Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question.
Why do you wish to play this specific race: The Dionae are one of the most interesting races in Science-Fiction in general I have ever seen. They are an alien Hive-Mind, who's inner working are completely alien to humans, yet they are portrayed very differently to most Hive-Minds in fiction. Instead of wanting to devour or assimilate the whole universe, they simply want to learn, and in effect, survive alongside with the other races (with some exceptions). I find the whole idea of their species very interesting, and it gives me many great ideas for RPing such a character.
Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: (One Paragraph minimum): A Dionae (I mean by that a Dionae Cyclops, the Dionae-Gestalt I will be playing. From here on, I will refer to a Cyclops as a Dionae, if not stated differently) is not merely one person or consciousness. It is an amalgamation of multiple organisms with own minds, working together to form a Dionae-Gestalt. This means, that they are highly intelligent, but often a little slow, due to having to make decisions as a group.
Experience and knowledge are highly valued by Dionae, and they always want to learn more about their Sorroundings. An example of this would be the Dionae-Player I could observe in a recent round ( Who was a major reason why I am writing this App), who spent the majority of the round in the library, where he, with the help of the librarian, read about many topics just for the purpose of learning new things, and was excited to tell bystanders about the new things he learned.
Another thing highly valued by all Dionae is blood (specifically the blood of a sentient being), since it allows not only singular nymphs to achieve higher consciousness, but also lets a Dionae gestalt learn the skills, language and many more things of the owner. There are entire interstellar markets dedicated to selling donated blood of members of various professions to Dionae willing to learn (meaning practically all Dionae). On station, a Dionae could strike a deal with a highly experienced crewmember to get his blood, monetarely or otherwise.
Character Name: Helping-the-Damaged
Please provide a short backstory for this character: Helping-the-Damaged were born as a part of the Dionae-Cluster on the Vaurca-Hiveship of Titan Prime, where they adapted by helping their fellow Dionae, when they were wounded or otherwise damaged by the Vaurca, by bringing them closer to windows, bringing the biomatter etc., and were generally concerned with the survival of all of his brother-sisters.
After leaving the Hive-ship, they wanted to help not only other Dionae, but all other beings, and so went on to studie Medicin at the Luna University of Medical Science. Now their desire to help those who need care has brought them to the NSS Aurora.
Their time on the Hiveship has tought them not only many things about helping others, but also a few basic ways of hiding and survival on space vessels. Sadly, the Trauma that most Dionae from their cluster inhabited has left them too not untouched. With them, it manifested in an almost instinctive distain for Vaurca, even though their conscious minds can mostly forgive them.
What do you like about this character?: That they are, for one, a member of my perhaps favorite species in fiction. About them specifically, I like their motivation. They are motivated by little more then the desire to help those around them, and to put them out of harms way. They have transferred the instinct to help they picked up on the Hiveship from their own to all sentient races, something which I find very admirable.
How would you rate your role-playing ability?: I'm a (by SS13 standards) farely new player, who came in with the event most players like to call "Sseth-Tide". How ever playing this game and sever especially has tought me many things about RPing, and I'm farely confident in my abilities in this regard. I'd still say they are about mid-range tho.
