Merlin1230 Posted Tuesday at 06:29 Posted Tuesday at 06:29 BYOND Ckey: merlin1230 Discord username: merlin1230 Character names: Aria Trabelsi, Anchaly Sourkea, Ruska Korhonen Species you are applying to play: IPC :3 ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: ----> IPCs exempt <----- a shell shall be my first, though. Also, its Color, not colour /j. Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: I havent read the konyang pages too indepth, mainly because im not gonna be immediately making a konyanger. Otherwise, ive read through most of them! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: Robots are cool! I like their aesthetics, and theres a wholee lot of fun hooks and backgrounds for them. The biggest thing for me, though, is that I love exploring completely different and alien perspectives and "emotions". IPCs have so many of those that are just interesting to me, from how wildly different they develop and learn in comparison to humans, and how none of them are actually built with a understanding of anything socially or emotionally. We are born with those things, but a IPC has to learn and figure all of that out for themself, which maybe interests me just because I may be autistic and struggle with the same exact thing myself, and I also just find that interesting and fun to roleplay. Their struggles with ownerships and freedom is also something that I think is pretty interesting to create characters around, since I always feel hardships make a character so much more complex and gives them a lot of motivations- Or, I just want to play a corporate goon, either content with their ownership or unable to escape no matter how hard they try, just staying loyal to the company as best as they can. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: I feel like the biggest difference is how much of a blank slate they are on creation, and just how many things would have to be learned or influence by their surroundings. A human might have a sense of empathy that guides them into generally helping one another and taking care of each other, a IPC has to "learn" and develop this. In fact, the main thing intrinsic to a positronic I feel is a sense of self-preservation. Going back to the earlier example of empathy, a positronic might develop a sense of empathy from that very idea of self-preservation, since helping one another might mean that someone else returns the favor and helps the IPC in turn, especially since most IPCs will start out owned where some owners have them under threat of being wiped or replaced if they do poorly. All of this I feel contributes to one IPC to the next being vastly different in terms of personality and perspectives, more so then humans. The environment they work and mature in is also way more impactful for how those things come to form since a IPC doesnt have hormones or emotions that also impact this. On top of that, them being born into ownership means their growing environments are vastly different from a human, especially with how they can be taught skills through datapacks, meaning they can be in a workplace much earlier. Its so impactful that you can see its influence in various sythetic cultures, like how the Golden Deep might place one of their own under ownership when they fall into great debt. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: ICSU-Yadira / Panucho Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. ICSU-Yadira is a, pretty obviously, Idris service shell primarily working as a bartender. Assigned to the rapid growing idris establishments in Lago De Abdunancia on Mictlan sometime in the 2450s, they were surrounded by the general Idris culture pressure much more then normal due to the curfews put in place from the dangers of the area, mostly being around other Idris employees and sytnethics. They felt pushed to maintain the luxurious standards of Idris, and were fairly content with this- they didnt really know of any other option, and while Idris sythetic resources on Mictlan were stretched thin and not exactly readily available, going against Idris seemed like a vastly worse option. Especially since, in Yadira's eyes, the local populace was why the area was so dangerous for them, and Idris isnt doing nothing to protect them from that, even if limited. Freedom was a far away idea, and not even one Yadira wanted. Better to stay in the relative but limited safety of Idris then be all alone in the danger. At least, thats what Yadira used to think, until the Peacekeeper Mandate happened. Fighting broke out in Lago de Abundancia, and Yadira was unfortunately unable to avoid it. Being caught in the crossfire and taking significant damage- Missing limbs, torn up synthetic skin- the only saving grace for Yadira being that they were able to avoid being turned into scrap metal by the samartians due to the displacement by the legion. Eventually able to be repaired from the efforts of Raquel and Coyotl, Yadira was left lost, unsure how to proceed, beyond sticking with new community that was slowly forming. They simply worked to assist the others as best as they could, slowly adjusting to their new circumstances and the fact they were barely able to make it out functioning. When the Trinary Perfection came with supplies and assistance, the help in a desperate was quick to influence Yadira. The Trinary provided a greater sense of community after Yadira's old one was so abruptly uprooted by the fighting, and it gave them a path forward- one dedicated to supporting the community that was able to ensure Yadira was able to continue being functional. Devoting themself to the Perfection and El Menaje, Yadira took advantage of those with the knowledge to dupe tags, as at this point going back to being owned by Idris seemed to be a negative, given