  1. Everything here. +1
  2. The wording of my title might be wrong. I don't mean to say it's a complaint on all staff-- it's a complaint on the behavior I've noticed in staff members I've interacted with. It's not one staff member particularly, but I don't have names in mind right now because I never thought I'd be making a topic like this, so I didn't exactly stockpile information. I'm not trying to attack the staff or anyone individually-- I'm just trying to address the behavior I've run into several times now. As for how to resolve the problems I've brought up-- if you asked me what I would like to see happen with this post, I'd like to see staff members read it, take it in, discuss it maybe, and be more reasonable when addressing players in game. I don't get a whole lot of freedom to play this server, and I've been banned 3 times now for things where I had no malicious intent, I wasn't threatening the server (except maybe the second time, and that was a bit of ignorance over anything else-- but the staff member insisted otherwise), and I was operating in-character. And it's really frustrating, because leading up to these bans are questions of why I'm doing ________, and when I explain, the admin or moderator or whatever who is messaging me basically goes "NO, THAT IS NOT WHY YOU'RE DOING THIS IT, THIS IS WHY." And no, it's not in caps, and no, it isn't written just like that, but when you get down to it that is what they're saying. I keep dealing with scenarios like: (This is all hypothetical) And this shit is not cool. When I allude to corruption-- I used Knight Templar as an example. I'm sorry if the corruption word rose a red flag-- but I immediately followed up with a comment saying that woudn't be the right word. It's just this officer syndrome where an officer views any potential rule breaker as less than human, and that person or their situation does not matter-- and they get treated as less than. It's not "abuse," but it's a form of corruption that I'm really bad at explaining right now. Abusive jailer? Insensitive jailer? I don't know. The charged language you are using is not necessary. The way you're going about describing your side of the situation makes it easy to mistake you for attempting to inflate the situation beyond what is factual and objective, given the amount of sarcasm and hyperbole here. I want to note that I wasn't using hyperbole here, nor am I using sarcasm. This is raw response to situations that have gone as stated. If it seems charged, I apologize, but I would ask that you ask yourself what has happened for me to even respond like this. My first warning was for jumping in disposals-- I've never done anything like it prior, and I didn't know the length, extent (and I didn't even understand the multi-floor nature of this server) until that moment. And the moderator/admin involved said they had to do it after asking me why. Why did I do it? It was 2am, I was tired, and I had no idea the kind of ride I was in for. They said it was self-harm, against the rules, asked me if I read the rules, I told them I did, and then they proceeded to give me the warning. My whole thing is-- Why ask if you're just going to do it no matter what. Don't fool me into thinking you're trying to help me-- just drop a warning and tell me not to do that. That was the lightest of the situation I've encountered. The ban by Datberry and the ban by Megatron, I assume, are the ones you are talking about. While at the same time I do doubt if it was necessary for Megatron to hand out a dayban for the suicide in solitary case (since, honestly, you did present a reason why you killed yourself in confinement and if it were anyone else that were intent on giving you the time of day, I think they would've been much more lenient despite the warning), the main reason you were likely banned was that you had a warning 12 minutes issued prior generally telling you to avoid the unjustified self-harm. The detail that Megatron may or may not have considered you had a reason to off yourself in-character is something I'm not sure of is which. I thank you for this response. I thought it was crazy, but in the end I accepted it. This isn't so much a complaint about those bans although they are used. Thank you. The ban applied by Alberyk was definitely fair (and the lifting of it one day after when you appealed was also fair), considering you are not a new player and it seemed neglectful that you as the AI left the emitter going to cause the supermatter to delaminate. The other bans I've already made comments about. We apologize again if you've had bad experiences. Ok. Now we're getting into territory where you are not attempting to be cooperative and are throwing out slights on purpose. Whether this is because you're frustrated, or whatever else, generally not relevant. You have pointed out earlier that you are not new to SS13, so it is not much of an excuse that you let the emitter pointed at the supermatter running. People who have spent years playing SS13 learn to focus their attention on the important things and filter out unnecessary info in the chatbox. It is generally hard to believe you were struggling with AI in that case, especially