Procedure and Narrative

Test subject bluespace golem 'Danulem' had their brain removed by Dr. Kala Vanteil, brain was inserted into an MMI unit, while the original body was kept in a bodybag to observe what might happen to the body. Dr. Kala Vanteil and I were tight for time due to an emegency shuttle call, so we decided to insert the MMI now containing the bluespace golems brain into a spiderbot. Golem still retained it's original intent. Which was to assist it's masters to the best of it's ability. Subject was taken to Odin with us, and is currently being observed.

Results and Concluding Statement

Results: Subject Danulem was able to be successfully transferred to a cybernetic host, and retains all original intentions.

Concluding Statement: Bluespace golems are capable of having their brains transplanted into another being. Shall test on a human host as soon as my observations have been finished.

Tools:

  • One frost smoke grenade
  • Fire extinguisher
  • Screwdriver
  • Syringe
  • Circular saw
  • Scalpel

Resources:

  • One large chemical grenade casing
  • Igniter-timer assembly
  • Two large beakers
  • Water tanks for extinguisher supply

Chemicals:

  • Frost Oil
  • Phosphorus
  • Potassium
  • Sugar (All of these ingredients in equal parts.)

Procedure and Narrative

This experiment was conducted in order to better observe and understand the behavioral patterns of slimes in an overpopulated controlled environment. The initial setup was the placement of a single baby slime in a xenobiology pen which allowed venting into space aboard the NSS Aurora. An approximately infinite supply of monkey cubes was generated by farming grey slime cores in the other pens and injecting them with a dead monkey's blood. The overcrowding pen was then fed monkeys through a disposal system which deposited the monkeys into the pen for consumption. This process was repeated continually over the span of approximately two hours in order to inflate the population of the pen until over thirty slimes were living in the crowded space. Their behaviors were noted and observed, and in order to cleanup the experiment as it drew to a close, a cold smoke grenade was deposited into the pen after activation, and froze almost all slimes to death. The grenade was constructed by filling two beakers with the required chemicals for this experiment, and using a timer-igniter assembly as the means of activation. The remaining surivivors were weakened and finished off with simple fire extinguishers.

Results and Concluding Statement

Results: The slimes behavior seemed to lack coherent and intelligent thought. At first, a trend wherein baby slimes were given priority to feed was thought to have been observed, but this correlation quickly dissolved as there seemed to be no power-structure for feeding priority. They did not organize in any manner, and no breed of slime appeared to take control of the pen. As the situation progressed, and the pen became overcrowded, the slimes which were able to eat did so on a first come first serve basis on the virtue of being on top of the disposal unit which ejected monkeys into the room. Despite the advantageous position of being near the disposals, the slimes did not appear to be territorial in any way or form. They did not fight to claim the resource rich position, and nor did slimes there struggle to monopolize it. After some time when many of the slimes were completely unfed, the group away from the disposal outlet began becoming exceptionally violent as they all began smashing into the pen windows. The revolt seemed universal, but it is not possible to separate coordination of the event from the fact that unfed slimes always turn violent. Finally, a frost smoke grenade was deposited into the room and proved to be super-effective in exterminating slimes as all but two were slain, with the survivors being incredibly weak and simple to finish off.

Concluding Statement: Slime feeding hierarchies appear to revolve around a first-come-first-serve basis. However, they are not territorial, and will not claim territory on their own nor take from each other. Despite decreased mobility due to overcrowding, no aberrant or peculiar behavior was observed.

Project Name: The Dom'Pesh-Richardson Effect

Project Goal: To understand local bluespace phenomena while it is occurring.

Utilities Disclosure

Tools:

  • One telepad and teleportation control console
  • Three GPS devices

Resources:

  • Four bluespace crystals

Procedure and Narrative

Reports had come in that there was a local distortion in bluespace which were creating anomalous effects for telepad teleportation technology. Armed with this information, Dr. Viktor Jonson and Dr. Shkor-Dyet Dom'Pesh set out to perform local bluespace topographical mapping based on this information. The procedure thusly, a test GPS was placed on the telepad, and other GPS devices were utilized in order to determine the positions which the GPS was teleported to. The power was kept at a constant value, and the bearing remained at zero degrees the entire experiment. The experiment was also performed on one calibration so that the power and bearing offsets were constant while testing, so as not to disturb the data. The control variable was elevation, which was modulated to affect displacement which was plotted as a function of elevation.

Results and Concluding Statement

Results: By testing with various elevations, a clear trend was discovered. Smaller elevations created larger displacements in the trend displayed in Figure 1 below. All though it was not plotted, the displacement when elevation was 90 degrees was zero.

af67db16be40d60b512a9d17137a225d.png

Figure 1 Plot of displacement as a function of elevation

This trend appears to be approximately sinusoidal in nature, albeit with some strange behavior in the middle range of the elevations. This could, however, be due in part to the fact that the telepad seems to be programmed to only teleport items to whole meter locations, which may have cause some interesting rounding errors. Below in Table 1 is the data collected from the experiment which was used to construct the graph above.