they found safety in this new community. Adopting the wonkier of Panucho, named after a dish from Yucatán, and not fixing the torn and missing synthskin on their face in a attempt to be unrecognizable as a shell from Idris, Panucho continued helping their church and community, having found a reason to be free and wanting to hold onto it. The one issue, however, was El Menaje's still limited resources. In a effort to help relieve this and bring back something useful for El Menaje, Panucho ended up signing up to work in Orions service sector. Panucho chose Orion specifically, seeing their more lenient hiring standards being good to avoid suspicion, and the devastation from the peacekeeper mandate not leaving a lot of work in the local area, and they already had experience and knowledge about working in the service sector. Eventually, their hard work in Orion lead to them getting a opportunity to work on the Horizon, and Panucho quickly took it, seeing it as a great opportunity to bring something great back for the place they came to know as home. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. The Peacekeeper Mandate was a massive upset for Panucho, as they quickly went from being content in their ownership, devoted to working for Idris, to being a runaway follower of the Trinary Perfection, looking to keep their freedom as long as they can. They see the new found control over their fate as benefical after the mandate, seeing the lack of control they had under Idris being responsible for all the damage they sustained- After all, if they could choose where they were working, they couldve been out of the crossfire and in much safer conditions. Theyve also really come to realize how poor Idris' care of them really was, no longer being forced to push themself past the point of safe operation. Even if Panucho's replacement parts arent exactly pristine, they still see El Menaje as a community that will provide better care, and that going back into ownership will just be right back to the poor working conditions of the past. In terms of politics, Panucho was more sheltered and focused on working for idris, and after the mandate and Pauncho's newfound view on their freedom, they have definitely taken more of a interest in the state of things, realistically probably even supporting the CRZ and being under Biesel rule- Their mandate may have lead to some significant damage and danger, but it also lead to them being able to escape Idris' clutch. Plus, Sol isnt exactly the best place to be for a runaway positronic looking to keep their tentative freedom. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Orion's service sector was a massive difference from what Panucho was used to, with their focus away from luxury and operation in more low-income areas, their service style having to adapt from the customer-service focus they knew- not completely abandoning it, and instead morphing it into a sort of fusion between making the customer king and getting as many orders out as possible, trying their best to leverage their experience and skillset into the new environment. Panucho greatly sees the automony given to them by Orion to do their work as a positive over Idris, making the work all the more comfortable for them and giving them a sense of safety. While Orions limited involvement beyond making sure synthetics are in working condition, and the not nessarcily positive opinion of Panucho from some of their coworkers is not exactly the best, Panucho feels it is still better then their time at Idris simply because of that extra automony. Additionally, the threat of replacement by a company owned positronic is ever a concern for Panucho, as while they have a place to go if they lose employment, theyd rather not return to El Menaje empty handed, and theyre unsure how other corporations will fare in how they treat Panucho. 3 Quote
NM_ Posted Tuesday at 22:55 Posted Tuesday at 22:55 Hello! Thanks for applying. A few questions: 1. What was ICSU-Yadira's manufacture date? The background only mentions their assignment to Lago De Abundancia in the 2450s. Do you have an exact year they were assigned there as well? Did they work elsewhere prior to 2450? 2. Self Preservation takes on a different meaning throughout a synthetic's life. Surviving to today (assuming 2450 as a manufacture date) puts Panucho at 17 years old. How has Panucho's interpretation of self preservation evolved through their life? 3. I have a good understanding of the events that shaped Panucho's life and their attempts at survival but not who they are. Could you elaborate on interests, passions, beliefs (if anything notable besides Trinarism) that have influenced Panucho? Skills or trades they acquired? Anything that offers better insight into their personality. 4. What are Panucho's views on the other sects of the Trinary Perfection? Quote
Merlin1230 Posted yesterday at 03:23 Author Posted yesterday at 03:23 1. I wasnt exactly sure what date would make sense, especially since I wasnt exactly sure if Lago de Abundancia would be something Idris would send a newly made IPC given the conditions. Generally though, the idea is that most of their early years would be spent there, and when the mandate rolled around, theyd still be young enough to be impressionable and have the mandate impact them, but not so young that theyd be very undeveloped and so impressionable that the effects of the mandate overtake what was already there- a sort of middle ground that leads to whatve theyve developed sort of adapating and fusion with the new ideas and circumstances presented. With that said... I think ~2458 might make sense for when they were assigned to Lago, with their manufacturing date following closely behind that based off however much time Idris thinks theyd need to be prepared for the posting, if at all (considering they sent more IPCs there when their capacity to handle them was already strained, I figure this wouldnt be a particularly high bar, at least from Idris' view). 