since your first notes date back to early 2015. I don't believe you mentioned it was an accident either that the delamination event occured, so it does seem like it's your fault for not communicating that before you got banned. People rarely get banned for accidents unless they avoid informing the staff that it was actually an accident. Saying, "Sorry, I wasn't paying attention and I didn't realize it was happening" goes miles further than most players would be humble enough to admit to. I have notes from 2015? That is interesting. I don't know what delamination is to be honest. I'm not new to SS13, and prior to these last couple months I haven't played it in an at least a year, maybe two. But I've never played servers with a super matter engine-- they all used singularity engines. (I might've popped in here once in 2015 and walked around a little, but for the most part if I was playing SS13 in 2015 I was playing Colonial Marines or running a server for my RP community). I did explain when asked that I did not know the crystal could explode, and I explained I was trying to help Orlando Wolfe set it up-- and the reason the emitter was turned on was because my thought process was-- "If the power dies, I die. If engine doesn't get up soon, I might not survive. The engie is going to take a while grabbing phoron, and then he has to wait for the crystal to be shot a ton of times. If I shoot it now, we save time." I explained that to Alberyk when he questioned me, and he basically said "That's not how it worked" and I don't remember word for word what he said, but it basically went along the lines of "You are trying to blow us up and that's against the rules" which I construed as "You're lying, your story doesn't matter." I explained to him that it was not my intention and that I didn't know the danger of it-- and at some point he mentioned there were clear warnings. Which I honestly missed because I was filtering out extra stuff. I was paying attention to red text-- Security Radio and Adminhelps, and then after I was banned I noticed Engineering radio alerts about integrity 45% or something like that. Considering you seemed more caught up in issues not including the engine while the supermatter monitor was spamming that it was delaminating, and you probably did not do your best to communicate that whatever happened was an accident, I am not sure if the additional accusations are warranted if at all necessary. I never mentioned to Alberyk that I was trying to deal with the situation with security at the time-- but that's because I was answering the questions he was pointing at me and defending myself. He was insinuating a lot of things in his PMs, and I was telling him "stop insinuating that stuff, I wasn't doing that," and before we could really get to a part where I explained things I was banned. And this wasn't a case of trying to end the situation so a new round can start, because this was between 30-60 minutes into the round. I was miffed because I didn't get a chance to fully experience my first malfunctioning AI round. Erm, sorry if it's coming off that way? I am not in the right head-space to identify those if you could quote one for me to point it out I'll adjust. If you're talking about my parenthetical comments those are usually mostly written as frustrated commentary, and when writing I don't really have malicious intent, I just feel the need to punctuate with my own one-sided feelings because... Well, I don't know I'm human. We've had to deal with many malfunctioning AIs in the past that chose to target the engine right away without much escalation, the case seems much of the same given the timing and inconvenience of it, since it nearly killed the round progression as a whole. It is hard for anyone to believe it was otherwise in the heat of the moment, I would believe you if you said it was due to an accident in forgetting the emitter was still on. You wouldn't have been unbanned barely a day after if you hadn't verbally recognized the mistake you made, so I think you have more to learn as a lesson from this case than the banning admin does. I thank you for this response. I've been getting the shit end of the stick a lot in a short amount of time-- and this is not something that happens often. Operating free of staff and within rules is effortless wherever I go, and the consistency and the rate at which I've had these run ins have been getting to me (on top of the antag shit end where every round feels like I'm just being shut out now-- Play antag, getfuk'd, play non-antag, getban'd-- And I know it's not that serious and I'm not facing 100 bans! This is just the feeling that's rising up. Not trying to start something. Just expressing. Promise). My comment here wasn't really meant to attack Datberry-- or anyone. When I made it, I figured anyone reading this topic might be reading my unban request, as the comment was more pertinent to that. I just needed the topic to be pointed out-- not because I think Datberry is bad. I'm not saying that. I don't believe Datberry is a bad staff (although I do wish I didn't have to deal with nitpick evidence in my unban request), I was more focused on the person who made the topic. That