Toska
BYOND Key: Toska Character Names: Pip Baer (Roboticist), Toska Bellegarde (Gardener), Caitlin Pearsall (Chemist), Chlo Qon'ue (Xenobiologist). Species you are applying to play: Unathi. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): A shade of tan or red. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: After reading their lore in more depth I've really come to enjoy their stubbornness and values. The idea of creating a character that is influenced by their upbringing so strongly is a neat concept and having them respond to situations based on their code of honor sounds like it'd make for very interesting situations. I've also been a fan of reptiles in general, especially being able to play reptilian species in games, and I was delighted to see that they have mannerisms based on (or at least similar to) real life reptiles. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: One of the more immediately noticeable differences is that Unathi have different body language, such as tail-thumping and air sampling, and interact with others differently. Humans are much more prone to handshakes or even hugs, something Unathi are uncomfortable with (before verbal introductions at least) or outright avoid (in the case of hugging). Unathi address others in a different fashion than most Humans, who will call others by their first name shortly after meeting. Unathi consider this offensive and instead wait for consent (usually after becoming close with whomever). Unathi have a deep rooted code of honor that Humans generally don't, which greatly influences their actions. Where a human would be ok with, say, acting underhandedly in some way, an Unathi's honor would influence them into behaving quite differently for fear of bringing shame to their clan's name. Character Name: Sioz Leksaruk Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Sioz was young when the Contact war began, having only experienced his second hatchday a month prior. His father, Seho, initially worked in one of the local factories in Res'karum, but with the introduction of Human and Skrell companies to Moghes he quickly took to working manual labor with them instead. It was something their clan's elders looked at with disdain. Like many other Unathi, the elders were quickly growing restless due to the "intrusion" of these newcomers. This was something that went over Sioz’s head. Though he was being taught the Unathi code of honour and traditions, he never could grasp what so many of his kinsman had against the visitors. Sioz was in the middle of playing with the other younglings when the Traditionalist Coalition invaded the eastern cities. Many of his clan members joined the Coalition when they finally reached Res'karum and his father was expected to do the same. He was afraid and confused, unaware of the reason for the shouting and violence breaking out throughout their city. His father, fearing the worst for his family, did what he could through the company he worked for to secure a seat for him and his mother aboard one of the many evac ships leaving Moghes. It would be the last time they would see each other as the shuttle doors closed and he and his mother, Uru, took off for Ouerea. Most of Sioz’s early memories are that of living in the refugee slums of Yiz. He spent much time in daycares, and then schools when he grew of age, while his mother worked to keep them housed and fed. Luckily for them Ouerea, then lead by the Humans and Skrell, held more opportunities for all Unathi, women included. Sioz was discontent with his life growing up, having lived in poverty despite his mother's best efforts. At 11 he finally began to truly grasp the implications and casualties of the war and it instilled in him a deep hatred for the Coalition. They had taken his father and now they had mortally wounded his home planet. His anger turned into resolve, however, as he decided to give in to his ever-growing wanderlust and leave it all behind. He couldn’t afford extensive schooling and instead pursued a basic college education in New Skalamar, working odd jobs to pay for the courses and what housing he could afford. By the age of 21 he began to search for a job within NanoTransen itself in hopes of going off-planet. He wasn’t particularly picky about the positions he was applying to and in March of 2457 he was picked up as part of their mining team, only a few months before the Izweski Naval attacks on a NanoTransen ship and the subsequent withdrawal of the company from Uueoa-Esa. What do you like about this character? Sioz is a rather brooding character, though that’s not to say he isn’t friendly, and it’s a concept I enjoy quite a bit. Growing up on Ouerea has left him a little more laid back than typical Moghes Unathi when it comes to social faux pas and I think this patient understanding would make him an interesting character to play out. I also like that instead of letting his anger fester and manifest in negative ways he’s turned it into motivation to get away from the things that upset him so. Like most Unathi he is a stubborn sod, knowing what he wants and chasing after it. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I think I’m a pretty decent roleplayer, perhaps 7-8/10, though there is always room for improvement. Notes: Always looking for feedback, especially if it means I get a better understanding of the lore! I did what I could cross checking what happened when and keeping facts straight. If I’ve got anything wrong, or wasn’t clear enough on it, feel free to let me know! Link to comment

Guest Marlon Phoenix
Hello! I'm sorry for the delay in your application. You show a good knowledge and understanding of Unathi lore and you have an interesting character concept. A backstory of struggle and tragedy but the character isn't wallowing in self-pity over it. Very solid unathi way of taking things! Application accepted. Link to comment
