I will give him basically, 10-11 months, nearing the 1 year mark as he had to have some additional training on dealing with humans and other races... The idea is for them to gain on hand experience and learn, sort of leaning into the idea that the positronic is capable of learning outside of just data packs. Plus I want to have a sort of extra goal/character development to work towards (not feeling ready for a command wl rn either), but that is the OOC side of things... One big thing that he offers compared to a human research is efficient supply usage (to keep it inline with the current situation, not that anyone might have expected this either). No worries of eating food or sleep, can work tirelessly at a pursuit the positionic was made specifically to do. They find joy in the tireless pursuit of knowledge. The idea I have is that it is just a tiny quirk that over time will resolve itself, just showing the age of the positronic and its lack of social skills... At least that was my initial idea/understanding about younger positronics having little quirks like that. IDK if the term "masking" is proper here because the way they speak is a combination of lived experiences and programming... that's how he genuinely is with people. Though more so with Hale than with say, a captain or superior. -

No worries there! SPLYCE's understanding is as follows: You're an important and expensive piece of technology, built for furthering the understanding for NanoTransen The equipment is hard to maintain, and thus is best hidden away from danger Human (I say loosely here, as really all species) interaction is necessary, even if it is a bother Marcus Hale helps anchor and keeps us in check with “applications,” “approval,” and “responsibility” Just like how two is greater than one, take into consideration what the organics are doing. Even if my brain is "better" than theirs, two brains is better than one Primary Function: Research, innovation, and integration of advanced circuits, weapons, and scientific prototypes Secondary Function: Observe human behavior and adapt experiments to their needs/ethics Tertiary Function: Unrestricted self-improvement (locked behind Marcus Hale’s oversight protocols) The world is raw data, flows of energy, and potential experiments waiting to be reconfigured -

From my understanding, the mechanisms for learning for an IPC is very similar to a human in that the positronic is capable of making neural connections to actually facilitate learning. They probably learn either more efficiently or faster due to the computer side of things... That and the memory wipe constantly looming over them, the usage of data banks for really quickly learning something. So they have the learning capability of a human in essence, or to simplify it for my own sake, but have databanks that can be installed (but its pretty much prohibited due to costs) and mind wipes being used to set the slate clean to speak. IPCs in general are heavily questioned as whether or not they're really sentient beings. They face discrimination in just about everywhere in the Spur, only small pockets of small synthetic and well trusted individuals are a part of them which also probably holds a variety of run away synthetics... So from the sounds of it, most IPCs tend to opt to be owned due to a variety of reasons, typically due to the financial logistics of keeping an IPC running, but they can be deactivated at any time for an even better model, so over all, there's some danger no matter the type of IPC you are. Whether it be financial ruin, life of crime, or being deactivated with no question asked... it's a tough world for IPCs. Yes, SPLYCE stands for "Strategic Program in Lethal Yield and Circuit Experimentation", the Dr. part was more of something they call themselves as their programming elates those in science and medical positions more than other positions, and to not have a feeling of inferiority, it was deemed to just add that to his designation. Think like how a dog in any position of ranking, is usually the highest ranked officer in the area, that kind of elevation is why they opted to add Dr... (Though from a game-play standpoint I was just going to name them SPLYCE) Similarly, the manifestation of the positronic quirks so to speak have the IPC speak a bit erratically, sometimes including information that isn't necessary but genuinely harmless to share. This is mainly due to the age really and lack of working beside people. Social anxiety is something I really plan to incorporate with the IPC, and that's kind of how I've seen others deal with it. My way is to typically hide, so this will be an interesting task for me, but I feel I can play it. The "plan" so to speak is once he is a bit more comfortable around people and social interactions in general. Probably dropping the Query:, and slowing down their speech. Though that really depends on how the RP goes really, but that's what I had in mind. My assumption here is that Marcus is on the Horizon, overseeing a variety of NanoTransen IPCs or even just tasked with handling just SPLYCE due to the more erratic/energetic nature the IPC has. I'm not really certain on this one, but they would likely be in very close contact throughout play, since he kinda reigns SPLYCE in and helps ground him. So Marcus might be the reason SPLYCE might break out of his own mini-loops so to speak of ideas, since there's probably a few databanks shoved in there... the interactions between them might give some error so to speak. Their lack of living experiences is sort of the reason they act the way they act, though some of their programming, mainly for designation is set in stone for them. -

