  1. Sorry for the wait, gave it a couple days while I contacted BYOND support. Good news is they can vouch for me not being the banned individual, bad news is they are seeing two computers as well. Anyway, just checked and I can indeed log in, so thanks! Just hope we can continue to work on separating me from Mr. Multiban. On that note, here's the response from support in full: You'll probably want to refer those admins to me via the support form. I can vouch for your story here. What appears to have happened is that one of your computers has a computer_id that is somehow generic, and a lot of people have that same ID. You also have another computer that doesn't. This could also possibly point to the use of a virtual machine. There are several known generic computer_ids; this appears to either be a new one that wasn't previously known, or as I said possibly a VM. Your login records only show you using this generic/VM computer_id as of Thursday the 16th. Prior to that, your computer_id shows up as a clean one that belongs to only you. -- Lummox JR
  2. I understand, I'll do my utmost best not to screw this up. I have to say ahead of time though that there may be some, hopefully minor, incidents related to my being new to the game overall. The round before the one that banned me I tried out chef, but the whole station had already gone wild and there were no food sources available and everybody was starving. The previous chef was just lying on the floor, so I tried to cut him up for meat since I'd seen that was a thing, probably on Paradise the night Aurora was dead. Only a few stabs in I got knocked out and an admin explained that wasn't cool and why. That's fine, my bad. Hopefully I don't get into anything banworthy and can eventually dig myself out of this reputation hole. What I'm scared of now is that it sounds like it's not ME that's been unbanned, and that you're still convinced I'm the other guy and unbanned THEM. The alias list was pretty long indicating they're ridiculously persistent in their griefing, AND it was mentioned they tried to appeal the bans. What happens if they come back and chucklefuck? I get fucked right along with them because there's no way to differentiate the account? Making a new account wouldn't help because I'd still have the same computer ID right? It'd just get tagged as another alias on the same ban list? What happens if my computer ID spontaneously changes again? I know you don't believe me on any of this but please humor me with an answer. Would that dig my hole even deeper or would that actually untie me from the other account somehow? I sympathize with your position, for having described the situation as being 99.99% impossible I have to say I'm impressed with the degree of professionalism you were able to retain and thank you for the apology for what little bitterness was portrayed.
  3. http://support.accountedge.com/kb/general/what-is-a-machine-id-and-why-would-it-change Considering I don't really understand any of it I can't promise it actually applies, but it sounded like it might. I tried unplugging my phone and joining the server but I was still banned, that's about all I could garner to try. I followed the guide to bring up network adapter info though and I do have several tunnels but I think they're all listed as Microsoft stuff so I don't know if it's a good idea to mess with those.
  4. The main problem now seems to be the CID thing. I'm glad you found traces of it being a coincidence, but all I can do is promise you I don't have two computers and didn't do anything TO my computer even though I know there's no way to prove it. I just know we played a round, and when the round restarted I got a ban instead of connecting. Definitely didn't reinstall Windows, and I barely know how the inside of my computer works. It's an Alienware, but I am proud of the fact I've at least been able to put another hard drive and new video card in it (not when this incident occurred). There's nothing less extreme that could cause something like this? No programs? A virus? Maybe something like Hamachi? I ask because I can't seem to get it to stop launching on startup and I usually close it, but I may have forgotten. Remembered because I restarted my computer last night. There are maybe three other computers in the house but they barely get used for solitaire and mahjong, but that wouldn't matter if they've never been used to connect to the server would it? I also have that second hard drive I mentioned, and sometimes the computer decides to boot from that for no reason, but that just results in a bootup loop until I do the F12 thing and switch it back manually because it doesn't have an OS installed. I dunno, I'm throwing everything I can think of in desperation. Spent a couple minutes googling hoping to find things that can cause it but I don't really understand much of it. WAIT! Found something that says something called a virtual network adapter can change the code and lists off phone stuff, I do leave my phone plugged in and sometimes it does weird stuff for no reason. I'll experiment some.
  5. Oh, I didn't even notice they WEREN'T an admin. Bleak as the outcome looks I'll thank you for the time you've put into the matter and apologize if either of us seemed to get too defensive. I'm in a sort of panic state over what I guess is... reverse identity theft? Since I guess I'm technically the one that stole somebody else' identity somehow. Anyway, I'll stop bloating the thread now and try to be patient.
  6. It has been mentioned the mistake is possible but slim to the point of not being worth checking. I usually put my faith in the computers making no errors as well but assuming you guys are willing to give it a shot I hope it allows no room for error. At this point I'm almost more interested to see how I got tied up with this other guy than being unbanned. Edit- Where'd Scheveningen's post go?
  7. It is, I literally just made the account within the last week and played a few rounds.
  8. I don't even have access to two computers. And I thought I was probably giving TOO much information, what constitutes a full story? I don't know how to talk in code. But basically what you're saying is that I definitely love to 69 with corgies and if this is a case of mistaken identity it isn't worth looking into?
  9. Should probably mention we're in near constant contact, we're talking on Discord right now and I assure you there is much debate about the problem and banter about me NOT KNOWING HOW TO PUSH THE BUTTON ON THE TOP OF THE COMPUTER.
  10. Yeah it's confusing, but mostly because I literally have no clue what you just said. Sent it to one of my friends for potential translation, now he says he's gonna get involved to "chew some ass and kick some bubblegum". I'm already banned, I guess he can only make it better?
