March 25th was my first attempt to connect to the server. It had already stated at that point that I had been banned, but I was too frustrated at the time to do anything about it. (And concerned, for that matter. It is frightening to start a game for the first time, only to discover that you have already been banned.) I am also lazy, and I had a feeling that getting unbanned would be an involved process that I simply did not feel like dealing with at the time.
Here are a few ideas off the top of my head of what may have caused this situation to occur:
1.) IP addresses can be dynamically assigned by the ISP, and they DO NOT check whether or not they have been used before.
2.) IP addresses can be spoofed.
3.) You could be banning an IP range, which would mean that if my IP address is similar enough to that of the perpetrator, I would also be banned.
That being said, I have no idea how to prove to you with one hundred percent certainty that I am not that person.
If it works the way I think it does, you could unban just this account (cyanlaser121), and one of two things could happen:
1.) I demonstrate appropriate behavior, and the perpetrator is still banned because they do not have access to this account. Problem solved.
2.) I do not demonstrate appropriate behavior, and you simply ban me again. Problem solved.
I understand that this would take a degree of trust, and I am sure that Nevermore44 and Quinndolyn (If I am getting her Byond name correct) can vouch for my innocence. However, if you are unwilling to give me a chance, I could understand that too.
