, but he can't identify anything in the darkness.

1033146217_Frame8.png.57fe62d277c0c5fb6e01a5d67f46188e.png

Fockle then instead places his ear against the door, the metal is cold and gives him goosebumps. He doesn't hear a single thing, and decides that there probably isn't anything on the other side- at least not anything living. Fockle grips the handle and attempts to push the door open, but it doesn't budge. He feels defeated for a moment, but quickly realises his folly and gives the door handle a good yank. The door swings open smoothly, and the light from behind Fockle leaps out into the darkness before him. He discerns that this is in fact a corridor, and steps out into it. While Fockle tries to make things out in the poor light, the door behind him swings closed and he's too late to catch it. He reaches for where he believes the handle to be but his hand swishes through dark nothingness. After feeling around, Fockle determines the door doesn't have a handle on this side, just a hole where the handle should be. Peculiar.

Only then did Fockle notice he isn't in complete darkness, but rather standing in a very dim, soft red glow. It was almost unnoticeable until he looked up and saw the weak red lamp it is emitted from. Fockle didn't exactly believe himself to be clued in on the norms of this world, but he knew red lights are generally bad. His eyes wander to the source of another glow, a lamp exactly like the one above him, and emitting a similar weak light- except this lamp was green. Fockle then notices that these pathetic lights are present all throughout the corridor, swapping between green and red (mostly red). They each seem to be above a door. Doors like his. So are there more people in tubes? Fockle shudders at the thought for a moment. And what do the red lights mean? Does that mean the occupants got out? If so then there aren't many people left here.

205272278_Frame9.png.931cb5587a61226d67dc6ff2a15332a1.png

After sufficiently taking in his surroundings, Fockle decides to feel along the wall closest to him. While walking he bumps into a small metal object on the ground, but decides to ignore it for now. Fockle hopes to locate a light switch, like the one in the room he woke up in. Thankfully, just a few careful steps from his door Fockle's hand brushes over something that feels like a switch. Flicking it on, he hears the static hum of fluorescent lights, and suddenly he is bathed in a painful white light that has him blinking furiously. After Fockle's eyes adjust to the brightness, he sees that several fluorescent lights on the roof of the corridor around him have come on. Most of them didn't switch on or are flickering, but the two directly above seem to be working fine.

Fockle then has a proper look around, he is standing next to a light switch and a fire extinguisher both on the wall, beneath a sign that depicts stairs to the right. He notices there are labels next to the doors, the door he had come from is labelled "CRYO 0498" and the one adjacent to it is labelled "CRYO 0499". These numbers are in sequence, suggesting that there are, or were, more than 500 people in tubes in this building. Fockle can't believe it at first, but figures there will be a lot of things that are difficult to believe after so long in the tube.

Fockle then has a closer look at his door. The handle is definitely missing. Instead of being where it should, it's lying on the ground- it must've been the metal object that he kicked. There are also clipboards hanging on the wall of the corridor, next to each door. There doesn't seem to be anything else noteworthy about his surroundings.

What next?

Chapter 6: A New Face

Action: Examine clipboards.

ajstorey465

Fockle is quite interested in these official looking clipboards up on the wall. He steps closer to the one right next to his door, and removes it from the small metal hook it was hanging on. A few sheets of paper are attached to the clipboard, as well as what seems to be a click-pen. The words "CRYO GEN" appear at the top of first paper, underneath it looks to be some patient information concerning Fockle. He removes his wallet and compares the sheet of paper to his ID card, they both have the same information, including the same picture. So this document definitely has to do with Fockle. Below all that information, however, there's some more text.

A date, with the abbreviation D.O.C. preceding it, and then the abbreviation D.O.R. preceding what looks to be an empty date field. The first date must be when he entered the tube, the Alex person made it seem as if some time had passed while Fockle was in the tube, so these tube things are obviously some kind of stasis devices. The first date reads 24.05.2102, and Fockle's date of birth is listed under the patient information and on his ID card as 01.04.2061, putting him at about 41 years of age when he went into stasis. Assuming these stasis tubes worked properly, he should still be 41 years old. Biologically. Fockle isn't sure how old he is chronologically, and the more he thinks about it the more his head hurts. Instead he turns his attention back to the clipboard.

There's some text at the bottom of the paper, typical business nonsense about terms and conditions with whoever this "Cryo Gen" corporation is. They must be the people in charge of this whole operation. The other papers in the stack look like some form of a contract, with text of a ridiculously small font and multiple fields to sign. There's a signature that looks it would belong to Fockle, but he can't be certain. Nothing else about this clipboard seems to be important.

203783487_Frame11.png.97b62697acc4f8a39188a92231916081.png

Fockle glances over at the clipboard next to the door adjacent to his. Are there others like him in here? He walks over and inspects it, which is largely identical to his, except the patient information differs, as well as the date this person was put into stasis. There's a picture, it's of a woman. She has shoulder-length dark red hair and light blue eyes, her cheeks are slightly pink and her mouth is on the smaller side. Over all she looks quite attractive, although Fockle isn't 100% sure what would pass as attractive in these times. He inspects her information, and sees that her name is Liza Venreille, and her birth date is 03.08.2078, making here around 25 years old when she was put in stasis. She certainly has the young complexion to match it.

5940524_Frame12.png.b6dc66718fc93d2ca38251d42fffffce.png

Fockle puts the clipboard back and wonders about the state of Liza. This is the only other person he's seen since he's woken up, even if just through a picture, and he couldn't help but wonder if her situation is better or worse than his. The light above her door is green, so that would probably mean she's still in her tube. Fockle's curiosity gets the better of him and he attempts to open the door, but it's locked. Feeling a little disappointed at the impossibility of meeting someone new, he focuses on his next move.

What is his next move?
