Type (Species/Company/History/Other): Clone

Relevant Dates: 3/15/2460

Basic Description: NanoTrasen clones CCIAC Penny, to test a new animal cloning technique.

Long Description: Exciting news today as NanoTrasen, in partnership with scientists from Necropolis Industries and Zeng-Hu, unveils a clone of a beloved NanoTrasen mascot, Penny, utilizing a revolutionary new technique. The feat is a first for felines, and despite limitations, it could lead to affordable pet options for Tau Ceti citizens. Previous attempts to clone felines, although successful, were a time-consuming process, and often led to genetic issues requiring secondary treatment. "Penny II is healthy," Zeng-Hu scientist Josiah Curry answered at a press release yesterday, "Although her personality is different than her host. Whereas Penny I is very playful, her clone is somewhat shy and timid. We're sure it's nothing bad." We've been informed that the process utilized a donor egg from the original cat, and split it into identical copies. "We have plans for Penny III," Curry elaborated, "Although it's mostly to see if we can clone her." The team emphasized their group was following intergalactic guidelines for the treatment of the animals, and that they "receive adequate headscratches."

Why are we recieving news from 100 years into the future? Why is this technique revolutionary when we have the ability to create healthy clones of animals in real life? Why is NanoTrasen sharing cutting new techniques with its bitter rivals? This application seems very much like it wants to canonize a pet project and that is really getting the fur flying. I'm just not feelin' it. It's a faux-paws. I don't mean to be catty about it.

Cloning of pet animals is applicable in real life, and possible. You can get your cat cloned for $32,000 in 2018. That seems like a decent bar to reach in terms of who would buy cloned pets. It is a novelty for the wealthy.

Other mega-corporations are already included. As rival corporations competing with NanoTrasen. They do not cooperate any more than north korea cooperates with south korea. They are enemies. They engage in corporate espionage with each other. Dropping names nonsensically where it does not make sense is not a worthwhile activity, it's fanservice. Fanservice that breaks the reality of the setting. You are not showing good faith with this application with how you are disregarding these facts.

Application declined.