Table 1 Data collected from the bluespace topographical mapping

Concluding Statement: There is a potentially temporal bluespace anomaly in the area around the NSS Exodus which has created conditions such that displacement is an approximately sinusoidal function of the elevation.

This may come off strange, critiquing my own reports, but here I go. I have constructed the sinusoidal function which approximates the displacement function related to the elevation. Instead of using a cosine function, I modified a sine function by 90 degrees.

Additionally, referring back to the second research report, Project Tenement, the results of that research report are no longer applicable aboard the NSS Exodus. Project Tenement II is in progress in order to adjust for the change in observable slime behavior.

Project Name: SenseRx "Sensory Prosthetic" Unit - Codename "Adolph"

Project Goal: Development of a mechanical prosthetic able to replicate the sense of touch in it's users.

Resources:

  • SenseRx "Adolph" MkI x 3

Procedure and Narrative

To start I'd like to thank those that helped in the development of the initial design for this project within the organization.

First, this project has originated from previous "Feel" model mechanical prosthetics that have been patented in the past however have never gained any market traction because of a variety of flaws (External Ugliness, Weight, Complicated Technology, Etc.) and has been seriously improved upon to fit into a very basic modified shell for an unbranded mechanical right arm. I will detail in length the processes by which the arm functions to help establish a better idea of how it works. The tl;dr version however is this: I have created a marketable prosthetic arm that restores some basic sense of feeling in the user.

System 1 & 2 - The arm functions because of two independent systems: An added on array of electronics and electrodes I've dubbed "E-Packs" that are stored internally within the mechanical arm to be as unobtrusive as humanly possible and the normal prosthetic system itself. Both operate by connection to the nerves at the base of the shoulder or wrist, but these two systems are broken apart from each other in the event that the "Feeling" function of the Adolph is broken, the arm will still function as normal. The best way to represent this would be as Input and Output, the normal prosthetic receiving input from the nervous system and outputting a form of movement. This system instead inputs signals from sensors installed into a modified version of the arm and sends it through the nervous system to receive a message. Of course this unable to be accomplished with some form of additional surgery which brings me to the second part of the design.

The E-Packs themselves have to be (Currently fairly painfully) installed into the nervous system from the exterior of the arm (This function is easily accomplished with a standard NT wrench, as there are exterior bolts on a modified version of the arm that basically "screw" into the base of the shoulder or wrist) to be able to translate and send messages through the brain without requiring additional implants in the subjects nervous system that could be hazardous to the user. Current models use no implants, but have electrodes embedded into the flesh that *must* be surgically removed before full arm amputation or regular maintenance l'est there is risk to the user. The operation, however, is not complex at all and can be accomplished by your standard roboticist as the design has been made with simplicity in mind.

Bugs- Currently there are a number of faults as the sensors and signals actively run off an internal battery rather than any sort of mechanical process giving them a maximum time of one month before battery replacement. In addition (Discerned after non-human test) there is a breaking point to the current sensors that when lifting too much weight (Currently not discerned) the system shorts out and the patient can no longer experience sensation in the unit requiring replacement. Patients, especially those who have not had their original limbs for a very long time, report the feeling as being somewhat alien. Current problems with the design is that removal is extremely painful and hard to preform as the arm offers sense and therefor pain back to the user. It is currently recommended that those who undergo the procedure to test one of the designs keep it for some time for their senses to adjust back to the feeling to minimize potential pain during removal.

First Trials - The Adolph is named so because of my first willing patient to try the design. He begun by preforming the procedure to himself to attach the arm and then proceeded to remove it the same. This was absolutely absurd as the pain experienced should've replicated that of losing an original flesh arm. I have hence named it after the patient, Adolph Hammerstein (A fellow Roboticist and waivered to allow disclosure.) The patient expressed dissatisfaction with the unit for it's alien feeling and preformed a self-removal of the arm. However, it did bring back a primitive form of feeling.

Due to legal constraints, I am not allowed to disclose the identities of two more patients who have undergone the procedure to test the arm. However, they currently report satisfaction to have some form of returned feeling and are extremely eager to test out more designs. I will attempt to have them waived so that I may disclose their own comments.

Results and Concluding Statement

Results:

Patients attached with the arm express the ability to feel a very basic form of feeling, similar to pressure along their entire arm when lifting objects of varying weights and feeling more pressure when lifting heavier objects. Sensors initially are shown to be very dull (A patient attempting to hold a pen could not feel it for it's insignificant weight). Currently undergoing further trials and will work on declassifying patients in coming time. I will attempt to keep the project updated regarding results.

Concluding Statement:

I have a pending patent for this technology, but am looking for an opportunity to get a research grant and additional assistance to work on the Prototype to better improve it. Any comments or assistance in this matter would be appreciated, as I'm not even sure NT has a grant board. I'm not sure if they want us to make the same thirty something things over and over until we die.