person is the same RD who assaulted me and made the complaint on me that got me banned in the first place-- and their topic shows that they have a habit of printing themselves weapons/whatever and using flashes on people unprovoked-- and when people retaliate on them for it, they complain and try to get them banned. In that instance, Datberry sided with the antag-- but in my instance(I assume cause I wasn't an antag) (s)he sided with the RD. It's not really pertinent to this topic at all, as I said "It's unrelated, whatever." And when I said princess syndrome, it wasn't targeted at Datberry it was targeted at the poster-- Which is still an attack on someone's character I guess, but if assessing someone's behavior is an attack I'm probably going to do it anyways. I'm sorry I included it-- I just needed it to be pointed out for staff eyes, and I didn't think it appropriate for my ban topic. Onto more productive things however, I thank you guys for your response. This feels like a way better staff interaction than what I run into in-game. I've already explained what I go through in game, and I've shared my feelings and raw reactions to what I experience in game already-- so I won't waste time repeating it here at the end of this post. I just want this response here, this give and take, actual discussions in game-- in round. Usually I get-- Well, look at the unban topic with Datberry. It usually looks like that. Except, it's usually for something smaller than self-defense against HoS.
  3. C: They grabbed the sword- threw it into science (none of which I saw because it happened so fast and instant), then I said "HEY!" then they flashed me and I cut my next say short "Why the fu0." I don't know how much charge their flash had, but they resorted to a stun gun leading me to believe their flash was out of charge or reloading or something. I am still under attack-- you are presenting a situation in which they would've easily won, and I wouldn't even get the chance to fight back to disarm them, cause I'd be dead at this point. Then this wouldn't be a matter of me defending myself, this would've been a matter of me dying and sitting in the dead-lobby until the round restart (because I would've considered the whole situation just some IC occurrence and went with it-- if I reported it, this would've been a complaint on why this person is an RD and allowed to do that) I really don't understand why these details are being nitpicked to this extent! If a changeling was choking me I had no right to fight him with lethal means to try and escape? Even though we all know that at the end of a choke is a absorption that kills? Or would it just be OK cause he's an antag-- and that made my lethality valid. Death- imprisonment- anything happens WAY too quick to allow ANY of this hostility to go unanswered. I've been shot by security for stepping out of airlocks. That's it. I popped out of Airlocks and I've been shot. And no admin came to my aid. On any of this. I still hold in the back of my mind the round where I walked around, got to RP with one guy and subdued him and was RPing with him-- then some HoS comes out and starts shooting me without a word-- five minutes later they're fully armed and fully armored, blow themselves up chasing me, and I end up locked to a bed for 2 hours before I get debrained and borged. I once got flashed and put in a cell for an entire round for walking past police tape. Someone walks up to me and flashes me, I disarm them and use their weapon on them defensively, and I have to go to the ends of the earth to prove that it was self-defense. Nevermind the fact that I'm being scrutinized for the lethality of the weapon that they made and carried openly that lead to this whole thing! No. The part where my aim lowered-- I was moving south down the hallway near the dormitory on the main level. I put distance between us and then she ran back. I went toward the bathroom, toward the library with intentions to get to medical/security, and then she came back around again near me so I aimed at her. It was at this time she screamed in the radio that I'm a mutineer, and proceeded to shoot at me again. I didn't even notice she said that because she was shooting again instead of talking and RPing TO ME when I still haven't shot anything manually. Then Nathan Corvo and Blitzkrieg came in, and then they started shooting at me instead of her and I just /wrist'd inside as the stun prod put me on my ass. I wasn't trying to kill anyone and I didn't give chase. Once we got this far in, after I was shot at, after I had the gun out, I wanted space t talk, but this person only made space to talk after she ran away, just to tell the station I was a mutineer (something I still didn't have time to read because she came right back after and its the heat of battle). You could say that I didn't have to aim at her when she came back-- but then that opens the door for her to get stun shots on me that would make me drop and then she can take the gun and shoot me which she had clear intents to do (in hindsight when you read the logs and see she says "KILL HIM" and all of that-- (just using hindsight nitpicky details because that's what's being used on me).
