Edited, removed the superweapons.

Alright, I'll drop the mass nuking. The plague was originally intended to be administered to a few rebel settlements to lower morale, but it replicated a few too many times because nanotech, and it didn't have any way of telling a loyalist from a rebel. Also, I love the idea of the aid corps volunteering, and would create interesting stories for sure, with a civil war setting and the punishing gravity.

Type (e.g. Planet, Faction, System):Planet Founding/Settlement Date (if applicable): The late 2200s Region of Space:Zeta Reticuli Controlled by (if not a faction):Provisional Colossus Government, Free People's Faction Other Snapshot information: -Large, watery, ferrous planet with a crushing 3.2 Gs of gravity. -Embroiled in a violent civil war. -Much of the oceans are evaporated, creating a thick, hot, misty atmosphere, especially near the coast. -A nanotech based virus wreaks the planet, causing genetic diseases in those affected, as well as causing blight in unmodified crops. Long Description:Once a shining beacon of what other interstellar colonies could only desire to be, Colossus is now a hellhole that has been embroiled in civil war for almost a century, with no signs of it slowing down. Before the war, Colossus was a large economic hub, with it and it's spaceports being frequently visited and traded at, the latter more so, as humans without proper genetic modification would be subject to unbearable discomfort and eventual injury if they were to land on the planet. Colossus produced quite a large share of diamondoids, and it's large magnetic field coupled with it's gravitational shadow allowed practical antimatter traps to be built in orbit. Industry was booming, and everything from spaceships, to mechs, to canned tea and vegetables were being pumped out in the tens, hundreds, and millions on a regular basis. Towards the end of the "Golden Age of Colossus", or the late 2300s, public order started to sink. Wage gaps were only growing higher, the planet's resources were already being overexploited, police brutality went unchecked, and the government was allegedly ordering shootings on rallies and protests. And so the Red Crusaders, later the Free People's Faction, were born. Mixing local ethno-religious appeal with the idea of creating an egalitarian paradise, the Red Crusaders began passing propaganda pamphlets across the western continent of the planet, eventually sparking mass riots, which eventually lead into the occupation of a city by Crusader forces. The city was then quickly annihilated by a massive armored invasion from governmental strike teams. However, the thousands left dead, both civilians and soldiers, were but martyrs for rebels across the planet. Organized riots quickly boiled away into violent civil war, marked by mass conscription on both sides, mass shelling, and rampant terrorism. The Colossus Government has practically collapsed in on itself, and the Free People's Faction are the Red Crusaders in legacy only, aiming at producing another planetary empire rather than the Marx-influenced state envisioned in the past. Warfare is marked by more debilitating injuries than deaths, partly due to most warfare operating with small, armored, vertical one man walking tanks, with explosive ordnance, whether it be projectile based or rocket based, being rather impractical to use due to the large gravity well, lasers being far more favored. The mechs are capacitor powered, with no explosive fuel contained. Within the last thirty years, the Provisional Government has released a nanotechnological plague on Free People's Faction territory, aiming at causing various genetic diseases and disorders, as well as infertility. This, however, quickly spread out of hand, and 65% of the planet's population is afflicted with this blight. What happens next in the war is up to speculation, with both sides considerably weakened from a lack of manpower, as a large number of previous Colossus residents have either fled the planet for Sol Alliance space or have been killed in the violent warfare. News from the planet is highly limited, as most broadcast signals are either too weak to leave the planet's atmosphere or have been snuffed out for being "Crusader propaganda." I'm terribly sorry if this is a massive wall of text, I'll edit it so that the paragraphs are more apparent. EDIT: Done. EDIT: I think I removed all traces of super weaponry.

Sorry for the late reply, but no characters at the moment. I might make someone who was born and raised there, eventually. Likely a scientist or surgeon.

BYOND Key:Thealienhasheightenedsenses Character Names:Harshal Nayar, Ramiel Saxon, Kunik Jiang, Sarnai Toqto'a, among others. How long have you been playing on Aurora: A while now, probably around 4 to 5 months. I think. Species you are applying to play:Diona. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Diona coloured. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race:They're very... Different, to say, from any other species, being comprised of dozens of nymphs to create amalgamated structures. I think this is really interesting, to be honest, having all of the individual parts of the Diona work to form a miniature noosphere. Also they have a cool naming scheme. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:Their speech can be slurred or modified interestingly, and is not as homogenous from Diona to Diona as is Tajaran to Tajaran, for example. While Tajara stress certain letters, Diona can do something funky with an entire sentence structure, whether that be talking extremely slowly, using strange wording, or speaking in cryptic, almost prophetical wordage. Also they're tree people. Who doesn't like tree people? Character Name:Gradients Of An Ageless Lunar Cyclicality Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Gradients Of An Ageless Lunar Cyclicality, who will hereby be known as Gradients for simplicity, is a clonal colony of Dionaea who was engineered in a Mendell City superhospital for studying the effects of retrovirus epidemia in Dionaea and other similar colonial organisms. Gradients was highly isolated in the early years of his life, kept in a sterile test chamber for up to two months at a time without sentient contact. For entertainment, he read books ranging from dictionaries, to biology textbooks, to epic fantasy novels. So, although aging without much social stimulation, Gradients had an enormous knowledge of both language and various trivia. At the age of ten years, Gradients was released from experimentation, where he worked for a short time as a nurse. In his adult life, Gradients has worked in numerous medical roles, ranging from cryogenics technician to general nurse on board various NanoTrasen space vessels. What's not to like about a company that provides so many employee benefits and pays so somewhat kind of adequately, after all? In his personal life, Gradients is known for his skill in cooking and cuisine, and occasionally acts as a curry vendor in downtown Mendell City. What do you like about this character? He's a source of endless, if not fairly useless trivia, and is a tree man made of smaller tree babies who cooks curry. That's pretty cool. Also, being an "artificial Diona" of sorts, could provide some interesting talk with other Diona players. How would you rate your role-playing ability?Good. I play a variety of characters with different lives and backstories, and play them fairly well, I think. Notes:No notable notes to note as being important notes.

