Character Names:Otumo "Oatmeal Bun" Bunshuru
Species you are applying to play:Unathi
What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):A specific kind of green that I don't actually know the name of. Is it really necessary that I find out?
Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Reading the updated aurora station wiki has let me find even more incidental connections between how I'd been writing this character and Aurora's version of the lore. Making the effort to refer to staff by their full occupation title, the concept of a spirit being transferred between cloned bodies, a nostalgic excitement when space carp is brought to the kitchen and an emphasis on empty-palmed combat for hunting/close quarters in general to subdue targets. In addition the development of guilds fixed the monumentally stupid notion of clans going to war over whom gets the right to certain scientific information. It's much less painful to read through.
Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question
Why do you wish to play this specific race:
Not sure if this needs an entire paragraph. The character I've been using to play space station 13 on another server is already a lizardman. While some would frown upon using a character multiple times for a game like this, I found that I quite liked the direction I'd managed to take him in and that my behavior as him has matched a few of the Unathi's behavioral tendencies.
Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:
As I have had sort of a trial run of this species on a smaller server using the baycode, I appreciated the idea of a slightly stronger character with more ponderous movements, which fit with my style of reacting to common player threats where my method revolves heavily around standing by a choke point and attempting to force them close enough to disable in close quarters. With regards to the social aspects, the requirement to have a softer limit on alcohol consumption has also fit how I've already been using the character, as it becomes nigh impossible to speak clearly after what seemed like small servings of alcohol, leading to me avoiding it for anything but in-game buffs. Finally, while race can't entirely determine a character's personality, there are some holdovers that can almost never be changed, such as the Unathi's forms of showing affection.
Character Name:Otumo Bunshuru
Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs
Otumo has spent most of his life off-planet. He hails from a clan of unathi that took to the stars to take part in intergalactic cultural preservation societies. His parents were historians from the Izweski Nation, with connections to clans outside of the untouched lands. He took great interest in sports and empty-handed martial arts from Earth after being introduced to human society. Sumotori (sumo wrestling) is what he eventually decided to focus on after some coaxing by his parents to participate in a craft from another planet, inspired by the ideal of maximizing the strength and force that one's body can achieve while still maintaining close contact and flexibility, in addition to the sports aspect. The strict regimen and lifestyle that the wrestlers go through, however, took a serious toll on his mind. Long hours of exercise, cooking, training, competing and sleeping meant no time for socializing outside of the group he trained under. He chose to break off from the historical preservation group to simply become a cook using the skills he'd gained from working with the team, working on a trade depot for some time. With no real aspirations after this, Nanotrasen managed to get him interested with an offer to work for them. He did have a decent amount on his resume, after all.
What do you like about this character?
I especially like the fact that I didn't have to write an essay on my character before using it on the original server I played on. Absolutely nothing I can think of saying sounds like a good reason to like a character other than what I've already stated in the "what makes this species different from a human" section.
How would you rate your role-playing ability?
Fairly proficient. Although I've never taken to writing anything on my own and uploading or publishing it, I have been roleplaying online for years and am generally well-received if I happen to become a regular in a community.
Notes:I still hate writing out backstories. Unless it is literally required that I rewrite my backstory in order to incoporate more of your version of the Unathi's culture,