  4. And you're still nitpicking in the worst ways! Fine. But the details that matters is: At some point you insinuated I got it out of R&D, I didn't. ONCE is more times than necessary, especially as someone who is completely innocent and isn't doing anything remotely aggressive. There was NO REASON to flash, this was an ATTACK. I did not do ANYTHING but say "HEY." They FLASHED ME, UNPROVOKED, and a FLASH is a KNOCKDOWN. A FLASH is DEATH or INSTANT SLAVERY on SS13. Stop acting like it's not. It is a Security's GO-TO WEAPON to someone without eye protection. It is the very tool that secures Security's very power over you the instant you start to recover. This is SELF DEFENSE. If you want me to wait until they actually shoot me to "defend myself" then there is no defending myself, cause at this point I'm dead. Or dying. They flashed me with a gun in their hand. They are an AGGRESSOR threatening my safety and well-being, and I removed their means of killing me AS SOON AS POSSIBLE following their immediate aggression. I didn't chop their head off, I didn't bludgeon them to death, I didn't shoot them, I disarmed them and removed the threat. Immediately. They are not security. They are not in uniform. They are an aggressive unmarked individual. You know what they can do? Not shoot. Not walk. Not do anything and just fucking talk. And we can "discuss" what occurred and de-escalate the situation. I didn't have to AIM. I clearly took the time to click aim before I clicked them. I didn't have time to change any other options and allow them to walk, but all they had to fucking do was not move and breathe a minute. They had options. The whole point of me aiming was to STOP THEM from doing what they were doing so we could talk. Prior to this, they were MENACING me. No, I didn't. I addressed the person who took the object from me. They took the item without a single RP, without saying a single thing to me. They could've chopped my head off. I said "HEY!" because they caught me off guard, and before I could finish typing my next line they flashed me. That's why you say "why the fu0" because I missed the "-" key the instant I heard the flash sound. I didn't go to grab the sword, I didn't break into or go into Science. I don't have access to science. This all occurred in the hall between Science and the holodeck, and I turned around and typed, moved two two tiles and got flashed. Bullshit excuse. and you should be ashamed of yourself for even saying that shit. "Failing to examine people is on you,," so I should die as I try to examine someone, then read their text and assess who they are while they're fucking shooting and attacking me? Bullshit. That is complete bullshit. I don't know why you're defending this person so hard-- or maybe you're defending your action hella hard, but that is insanely bullshit. No one is held to that standard. I don't expect that from anyone, especially not the average player. A whitelisted person maybe, who's held to higher standards by default. But this? Again, bullshit. No one ran to grab anything, no one had time to do that. I didn't even have time to finish typing before they fucking flashed me. Thank you for acknowledging that their identity was not clear from a glance. Onto the rest: I argue that it's self-defense. Are you saying I can't disarm someone of their shotgun if they punch me? They clearly had intents to hurt me, and I removed their biggest advantage and item in hurting me. They attacked me. Hostility is now ON. And I did nothing lethal to them. This is bullshit. I'm being shot. This is aggression. You can't measure conflict like this. It doesn't make sense. On one hand, it is just a stun. But a stun leads to SO MUCH MORE. ALWAYS. It's either handcuffs or beating to death or hanging or slicing or debraining-- it leads to MORE. Especially when this person had lethal weapons on them, in their HAND. They weren't walking around with stun weapons, they were walking around with LETHALS ready to kill. They had a stun as BACKUP. And after I was stunned they were screaming "KILL HIM." Aside from that, stun or not, they are ATTACKING. How do you measure what is good self-defense. You're telling me if I have a bomb on me and they are shooting me, I can't throw the bomb they know I have- and I have to run and toil away to find a stun weapon