Species you are applying to play: IPC

------------------------------

General Whitelist Requirements

What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: (IPCs exempt)

Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: yes

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.

Why do you wish to play this species?:
Well I've always loved robots since I was a little boy, so getting the chance to (role)play as one is very exciting to me. LIke many things in Aurora, the lore of IPC's are well crafted and
allow for many ways to play the species (or more accurately machines), and IPC's look so cool and come in a variaty of designs (or frames ;)). Lastly IPCs provide a uniqne role-playing experance
due to there purely logical thinking and how the EAL( encoded audio language) works.

What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?:
well the different between humans and IPCs is, IPCs can't eat! But being serously(and the fact that some IPC eat with the right upgrades), IPC act different to humans for a myriad resason,
But the biggest is their way of thinking. Positronic brains(which IPCs run on) work on pure logical consciousness rather then the mix logical-emotional human brains, this causes IPCs to
be incapable of feeling emotions like joy, anger, happyness, sadness, and fear. IPC can mimic, display, and understand to some extent to what those emotions mean, but they cannot enjoy being around someone
or go stiff from fear without a logical resasoning for doing such an action; IPC also cannot do involentary actions due to their logical resasoning like involentary expressing anger or sadness in their voice.
IPC can't regen or repair themselfs on their own, combine that with their purpose of self-perservation leads IPC players to act more carfully then their human counter parts. Speaking of purpose, the will of an IPC is
solely on fulfilling their perpose, a IPC's perpose is their life mission and can range from cleaning the whole ship to having a collection of ever book in the Orion spur; What ever it is, an IPC's life is base around it,
including their perpose of self-perservation which can lead them to abandon people if they are in danger of geting destroyed.

Character Application

Character Name: Zeppelin Theta

Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon.

Zeppelin Theta is a industral Xion base frame made by Xion Manufactoring Group (a subsidiary of Hephaestus Industries) in the year 2466 and was subsequently bought by Orion Express in a IPC bulk package.
When it came Zeppelin Theta's time to activate, it was givin it's name along with its perpose of being a janitoral role within Orion Express. Before reaching it's spot on the esteemed SCCV Horizon, Zeppelin Theta
worked on one of Orion Express' cargo depots and it made sure to keep it clean from the inside and due to Theta's EVA compatablity the outside too! But after a restructuring at the depot, Theta was moved to the SCCV
Horizon due to it's EVA capabilities and experance.

Due to Zeppelin Theta being so young, Zeppelin Theta's personality and speach is very robotic as Theta hasn't had much time to fully ingaging with organics or watch them interact with eachother.
Byond it's self-perservation perpose Theta's view independent self is underdevelopted and Theta's sees it's self as only a machine that severs it's users. This causes Theta to see Humans as above it and to be passive
to any action taken against it. Zeppelin Theata is dogmattly loyal to it's Human masters and will do anything to satisify them and it's perpose to clean the Horizon.

How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character.

Due to it's age, Zeppelin Theata has no views on major events byond the offical statments and views of the megacorporations and of the stellar Corprate Conglomerate. It has no negitive views on any human goverments and
is appathetic and naive to the way IPC are mistreated across the galaxy. The aforementioned major events have had an indereact effect on Zeppelin Theata, but it is unaware of this and the grand effects the effects
it has on the spur.

How does your character view the megacorporation they work for?

Zeppelin Theata believes that absolute loyalty to Orion Express is the only acceptable way it can act. Zeppelin Theata expresses its gradatude to Hephaestus Industries for creating it and Orion Express for giving it
perpose, and views freedom as illogical, dangourous, and against an IPCs perpose to serve humanty.

Hi!

Apologies for the wait, thanks for applying. To preface, I do appreciate your enthusiasm for IPCs - We do, however, need to touch on a few things.

General Feedback:

1. I strongly recommend that you proof read your drafts before finalizing them. Capitalization, proper spelling, and grammar will assist you greatly in the application process. There's no shame in being a new writer at all, just be sure to check your work. The formatting would benefit from being tighter together as opposed to being spaced out as it is.

