  1. BYOND key: Sovieteer Character names: John MacGregor, Karl Broskov How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I'd say I've been on for about maybe 6 months? I haven't really counted and I've been off and on, but mostly on most recently. Trying to get back into the game. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: Well I've always aspired to be a head of staff, mostly in the Security division. I've seen what the Head of Security is capable of doing and I imagine me using my skills in such a position to help better the department and help everyone have a good time. Heads of Staff are rather vacant as well, as I only see around two or maybe three online per shift. Why did you come to Aurora?: I came to Aurora out of curiousity one day. I am from Unbound Travels originally, a medium to high RP server back in the day. It was related to the BestRP line, but inevitably collapsed on itself after staff corruption and management failure. Having no place else to go, I traveled mostly to Colonial Marines and Hippie station in search of roleplay, but only found a medium amount in Colonial. Finding Aurora, I observed the strictness of the staff and the formal roleplay the players kept ICly. It made me rather happy and intrigued, since no other server at that time really had that. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: I have indeed read the BS12 wiki on the head role I plan on playing. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is what the name says, playing a role of something or someone. In terms of SS13, you play the role of a crew member with a given occupation on a space station, and must play that role realistically. Simulation of pain, reasonable mentality, and display of effectiveness at your occupation. If you're hit in game and your character can still move, you're expected to take damage and simulate your feeling of pain, instead of just powergaming through it and doing whatever you want. Roleplay should be about having fun and still doing your job or part on the station - ICly and OOCly. You are there to have fun, and you should make it fun for others as well. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: The OOC purpose of a Head of Staff would be to set a standard. Heads of Staff got where they have gotten by proving excellence and proving themselves worthy of the job title. They are also the go-to person for advice and guiding through job training and for when the situation becomes too tough and they must rely on the elders of the station to make the decision. They are the voice of the departments. They are also a thing to looking forward to either becoming, or using to an antagonist's advantage to spice up the round and have a little fun, so long as they believe it's fun as well. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: I believe the responsibilities of white-listed players - in terms of OOC - are to set a standard for other players. They show that RPing with an excellent standard, abiding by the rules, and doing what you're best at can get you to higher places, and even some benefits. For me to strive to uphold those responsibilities would be to just roleplay to the best of my ability, follow the rules, and simply don't mess up. And if the time comes where I do happen to mess up, I shall take full responsibility for my actions and face the consequences, showing that responsibility is something every white-listed player must have. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: John MacGregor Character age: 33 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): John 'Scotty' MacGregor was born April 23, 2425 somewhere in the remnants of Scotland. The current location is currently unknown but it was apparently a place known for lavender fields, since he carries a lot of lavender smelling letters from parents back home. John was raised on a farm and was brought up like any old-fashioned kid in the rural communities of Scotland would be - taught to work hard for what you want and don't take anything for granted. His parents were old fashioned and didn't use much technology. Some relics they had were dating over two hundred years old, such as one which was an iPad. After years of drought, the family sent John on his way to go work for a big company, to hopefully not let him be burdened by his place in a poor family. As John searched for jobs, he soon stumbled across a job at a big company in the largest city in his province, being a security guard for the corporate offices of Nanotrasen. Throughout the years, he showed extreme loyalty, being interested in the company's history and wondering what they were doing for the world and themselves. When he heard of a space station far from Earth, he wanted to try to be a part of something bigger, and requested to be sent by his superiors. Today, being a 33 year old man with an up-beat vibe, heavy Scottish accent, and the drive to do his best, he serves on one of the best research stations Nanotrasen has to offer, doing the thing he loves the most - being part of Security and helping keep people safe. What do you like about this character?: This character has a neat little backstory, originating from Scotland and having a farming background. Over the years, he overcame his obstacles and it landed him in a fine position with the best pay he could imagine with Nanotrasen, on the Aurora. He does his duty as best as he can and tries to let everyone have a good time, permitting it's within regulations and law standards. What do you dislike about this character?: Sometimes, he tends to have a temper. Mostly when dealing with incompetency. He can deal with it if he's patient enough, but physical contact usually sends him over the edge. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: His drive and his loyalty to Nanotrasen, for one. He wants to do nothing more than serve to the best of his ability. Becoming a leader would allow him to earn a great amount of respect for him and his family, as well as help him make the station a better place and serve with distinction. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would rate it around an 8/10. Extra notes: I've done this before on Unbound Travels. It's a challenge sometimes, but the job wouldn't be hard or any fun if there wasn't, right? Also, my internet maybe an issue some days, depending on the whether and financial situation.
  2. Alright, so if anyone truly wants to know why John MacGregor (me) randomly passes out all the time and sometimes doesn't come back for the duration of a round? It's due to my internet. Let me explain. I live in the backwoods of a town called Delmar, and unfortunately my street doesn't get served Comcast or GoogleFiber, so we had to rely on satellite internet in the past. Now, we use our phones as internet. How? Well, we use USB data cables to plug into our computers and our phones, tethering both to each other. THen we use an app called PDANet for Android to modify the connection between the phone and the mobile carrier, so the computer essentially uses the data as internet. And my internet has been going in and out recently due to storms and my data plan almost running out, or about to get there. Unfortunately, when it does go out, I'll sometimes be on IMVU (my chat site game thing) or on BYOND playing Aurora. I don't want it to come off as me slacking off or anything, but that's what's been going on.