to meet them with equal force? That's completely idiotic. Edit: I understand "bomb" is probably not the best and helpful example for my situation, but it is an honest hypothetical to understand the logic I'm faced with. Am I really expected to find means to meet the person with equal force or just become their bitch? Like, if I'm the cook and all I have is a knife with me, and someone comes in with a stun gun to fuck me up, am I not allowed to slice them because they don't have lethals they just got stuns? Come on! And how am I being scrutinized for these minute details AFTER everything is settled and not the RD for blatantly saying "KILL HIM" showing their intent in all this? If I never disarmed them and I got shot, how would this look? I would've just been sitting in the dead chat and you guys probably would've ignored it like "oh she thought he was cult" or maybe a slap on the wrist or something. Come on now. How is ANY of this overboard? Because I used lethals? THAT THEY HAD? So disarming someone of a lethal weapon, and then pointing it at them and basically telling them "DONT MOVE" through body language with the same weapon THEY WERE CARRYING that they fully know the CAPABILITIES OF after they already shot at you several times is overboard? They SHOT ME. They got aimed at, and they still SHOT ME knowing that I will automatically shoot back at them because that's what the whole function is. How is ANY OF THIS OVERBOARD. You're basically telling me that it's my duty to sit there and get shot the fuck up. The following Spoiler is unrelated and is mostly venting I didn't obscure key details. If you're referring to the identity of the object, I didn't mention it because the object shouldn't fucking matter. I don't know what the complaint that lead you to me was about, but when you addressed me, the situation was about why I shot the RD. Which was simple-- they attacked me, and I disarmed them and tried to hold them up. Those are all the key details. And it's really one-sided for you to say that taking the object from me and flashing me is a perfectly acceptable conduct, but disarming the person who flashed and almost-stole from me isn't. Edit: One of the first things you say in your response is that none of that stuff prior is even relevant! Now you're calling it a key detail. I was never in science. I didn't trespass. I never took a step into science. This all occurred in the hallway. I don't know who told you it was science, but they fucking lied. ... I... Never did any of that? How do I have a note about that? I've never interacted with an antagonist as a non-antagonist. I'm always in atmos or in the shafts mining. I might be mistaken and my memory might just be really horrible, but I honestly need my memory jogged if that's the case. I don't recall this interaction in the slightest, and my warnings all have to do with self-harm. I'm not sure what you're talking about, if this is just an analogy or something cool-- but this was not a stun prod. This was a stun revolver. A weapon that looks like a lethal weapon, and STILL results in so much worse. And you keep ignoring that and it's very upsetting. And again, I didn't shoot anyone, they shot themselves. You might not agree with aim-mode, but that's the fucking point of the function. To get the other person to stop and actually assess their situation. I was trying to create space to talk. And they decided to go balls out, not caring about their own health and take bullets in an attempt to shoot me. That's not my fault. They attacked me 4 times before I pointed the gun at them. They flashed me. They shot at me three times, and then I aimed at them to get them to stop. And they kept going. Just like I allegedly had time to examine them(except I didn't, because I was flashed in the middle of typing and I was never in science and never grabbed the sword or even saw it after they took it), they had time to stop and type at me or try to aim back or do something other than shoot and get themselves reflex-scoped. I know the problem with lethals. But I do not accept any of what you're saying here. I wasn't the one who printed a gun. I wasn't the one walking around with the gun. I was walking down a hallway. A neutral hallway. I subsequently, in the midst of RPing, had the item that my RP revolved around in that