KingWestie
BYOND Key: KingWestie Character Names: Jimmy Howard Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): Moss green. (RGB- 138, 154, 91) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: In video games, I usually tend to prefer playing races that have animalistic features (like the Khajiits and Argonians from the Elder Scrolls games). I generally prefer reptilian races as well, which drew me towards the Unathi specifically, as apposed to the Tajara. After reading the lore page for the Unathi, I found certain events from their lore (like the Contact War) pretty interesting and wondered how Unathi characters might react, especially if they grew up during these events. The differences that their society has when compared to human society was also an interesting part of their lore, as it made it seem like their interactions with humans could be affected by something as simple as a human using a first name with a Unathi they didn't know well. The differences between the two Unathi planets, as well as their struggles with the wasteland and , are also interesting factors that open up a lot of options for the backstories of characters I create. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Role-playing as a Unathi as opposed to a Human would be unique because of the very different societies between the two species (such as the Hegemony). The fact that the Unathi society is fixated on honour would also be a very big difference, as a Unathi may be less willing to betray their beliefs or their friends because of how it would cause them dishonour. The fact that using a Unathi's first name when they aren't close enough to you, as well as touching them when you either haven't been introduce or are not friends, can be deeply offensive or disrespectful is also an interesting part of the Unathi, as anyone unaware of Unathi traditions could easily offend a Unathi and lose their trust or ruin their chances of befriending the Unathi. The differences between Moghes and Ouere would also allow for differences between multiple Unathi characters, such as a Unathi being more willing to accept equality if they came from Ouere or excessively defending or slandering the Izweski Hegemony. The physical differences between Unathi and Humans, such as a Unathi's claws, the fact that Unathi are carnivores, and the fact that Unathi are cold-blooded would make for differences in both role-play and gameplay when compared to humans. This can also affect a Unathi's views on certain things that other people do (such as things like vegetarianism, or living in a society that does not value honour as much as the Unathi do). Character Name: Ulasei Krekazi Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs For most of his life, Ulasei lived on Ouere, in the capital city of New Skalamar. Ulasei was an only child, and his family never really suffered much throughout his life. Ulasei never really stood out from other children throughout his childhood and was never bullied. There was only one large thing about him that he felt set him apart from his peers. He could never understand 'honour', or why Unathi culture seemed so fascinated by it. He never held this against the Unathi, and just felt that it was up to someone to find something to feel 'honourable' about until they would truly understand honour. This ended up being a large part of his reason for leaving Ouere on his 24th birthday, as he felt that to discover his honour, he needed to travel around the known universe until he either felt like he had found his honour and could return home, or he found a reason to begin living on one of the planets he stopped on (such as if he fell in love). All throughout his life, Ulasei had a fascination with machines and robots. Whilst other kids played sports, practiced instruments, or playfully fought each other, Ulasei would fiddle with cheap contraptions and robotic toys to try and figure the components of them out. During his teenage years, he would build simple machines out of scrap parts and earn a small amount of money through fixing machines for his family and neighbours. He went to a university in New Skalamar, where he gained a diploma in robotics. The second reason why Ulasei left Ouere was because of how he felt like the rest of the civilised universe held more options for his dream career in robotics than New Skalamar, or possibly all of Ouere or Moghes. This led him to eventually stumble upon the knowledge that Nanotrasen had a spot open for hiring a new roboticist for their NSS Aurora research station. Ulasei grew up whilst the Contact War was raging on on Moghes. He was always hearing news reports about the death tolls after attacks by either the Izweski Hegemony, or the Traditionalist Coalition. This caused him to lose a small amount of respect for the Unathi of Moghes. Personality-wise, Ulasei is a friendly and calm man. He will try his best to get on with people but can sometimes be anxious around new people, especially if he has to work with them. Unlike how most Unathi will be angered or offended if someone were to use their first name or to touch them when they were not close enough to the person, Ulasei will usually become anxious if someone uses his first name when he is not comfortable with it, and he will become frightened if he is touched when he is not comfortable with it. This means that peoples intentions can become misconstrued, as what seems to most humans to be a friendly pat on the back would instead be seen as a potential attack or threat. He is also easily startled, and has occasionally become startled enough for him to jump a small distance into the air. In a standard 'fight or flight' situation, he will typically pick flight. Despite this, if he was with several other people who needed to escape from a threat, he would willingly choose to stay and fight to buy them time. This does not mean he will put up much of a fight, however. In 2457, Ulasei is 26 years old. What do you like about this character? Ulasei seems like a fun character to play, as he has various goals in his life, as well as problems in his character. This makes him feel more realistic to me, as I intend to play him as a good-natured guy who always tries to get along with people and tries to do his best, whilst probably failing to do much as well as he hopes to. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I don't think I am amazing at role-playing, but hope to get better through practice. I have attempted role-playing numerous times on forums and such, but have usually ended up running into brick walls that have resulted in me figuring out that forum-based role-playing isn't great for me at the moment. I feel like my attempts at role-playing in Space Station 13 (specifically on the Aurora Station server) have gone a lot better, as most of the problems I had with role-playing on forums don't translate into SS13. Guest Marlon Phoenix
Hello! Sorry for the delay. You show an understanding of the Unathi race and have created what seems like a usual anxious Unathi roboticist, but one which is still trying to get a grip on the 'honor' side of things. Application accepted! Link to comment