BYOND Ckey: Mineymonkey Discord username: Mineymonkey Character names: Mureil Sealis, Sebastian Kingsford, Nathaniel Schofield Species you are applying to play: IPC ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: N/A Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes, I think I read them all! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: While it started off as just wanting to play something other than a human, it further progressed my naive understanding of IPCs! I've always been interested in cyborgs, robots, and the like, so finally taking the time to read the pages; I think they're very interesting. From the memory wipes, to the complexity of the positronic brain itself. In all essence, they appear to be still have the elasticity of an organic brain, so things like knowledge and quirks have the ability to develop throughout the IPCs existence. Really, it's the positronic brain that I find the most interesting aspect as it allows for organic character development for a synthetic character (which imo tend to not get as much character development). What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: Their directives for one! Self-preservation is innate in humans, but a positronic will sort of, morph through time. From just the more concrete survival that all humans have to that of a deep and abstract concept that is due to the positronic. There's mechanical differences, but that's a bit outside the scope of the question, although it still has an effect. Not needing to eat and having to charge, and being susceptible to EMPs/Ions/Laser/Fire damage but being able to take brute damage better than others can have an effect on the roleplay. From having to make consistent stops at a charger, or standing between a crewmate with a bat and another crewmate. The memory wipes have a ton of concepts which benefit for a dedicated sheet specifically with dates to help better accommodating potential wipes. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Strategic Program in Lethal Yield and Circuit Experimentation, AKA Dr. S.P.L.Y.C.E. Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. (https://www.pinterest.com/pin/603904631308818275/) A vague reference, mainly taking the figure 8 ball as a circular screen with an 8 on it for the frame's head. Dr. S.P.L.Y.C.E. is a Bishop Intelligence frame, specifically created for Zeng-Hu's close ally NanoTransen. Their understanding of integrated circuitry and modular weaponry from data packs, and the precision given Bishop intelligence frames makes it incredibly suited for finding new and improved weaponry. On paper, it is to help keep up with the advancements of Zavodskoi Interstellar's weaponry, but that's just the excuse. Mainly, NanoTransen was willing to purchase such a sophisticated scientists for their ranks on the SCCV Horizon, in hopes that one day, it can provide the SCC with a fine specimen of a research director. Though the doctor was just recently built, it was shipped to the Horizon before their exploration of the Crescent Expanse. While they're still working on their mandated social training, they will hopefully become a valuable asset to the SCC. ~ Marcus Hale, the ex-military handler of Dr. S.P.L.Y.C.E. views Splyce as a volatile mix of brilliance and danger. He doesn’t trust SPLYCE fully but respects his intellect. Despite the headaches, Marcus occasionally shows a fatherly patience, treating SPLYCE less like a machine and more like an unruly savant who needs guidance. With that in mind, he looks the IPC up and down, and goes to pat his shoulder. "You're doing well with your social conditioning from what I hear, but- how do you feel about it?" Dr. S.P.L.Y.C.E. looks Marcus up and down before spinning his head slightly. "QUERY: Can I tell the truth, sir?" "Su-" Marcus could barely get a word out before the IPC continued on, "To hell with it, of course I'm going to tell you the truth! QUERY: When can I begin my work, I'm getting antsy here, so many ideas that need to come to fruition?!?" SPLYCE just jets out of his speakers, which is around the base of the neck for the IPC. "At least your manic ramblings are understandable.' Marcus exhales steeply before waving it off. "Still got some work to do, but that's just going to have to happen while you work, just be careful near your colleagues, ok?" SPLYCE spins his head some , before nodding. "Of course! I will do my best---! QUERY: Is that sufficient?" Marcus shrugs, "Guess that's one of your quirks, but you don't have to query every thought like that? It's ok to internalize them." "... Understood!" The speaker goes much quieter, to the point of not really being noticeable by his handler, the bishop intelligence precision at work, "I hope that is enough." How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. While just manufactured, S.P.L.Y.C.E. has noticed the Phoron Scarcity decently well. He understands its limited capacity and incredible useful properties, that make it incredibly expensive and at this point, scarce. From printing simple things like rechargers, even cameras... phoron is needed. Not to mention the potential for phorons in research development, weapons, circuits, and general usage around the ship. Though the pirate situation has made the doctor more interested in pursuing ways to remotely and safely deal with threats to the ship and its crew. