[Accepted]Wiebman's Tajaran whitelist application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Wiebman

Character Names: Romayne Smirnov, Gervasio Robustelli

Species you are applying to play: Tajara

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Propably one of the ’Akhran, so a cinnamon-y or cream color.

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race: Because I think that Tajara behavior has some fun implications for roleplaying, they are open to the types of jobs I like playing, and I think that visually, they look cool.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: For one, their obvious restriction on the head positions, but also their way of talking, different personalities, the mechanics regarding heat, gloves, shoes, and the possibility of being on the receiving end of some space-racism.

Character Name: Samuel Ibn Najjar

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Samuel grew up in Nal'tor, as the son of his father, Abbas Ibn Najjar. As a member of the Njarir, and coincidentally as a noble, Samuel got into, what would be considered by Tajara norms, a good school for education. At the age of 18, he went into training with the military, before assisting in the military as well. Samuel was proudly employed in the people's army of Adhomai (The republican/loyalist army, -not that he truly was such a loyalist, but rather that he just took pride in his job. Samuel did not really care much for the politics, or ideas of the loyalists, but he obviously did not fight them either-), for 5 years, as infantry member in the Ras'Nrr Military district, on the Rhazar Front, 4th army, 22nd division, in the 63th brigade.

After Samuel's service, he "retired", needing some peace after his service, he "retired" to a calmer region, where he worked as a farmhand for two years, before growing tired again, of a now *too* calm life. Samuel had gotten wind of Nanotrasen's search for crew on their stations. Samuel quickly applied, and was later accepted.

After being accepted, Samuel was transferred to one of Nanotrasen's stations, where, after a month of basic training, he moved up from assistant, to cargo technician, a job which he still employs to this day, this time, with pride for his job, and the company.

What do you like about this character?: Samuel has lead a varied life, up to now, and because of his history, it wouldn't be that weird for him to play as a member of cargo, or employ the role of a security officer. He also takes pride in what he does, and who he is.

How would you rate your role-playing ability? I don't know, I think that would be around a 7/7.5 maybe, I've roleplayed for +6 years now, and I think I'm decent, but definitely not the best, nor is English my mother language, but I always try to do my best.

Notes: I've played on SS13 for about 5 years now, although I've only fairly recently started playing on Aurora. That being said, I almost never played on more game-heavy (as opposed to roleplay-heavy) servers, like most TG's, or Goon, I've played on Apollo for a long time.

Hello! I will be providing feedback for this application tomorrow after I return from work (which will be a bit late at night on the American east coast). In the intervening 24 hours or so, you should try your best to accumulate as much feedback from other players as possible, as feedback means a world of difference to me when reviewing an application.

From the limited rounds I've played with Wiebman, I can see they RP well enough and they don't really create a lot of OOC trouble. The backstory seems solid enough, imparting the story of a loyal soldier, albeit I find it odd that someone who saw a position in the army as prestigious would be happy as a cargo tech, perhaps being a QM would be more suited.

Despite that, this app gets my +1.

Hello! I just wanted to come in and let you know that I will be passing judgement on this tomorrow. This application is a hard one to make a decision on and I want to sleep on it and think about it before providing full feedback. In the intervening hours, see about getting more feedback as it makes my job far easier.

Yeah, I understand, I've been doing my best to get feedback, but I'm fairly new on the server, so it's not that easy to come by, and my computer apparently died yesterday.

I'm a bit disappointed this application started off not using a paragraph to answer the first two questions as they request, but as usual, there's not terribly much weight on those questions. However, once again, I like that you've focused moreso on the differences in roleplaying them rather than pure mechanical differences, and it's also a huge plus that you haven't fixated on their feline aesthetic at all. It gives me a glimpse into the purity of your intentions to play the race and leaves me with the impression that it's not for purposes of fursona-ry.

Now, onto the backstory. I like that you've included that he's coincidentally a noble as well as a Njarir. It's the first time in an application that I've seen a distinction between the race and the social class, which I never intended to be mutually inclusive. Most Njarir are nobles, but not all of them. Heck, even not all nobles are Njarir as indicated by a certain bastard child, Field-Marshal Rrhazhal Zarkradar'Akhan, who is one of the most powerful people in the traditionalist NKA. This one little detail you've included pleases me greatly.

