BYOND Key: Epicgamer545
Character Names: John Howard, Dall Kelly
Species you are applying to play: IPC
What color do you plan on making your first alien character: N/A
Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yeah, good stuff.
Why do you wish to play this specific race?
While I would play other species, IPCs have a more vibrant and more familiar concept out of all of them. I have experience playing around with robotic characters, in other servers mostly. I always thought that robotic characters like IPCs speak louder than others, as their very existence is, made with a purpose and is man-made, instead of being organic. Role playing as a robotic character like a IPC allows me to express myself more creatively than it would as a human. It allows for more unique backstories and great concepts. I also really like the idea of how IPCs work, and how they understand emotions and feelings, or, how they barely understand it, however do so much to proceed with production rather than focus on the world and themselves. Instead of playing as a free IPC, I want to play as one who does not understand freedom.
Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human.
Humans and other species have always thought with a conscience, and their level of understanding has never been known. The mystery of the human brain is not known, and in the standard IPC unit, that is the same. Positronic Brains focus more on reason, rather than desire. Their AI is focused on perfection and statistics, rather than a normal human brain. It calculates, stores data, and organizes itself. However, many of them range in thinking. While some may be built to be slaved, some may choose to be free. Many brains may choose to act more like a human, rather some may choose to be formal and cold. They vary a lot, much like humans, just the difference is that IPCs are built for a purpose, and made for the workforce.
Character Name: IN-DIFER-NT
Please provide a short backstory for this character.
The beginning of an IPC ranges from factory to factory. However, this unit was mass made. One in million of IPC units, built in a steaming factory, with engineers and workers moderating giant, industrial arms that, stage by staged, produced the shell. First was the frame, then the wires, the parts, the limbs, the components. Then the brain, as a small delicate arm, reaches out to the lifeless body, placing it inside the IPC. This IPC wasn't made for industrial units, nor medical reasons, it was made to serve. After the paint job settles onto the shell, it was clear. This was a Bishop Accessory unit. A delicate body for the most delicate levels of service. Highly expensive, as well. But who would be willing to buy it? Turns out, it's future already had been secured. Nanotrashen, with their highly expensive budget, secured it. And, because of that, now, in the next stage of production, the unit would be labeled, chipped, and tagged across the body, personalizing it all over. And finally, then, it was given a name. Randomly generated, it used a more differnet format of naming, ending with its buyer, "-NT", the name had to be short, using a 7 character generated code. What proceeded is the name IN-DIFER-NT, and, without any second thoughts, the factory made haste to ship it to the buyer, and give it a clean slate.
Now, the unit, sitting inactive, was about to be formatted. Its first activation was in Biesel, Tau Ceti, given a maintenance check for any faults the factory may have caused. Workers noted that the unit's personality was "cold" and didn't have a trend or pattern. It's way of speaking was sometimes monotone, and was purely focusing on its own orders, rather than using reason. This was, indeed, strange. The workers theorized that the IPC's formatting session may have contributed to the abnormal... However, it seemed to preform other tasks well, so workers, not caring less, took the option to ship it further to their next job and move on with their day. IN-DIF would be put in stasis until being sought a position onboard the SCCV Horizon. As cold as they may seem, do they really have a personality? Why don't they have a personality? Will they ever get it back?
What do you like about this character?
I feel like IN-DIFER-NT has potential to have character growth to learn about other people's behavior. IN-DIFER-NT is not like other IPCs, given that they side more with their employers rather than other units like them. Also, this allows me some lee-way as I learn how IPCs act normally, giving me some time to learn.
How would you rate your role-playing ability?
I don't roleplay in the "write a bunch of flavor text as soon as I enter the room" way, how I roleplay is that I simply understand people. As John Howard, my interaction with other characters has improved overtime, and I feel good about my roleplaying skills.
The only bad thing I have on my notes is about me leaving without cryoing, but that was in an emergency and I think I can be forgiven for that.
Anything else?
