Qewy
BYOND Key: TechScienc Character Names: Keph Lavon; Alkah Pha-dal Species you are applying to play: Dionaea What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Dark Green. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Of course! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I like their slow moving, fierce learning, tank-ish, hivemind style and how they are truly so alien compared to the rest of the alien species that currently exist. Along with me liking the light fun it is to play a nymph and the ability to actually grow into an adult Diona would be fun. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The fact that they have a previous stage (nymph) and the fact that they're a species centered on learning and imitating others which I think would be fun to add to roleplay. Mechanically, of course, they're also pretty different. Character Name: Parasite's Survivor Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Parasite's Survivor was one of many nymphs grown by Skrellian researchers in their quest to understand the complex processes that it goes through to acquire knowledge through DNA and their learning processes, in general. As a nymph, he was rather aggressive when it came to his hunger. If it sighted a dead lifeform, it would violently jump at it (usually screech) and then proceed to devour it. It would jump at researchers to take a blood sample (yet would never go after the same research twice). And on some rare occasions it'd even attack other small lifeforms like monkeys and on even rare occasions - other nymphs. This of course, was due to observing other research wild life within Xenobio. Luckily, he'd not become some kind of ravaging hunter (or of course he would've been put down) but the laboratory staff curtailed its aggressive personality. Yet, even as an adult Diona which does not require sustenance from anything but light, it still has a seemingly unending appetite. What it learned in its nymph was not just from other wildlife, and if anything it was the least of its influences. It managed to learn much from watching Skrellian researchers becoming quite the proficient researcher itself, mainly in the area of Xenobiology. And considering how often in its earliest of years it might've had to be picked up by security and locked up, it also learned much of their practices which along with its hunter-like attitude also made it quite proficient as an officer when permitted. What do you like about this character? Well, I mostly like the idea of playing a Diona that is somewhat aggressive in nature (or at least to non-crewmembers) and has a learned hunger. I see a lot of Diona playing slow Diona which are seemingly peaceful until attacked and it commonly makes me ask "Where did this one learn to act violently?". As from my understand, Diona aren't even meant to understand the concept of self-preservation unless learned from others. Another thing I also don't see from Diona is clear learned attitudes. Like what would be Parasite's Survivor unending hunger. And also, how difficult it can be for the crew to manage a small nymph that is simply trying to grow and learn new habits (as one of the reasons I'd also like to be whitelisted is so I can play a nymph more regularly and managed to grow at the worst moments for those crewmembers that like trying to chase down nymphs.) How would you rate your role-playing ability? Fairly decent, I guess? I have difficulty rating my own Roleplay ability since I know I'm at least decent and saying any more would feel like unwarranted bragging. Uh, the best way I can put it is Keph being a mute I have a fairly good habit of using /me which I feel is underused by some. Notes: The Byond Key has no last 'e'. In the past (not on this server), I've had admins mistakenly think I had forgotten an 'e' on the Byond Key. Link to comment
Killerhurtz
Hello hello! I've seen your post, and, well... While I do personally enjoy the idea of a nymph which grew up with a slime, it brings up a lot of problems involving the interactions with crew - especially with the new/upcoming changes (I know SOME of the changes went through, but I'm not sure if the whole changelist was passed). A dionaea is already a dangerous creature - capable of surviving much. How, exactly, would this learned hunger manifest itself? Because remember - as much as I'd like to have this play out, trouble and all, I can't. My main priority is to protect the OTHER players from the wrath that are Dionaea. Link to comment

Like I said, watching other "wild" life in Xenobio would be a minority of its influence. Watching and working with the actual Xenobiologists and Security would've taken much more interest (as he would've learned the typical reactions of whatever creatures the Skrellian Xenobiologists were otherwise studying). So it wouldn't be keen at all in harming crew nor eating their corpses. Now, for non-crew like monkeys and food? It might manifest itself quite a bit. But someone telling them to quit it might alone be enough to make them put down the last donut in that box. I don't think it would've ever have been permitted to leave the laboratory alive if the conclusion that it was a risk to others had been reached. EDIT: I would like to add that the only circumstance I can currently think of them devouring a crewmember is if it was the antagonist. So, for the rest of the time really only non-crew and the Chef's delicious meals would be at risk of his unending hunger. Link to comment
Killerhurtz
I discussed this with a few people, and it's entirely fair. Now, normally by now I'd pass judgement - but I forgot to mention, I'd like for people to vouch for you a bit. So I give you until... Are you okay with getting a judgement Monday? It'd give you the whole weekend to post, once per round, a link to this app in OOC in-game for people to post opinions on you. If you'd want an earlier judgement that's fine too. Link to comment

Qewy
Sadly, I didn't manage to get anyone to vouch for me as I don't really communicate much on OOC. Anyhow, ready for that judgement! Link to comment