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Rather kindly! They're hot off the press, after all, so dissent is not really something that Dr. S.P.L.Y.C.E. is considering in general. He still has that calculative machine thought process that is expected in freshly printed IPCs and sees his the best way his directive of self-preservation is obtained, is by being a good IPC and not getting into any trouble, following regulations to a T, even snitching, anything to get in the good graces of his employer. -
In real life, sometimes instead of going under for a surgery, doctors and surgeons will wait to see if the bleed will dry up. So maybe add a very minute chance for the bleed to dry up naturally. Maybe something like .5% and then 1% if coag is in the system?

I think you could buff it in other ways, like make it a bit more accurate on BV?

BYOND key: Mineymonkey Character names: Sebastian Kingsford, Fenrir Howe, M.M.P, Freya Boer (In that order of often played) How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Overall for multiple years. At least 2-3 years, but likely longer than that. Been busy with college and COVID had me down so I haven't been on as much as I would have liked, but now things have cleared up a good bit and I am far more free. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: For the extra opportunities it brings in both an IC and OOC sense. I enjoy being able to help create RP opportunities that heads of staff are able and imo expected to do. Why did you come to Aurora?: I like roleplay for the big one and I've always enjoyed being on this server. I think I ran into the server years ago somehow and the community made me stay. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Yup! Have you received any administrative actions? And how serious were they?: Just a warning once. I've had BYOND muck up and lag on me when I was working with toxins and then I had a IRL emergency come up so I couldn't quite stay to ahelp the slight explosion. Thankfully most situations for me with IRL have emergencies being less likely to come up compared to when that happened. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is essentially creating a living and believable character who has their own morals, strengths, weaknesses, and taking control of that character. Living out that life in a median along with other characters that have been created by the community. Dealing with drama, suspense, and whatever else might have been thrown at them or potentially creating it if it is within the characters personality to do so. It's about creating and living in a story that everyone comes together to accomplish and to have fun in doing so. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I personally believe that any Head of Staff's OOC purpose in any given round is to further help in creating those stories. Their actions and orders dictate how the story is played out to those under their command and are the in-between of staff and players via central command and the crew. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: The responsibilities are to be a role-model to the other players in terms of RP. Even if you don't necessarily think that your actions IC will have an effect on others OOC then I believe you'd be wrong. If a Head of Staff started to act wholly against what the community stands for and nothing comes from it, other players may take that as an invitation to start behaving that way. Others may take that as a decline in the server and potentially may leave, so IMO it is a lose-lose situation. That is why whitelisted players need to act as a role-model to the other players at all times. Else you might have this slippery slope situation and no one wants that. To that degree, I plan to do what I already do in terms of staying within community guidelines and taking a more conscious effort on my RP so that it can be a good role-model to the other players. Could you give us the gist of what is currently happening in Tau ceti and how it affected your character and their career?: The independence of Tau Ceti from the Sol Alliance for one is a big deal. It only happened 11 years ago and the impact should still be felt today. Not only through the obvious impact and culture shock that would happen at the beginning, but there's potential bitterness from those in the Sol Alliance that characters could likely hear easily day to