It's worth noting though that Nobility in the PRA aren't really a thing anymore. There has been a legal abolition of social classes by the Party, and while party members are de facto a higher class, labelling oneself as a noble is extreme taboo. Treason, even. How did the noble Ibn Najjar family survive the brutal communist revolution which ended a few decades prior? It's here that I have a few suggestions to flesh out some details while fitting perfectly into the narrative. Perhaps the Ibn Najjar family sided with the Hadii family when they defected to the rebel's side during the revolution, saving themselves a comfortable spot in the aftermath of the revolution. Samuel's parents could likely be some mid-level bureaucrats working in the PRAs seat of power as comfortable living, card-carrying party members. Other than the question of heritage and parentage, Samuel's backstory checks out. A former soldier (likely officer given his upbringing, education, and heritage) who wanted to live a quiet life, but decided rural bumpkin life wasn't for him. The inclusion of the rural side of Adhomai was also a nice touch as majority of the planet's population are still agricultural peasants.

One last thing I really enjoyed about this application was the complete lack of a grimdark aesthetic. Samuel grew up a Njarir - the wealthiest and typically best off race - in the city which is the wealthiest on the planet and the seat of power for the world's strongest faction, and all around seems to have a good attitude. While he surely has some war stories, I like that he seems to be happy and well off as is befitting his undoubtedly comfortable position.

A few things I want to know before I decide on this application are this:

1. (Reiterated from above) How did his family get by the first revolution?

2. (Reiterated from above) What does Samuel's parents do for a living?

3. Samuel seems to have a remarkable and diligent work ethic, but what does he enjoy outside of work? What are his hobbies?

4. What are his hopes, dreams, and ambitions?

5.) How does his family feel about him and his life's activities so far?

Once these are answered, I'll be glad to make a decision.

A few things I want to know before I decide on this application are this:

1. (Reiterated from above) How did his family get by the first revolution?

The Ibn Najjar family did indeed side with the Hadii's, their own family being less minded on accumulating wealth, and more on collecting literature and arts, they did not mind that much to defect with them, as they were not that bent on keeping slaves as some of the other nobility, after the revolution, they did their best to spread their knowledge with the other rebels, after that they stayed with the Hadii family, through both president Rhagrrhuzau Hadii, and his follower, Njadrasanukii Hadii, (leading up to the next question.)

2. (Reiterated from above) What does Samuel's parents do for a living?

Under both presidents, they occupied office jobs, as accountants, mostly managing the militairy budgets of the people's republic's army.

3. Samuel seems to have a remarkable and diligent work ethic, but what does he enjoy outside of work? What are his hobbies?

Samuel enjoys a lot of things, while he is though when he needs to be, he also has a soft soul. He enjoys reading books in his downtime, while smoking pipe, listening to music, watching movies, (recently he has taken a liking to watching old human movies). He likes socialising with others, and travelling as well, to experience other cultures, admire their architecture, and nature.

4. What are his hopes, dreams, and ambitions?

Samuel has ambitions of climbing ranks. He knows that it isn't easy for a Tajaran, to climb the ladder, but he would like a decent job, and a solid income, so that he may retire later in his life, and travel parts of the galaxy.

He wouldn't mind a companion, but he is not actively looking for a partner, as he is close to his family, but also perfectly able to live, travel, or work alone, and meet people on the way.

As part of his travellings, he would love to write about his activities, and maybe publish his stories later in life.

5.) How does his family feel about him and his life's activities so far?

He does not have a lot of extended family left, but he does keep regular contact with his parents, often visiting them in his vacations. While they do not particularly approve of his spirit of adventure, -they would rather have had him stay on Adhomai, and maybe employ an office job similar to theirs-, they don't hold any sort of grudge, as long as he stays out of trouble.

While aversion to literature is an aspect of Tajara lore, it's forgiveable to have characters who enjoy books.

Everything seems to check out here, I've really come around to the Samuel Ibn Najjar character concept and hope to see you on the station some time.

Application accepted.
