[Accepted] Tekoro's Dionaea 2nd Whitelist Application

Recommended Posts

BYOND Key: Tekoro

Character Names: Alden Ringer, Gregory Weinstein, Coly Asher, Jacob Pootlepot, Phoenix Hall, ASTRO-F (and all previous Astro versions)

Species you are applying to play: Dionaea

What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):

Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes.

Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question

Why do you wish to play this specific race:

I find the Dionaea species to be completely unique, having characteristics and lore completely different from any other species, which makes the Dionaea my preferred species in terms of lore and also roleplay-style.

Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:

A nymph is a simple being that might be considered to have the same intellect of a baby, but when multiple ones form together into a gestalt they become a superintelligent mass! Which is what makes Dionaea really unique, they work in unison to accomplish the most complex tasks, complex even for the above-average human being, while managing to never run out of energy so maintaining a constant work routine. [unless placed in an environment which doesn't permits them to, like dark places]

Character Name: Pulsar, Kind Friend

Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs

- Transmission Logs

// Transmission logs [23/December/2458 | 17:34]:

// CRD Rook Keller: NSS Antlia, we're still awaiting the reports on that xenobiological life form you updated us about. Did you recognize it's provenience and species?

// RD Aria Whilkers: No, Sir.. it appears.. it appears it locked itself inside the main Xenobiological wing, which contains.. *soft sigh* it contains most of the testing subjects, Sir.

// CRD Rook Keller: Lock itself in the.. what are we talking about here, Aria? You're telling me this.. unknown lifeform.. managed to gain access and lock you out from the main wing? Please explain, or is this a joke?

// RD Aria Whilkers: It is completely draining power, chief. While we talk our engineering and security team are getting ready to intervene.

// CRD Rook Keller: Draining power? Interesting. I have to attend a meeting, but I want an update sitting in my console for when I'm back.

// Transmission logs [23/December/2458 | 17:45] terminated.

// Transmission logs [23/December/2458 | 20:22]:

// RD Aria Whilkers: This is Aria Whilkers, our engineering team managed to open a way into the main Xenobiological wing, but all of the specimen are currently outside their pens, it is unknown if it was because of the power shortage due to the unknown intruder, or if the intruder itself set them free. Await further updates.

// RD Aria Whilkers: Alright, so.. this.. thing, turns out it's a cluster of nymphs, a Dionaea, gestalt. We found it inside one of the pens, singing to the subjects. I-.. *sighs*we don't know what do.. it did put in danger the station but.. it seems its intentions aren't hostile. Awaiting.. instructions from you, chief.

// Transmission logs [23/December/2458 | 20:33] terminated.

// Transmission logs [23/December/2458 | 21:06] :

// CRD Rook Keller: A Dionaea, uh? I took in account that possibility, is it known how the Dionaea made its way aboard the station?

// CRD Rook Keller: Aria? Are you online? You still haven't answered. I'm awaiting a response.

// RD Aria Whilkers: S-Sorry, Chief. Me and the xenobiology team were looking at the Dionaea.. scanning it and.. yes it isn't hostile for sure.. it keeps making this sound over and over while near the other specimen.. I'll send you an audio recording, maybe you'll understand better.

// Audio log succesfully delivered after 0.3seconds of upload time:

// CRD Rook Keller: Reminds me a lot like the sounds a pulsar could make, and the various symphonies they produce. Are you sure the Dionaea is the one making this sound? They are known to make pleasant sounds when communicating but.. replicating the sound of a pulsar? That's fascinating.

// RD Aria Whilkers: We're sure it was the Dionaea making those sounds, chief. We got ahold of the subject, instructions?

// CRD Rook Keller: Place it on a shuttle I'll be making sure to send over, I want to research this Dionaea myself, how it got aboard the NSS Antlia and why it wanted to free the specimen aboard it, and make a detailed status report to send our CCIA.

// RD Aria Whilkers: Will do, Chief.

// Transmission logs [23/December/2458 | 22:57] terminated.

- Situation Report n°237 | NSS Aslia

SITUATION REPORT, 237 | Research Director Aria Whilkers | 24/December/2458 | 09:34

At hours 15:37 a power shortage took place which caused to lockdown the main wing of xenobiology with the main test subjects. It was unknown the real cause of this, but only later we found out that the Dionaea managed to tamper with the department's APCs, locking out most of the xenobiology crew, that at the time was moving subjects to the secondary wing, thus leaving it unguarded. We don't know where our security team went, that needs to be resolved since we could've lost our most precious test subjects if the Dionaea was hostile. At 21:58 our engineering team managed to dismantle the airlock which wouldn't open at all, even when forced, and once we entered the room we saw most of our test subjects out of their pen. 46% of these test subjects are confirmed hostile, but in that situation they weren't.

