Toomie Posted Thursday at 13:38 Posted Thursday at 13:38 (edited) BYOND Ckey: Toomie Discord username: Toomie Character names: Ivory Levi, Adam Valeas, Vanitas Sang. Species you are applying to play: Skrell ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: Since they’re a Xiialt, yellow. Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: I wish to play other Species then just humans mainly. I already have a diona whitelist and knew a bit of Skrell lore because of Diona in the Federation. Outside of that I find the connection the Skrell have with psionics very interesting and mechanically they seem fun to RP with. I think the different view on time because of their longer lived life's makes way for interesting RP topics and ways to express that part of them. And I like frogs…. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: What in my opinion are the most notable differences between them are humans are would be, things like the use of Psionics. Psionics play a large part in Skrell culture that does not overlap with those outside of it. The lack of facial expressions is also a big difference between them and humans. Of course the difference in lifespan, that causes differences in view of time and long term investments or cost for projects and tasks. And with relations to Psionics, the Srom and its effects the population is someone very different and unique to them. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Yiqri Quwarcha, born Feb. 23, 2242, aged 226 Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Yiqri was born in 2242, fifty years after the oppression of Glorsh-Omega. Their biological parents were both collaborators to the regime of Glorsh-Omega, who were on the run for those fifty years. They understood that their lives would be forfeit once caught, but when they had a child, something changed in them. They gave their child to the Federation, handing themselves over in exchange for a good life for their child, one that wouldn’t be ruined due to their parent’s crimes. This is where Yiqri started, adopted by a loving Qrii’Myaq and Qraa’Myaq. This new family had a high social credit score of 8.84 - Yiqri would grow up with two Qrra’Myaqq, raised under the beliefs of Qeblak, and be tutored in material sciences by their Qrii’Myaq. More importantly, though, the topic of their birth parents never came up, as the family tried their best to keep it hidden. There were obvious questions, like why Yiqri is a Xiialt in an Axiori family, or why they had such a vibrant skin colour compared to the muted greens of their kin. But Yiqri was still cared for like family, with the same adoration any new-born Skrell would have after the oppression of Glorsh-Omega. However, Yiqri was also raised with a deeply-rooted fear of synthetics. Their Qrii’Myaq and Qraa’Myaq both worked in efforts to redevelop and recover Aweiji’s footing, as well as Skrellian society as a whole. During their mentorship, and their studies, Yiqri was constantly pushed towards information technologies and sciences. The family hoped Yiqri would understand the importance of a personal factor in systems, and did everything in their might to steer Yiqri away from anything pertaining to artificial intelligence. Eventually, after a hundred-and-sixty years of keeping up this ploy, the can of worms opened up. Yiqri started working on robotics projects on Aweiji. The terraforming done by the Federation was a massive inspiration for Yiqri, and they wanted to develop equipment that could autonomously assist in these projects. Their family admonished this, but wouldn’t elaborate. Obviously, this caused some frustration, and the tense emotions spilled over into heated arguments. This all made Yiqri feel like an outsider, even more so than before. While they were always accepted, and their family tried really hard to include Yiqri, their differences still started dividing them. So, Yiqri made the difficult choice to leave. After sixty years of working at different employers, before settling with NanoTrasen in the last fifteen, Yiqri managed to land a contract at the SCCV Horizon, in the Research wing, working on integrated electronic systems. Their travels exposed them to many synthetic lifeforms, and they found themselves fascinated beyond belief, but Yiqri still feels like they missed the window to more deeply work with synthetics due to their family. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. The general events in the Spur don’t concern Yiqri that much, since they’re incredibly focused on their research, and they keep to themselves. The Rampancy, however, matters to Yiqri out of personal interest. They weren’t around Konyang, but the effect it’s had on the public perception of synthetics worries Yiqri. It planted some seeds of doubt about their family being right, and it’s why Yiqri isn’t actively doing work for synthetics. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Because Yiqri wanted to make something for themselves, they sought work outside of the Work Initiative Program. Zeng-Hu focuses too much on biological research, while NanoTrasen offered more opportunities for Yiqri to travel around, and work in varied spaces, without feeling pressured to perform. They don’t really have any outstanding thoughts about NT besides that, though. Edited Thursday at 17:58 by Toomie Spelling mistake.