2. The purpose of an IPC is not exclusively what they were built for. This is distinctive from self-preservation as a means of how they approach survival. Some start with the idea that their occupation might be their purpose, especially in restrictive origins like Megacorporation or Burzsian ownership, In others, just like organics, they eventually define - through experience and events - what they feel their purpose is. Its an exploration of their personhood and unique identity. Its a question most individuals pose to themselves and one that has no wrong answer. Self preservation, comparatively, is an interpretation of what defines survival to that IPC. This changes throughout an IPC's life and what they experience. The positronic brain wiki page, while short, covers this succinctly: https://wiki.aurorastation.org/index.php/Positronic_Brain#Self-Preservation

3. Aside from logic and reasoning, what other elements separate IPCs from humans?

Character Application Feedback:

The maximum age Zeppelin Theta can be, from being manufactured in 2466, is 2, since the current year in-game is 2468. With such a tight window, you need to be able to incorporate enough events in Zeppelin's time there - or have them work elsewhere - to develop them as a character. I would recommend you expand the timeline to include additional years and consider fleshing out Zeppelin's time prior to the horizon. Your application only tells me they worked on the Orion Express cargo depot in an nondescript location and performed their job. Applications need to be able to demonstrate a character with a personality and a degree of personhood.

  • Some questions to think about as you review this. They're intended to guide you into developing the backstory and thinking about the choices made if you plan to reapply with the same character.
    • Why would Orion Express purchase a Zion Industrial IPC for janitorial work versus a baseline frame?
      • A Xion alone starts at 200,000 credits, for context. A baseline starts as low as 40,000. Orion could utilize a baseline with EVA equipment to clean outside if the situation demanded it.
      • If you want to pursue a backstory that starts with a specific frame for a specific purpose, I recommend aligning it closer to what the frames were for. Yes, a Xion is intended for EVA activities, but cleaning the exterior of a depot is a side-note, not the main (or cost effective) purpose.
  • What is the location of Zeppelin's place of employment?
    • While it is corporate owned, where Zeppelin is physically located plays a huge role in the kind of culture, people, and events they're exposed to.
  • Why would The SCCV Horizon hire Zeppelin Theta specifically?
    • A restructuring internally from Orion would have most likely sent Zeppelin to a different Orion installation. Transferring to the flagship of the SCC with no demonstrated rationale to support it makes it dissonant to what is otherwise a standard janitorial IPC.
  • Who is Zeppelin's handler/owner?
    • This is a Megacorporate owned IPC. A handler and/or owner gives you an opportunity to have meaningful interactions with a human element that can give your IPC experiences or shape their perceptions. Its important to develop this person in the backstory in some capacity since they will continue to be prevalent when on the Horizon.
  • What are Zeppelin's interests, hobbies, passions?
    • You are creating a character that, even if underdeveloped socially, should still have formative experiences to speak towards. An IPC that has only worked and transferred to the Horizon is not acceptable for an application. They should still speak to a personality and personhood at some level.
  • What events, if any, shaped Zeppelin's perspective of self-preservation over time?
    • Good opportunity to demonstrate if this changed at all throughout the years. Adds depth to your character.
  • The question of recent events in the Orion Spur is, essentially, unanswered. Please revise this to have a demonstrable impact - directly or indirectly - to your character.
  • How Zeppelin views the Megacorporation it works for is expected in the current iteration, but is going to change depending on what revisions you make to the character. You ideally want this to be a more nuanced perspective developed by their life experiences.

Suggestions:

The biggest things I would focus on are editing for grammar/capitalization and taking into considerations the questions I posed. Writing up a timeline with bullet points for yourself to keep track of helps you put together certain events you want to write about during Zeppelin's history. Reviewing the accepted WL applications from other players is a great way to see what we look for and what elements in a backstory are needed. IPC Players both in and out of game are a wonderful resource if you want to ask questions, see how they roleplay their characters, and get their feedback on your application. You're welcome to join the lore discord and ask anything you'd like as well.

That said, I will be denying this application. You are welcome to reapply in a week. While I'm placing the minimum time at a week, I would very much encourage you to take as much time as you need to practice your writing and involve yourself in a community. While I know its always disappointing, take this as support to help you learn and grow as a writer. Good luck!
