StewardsCap Posted September 25 Posted September 25 BYOND Ckey: UnionGuy Discord username: unioncap Character names: Josiah Oved, Sandip Jaidev, Flint’in Flackie Species you are applying to play: Skrellian ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: The Tealish Blue that Skrell are known for. Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yep Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: First and foremost, it has nothing to do with the mechanical benefits of playing a Skrell. I honestly have very little care for game advantages unless they are for the sake of roleplaying. I want to play Skrell because of two major factors; the first is because I like Star Wars, and the second is because they are one of the most unique factions within the aurora universe. Beyond the uniquely alien appearance, they are copper blooded, can be psionic, and speak at different sound intervals-whatevers that us humans cannot comprehend. All-n-All it’s a fun experience to play a gifted and culturally whiplashed character. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: I’ve always looked at it in a fantastical perspective, the Skrell’s long lived lives that are mostly spent on education reminds me a little bit of Elves with how they’re long lifespans affect how they think. They are very self conscious and delicate with how they speak, but they are also very ambitious people who love to make something of the arts, the sciences, etc. Let’s not forget the Srom, who people are affected by this invisible mindsoup/wave dream thing and it allows the government to control its populace in a truly interesting way. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Xioshi'Qum koqun'Ouqu Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Born on Xepus-qog in 2283 from F'ex'Tra loqun’Xioshi xi-yuil and F'ex'Qa Tum’lopui, Xioshi'Qum koqun'Ouqu, or at the time only known as Qum koqun. The Quya, all Xillalt, were made up of a Qrri'Myaq, a Qraa'Myaq, a Myaq'Lak and a Qrra'Myaqi, who all lived in the city of Heshy'Qlip in Querrballek. loqun’Xioshi xi-yui, the Qrri’Myag, was a archeologist researching the nearby ruins of Jrugl’Qlip and Xyla whilst Tum’lopui the Qraa’Myag was a enthusiastical biologist who originally lived in Oibuish but followed Xioshi to settle in Heshy’Qlip as per their union. The Myaq'Lak and Qrra'Myaqi were apart of Tum’lopui’s extended Quya, the Qrra'Myaqi was a reserved and gentle Qe'Naho contrasting the more erratic Myaq'Lak, a Elderly retired navigator who was always ranting about the modern legends of Gorsh, believing them to be true. The Quya was strange and somewhat unorthodox. However, they are all excited to guide their new little project, though how that’ll go is up to the stars themselves. Now, Qum koqun had chose their F’ex’Tra whilst their Aqi’qa, Xioshi now had a deep bound and psionic connection with the egg, the Myaq'Lak envisioned Tum’lopui, their own, to be chosen for their enthusiasm but it seems that Qum koqun did not care for the Elders wishes, Tum’lopui will have to settle for Qraa’Myag. The first ten years were simple, the quya was able to achieve a nice balance and Xioshi had no trouble with his teachings, whilst Qum enjoyed the sweet comfort from their Qraa’Myag, the more elderly relatives were somewhat distant but advised the parents and gave insight when needed. In the later years, when Qum koqun was enrolled in Education courses and more lengthy dull lectures on skrell history, politics, and mannerisms they began to shift more towards their Qraa’Myag and their simple and fun activities like cooking or art, things about animals, sometimes things about religion! Tum’loqui was absolutely thrilled to see the affection of their little tadpole, Xioshi didn’t seem to mind it as long as Qum koqun kept to his studies and never went against them. When at last their scuttle schooling came to an end, the quya assembled for the Odurseer soon to begin, all anxious for what the youngling shall choose. The gifts go as follows; the Qrri'Myaq gave what appears to be some old rock, a fossil from the Era of Enlightenment, Qraa’Myag happily opted for a effigy of a Vru'qos, the Qrra'Myaqi bestowed a fashionable card with the symbol of The Hatching Egg upon Qum, and the Myaq'Lak showed up with a simple shuttle model. The fire lit, the young Qum had quite the choice to make as this would define them for the next few decades, even their whole life and yet again, the choice was split between their F’ex’Tra and F'ex'Qa, and again… they chose their F’ex’Tra. Untuk’mak started a little rocky, Tum’loqui couldn’t begin to understand why Qum chose the path of their F’ex’Tra, but ever still supportive of their little tadpole. Now taking lessons from professional counselors, the dull and lengthy courses were still instated on them but they took a keen interest in the Old history and Glorsh Era, something that their Qrri'Myaq had spouted about on occasion. The epics of the Commonwealth