  1. I thought I should mention it, but I didn't want to self-promote in any way shape or form. I have no intentions on competing with Aurora, all jokes aside. Aurora holds a special place in my heart and I will always think that it is a wonderful RP community. The only reason I want to create my own server is to take it in a direction I can't influence on Aurora as I have no say in the matter. Me and my friends have bountiful ideas that we want to implement that would be too hard to push or suggest on Aurora as we'd be asking for a complete overhaul. The reason why I'd like to moderate on Aurora is because I still consider it a home, albeit a home away from home. Like I said, the only people I want to promote to is people who have previously played on our own server, and anyone who would happen to give our station a chance. Currently, we are no-where near a real build that I'd like to fully advertise. Just getting the people together. Enough about the server that I can one day hope to shape. I only wish to become a moderator on this server because I do want to make sure we can keep the balds away, per say. I do love Aurora, I love the community even though I wouldn't consider myself the most active participant in the discussions here on this forum. In a way, I just want to give back to a server that has given so much to me, including the code. I understand if you don't want to give me a chance, but I hope that the above paragraph satiated any of the fears that people might have had about my ability and bias.
  2. Basic Information Byond Account: Rebel1254 Character Name(s): Dennis Hachert, Skyler Briggs, Damian Tubbs AI Name(s): N/A Preferred means of contact: Skype/Steam/Byond/ts Age: 17 Timezone: -6 GMT or CST When are you on Aurora?: Usually weekends and after 4 PM on weekdays Experience How long have you played SS13?: For around five years How long have you played on Aurora: For around five months How much do you know about SS13 (Baystation build) game mechanics?: I've played on baystation builds for the past 3 years. I have a pretty good understanding of most of the systems Do you have any experience moderating for an SS13 server?: Yes, I was promoted to moderator and later game administrator on Exogenesis. Have you ever been banned, and if so, how long and why?: No, N/A Personality Why do you play SS13?: I like to role-play and I think SS13 has some of the most mechanic driven gameplay that I've seen in a long time. This allows extensive RP as almost everything can be interacted with. I also love how easily SS13 can be updated and changed. Why do you play on Aurora?: It's a good RP server with a good friendly community. What do moderators do?: Uphold a certain value of RP on the server by providing an environment in which RP can grow. They are the vanguards that protect the community from hostile, vile natures that disrupts the friendly environment and denatures the RP that the server has worked so hard to achieve. Their job is not to ban, but to re-educate if possible. It is not a power, but a responsibility to ensure that the community prospers and flourishes while upholding its status as a high rp server. What does it mean to be a moderator for our server?: To promote the role-playing experience and guide players to becoming better role-players to ensure that the community grows and prospers. Why do you want to be a moderator?: To help create an environment that encourages role-playing and to help the people that are misguided on what it means to role-play on the server. What qualities do you possess that would make you a good moderator?: I consider myself very tolerable to other people's beliefs yet can hold firm to rules and regulations. I try to be a liberal person and see the good in every person. I like to help people become better at what they want to accomplish. How well do you handle stress, anger, or insults?: I work in customer service so I deal with a lot of stress, anger, and insults on a daily basis. I like to think I handle it rather well as I was entrusted to a higher position in customer service when I become 18. I have also dealt with insults for a good half of my life and I try to push myself by entering stressful environments and achieving success. It can be hard to anger me especially on an impersonal level. Anything Else You Want to Add: (Do not put words here) I have decided to add words here.
