restricted Posted May 15, 2022 Posted May 15, 2022 Just like the title says, mechanical skills. Some people dread them, folks like I love them. Discuss the pros and cons therein. I also have a brainstorm document for a possible implementation of mechanical skills should it be greenlit. To get access to edit the doc dm restricted#1337 on discord your google email, or post here if you really want to remain anonymous. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1iyTVp8qLsYQkGt2_xI0bLGeDOMf_YtN4vMI_sgbBQ2Y/edit?usp=sharing Anyways. Why I want mechanical skills. Mechanical skills would serve to enforce the rules in place for reasonable skills for characters. We would need to set a hard limit on skill points for this, but I don't think a draconian approach like that taken by other servers with mechanical skills is very fun. The goal of this implementation would ideally allow for characters to still be reasonably skilled at their hobbies or possible previous employment but restrict characters down to a reasonable standard so we do not wind up with oddly skilled people who are capable of doing literally everything. Mechanical skills as well would additionally, in my view, add actual weight to our characters. Your Security Officer is a Security Officer, someone else can't just step in and do the job proficiently. This will also allow for characters to have distinction between each other. One Engineer can construct things extremely efficiently, the other can judge the status of gas in a room just by examining it. Rather than every character being a reskinned mechanical copy paste of each other everyone will actually be its own snowflake for us to control.
