BYOND Key: WalkingTheHorse
Character Names: Gastev (Machinist Russian Futurist) Ignis Sipho (Archeologist English Nobility) Mikal Cleric (Hawaiian Inspired Bartender)
Species you are applying to play: Vaurca
What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Blue or Brown
Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Affirmative
Why do you wish to play this specific race:
In science fiction settings, I've always gravitated towards the bug inspired species. In reality, I am terrified of bugs of all forms (except bees) and actively avoid them.
However, for whatever reason the Vaucra are the epitome of what I love in sci-fi species. Species in which they breath in different air than us stinky humans is especially appealing, as it puts you into a whole new perspective in your environment. They are managing to work in an enviroment that would literally kill them if they breath in the air, yet they continue to live on for the betterment of their and our society. Its admirable and inspirational.
Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:
As I have discussed it above; the Vaurca breath in phoron and not oxygen. That alone sold me on playing them. Phoron being as rare as it is, Is absolutely required to survive. This opens multitudes of RP avenues for me to take, as what if the ship has a shortage and I am running out of my designated tank? Its endless.
Another reason I can think of is their hive system in which they are loyal to no end. Unable to move away from it and having several supsecies that change the way you play and interact with the multitude of species onboard the Horizon. The way I usually play will have to change in order to not only survive as a Vaurca but competently roleplay.
Character Name: Ra'Akaix'Mexda'Klax
Please provide a short backstory for this character
Ra'Akaix'Mexda'Klax was born and bred to be one of hundreds that would construct roads, telephone lines, sewage lines and basic infrastructure for the Hegemony. His training program, one in which all of his kin went through training video, and training video about the history and majesty of infrastructure. Being unbounded, his kin would become grow an idealistic love for infrastructure. Ra'Akaix'Mexda'Klax in particular would stick to the road and power plant building programs of his VR training. He gained much joy from the simplicity of watching people and societies grow around a concrete line through the desert.
Eventually his kin were sent aboard a Hegemony naval ship and was assigned to their engine room. There, Ra'Akaix'Mexda'Klax would befriend two Unathi that took a liking to him. They would spend time in the engineering lounge, playing cards and playing old Unathi traditional music. Tragically though, the two Unathi were assigned to the ship's hangar bay and would end up being engulfed in flames by an attacking pirate group. This had profound effects on his own psyche. He would end up missing work, screwing up on the job and spending nights trying to comprehend the emotions of loss and remorse. This would all culiminate when during another attack by pirates, Ra'Akaix'Mexda'Klax would end up saving an entire three Unathi naval men from being sucked into the void by quickly rushing into the room and grabbing all inside a pressurized hallway before it was too late. That was when Ra'Akaix'Mexda'Klax understood that he wanted to PROTECT Unathi and found a new purpose in life.
Noticed for his heroism aboard his previous assignment the SCCV Horizon invited Ra'Akaix'Mexda'Klax onto their ship in the engineering department to further the exploitation of phoron and expanding their power network.
What do you like about this character? His kindness and loyalty. Loyalty above all else is valuable to Ra'Akaix'Mexda'Klax. He sees it as the greatest thing in life. (Next to roads of course) And is pretty much a "weeb" to Unathi culture.
How would you rate your role-playing ability? Above average.