instance removed without roleplay, stashed away. When I tried to talk to the person, I was attacked with a flash-- a item used to subdue someone instantly. I cut my next line of text short. Then rushed in to disarm them because I saw a GUN, and I didn't want to get fucking shot. I got the gun from them, and instead of RPing or talking, the person insisted on continuing VERB. I responded with equal VERB. They SHOT AT ME, and I took the same weapon that THEY PRINTED, as NON SECURITY, and WITHOUT UNIFORM, and POINTED IT AT THEM. Because this purple dress crazed woman is ATTACKING ME in the HALLWAY and is a WALKING ARSENAL. And I refuse to go with the idea that I was in the wrong for responding to what could've been an over-armed Antagonist. Especially when all my actions were to DISARM and to REMOVE THE POWER the AGGRESSOR had over me. They were shot, yes. BECAUSE THEY DID NOT WANT TO GO WITH THE SITUATION OR RP WITH SOMEONE WHO REMOVED SOME OF THEIR POWER. Lethals were used, yes. BECAUSE THEY MADE THE LETHALS AND CARRIED IT WITH THEM. Everything you're blaming me for, and saying I did wrong, is literally by fault of the RD. And if I have to submit to that shit to get unbanned, fuck that.
  5. I do want to say that the ban might've just been a quick fix because they were delaying the round to talk to me. I am okay with that, but I am miffed that I have to wait until tomorrow to play when I might not have that same freedom tomorrow. I'm missing out on rounds during my time to actually play, which is just my problem and all but meh. I'm not salty I was banned, and I don't resent anyone. I just want that to be clear. I do understand that particular reasoning for a ban, and I just want it corrected (and possibly discussed more thoroughly). I have made another thread about conduct where said discussions can take place.
  6. BYOND Key: Jetnissan Staff BYOND Key: General Staff Conduct, not a specific Key. Game ID: I don't have the IDs for these rounds, but it's occurred over several rounds. Reason for complaint: I've had several run ins with staff here that have gone extremely sour. I've run Byond games, played Byond game, adminned for others on Byond games, and have done all of the above on non-Byond games. I'm not a stranger to staff, code, player conduct, staff conduct, byond staff conduct, or any of that. But what I find here is a really bad big-brother esque system that-- I don't know about anyone else, I just can't bring myself to agree with it. I don't know what word to use to describe it, because it borders corruption without quite being corruption. There's like this, Knight Templar syndrome in a lot of the staff I've gotten mixed up in. Evidence/logs/etc: This is the latest thing to occur that I've bothered to log: https://forums.aurorastation.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&p=82150#p82150 Additional remarks: So, my thing is: I have two warnings from staff who have pulled me aside to talk to me, as if they were benevolent beings trying to figure out why I'm on the wrong path, and rather than have an actual discussion with me they feign the discussion to beat me upside the head with charges after asking for my testimony. If that's the kind of server this is, why waste my time by asking me for my testimony? If you don't care to understand me, or to seek out why I might've done something, then do't ask and just put the charges down so I know what I'm dealing with. I've also been banned three times for ridiculous things (okay well two of them were ridiculous, the first was a disagreement that you can find in another thread), that were completely one sided attacks on my character after asking me "why" I was doing things. But no one cared why I did it, they only cared to ban me and get rid of me, and just asked "why" as if they needed to before they could hit the ban button. Each time I explain why I was being talked to by whatever admin who PM'd me, I gave them my 100% honest story, with my 100% honest understanding of things, and rather than hear me out, try to understand my situation, and work with me to make a better and healthier game environment, protecting the integrity of the game-- they insist on instead nitpicking details to make you look wrong and bad however they can and as quickly as they can. Then they hit the ban button. I was