Noble Row Posted Monday at 03:18 Posted Monday at 03:18 BYOND Ckey: Noble Row Discord username: Noble Row Character names: Eliza Trin Chimaera Kaiser L-1N3 Ichor 1-4 Faraday Ja'Hadem Penri Relizos Species you are applying to play: Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character?: Red with purple accents Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: A good bit of them but good god the amount of them... Why do you wish to play this species?: Small tiny cute squid/frog people who have such a grip on the spur that they have equal footing to humans is a bit funny. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: Playing a Skrell lets you into a large and powerful culture of surveillance, conformity, and innovation, but this time incorporating psionics. Playing a Skrell means you get immersed in interacting with a culture who have existed for an incredible amount of time, seen their own apocalypse, and have developed technology unique to their physical and mental capabilities. It's a fun mix of things to interact with, and due to the trials and tribulations these small squid guys have gone through, they hold one of the more power positions in our setting. Character Application Character Name: Kall-api Suel’fune Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Growing up on Qerr'Malic on its capital city of Zuvl'Qlip, Kall-api was immersed in its engineering culture. Earning degrees in both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering and thriving in the aspiration of scientific advancement, Kall-api grew their first 77 years enthralled in the mechanics of the world around them and saw themselves as the next big inventor. Tinkering with reactors, exosuits, engines, transportation, you name it, they've studied it, and wanted to apply their own twist to make their inventions really 'wow' their community! Unfortunately... Kall-api gets ahead of themselves. Most of their inventions were a success! It was just they were a success for niche audiences, or were only hazardously successful, meaning they had a pension for breaking down or detonating outright. Despite it all, however, they were still respected by their local government for their scientific achievement, even if their peers never considered them serious competition. Boasting a wonderful SCI score of 6.38, Kall-api prides their achievements for their country. Despite it all, they hold an overall positive outlook over the Federation at large, considering them the best hope this troubled section of the galaxy has to offer, even if they aren't perfect (this imperfection stems from a personal jaded stance that the Federation doesn't fully respect Kall-api's GENIUS inventions). Their SCI score would admittedly be larger if most of their inventions were more widespread in application, and didn't have the off-chance of detonating and harming a would-be evaluator to begin with. Additionally, due to Kall-api's penchant for curiosity, bad-faith rumors have spread among some jealous competitors implying that Kall-api has an undue interest in synthetics. Which, after any official investigation, would turn up as just that. Rumors. Kall-api has investigated robotics and IPCs alike, but it was purely for an understanding them on a chassis level, with hopes that maybe the chassis might be a good target for potential Srom-Device integration for remote Skrellian usage. Kall-api has a keen interest in expanding the application in the burgeoning technology of Srom-Devices anyhow, and is always actively seeking a new frontier to apply them in. Other pressure for their SCI score comes from a sense of wanderlust, but is actively combatted that that wanderlust for the stars beyond the federation comes from an inner sense of doing the spur good because only the Federation are the ones capable of doing so, having been accepted into the Work Initiative Programme in order to prove this very ideal to the spur at large. As for the aliens beyond and within the Federation themselves, Kall-api has a healthy curiosity. Within the Federation Kall-api is happy to work with the likes of Dionae, and finds the makeup of several smaller beings to makeup a whole being an apt metaphor of the Skrell's community as a whole, especially with the aspects of the psionic wake encompassing communities to help bond Skrell closer together. Inversely however, Kall'api sees Vaurca more indifferently, if not coldly. They feel that the Vaurca as a whole are a soulless version of the Skell, where very few individuals that have any sort of a soul control masses of husks, all under a greater will. Such an idea seems incredibly constrictive to Kall'api, and they certainly don't consider themselves living in similar circumstances in the wonderfully free-thinking Nralakk Federation. Though for the aliens beyond the Federation, Kall-api respects their ability to think, do science, and enjoy life, and loves learning about how each individual culture formed and practices. They just see each of them as a little bit.. underdeveloped. Pitiable. You can't be upset with someone just because they were born in the wrong place and didn't have the same luxuries you do, especially when you live in the best country in the Spur. A similar idea that they have for Skrell born outside of Federation space. You don't get to choose where you're born. But their parents though? Those who fled? ...Why would they do that? Crazy? Criminals? Kall-api prefers not to think about it. Otherwise, Kall-api is a casual follower of Qeblak, mainly for its scientific properties complimenting their inventive mind, and often contribute their abundant misfortunes to their own personal miscalculations of their cosmic mathematics. They make these calculations so often, and so incorrectly, they often do it for even small things, like if they would enjoy a meal. They see themselves to be a good follower in any event however, contributing this assumption to their continuous studying and striving for knowledge. Additionally, Kall-api was born a psionic receiver like much of the population, but had a brief rebellious stint in their youth where they fancied themselves "different" and "misunderstood" and claimed they were a Listener. This phase was short lived, however, and they fell back in line as they grew. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? With a rise in impending economic collapse comes a call for heroes to solve it! There's many issues and atrocities that plague the spur regularly, and with the rise and fall of Phoron being a life event in which many Skrell can view the entirety of, this is an even in which the most learned of us can brace for, overcome, and come out on top! Kall'api is using the sense of impending doom to be the light of hope for their peers, and more importantly, the spur, with the aim that this downturn would be the time to put the Federation back on top and make themselves a local hero. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Working for Hephaestus they hold an intense indifference towards the Corporation. Kall-api would be happy working for any corporation within the SCC, but this is where they were put, this is where they will be. They enjoy the background, enjoy the benefits, despise the uniform colors, but oh well, they let them tinker, and tinker they shall. 2 Quote
Stripes Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Hi, Noble, thanks for applying! Your application reads well, but I would prefer if you answered them more directly and spoken straightly, as much as a light-hearted/humorous tone is fun. It's less out of distaste, and more for me to more easily glean an application's information. Kall-api is, for their age, extremely productive for someone who has only been out of their college bracket for seven years after earning both of their degrees. I would consider expanding their workaholic behavior more, or age them up to make it more reasonable - whichever would help in the direction of your character more! I'd be interested in seeing how their work ethic impacts their life, and if they've ended up becoming one of the reclusive researchers that rarely live outside of their careers. I'd also note that your character may want to be more cautious with combining srom-interfaces with anything like IPCs, as that sort of topic does hit very close to home with regards to psionically capable AI. Beyond that, if you could answer these questions: Is Kall-api an Axiori, Xiialt, or Xiori skrell? What are their thoughts on the recent historical events inside of the Nralakk Federation, beyond the phoron scarcity? What is Kall-api's relationship with their psionics like? How do they feel about the Nlom/Wake, and of the Srom itself? Quote