of Three and their War of The Tides, the Great Schism and Ranaera utterly enthralled him. When specialized modules opened up to them they took Archaeology and ancient history in a heartbeat, followed by Biology and Zoology. Qum became more devout to Qebalk as their Qrra'Myaqi, Qe'Naho Lo’Bestire-Zareq began to teach them how to perform readings and what constellations they connect with personally. Qum also attended many lectures at his local observatory, reveling in the beauty of the cosmos, its stars, and what lives in-between. Followed by Lu’Tum Ouqu, their Myaq'Lak, started talking about the wonders of flight and interstellar travel, as well as correcting Qums teachers on their ‘errors’. After a while Xioshi noticed Qum’s newfound interests and decided to have him journey with him to his work, the ruins of Jrugl’Qlip, which lay close to their city. The ruins were all but scrutinized and cataloged, sifted through and cleaned up from decades of excavation, yet it gave off this dreadful but awe inspiring atmosphere, as if a heavenly battle took place on the ground that they stood on. Xioshi didn’t have much regard for it, its hold on them dulled when working there for years upon years, but for Xioshi’Qum Koqun, it was one of the best moments of their life. Tum’lopui grew increasingly concerned about their position, no matter how vibrant their lessons were or how exciting and adventurous they seemed to be, they couldn’t nag them back up like they did decades ago and with Qum entering Uyi’vesi they became more economical support then emotional support, as Qum continued to follow in Xioshi’s footsteps with their first degree unsurprisingly being Archeology. They found incredible joy in these studies, they were constantly participating in debates and research projects but started to face some issues. Now, Xioshi'Qum koqun was still invested in their Quya, they still actively participated in Qebalk events and was very inquisitive about the religion as a whole with Qe'Naho Lo’Bestire-Zareq being more than happy to answer anything, Xioshi Xi-Yuil was Qum’s main inspiration and was often who they went to for guidance, Lu’Tum Ouqu was also an incredibly important to Qum as they taught them piloting and expanded their knowledge of the stars, for that they were incredibly grateful. The issue was, their Qraa'Myaq tried to become more than someone deeply invested, they became overbearing. Tum’lopui seemed to push Qum to spend more time with them, out of nowhere they started forcing Qum to stop the studies and come along with them, while for most the idea of going to the beach or watching the animals at sea, or even painting would be a welcoming break to all the academic work, it was not such the case for Qum. Xioshi'Qum koqun found it almost unbearable, the enthusiastical attitude that Tum’lopui shared for things Qum found interest in, who forced them to partake in such events unwillingly, had crushed their interest in Art and Biology as a whole. In retaliation Qum decided to double down and take their second degree in XenoArchaeology, something that he was already interested in but found trouble pursuing in respects to their Qraa'Myaq, who was a biologist and was promised by Qum that they would at least dabble in their field. This marked the start of Qum’s resentment towards their Qraa'Myaq, forming an ongoing Lu'Pluux. Finally, they completed their Uyi’vesi and with that gave thanks to their Quya even as tension started to brew, before setting off for the future. Xioshi'Qum koqun started their early career by working for various museums and heritage sites over the decades, maintaining the various fossils that were popular to tourists in Qerrballak. After 27 years of curator work, they sought a more fulfilling position, thus they decided to work as an archaeologist for the Federation. The new Archaeologist position required them to work far from their home, which worried Tum’lopui, who started to become suspicious of Qum’s cold and distant attitude towards them. This Attitude had only been exacerbated by the death of Myaq'Lak Lu’Tum Ouqu, who Qum was deeply connected with, changing their name to Xioshi'Qum koqun'Ouqu to show their respect and gratitude. Even worse, Xioshi'Qum koqun'Ouqu then faced trouble in their Archeology work, it became frustrating to find anything new within their field, especially with the Federations Regulation of Gorsh Heritage sites, with most sites that are not locked behind huge red-tape being entirely cataloged, the work their F'ex'Tra had done and the work that they had dreamed of was a thing of the past, and that truth just made Qum’s life even more miserable as it was. They then switched careers again, taking XenoArchaeology work on the infamous and dangerous planet Tattuqig, far from the beautiful homeworld of Qerballak or the tropical oceans of Aweiji or even the magnificent surface of Qerr’Malic. Qum had to contend with life without advanced technology and in