banned by Alberyk as a Malfunctioning AI for trying to help Orlando Wolfe set up the engine faster, and at some point after our argument I noticed he said "there were clear warnings." He not once took the time to think: "Well, the AI has to sift through 10 radio channels and a bunch of bullshit, maybe they were overwhelmed with chat or doing something, maybe they stepped away from their computer" -- none of this was reasoned. It was simply: "You tried to blow up the station as the AI, getbannedchump" before the round even got halfway done. When I was explaining that I was assisting, there was this message he kept sending that basically said "You need to adminhelp to try to blow up the engine" completely ignoring the fact that I was trying to help Orlando Wolfe set things up. My situation had me also trying to help Security deal with some problem with the robotics bay, where the roboticst was destroying my Holopad-- there was just a whole lot going on-- and for a staff member to come in with their witch hunt, ask me why I'm trying to blow things up, and when I explain that I'm not, they just keep nitpicking small details to make me look like I am (TO MYSELF, I MEAN WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO PROVE IT TO IN A PM TO THE SUSPECT?), and then for that staff member to hit you with a ban. Come on, this is not healthy conduct for any server. This is not how you grow. If anything, if I was to intentionally mess with the engine as that role, it would be to distract people from something else I was doing so I could go on with my antag responsibilities. But why would I blow up the whole God damn station as someone who is actually invested enough in this server to make topics about it and keep coming back. Stop trying to chase away your PB. Jesus. And most recently, in that topic I linked above, I was dealing with Datberry who refused to acknowledge my character's attempts at self-preservation, nor my OOC attempt at self-preservation. He even went as far as to nitpick logs after everything was over to say "Well they used a stun gun and you used lethals so you're wrong." I don't know about the rest of you, but when people use guns on me in SS13, I don't stop to search the wiki or my memory for "Is that a stun gun or a gun," I'm too busy trying to dodge or retaliate. And I don't know about the rest of you who do stop to scan your memory and your wiki for lethals or stuns, but a stun is more dangerous than a lethal cause it instantly puts you out of the fight. A KO is worse than handful of bullets. You can survive a full magazine by finding someone else to help you, or by running/hiding or by treating yourself if you can. Hell, you can call for help on the radio. If you get stunned, you black out. The person who stunned you can do anything to you in the world. If you check the Colonial Marines server, 90% of their combat mechanic revolves around death-stuns. And you mean to tell me you can nitpick a stun gun over a lethal and ban someone like that? You mean to tell me if I pull a stun revolver and shoot at people, and they shoot me in the head with lethals, I can get them banned for trying to kill me when I was trying to stun them to do something equally bad or way worse to them? All of this is just to say: Staff Conduct is consistently questionable here, I don't like it, I don't know if anyone else likes it or if they're too into their roles to ever actually have a run in with staff like I have, but none of it is good. I don't like being treated like I'm sub-human on this game, especially when I put a lot of effort into staying in character and RPing through everything, as opposed to LOOCing or just acting without "Me"'s and "Say"'s. Please, adjust/regulate this behavior and be more empathetic or something. Or you know, don't. Whatever. I'll eventually stop caring and migrate I guess. Edit: When I found my other thread was moved to this forum, I also found this thread started by the RD who resulted in my latest ban here. I find it very interesting, with this thread active, that Datberry went through with whatever complaint this same person made. I am not surprised by whatever complaint that may have been made about me after they made a thread like this dealing with an actual antagonist. Seems like princess Syndrome. Unrelated, but. Whatever.