It's unknown why and how the Dionaea managed to calm the various specimen, that's why we're sending it over to you guys for research.

Fortunately no test subjects were harmed, nor the crew was.

- Situation Report n°1732 | Rook Keller

SITUATION REPORT°1732 | Chief Research Director Rook Keller | 27/April/2459 | 19:24

The Dionaea was finally delivered to my team of professionals to study it, Dionaea are mostly known troughout the scientific stations and among the Skrell, but me and the team really want to understand HOW it managed to pacify most of the NSS Aslia xenobiological species, which were in part hostile. It doesn't seem to resisting, it actually is very collaborative as long.. we keep it near our private xenobiological pen, it actually keeps going there everytime we try to move it away, and we're not able to stop it.. so we're actually just researching it near the other subjects. Further details will be filled, and once the report is filled, it will be sent.

Alright, it's a standard dionaea in all of its mass, the specifics are: It's made of 9 visible nymphs and 6 that are hiding underneath the others, it's mostly that, a compound of 15 nymphs like you'd think it be.. so nothing too strange there. We're saving sound samples for whenever it starts.. singing.

As it was said, subject keeps hanging out with the other test subjects and pacifying them, it's actually really helpful, now we can study those ones too in peace and without the danger. It's actually really useful, it stands there singing and all, but it's helping us a lot in the research.

Today, 24 February 2459, it still stands here, feeding off the light and singing to the subjects, but something different happened. One of its appendages decided to pick up the mutated food we give the subjects for testing and started feeding it to them, usually it's a pain because they never want to eat it because it smells like a burnt shoe, but it managed to do it. This is truly an amazing discovery, if this is what this Dionaea can do, there are endless possibilities to how our researches can go from now on. We've already established future trips on various planets to research the local fauna, together with the Dionaea. Now, we're focusing on making it communicate with us, replicating the Skrell's practices, to get a better understanding of what this Dionaea wants.

Day 19, April, 2459. We managed to get the dionaea to learn our language. It was really difficult and took a lot of our time, apparently we needed to administer blood samples to each of the nymphs, we wanted to be sure, but trying to get to the nymphs hidden behind the others was the hardest part, the operation's report has already been sent over to you today.

Day 21, April 2459. We've decided to instruct at our best the Dionaea, it seems to already have processed all of our practices and how we treat the test subjects. When put to test, it understood and worked like a superintelligent being, fast with its thoughts.

Day 27, April 2459. The various test and indoctrination tests were.. succesful to say the least. This Dionaea is severely skilled with handling various inferior species. It's like if it knew them since they were newborns, but in just a matter of hours it managed to create a bond with them that we, in years and years of work, never created.

Day 28, April 2459. We're.. deciding to let the Dionaea go and practice on one of our research facilities that really needs xenobiology staff.. we will recover it when the experimental excursions will be decided, we really want to see it acting with wild fauna.. for now, we decided to send it to the NSS Exodus. It's one of your best research facilities, it has a xenobiology laboratory which is almost unused, so we thought that it might be the best to start with since only slimes are studied there and it could speed up slime research by a lot.

Day 29, April 2459. Alright, tomorrow's the big day, we're placing the Dionaea on a shuttle towards the NSS Exodus with the instruction and paperwork already filled, we needed to issue also a name, we thought about it the whole day yesterday.. I remembered how what made us really curious was the fact that it sang like a pulsar and the most important fact about it is how it managed to make friends quickly.. it's not the best name, but it comes from our hearts and the heart of the research team, we decided to call it Pulsar, Kind Friend because it was a friend to us, and to all of the subjects here. We hope when it leaves, the situation will stay the same, with the test subjects not changing attitude towards us. Hopefully it will find new friends and make discoveries on the Exodus, for now all we can do is say goodbye to it until we meet again.

What do you like about this character?

It's unique, I made it and took me some time to make which I'm proud of. I like how it appeared from nowhere and created a situation that could be considered as dangerous, but later on it's discovered that it is actually not hostile but probably the most friendly that it could ever be. I want Pulsar to be a lover of all living species, with no exception, I really want to try and roleplay as a subject that won't hurt anything under any circumstance, at the cost of its life, instead it will try to pacify it with its singing!

How would you rate your role-playing ability?

Not my judgement, as I said it's up to others that's why I try to get as much feedback as possible from the server's players.

[Note: I hope the backstory isn't to long and if there are discrepancies with the lore, please do tell me! I'm open to make minor changes, the story will remain that though, but if names and such needs to change please do tell me.]

Hello hello, and sorry that I'm late!

This application is a lot better. I'll be back Tuesday evening, the 16th, for a judgement. Meanwhile, I think you're already aware but just for clarity : post a link to this app once per round in OOC to get the other players to weigh in.

Happy trails!