isolation, even with the Ublureak Corps and the various militias Qum still feared and dreaded traveling into the swamps, they worried about the Fog Wardens and their thoughts on outsider skrell like them. Qum wasn’t even safe from the federation, having switched careers and showed no attempts to procreate, Qums SCS had dropped from the 6.50s to the low 5.30s which was getting lower as the state suspected them of harboring Anti-Federation sentiment. The only boon of this job seemed to be the people they often were accompanied with. Since Zeng-Hu has been researching the Planet and funding research of said planet due to the agreement set by the Federation, Qum often met and socialized with Humans in their field of work. Qum was more than happy to learn about their way of life, anything to take them away from the swamps and fog of Tattuqig. As they spoke, Qum started to take interest in Human Mannerisms, he took a liking to using Masculine pronouns because of his enjoyment in being called a “sir”, the facial styles that it entails and more importantly, it made him closer to his F'ex'Tra, because he was told that in Human culture the F'ex'Tra closely resembles the ‘father’ of a family. Nonetheless, Xioshi'Qum koqun'Ouqu had very little interest in continuing such an arduous position, they were tired of the airy swamps and wished to roam the stars and the numerous planets of the Federation and even beyond! Xioshi'Qum koqun'Ouqu took a much needed vacation on Qerr’Malic before making any major decisions on leaving, they had no prospects within the Federation and didn’t want to work for museums, or come back to their Quya as a failure, showing that they can’t be like their Qrri’Myag. They were in a very dire situation and only had a month to make up their mind, they felt hopelessly defeated and seemed to have no easy path forward. But, while they were roaming and sightseeing Toqleq'wesi they overheard something strange, two Idris employees talking about the SCC and complaining about the various business ventures it has taken within the wider Orion Arm. They became curious and decided to ask about it, and when Qum confronted both of them about their opinions they were surprised that Qum had been listening in, they gazed at them frozen in shock. One of them, a young woman with an accent reminiscent to the humans from Tattuqig, after collecting herself, tried to explain what they were going on about; “Oh! Hello uh… do you go by Sir or Ma’am o-” “I appreciate Sir” “Well then, sir, we’re just uh.. Talking about the SCC’s Flagship, the SCCV Horizon goes anywhere it wants, it’s a great place for all the thinkings minds of the Orion Arm. Nothing to worry about, probably not what you were asking eh? The Croaking Gambit isn’t far from here, just a few streets to the right and you’ll make it to the casino center, hope that answers your question, good luck sir!” How have the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. Being a Skrellian who’s mostly stayed busy with Federation, he had the luxury of not worrying about most things shy of the Phoron Scarcity, Beauchamp, and the collapse of Sol. The Phoron Scarcity is imo something that would linger in everyone's mind. Qum would have a lot of worry about the future of the federation piled onto all his personal problems. Besides outrage against Beauchamp, Qum isn’t emotionally connected to the Solarian collapse. Yes, he does find it unnerving to have such disorder, but with the ASSN reintegrating the outer territories and reenabling elections, he’s pretty relieved. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? He respects Nano Trasen and its many achievements, and he is really grateful to have the job even if he doesn’t agree with all of NT’s methods. Qum wants to make a really good impression, and keep the job down for the sake of staying away from a desk job. Besides that he genuinely looks forward to getting out of his government job into a more “flexible” Corporate one, if you could believe it. 1
Stripes Posted September 28 Posted September 28 Hi, UnionCap, thanks for your interest in a skrell whitelist! Having read through your application, I do have some pointers: I'm more than understanding that skrell terms are difficult to spell and remember, but I'd recommend you read over the terms just so for ease of reading in the future. Also, if you could use another part your character's name to rather than Qum, that'd be preferable! Beyond that, I'd like you to answer these questions: What is Xioshi'Qum's subspecies, and is he a psionic listener or receiver? Have either of these affected his relationship with psionics at all? How did Xioshi ultimately find a position within Nanotrasen? Did he enter his position through the Work Initiative Programme, or did he become employed independent of that? What are his thoughts on vaurca and diona members of the Nralakk Federation? Beyond those two, what are his thoughts on the other species within the Orion Spur?