It's for all heads? Neat. I'll edit my post really quick and add in some more tidbits of information to her backstory. -
BYOND key:Thealienhasheightenedsenses Character names: Ramiel Saxon, Kunik Jiang, Calliope Phy, to name a few that I've enjoyed playing as. How long have you been playing on Aurora?:A few months now, probably three or four. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:Mainly because there's never a Chief Engineer, which is the head I plan to mostly play, a very important head position that I feel I could adequately fill. Why did you come to Aurora?:Because I wanted a Space Station 13 server with decent roleplaying. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?:Yes. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about:Roleplaying is taking on the persona of an original character and acting as they would in a community of other roleplayers. As you are part of a community, you should respect other people, the characters they create (At least OOC respect them), and their personal beliefs and boundaries. Roleplaying should be about building a character, helping build other characters, and eventually creating a miniature narrative of sorts with other players. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?:The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is somewhat similar as the purpose of a Head IC, which would be to help coordinate and control their department or departments. Some examples could be taming a conflict happening in LOOC, or acting as support to a new player, not just to the department, but to the game in general. OOCly, the Head should be friendly, approachable, and not start major conflict. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:I believe that players who are whitelisted tend to show examples of quite developed and respectable characters, and as such, can be seen as role models of sorts to new players, or even experienced players who wish to learn from them. As such, it's the responsibility of a whitelisted player to be an acceptable guide and leader figure while out of character, for the best interests of everyone they come in contact with. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name:Ramiel Saxon Character age:31 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):Ramiel was not so much born as she was simply removed from a vat, brought into this world on April 16th, 2425 in a Luna based bioengineering company's laboratory, grown from Irish genestock and augmented with several nanotechnological cybernetic enhancements. She was adopted by an affluent Cockney couple living in an orbital colony, typically receiving whatever she asked for. Raised with little to no manners other than "Say 'please' and 'thank you'", young Ramiel often got into arguments that sometimes led into "small" fistfights. Nigh universally hated by her teachers, and distant from her adoptive parents, Ramiel went through life with no role models except for herself, until an incident involving smuggling copious amounts of an off-brand of Hyperzine brought her into contact with a local genius hardware and software hacker. Acting as a sort of father figure to her, Ramiel quickly realized she was destined for being an engineer. In her mid twenties, after seeing small amounts of local fame as a kickboxer, Saxon left her home colony on a small shuttle heading for Tau Ceti. Living in Mendell City and striking up an engineering job with NanoTrasen, first working with spacecraft flight instruments and navigation computers, Saxon went on to working as an electrician on board NanoTrasen space stations, most of them currently decommissioned. At age 31, she began work on board the NSS Aurora, where she has found a job as a maintenance engineer. Famous stunts include: The Waterslide Incident, and that time she accidentally served free cigarettes to the bar patrons while trying to fix the cigarette vendor. What do you like about this character?:She's very independent, thinks mostly logically, and can stand her own in a fight. Her genetically engineered birth allows some interesting conversation as well. What do you dislike about this character?:OOC I probably wouldn't like the fact that she ends up starting a lot of fistfights. Though, it's a character flaw that adds some flavor. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?:I mean, probably. While she can have problems managing her frustration in an acceptable manner, most of the time she's level headed and a good guide. Why?: While she can have problems managing her frustration in an acceptable manner, most of the time she's level headed and a good guide, as well as knowing quite a bit about engineering and electrical systems. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: Pretty good, I can write a fairly believable character and play them well. 8.5-9/10. Extra notes:
-
Maybe it's possible to implement a new race in the code that looks different but acts the exact same?
-
I'm not sure where I would post this, so I'm guessing it goes in general. I'm just wondering, would it be possible to have a custom chassis for an IPC character? Say, for example, if I wanted to be an IPC with a chassis that looks human? Like, for a public service android?
-
It's supposed to be HUGE. It's the been constantly in construction since the early 2090s.
-
Million sounds good.
-
Holy crap, I really messed up. The figure is supposed to be in the MILLIONS, not the billions. Even then, it'd probably only have a few hundred thousand people at most.
