  1. Let's say I have a young janitor who is aspiring to get his PHD and become a scientist. What is a believable way to advance his education, experience, and age so that he can eventually move on to a new job without having to take a huge amount of time IRL waiting years just to switch an existing character over to his new career?
  2. Thanks! Your feedback on discord actually helped me out quite a bit.
  3. I would have put this in the op, but my app is slowly sinking to the bottom so I figured it wouldn't hurt to bump it. If anyone has any criticisms or feedback on my app, regardless of whether they know me or my characters, feel free to say something! Any feedback is appreciated.
  4. BYOND Key: Skorvold Character Names: Van Skorvold, Wulfsige Tamaska Species you are applying to play: Tajara-Hharar What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Taupe Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I desire to play a race plagued by major internal conflict and to explore the morals behind the views of the different factions born from the initial war.I also thoroughly enjoy the slower technological progression of the Tajara as a whole, and the overall awkwardness of their race being exposed to higher technology as abruptly as they have been. However, the most interesting attribute about the race as a whole are the three factions that have developed different ideologies and hostilities towards each other, with one receiving special attention from Nanotrasen. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The most defining feature about roleplay as a Tajara for me are the different ethnicities and their relation to the former caste system. Despite going through a devastating war for freedom, the difference in ethnic groups holds true, and provides an interesting cause for interaction on how each group is viewed, not just from the standpoint of an alien, but with internal views as well. Character Name: Mikvrel'Syahkrl Srrijcha Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Born on the fringe of Nal'Tor, Mikvrel never found herself struggling to get by. Though far from well off, her mother worked tirelessly to keep them afloat, and often put Mikvrel upon a pedestal, barring her from most physical labor and spoiling her when given the chance. This behavior was further reinforced by the lack of her father's presence, whom had left her mother not long before Mikvrel was born. This behavior eventually came to an end on 2452, where Mikvrel's aging mother was able to work less and less, leading Mikvrel to reluctantly take up most of her responsibilities, used to a rather sheltered life by Tajaran standards. Despite her lacking work ethic, she found an intense desire to pursue education, however limited it may be. Zealous in her desire to read, she took up what information she could on the history of her people, and while much of it was clearly biased, she was quite interested in the old nobility. The more she read, the more she began to envy, and eventually desire to be them. With this knowledge came a hidden fear of being unable to rise any higher than she currently was in her society, whether due to her race or the invasive nature of the Republic. At this time, the whispers of ALA rebels occupying the fringes of Nal'Tor became more frequent, and Mikvrel eventually found herself the subject of regular searches, her interest in education making her home a target of suspicion. A depression set in for Mikvrel, and for a short time she settled into daily life. That is, until she was given the opportunity to leave Adhomai for work in Tau Ceti. Seeing a possibility to rise through a different power structure, she began to laboriously work on her speech and education in the scant time she was not working, for she believed the first step in order to advance in society was to make herself less "alien". Ever eager to start as high as she could within a potential workplace, she set her sights on the College of Career Excellence. Despite her desire to fit in she began to develop a more cynical nature, and on occasion at work, she would often berate her co-workers and leave much of her responsibility for others to pick up on. This quickly earned the hatred of her peers, climaxing in a threat to report falsified information involving her with the ALA. In a desperate attempt to prevent herself from being accused of treason, she paid off her angered co-workers with whatever she could, squandering her attempts at higher education. Brushing it off as a minor fluke in a life soon to be filled with success, she boarded the shuttle with a hopeful heart, and went out into the unknown. What do you like about this character? I enjoy Mikvrel's desire to get past the limiting factors of how she started out. I also find great humor in her desire to rise to a noble-like position or to advance through a power structure to become respected, despite the fact that if she were to advance at all within Nanotrasen, it would only mean more responsibility and work, which she despises. I am extremely interested in developing this character and seeing which of the many roads she may take, whether it be continuing on her path and becoming quite disliked due to her snooty nature, or becoming a decent person and co-worker, accepting that she may never advance, because she is just fine how she is. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would rate my ability to roleplay as quite well. Despite this, the two characters I have listed are not good indicators of my ability, as I have always over-characterized them, making certain aspects show more than others as for a long time I lacked the desire to roleplay seriously within Space Station 13. I would ask that any who know me through either of these characters look past my rowdy and wild way of playing, and see that I simply want to actually put effort into a decent character in order to create interesting and memorable roleplay. Notes: Former /tg/station13 admin. Most of my roleplay experience comes from tabletop games, though I have spent a lot of time on Baystation and /tg/station13 as Van Skorvold as well. I wanted to add that while my character is making an attempt to fit into a new environment by correcting her way of speech to be more proper, I am not trying to make her human. She will almost always speak to other Tajara in the Tajara typical way, and will often slip up and refer to herself in the third person as attempts to change speech mannerisms can be difficult. She is only trying to be more human towards humans.