StewardsCap Posted Sunday at 15:02 Author Posted Sunday at 15:02 (edited) Ah! Here comes the embarrassment! I do apologize for me the way I use the terms like a "Fill-in-the-blank", and rest assured "Qum" won't really come up again, not even as a nickname I hope; if that becomes the case then I will have to see how they react! "Qum" was simply just the short-term, kind of like how mathematicians like to use natural log (ln) rather than log because it's one less character. Now I'll answer these questions and hopefully clear up a few things. 6 hours ago, Stripes said: What is Xioshi'Qum's subspecies, and is he a psionic listener or receiver? Have either of these affected his relationship with psionics at all? Xillalt, my boy walks and rocks, I simply wasn't a fan of the Axiori look so that's what I meant with the fam being "All Xillalt". They're a receiver and generally follows the flow of the bubble like their compatriots, it's bad to think otherwise anyways. They don't like to think about the authoritarian implications of the psionic wake, they think it's rather natural that a state would adapt to a natural ability of a species for the sake of security towards an entire community. 6 hours ago, Stripes said: How did Xioshi ultimately find a position within Nanotrasen? Did he enter his position through the Work Initiative Programme, or did he become employed independent of that? They were an Independent Contractor on Tattuqig working within the interest of the Nralakk Federation, but there all washed out of that. They simply applied with their resume, got an interview, and went through screening before being accepted into Nanotrasen. 6 hours ago, Stripes said: What are his thoughts on vaurca and diona members of the Nralakk Federation? Beyond those two, what are his thoughts on the other species within the Orion Spur? They find them to be a much-needed relief to the worker shortage, being a secondary meant that they never had anything but dread for being placed within a lowly work position and the vaurca and diona filling in for that has only made them grateful for their existence. They don't share a lot of the bias that many skrell share to those who can't enter the srom, but they understand many of the concerns about their ability to grow, take memories and mimic personalities. They hold the vaurca to a higher degree due to their ancient history, of course a skrell in the science of history would love to learn about one of, if not, the oldest species in the spur. They do have a slight discomfort in how they operate similar to synthetics, and how they're a layer apart when it comes to governance. Before getting into the nitty gritty, they aren't particularly moved to interest for tajaran culture but still has sympathy for their plight. They are weary about Unathi, viewing them as a little more unreasonable than other species, even in regard to Ourea. This mainly stems from the disaster that was the coalition war and there dated feudalistic system of governess with all the problems those cause. Obviously, they only barely tolerate IPC's, viewing them as a danger in regard to their Myaq'Lak's stories. If they were to ever be alongside an IPC on a mission, they'd try to keep an arm's length or at least have another biological person with them just in-case. This isn't going to be a Domina situation, but you'd notice the disinterest when an IPC walks into the room. This may come as a shocker, but humans are the biggest interest to them, they're ubiquitous nature and unique formation of the sciences and individualism was probably one of the few good things they got to learn on their time in Tattuqig. In short: Diona - Values them but understands the hate Vaurca - Loves their history but isn't a fan of their nature, like most skrellple. Tajara - Sympathetic but isn't really a fan of politics, we'll see if this changes. Unathi - Religious and Communal Extremists beware; he doesn't intend to temper one in a debate and wants to respect their traditions for the sake of efficiency. IPCs - Wireback, Oilguzzler, whatever you call them, they don't like them. Humans - Our Greatest Ally, Skrells best friend. I hope that answers everything, if I messed up, I'm sure you'll let me know. Edited Sunday at 15:03 by StewardsCap
Stripes Posted Tuesday at 18:11 Posted Tuesday at 18:11 (edited) Alright, I'll be accepting your application. I'll note that you shouldn't use some of the terms listed for the IPC section written, and that (I know skrell terms aren't going to be said nearly as much in-game or in-character in general) you may wish to go over how to spell them correctly, but otherwise, well done.