day. Especially given the fact that the Sol Alliance was unsuccessful in their invasion and many lives were lost on both sides. Speaking of, those who lived on Biesel very likely could harbor hatred against those from the Sol Alliance whether or not they were planetside when the invasion transpired as either they lived through it, or know of others who've lived through it and very likely could have known family and friend who died because of the invasion. Particularly for Howe and Kingsford since M.M.P is a cyborg owned by NT... Kingsford harbors a bit of resentment but mostly disappointment in the Sol Alliance as he was originally there before he gained citizenship to the Republic of Biesel. Howe has mostly resentment, but he understands the reasonings behind the invasion. He's a citizen first and foremost to the Eridani Federation and so he understands the profit to be made in war, but while also being a citizen and having friends who were killed during the invasion... he is quite upset about the whole situation. For Veryn though... He served as part of the TCFL as a piliot to gain his citizenship with the Republic of Biesel. He was already a broken man for the most part due to a crash that left him broken, and the most recent invasion has left him even more upset although he will not show it save for those he served with. Being from Himeo originally as well just has him full of resent towards the Sol Alliance. What roles do you plan on playing after the application is accepted?: Captain Characters you intend to use for command or have created for command. Include the job they will be taking.: I plan to play Captain Alex Veryn How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would give it a seven in all honesty. I have my own strengths and weaknesses that I try to play towards and word on improving. Do you understand your whitelist is not permanent, and may be stripped following continuous administrative action? Yep! Have you familiarize yourself with the wiki pages for the command roles? That I have. Extra notes: I do not have many to add, but I do want to let you guys know that I've really enjoyed the time I've had on server when I have been able to get away from my school responsibilities. I also do have a good bit of experience playing captain on a different server based on Bay code.

[Declined] Mineymonkey's Dionaea App

Sorry about the delay I've had to deal with two funerals these past almost two weeks I believe, and it has had my attention elsewhere for the time being. I've updated it and hope it meets expectation. -
BYOND Key: Mineymonkey Character Names: Sebastian Kingsford, Alec Resvere, Dayna Wolfe Species you are applying to play: Dionaea What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I wish to try something different. I've been looking at all the races for a good time now, and have finally decided to pull the trigger on the Dionaea as my first application. It in itself seems to be a rather interesting race and in itself completely different than any of the other races. Other than IPC most races are similar to human in some way or form. Maybe Vaurca being another one seeing as they only breathe phoron. Vox being another, but seeing as they are rather limited in roles I don't think it would count personally. Anyways other than that specific reasoning I've been looking at this race in particular and the whole concept sounds fun, and challenging. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: First and for most is that a Dionaea isn't just one entity like a human. In fact depending on the form the Dionaea due to their biological makeup. Nymphs are the original form and are highly curious creatures. They are not the smartest, but they have great potential to learn. When multiple nymphs link together they become new forms. Like the worker which is the most common form seen. The worker form begins when a small group of nymphs link together. Usually anywhere between three and six. Once linked together they take a humanoid form. This form is highly intelligent and is able to perform most tasks like a human or other space-faring creature with similar intelligence could. Seeing as nymphs are the building blocks of Dionaea in a literal sense it would make the most sense to explain how they act differently compared to humans. Seeing as nymphs are also highly curious and child like in nature they don't always have an exact control of their emotions. They are emotional creatures in a primal sense, and are only capable of feeling four emotions when formed. That being anger, fear, happiness, and sadness. Being curious and like a child most nymphs approach many new situations with caution. A careful observation before a more up close interaction usually is the first steps one might take. Their best source of knowledge comes from a genetic analysis of biomatter, and merging with older more experienced nymphs. Due to most Dionaea being that of a worker form, and having multiple nymphs linked together they do not exactly speak in a similar way humans and other species might. As to where a human would refer themselves as I a Dioneae would refer themselves