spacevoidagent Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 BYOND Key: spacevoidagent Total Ban Length: 7.5 Days Banning staff member's Key: Tenenza Reason of Ban: Talking about the SS in OOC again, nearly sparking a flamewar. If you did not anticapate that this would result in people getting offended by that, then evidently you did not get the meaning of the previous warning. Reason for Appeal: I don't think I should be banned for seven days, because all I did was mention that a movie about the Waffen SS is being made. It was related to the conversation, as we were talking about WWII and the German Invasion of Soviet Russia. I even said I didn't want to argue about whether the Waffen SS was evil or not, and then OOC was promptly muted. I think being banned for several days for 'Potentially starting a flame war' is unfair and that the rules were being picked too tightly.
Tenenza Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 I open myself and my actions for review by the server population, and am open to any questions specific questions regarding this. My only comments so far as this: You were given a weekban, not a 7.5 day ban. That number would be strange. You were not given a weekban for potientially starting a flamewar. You were given a weekban for doing that and ignoring a warning previously given to you regarding discussing offensive topics in OOC. The fact you continued to do so, and see nothing wrong with it, shows a disregard for the warning and staff instructions therein.

Anyway, firstly, I dont think its right to ban me for potentially starting a flamewar, because you don't ban someone for potentially breaking a rule. Secondly, I don't think simply mentioning a movie about the Waffen SS is offensive. I did heed the warning, and said directly afterwords, I don't want to argue about whether the Waffen SS are evil or not.
Tenenza Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 You did not potientially break a rule. You did break a rule. You ignored the staff warning by again bringing up the SS and then declaring that they weren't evil, which is a subjective arguement in of itself. Declaring in OOC that the SS weren't evil is going to start a debate, especially when the discussion regarding the movie had already jumped to include mentioning gas chambers. Declaring that you do not want to debate, after having already stated that the SS are not evil does not solve nor address the issue, and nor does it rectify the fact that bringing up the SS and declaring that they were not evil offends people ,and you know it offends people since you were previously warned about this.

I hardly mentioned the SS other then that they are making a movie based on them. I wasn't the one that mentioned Gas Chambers, and I said myself, I didn't want to argue about whether the SS are evil or not. I didn't say it AFTER I said the Waffen SS aren't evil, I said it BEFORE. I think that it does solve a large part of the problem, because I thought that my intentions were clear about not wanting to argue and all I wanted to do was say they are making a movie about the Waffen SS. I also think that seven days is an excessive amount considering the situation, and I believe three days would have been a more justifiable punishment.

Tenenza Posted September 3, 2015 Posted September 3, 2015 I do believe that this ban has since expired. As a result, this thread will be locked and archived.