  3. BYOND key: Rebel1254 Character names: Damien Tubbs, Skyler Briggs, Dennis Hachert, Judah Magor How long have you been playing on Aurora?: 2ish months Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I would like to improve the quality of security. Throughout my time as security I have noticed rather impeccable officers and other workers for security; however, I have noticed a lot of infighting within security and other undesirable traits that leads to what others would deem the force as 'shitcurity.' I hope to provide quality leadership in shaping up the security department to the best of my ability and returning glory and honor to the force. Why did you come to Aurora?: I wanted to play on a quality role playing server that provides a helpful environment that still enforces high role-playing values. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Role playing is acting out a character and his/her reactions to their job, fellow players, and environment in a realistic but fair fashion. I believe Role Playing should provide a fun yet serious environment similar to real life. If a player's character, for example, is in a stressful situation, the player should act in a stressful manner that would realistically suit the situation. Role playing should be played in some of the highest settings, the more realistic the better. Realistic means that some people are just naturally silly, they will be odd or weird, but that's how everybody is in real life. We are all special and our characters are special as well in their own ways. I don't think this should go overboard like playing the 'mary sue' and fabricating a story that seems unrealistic. People all have their special backgrounds that make their person, and I believe that roleplaying is just as much as the current character as it is their backstory. To conclude, I think roleplaying is putting yourself into the shoes of another person and understanding what they are, what they want, and what they are not. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I believe the head of staff is supposed to manage their department to the best of their ability. They are not the grunts of the department and should rarely do the jobs of their staff. They are in a sense a manager. They are to ensure the efficiency of their department and that the rules in their department is followed. This doesn't mean that a head of staff can't do the job of their staff; however, they should not preform this role if they can delegate it to their staff. In all they are to be the shining model of their department, leading by example, establishing team work, or delegating tasks to improve efficiency, a head of staff is there to better the department. A head of staff should be decisive and must mix punishment and reward without being authoritarian or being too lax. They must pay attention to their department and provide support. A head of staff must be in all extent and purposes the one who directs their department. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: A whitelisted player like a head of staff should be an example. They are to help other players by increasing their knowledge of the game, the rules, the mechanics, and all other aspects entitled to Space Station 13. They must be respectable in the sense that they command respect, not demand it. I would strive to uphold the rules of the server and constantly be ready to assist any players whether they be veterans of the server and fresh, new players. They must be patient with all other players as they are to be considered someone others can look up to. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Damien Tubbs Character age: 48 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Damien Tubbs has worked with Nanotrasen for over twenty years. He started off as a lowly cadet who had dreams and aspirations. He worked through the ranks to security officer in short time due to his friendliness and constant enthusiasm to serve Nanotrasen and her crew. While working on different facilities where ever he was needed he was seen as responsible enough to take on the role as a warden. Through constant determination to secure a promotion he won the favor of the Head of Security he worked under. His boss had favored Tubbs and saw potential in him, but warned Tubbs of the dangers and responsibilities that came from working as a head of security. Tubbs took on the challenge and had his boss teach him everything he could about becoming the new head of security on his station. It was finally time for the old head of security to retire, and Tubbs had backing from him. Nanotrasen promoted him to head of security aboard the vessel and found his job appeasing. He disliked being feared by the new recruits, but loved being able to decisively sway how his security force worked. He knew that striking fear into the crew wasn't the answer, but that if punishment would go unheeded the crew would become to liberal with committing crimes. Tubbs worked hard to perfect his system in the security force. After many hard years, it was time for the station's decommissioning. Tubbs was sad to see his force disbanded and shipped to other stations across Nanotrasen facilities. He found out he was going to be shipped to the NSS Aurora and looked forward to starting fresh and making a new team. Tubbs due to many years of lack of physical training has gained a little more weight than what he'd like and has found himself aging and more and more unable to perform the tasks and duty of a security officer. He decided that he'd make up for this flaw by training himself day and night in becoming a master marksmen and improving marks on his force when it came to evaluation. Tubbs prefers the desk rather than working the beat. When problems come his way he prefers to take a bureaucratic stance. He is loyal to security and will defend a good officer's reputation to the last word if need be, but will never tolerate a bad officer. Many officers have fallen victim to being fired due to their blatant disregard of corporate regulations and even more fallen to going through lengthy review under scrutiny due to their continued bad behavior or worse. What do you like about this character?: I relish in the fact that he is designed to be a head of staff, I picture this character as one aged through many years on the force and finally retiring to a desk job because he wanted to see his team grow no matter how he helped. I enjoy the fact that he is nice and loyal yet quick deal punishment where punishment is due. I also enjoy the fact that he will be out of shape and can't wait to look forward to making many quips on how he is too old to be running around on the beat or being ridiculed for being a 'tubby' officer. What do you dislike about this character?: I love the action of security, so his style will conflict with my play style, but I believe that will also help me focus more on the management side of the head position. I don't like putting myself at a disadvantage in terms of combat, but for the sake of RP I believe it is a choice well made. Since Tubbs will be a newer character not yet tested on Aurora, I can't say for certain what other aspects I will not like in regards to his role in this community. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff? (Please note that Head characters must be over 30, unless given special clearance): I have designed this character to be a head of staff, I have asked other people what they see in a head of staff and have observed the characteristics of the managers at my current place of employment. I would give this character a definite yes to being a head of staff. Why?: Like mentioned above, I have designed the character to fit the role. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would rate my own roleplay as good. I'm not your average DnD player that spends hours working on the perfect backstory or providing descriptions to every single action taken by my character, but I do pride myself in playing a character that would act realistically in their situations. Others may disagree and I hate rating myself, so I'll leave it at a decent-good range. Extra notes: Tubbs is a new character I designed. I hope this doesn't reflect negatively on the whitelist as any other characters I have are designed with certain aspects in mind and wouldn't fit the head of staff role. I hope you guys don't mind!