  11. Yeah, I've had this computer for several years now. This is embarrassing to admit but I never really learned how IP works, among other technical gaming basics. As long as the IP stays the same while it's in one spot then yes, I've always played at this IP for BYOND since I only reinstalled it recently. If you're counting over multiple accounts then like I previously mentioned, I had an account I used maybe two or three times many years ago in a different location. That has since been deactivated for inactivity. The account name was ADHDoug (hence the 0 in this one) if that helps. At the previous location I suppose my little brother may have been able to sneak on my computer on rare occasions (since I practically live on it), but he had his own. He was also here last summer with a couple friends, but again, opportunities to access my computer without supervision would have been scarce. My brother and his friend both brought their computers with them, and if either of them played SS13 at the time that might explain the IP issue, but not the computer ID issue. That part is new and concerns me. One of my friends said I should mention I have people who can vouch for me but those are my friends and I realize they could hardly be trusted as unbiased witness. Plus I'm afraid to bring my friends into this as out of several, one is a... well a wildcard who honestly may have to submit his own ban appeal soon enough. I'd go into detail but this probably isn't the place.
  12. First post other than my ban appeal (which has to be a case of mistaken identity, don't worry), saw this topic at the top of the screen and figured, why not get involved here? I do have potent opinions on subjects like this, and they are reflected very strongly in the last few posts from Nanako and K0NFL1QT. I believe MANY ideas listed previously warrant a place in the upgrade, both mechanically and for overall immersion. -PAPERWORK. Not only on the clerical level, but this would also allow corporate to authorize cloning procedures based on importance. Captain basically gets free cloning (or HoP has it authorized if there's a power higher than captain) unless they are a proven antagonist. Captain authorizes heads, captain and heads both need to authorize employees. Nobody wants to do lots of paperwork, this might actually encourage authorities to weigh the effort against productivity and cause of death of the employee. -HEFTY PRICE. There has probably never been an immersive economy because there was never an appropriate incentive. Pay trickles down the ladder from corporate to the little guys who otherwise may not qualify for cloning. Captain delegates funds to heads, heads disperse funds among employees, employees barter with each other and actually start to pay for food and drinks, etc. Where corporate can authorize priority individuals, less important individuals would have to sign clone insurance paperwork ahead of time to authorize fund deduction in case of death. I realize economy is an entirely separate can of worms but I still encourage it. -Put the two systems above together and you have an ecology in which economy and paperwork circulate and become more commonplace. A class system may also form, comprising those who can hopefully afford to pay their own cloning cost, those who are nearly guaranteed cloning privileges, and the middle class that perhaps tries to save enough to ensure a clone, but also works diligently in hopes of being authorized. All while weeding out those who perform terribly and expect to be cloned regardless. People don't pay? People don't get authorized? Attrition builds and the station dries up. That's what HAPPENS. -Initial skeletal, muscle and immune system weakness would certainly make sense, and I believe it was even represented in Avatar but it's been a while. -I don't know the lore of the setting but I like the sound of downgrading the cloning vat from a perfect bio-printer (if that's really what it is) so it excessively accelerates a scratch-grown fetus to adulthood, with the potential for a number of appropriate genetic defects resulting in mental conditions or missing LIMBS (not vital organs). Give psychiatrists, pharmacists, geneticists and roboticists something to do. Facilitate the use of wheelchairs for a while. This should help prevent the clone trooper revolving door from pumping out able-bodied men even during crises in which they will obviously be given priority authorization. -For the above idea to work, non-transhumanist transferal of consciousness could involve scanning and storing brainwave patterns, involving foresight and time investment as part of standard procedure. Alternatively, have those scans automatically upload upon arrival to the station, having been taken as standard procedure before deployment like a vaccination before traveling abroad. The limiting factor here would rely on price and paperwork rather than an intact body. -SomeoneOutTher3 linked an awesome cloning mini-game idea with the equally awesome explanation of actually having to be educated in the field of genetics to perform the process adequately. The better the results the less mental and physical defects presented by the resulting clone. -On the note of genetics requiring education, I feel the cloning labs should be accessible solely to geneticists. While this may seem to be shooting medical in the foot in regards to patient revival, adding defibrillation back should certainly act as a suitable alternative. I'm probably forgetting a few points I wanted to address but that's what I've got off the top of my head after reading through the thread. Some of these have been suggested. I know some will be taken seriously, others will be shouted out. What we've got is a separation of those who want to trust in the roleplaying capabilities of the players, those that want to make sure nobody can ignore RP and circumvent the negatives, and those that want to largely ignore death penalties and get back to playing the game. These are all valid viewpoints and I'm not attempting to discredit any of them, but I feel in a server listed as roleplay heavy, immersion should be the primary concern.
  13. BYOND Key: ADHD0ug Total Ban Length: Can't find it/unstated. Permanent? Banning staff member's Key: "This ban was applied by alberyk on 2016-07-22 15:45:29" Reason of Ban: "For trying to vent the central ring as an atmos tech, messing with the alarms, also the player has a long history of warning with several ckeys, which does lead the staff to believe he is ban evading" Reason for Appeal: Hi, uh, this is only my... third(?) time playing on Aurora? Unless I played once on my other BYOND account that I barely used years ago that I can't use because the account was deactivated from disuse and I don't have access to that email service anymore. I'm new to Spacestation 13, BYOND in general, and therefor also new to being banned. I'm still learning how to play and may make some mistakes related to that, but this is way beyond my scope of understanding. I only figured out what ckey means when I found the form to fill out this appeal. I've never heard of an "awakenedfear" and refuse to ever utilize a name so ridiculously edgy, and nobody else could have played from this connection. I could not have been banned for being an atmos tech, venting a central ring (whatever that is), or messing with alarms when I was playing a JANITORIAL CYBORG doing my very best not to get involved with the cultist craziness that just occurred. On top of all this however I just noticed the date of the ban application was July of last year? So now I'm not so much upset as I am just confused (as you probably will be) as to why this is affecting my brand new account after my first few rounds. I'm sorry this has to be my introduction to the forums, but now that I'm here I'll see about locating an intro thread (if you have one) once I know we have this issue settled.