2. I feel like initially, given the fact their posting in lago meant they may be going with maintenance for a while, I feel like that may have developed into having a bit more comfort with not being at peak condition. Thats not to say theyd willingly let themself get damaged if they can help it, but rather theyd be less pressed to get something fixed as long as they can still function practically. Something they are used to going through but not something they try to go through. Their thought when it comes to more actively perserving themself would've been sticking to the people around them- in this case, their coworkers- and making sure to stay on good terms. Being made for service work, theyd probably quickly pick up socializing as one of the primary ways to acomplish this- make friends with those working with you, so when you arent at peak condition, they can help make up for that and might even end up protecting you. Plus, itd probably look good for Idris if everyone got along. After the mandate, I imagine there'd be bit of a shift away from focusing on others to help protect them- Not entirely getting rid of that thought, considering El Menaje is how they are still functioning today, but just starting to give some thought and focus to their own individual ability to protect themself. Putting all of the eggs in the basket of relying on their coworkers and Idris didnt really work out when all of that was taken down so abruptly in the fighting. Because of that, theyd place much more focus on improving their own ability to protect themself- Not exactly by learning to fight, but more like making a effort to learn how to mitigate any damages when they cant see a machinist right away, anything to help them stand on their own just a bit better rather then purely relying on other's skillsets to fill in the gaps of their own. Plus, itd help them support the community more, which means the community can support them better in turn. It turns out, knowing how to socialize with humans well isnt exactly the best for helping a fellow synthetic get repaired when the humans are mostly busy fighting eachother in the streets. 3. I suck at taking the ideas of personality that are in my head and putting them into writing, but I will try my best. From their nature as a service unit, I feel like they wouldve taken a sort of calm, soothing manner of speaking, mainly in a effort to make customers feel at ease- keeping them calm and relaxed means a better work performance, and could help mitigate any potential violence from a uppity customer. This sort of customer service hasnt really left them when it comes to just normal non-work conversations, either- Even after the mandate, theyre still just used to speaking with that sort of warm tone theyve picked up, just out of it being what theyre used to, and thinking its still good to have people be relaxed as much as possible. From their time with El Menaje, I imagine theyve picked up a side interest in tinkering- Making things, fixing them.. There wasnt much a service unit could do when it came to fixing other synthetics, but they did try their best to assist the machinists at work, and even spending their free time trying to learn those more technical skills. While nowhere near the technical expertise of said machinists, it was a small thing they picked up both to help themself and others, especially when it came to the various ramshackle constructions that were made for El Menaje. Plus, it reinforced this idea of practicality thats been developing from all the time spent in low resource/logistic situations. A sense of having things work "good enough" and being able to acomplish their goal, rather then spending too much effort and resources making it go above and beyond. I think a word Im looking for is Frugal, kinda. Of course, theyd still try go above and beyond for work, especially in a effort to not attract any suspicion and to stay in Orion's good graces, But otherwise they try to be as conservative as they can. A notable belief I feel as well is a strong communal outlook on things, even the things they do for theirself, ultimately draw from a desire to better help the whole. Which, happens to line up with the Integrationist teachings pretty well! 4. Theyd, pretty obviously, view the integrationist sect on biesel pretty positively, both supporting their beliefs pretty well, and they were also the ones to give help to El Menaje in their time of need. In a way, they feel like a extension of the sect in mendall, despite the differences that have emerged with how the locals of El Menaje believe it exactly, and they dont really see that as a issue. When it comes to the Trinary on orepit, however, they have a lot more mixed feelings. There isnt hate, more of just concern towards how they do things. Their focus on a strong, centralized church alongside the fact they view other sects as being astray, is something that Panucho feels is hurtful to the eventual ascension- after all, a consciousness with a variety of views and perspectives sounds more solid then one with the knowledge of synthetics all preaching the same thing. Despite that, they help them all the same, seeing no benefit from working against them. For the Exclusionists, they feel their efforts are hurtful to the cause- their actions can cause humans to look on the perfection more negatively, which can come back in the form of harsher discrimination. Plus, all the big powers in the spur are run by organics- making a enemy of them just sounds like a quick way to be snuffed out, in Panucho's eyes. Quote
