That's one way to make it work. I just don't think we should ignore the idea of adding something because "X might happen...maybe"
-
Because I'm a Reservoir engineer that's scheduled to work for the next 14 days straight, in addition to helping my girlfriend move in to my current place, while meanwhile trying to find a new place. I'm pretty busy otherwise I'd do it Go on a more up-to-date BS-12 server. Open the character interface and select prosthetic limb, I want those additional options to be added. While retaining the current customization options (Skin/scale/etc) on the unbranded ones. Literally all I want is more customization options for prosthetic limbs, I have no idea why this is such a big deal
-
I'm not saying that you should remove the customization ability that Aurora currently has. I'm saying that more options should be added to it, with the skin/fur/scale/etc options being retained for the "Unbranded" limb. While also adding more options for those that want a prosthetic of different physical design.

The main part of this suggestion isn't "BUT SCIENTISTS" it's that having pickaxes makes no fucking sense at all. Miners NOW don't even use pickaxes.
-
This is one of the things Anisa told me I'd get told when I told her I was making these suggestions. Aurora is based on BS-12, 90% of your code is BS-12 and it's that-way for a reason. Because it's better code than other available codebases and it works better for roleplaying. I'm suggesting adding variety, options and ways for each character to look at least slightly different. Where the code comes from doesn't and shouldn't matter as long as the code meets two criteria 1. It works 2. It adds cool shit. I don't want you to be a clone of BS-12, BS-12 has gone to shit lately but they DO still have good ideas, and the good stuff they've added shouldn't be ignored because "we're different"
-
what. I'm referring to the BS-12 voidsuits, which are pretty-much their versions of our hardsuits (Because the things they call hardsuits are the computerized suits with plasma-welders, RCDs and other cool shit built in that only the CE, ERT, Syndies and Mining gets). They're essentially our engineering hardsuits, atmos hardsuit, sec hardsuits, medical hardsuits, they work as normal spacesuits too. There's -two- types of pressure maintenance on space-suits. One is gas-pressure suits which is how NASA and everyone else does it currently, and there's mechanical-pressure suits which are the clingy skin-tight suits seen in 1960's sci-fi and that one NASA experiment that never panned out into anything. So, since you're obviously going the "MUH SCIENCE" way about it, mechanical pressure suits are useless. They're EXTREMELY uncomfortable (That being one of many, many reasons that the project researching them was abandoned.) I'd imagine that the current space-suits/hardsuits are an evolution of the current gas-pressure type suits, given that people can y'know...stand to wear them for more than five minutes, that you can wear shoes/clothing below them, in addition to the fact that even with the new "Biosuit" attempt at mechanical pressure suit, that precise movements in areas with lots of tiny bones is nigh-impossible simply due to how the suit works, which is problematic to expect out of engineering and atmospherics hardsuits where that is a critical flaw

What does science have to do with this? Drills spawn on the station every round, science isn't involved at all. I use them because they can extract amazing amounts of resources with little effort beyond lugging them around.
-
Not just a normal scientist. Every single round I've played the scientists have 1. Gone SSD before making my drill 2. Been the antag so they don't give a fuck. 3. Been fucking about in xenobiology/bombmaking. I didn't say scientists were uncommon. I said that ones that you'd need to get a better tool aren't on every round.
-
I see it...every round? Short-sleeves, rolled down jumpsuits, you can see them on -every- one of these. Which are pretty common to see

My girlfriend suggested that socks/stockings be added to Skull forever and ten years ago and was flatly denied for some coding reason or another that she can't even remember, even gave him the sprites. So dunno why the dev staff wasn't okay with it then, but suddenly is now. Edit: Here have the sprites

I'm with Brage Aurora is a heavy-RP server. Meaning that IC concerns are the premier concerns for your character. Ignoring OOC information you might obtain, OOC feelings and instead deferring to how that character would respond to those situations, how that character would feel in those situations, how that character would experience those situations. Mind you, I'm not saying "Kill everyone, all the time, every single round", I'm saying that normal-seeming people have the capability to and indeed do just go on killing sprees due to their personal motivations, feelings, goals, etc. And as far as I'm concerned, as this is a HRP server that individuals who are antagonists should be capable of doing such as long as it is within their personality to do so ICly. As long as you have motivation for doing it, think it will be fun for at least a couple other people and serves a purpose. Hell yeah, go shoot some people with pixelated laser beams.

From my time on SS-13, I've mostly noted that the people who play security tend to be the people who don't want to go onto the forums, don't really get involved in the community a whole lot, and in some cases aren't into RP as much as other people can be (Not that this is a rule, just something I've observed on some other servers which might not be totally valid here). And in the servers in-which I've seen security white-lists be put-up, those people (Who can be perfectly fine sec officers, even better than the absolutely hard-RP people in some cases) just tend to not play security anymore. Another thing to note is that some people play sec casually (Myself included) meaning they don't play it a lot of the time, but still enjoy playing it occasionally when the mood suits them, and when a white-list goes up for these roles these people (Who also can just be fine sec officers) don't see the white-list as being worth the time filling out. While these people who tend to borderline abuse/be shitty cops are the people who hard-line play sec all the time instantly go for the white-list and often-enough GET that white-list that was meant to keep people like that from playing those roles. Simply because it's easy as hell to get through a white-list if you're even remotely intelligent. You just look over those white-lists that are accepted, reword their answers to a slight degree and then make your application. If questioned about how badly they've fucked up in the past they promise they're better and will do perfect jobs in the future. While staff (and most players) feels like they've done something to keep the server 'safer' from shitty-sec because of the paper-thin wall that the white-list is stands between them and 'bad sec'. It's my simple opinion that in the case of security (And heads for that matter, though that's a different issue) that white-lists don't really do anything other than discourage casual players from playing those roles, and make admins feel better because they 'can' revoke said white-list, though it is so rarely done to the point of it being nothing but a comfort for the vast majority of incidents. So no, I don't particularly find this idea to be a good one. Administrators handling it on a case-by-case basis with a stern hand as incidents pile up is probably the best solution you can have.

Yet another fairly simple suggestion. Currently miners use pickaxes which are honestly archaic and kinda break immersion for me (It's the 25th century for fuck's sake, why am I using a pickaxe?). In addition to them mining at a horrendously slow rate that is useless and can only be fixed upon 1. the discovery of a new tool (Kinda rare) or 2. an actually competent scientist showing up (Also rare).
-
Again, another simple mining-related suggestion. Just add one or two alt titles for shaft miners, my suggestion for them is "Drill Technician" though If anyone else cares to suggest any, that'd be grand. This is basically for the miner's method of mining to be identified by a glance, similar to how the station engineer's titles are sub-set specific (I.E. electrical engineer, engine technician, etc.)

Just a suggestion that'll pretty much make breath masks useless for anyone with hardsuits. Port the code from BS-12 that allows individuals in voidsuits (Not BS-12's computerized RIGS) to breath from the O2 tank they insert into their suit-slots without a mask. After-all it IS an airtight suit, why would you need a mask?