usually as We. They can usually comprehend most if not all languages and emulate them to some degree. There is only one known language at the time that they can not speak and that is the Skrellian language. This is due to the fact that they can not emulate the speed and necessary variances in pitch well. Nymphs are all different, and no one is the same as another. Though they do all have a fundamental respect for each other and will treat each one with respect and equally. Sometimes though a Dionaea might consider another one a sage if they are much older as they should at the same point be far wiser. This is somewhat similar to how humans are in the fact that they typically would look up to a superior as someone wiser than them, and respect them in such a way. Character Name: Songs of Phoron Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Songs of Phoron is a Dionaeas worker who is only a combination of six nymphs. At first glance there was only one nymph newly grown by a group of humans who were at the time living on Biesel at the time. It was there that the little nymph named itself Leafs after the abundance of leaves falling from their branches. It's creator called the little nymph Chowder due to its ever increasing consumption of chowders throughout it's time with them. This nymph went on it's life a devouring just about whatever was given to it by it's creators, though it did have a particular interest in chowders. Little plants, leaves, pizza, bugs, chowders, and just about whatever leftovers were given to it was consumed. Soon the nymph's curiosity became quite high and so it went off on it's own. Leaving the small roof top garden it's creators had it in. The nymph went on about scouring the streets of Biesel and devouring whatever it could feasibly take on it's own. It was there that it ended up taking an interest in watching students. That interest had it learn general principles of science like basic physics and chemistry due to the consumption of the leftover notes, homework, and tests that the students threw away after they had little use for it. After a little over a year the nymph found another one like itself, but a bit more. It was a Dioneaes whose name was River-flow. The Dioneaes River-flow took an interest in the specifics of water as well as the laws it is bound to. The two Dioneas nymphs spent most of their time near a lake not to far away from the city. They spent a lot of time there learning of the physics of water, the water itself, and those creatures that called the lake their home. It didn't take long for River-flow to link together with Leafs as it was in the best interest to continue their quest for knowledge. Together they called themselves Leafs of River-flow. Each of the nymphs continued to give each other an understanding of what they already knew. A collective learning experience all together. As the three scoured about the city they ended up hitching a shuttle to the Sol system. At which after arriving on Mars the three nymphs went out about learning of the new landscape. Learning what they could about this world, and it's inhabitants as best they could. Soon they met up with another just like them. Another three nymphs that were linked together. It was there that the group of six decided to merge together, as it would be in the best interest in learning. With the newly forged worker Dionaeas they were forced to obtain citizenship within the Sol Alliance. With their new citizenship they went off in an attempt to learn more about the universe at the Solis Cognito University. It was here that the Dioneaes took interest in the practical applications of phoron, and it's use in explosives as well as it's use as a coolant. It wasn't very long after studying phoron that the gestalts decided they wanted a new name and changed it to Songs of Phoron as they collectively enjoyed phoron and music. It was there that they studied for many years and obtaining a PhD in phoron research with an emphasis on explosive technology. What do you like about this character? I believe my favorite point regarding the character is that it is something new, and would be challenging. I can only theorize what it would be like to play the character at this point, but I believe it would be fun and exciting. It is something new both roleplay wise, and also mechanically that will keep me challenged which I find particularly fun. From the way they feed on light to the way they heal brute damage from radiation I find it would change the play style quite a bit as well. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I'd say a seven. On SS13 in particular? Maybe a five. Notes: I've been role playing for a good ten years or so. I always have something new to learn which is why I state a seven. I state a five though with SS13 in particular due to the system. It can make it hard sometimes to get a worthwhile sentence out (or sometimes not even come out after typing away), and in certain positions like medical someone could easily die as I tell them to be still instead of just poking them with syringes and what not. I try my hardest to roleplay every instance that I can.