  7. I need to address this: The round was past the 1 hour mark. Rounds end typically by 2:15. By means of CT votes. It was pretty much the entire round. You can say "maybe we wouldn't have had one" or something like that. But my response to that is simple and grounded in the practical: Don't feed me bullshit, that was the entire round. And if you want me to sit in a cell for 50 minutes to see if MAYBE, it isn't the entire round. At 1AM or 2AM or whatever time this was. To get maybe another 20-30 minutes of RP tops after having my role that round stripped from me. You're insane and just not being very empathetic. While I have nothing against you personally, or your IC performance in this situation, the staff here tends to be really nitpicky and make points that don't quite matter to invalidate the people they're talking to. So I'm taking a golden opportunity to do the same here. No, my sentence was never altered. I did not compare me being in timeout to 127 hours. I compared the idea of being stuck for eternity and not being able to choose the means of my own death to 127 hours. If I am not in control of my destiny, and I am at the mercy of some cruel unfeeling beast (my cell, or security), then I, alike the main character of 127 hours, can go to places where inflicting pain on myself is a very viable option. That is the connection I made. The whole "give people a chance to escape" thing I mentioned has nothing to do with my suicide. It is a suggestion I make for a healthier RP environment for antagonists. Not mainly directed at you, but directed at security overall. Many antag rounds I've been chained up entirely and I never do anything lethal as an antagonist. Except for one time as a malfunctioning AI where I got banned for trying to help an engineer get the engine running faster, but my inexperience with the engine and AI got an admin to valid-ban me ASAP. This is true. I banged on glass, and as soon as I saw that there was no way out I immediately started making a mess, flipping tables, and throwing stuff everywhere. I thought this was cool and valid RP of some guy who felt wronged and had no other way to express himself because all the ears that were available to him had tuned him out more or less. This was my favorite moment in that whole scenario. I wouldn't call it self mutilation. It's not like I took a knife and started carving my head up. I picked up a stool, and started bludgeoning myself. I could've ghosted I guess? I wasn't quite aware you could ghost without already being dead or near-dying, and I don't like to leave myself behind SSD. Regardless, you had ample access to straitjackets to prevent me from doing whatever it is I was doing, and once I got myself crit enough I succumbed and was out of there. Honestly, at 1-2AM in the morning, in a situation like that, I don't see why you couldn't just let it go in the first place. Kinda just feels like instead of putting in the proper energy to deal with the situation IC, you just wanted to be done with it and tried to slap that ban real quick. I also want to be clear that those last two lines are not an attack on your or your character, I like your characters and respect you. I just really don't agree with that ban.
  8. BYOND Key: Jetnissan Total Ban Length: 10080 Banning staff member's Key: datberry Reason of Ban: Reason: After having had his sword taken forcefully by the RD, during code red. they pushed them, took an SMG, and returned fire when the RD attempted to taze them. escalating to lethals due to an issue he partially started. do make an unban appeal if you wish to continue arguing this.. Reason for Appeal: Chat Logs of my discussion with DatBerry. I believe that our entire conversation reasons why I shouldn't be banned. For those who don't have time or interest to read the logs, I'll say this: I was banned because an admin (their rank really doesn't matter, please don't waste time correcting moderator, admin, or any of that) sifted through details of a completely IC occurrence after it was over and grabbed whatever details they could in order to ban me. No, I don't think I'm being targeted, it is likely the person involved (player of Winoa Summers) requested they investigate and lynch me, and so the admin took it upon themselves to make sure it happened (Or maybe Datberry is Winoa, which would explain a whole lot more and call into question the conduct of a server who allows the people directly involved in the situation with a stake in it to persecute). A bunch of details were used to make me bannable in any way they could. Information was cherry picked to make me look bad-- The narrative pretty much looks like "He tried to murderbone a head of staff." What actually happened was, Head of staffed attacked me while I was fully armed, and I did all I could to disarm them and keep things from escalating whilst ensuring my own well being, my own safety. I made this clear in my conversation with Datberry, and Datberry responded that I was being tased (even though a stun revolver looks like a lethal weapon, both IC and OOC, and we all have played SS13 long enough to know that once you're stunned you're fucked. People can bomb you, take your weapons from you, beat you to death, lock you up, surgery you, do WHATEVER they want. Being stunned is much more dangerous than being shot even 3 times. You can at least survive, fight back, or hide with 3 bullets in you. You are fucked if you are stunned), and completely ignored my reasoning using hindsight to ban me instead of acknowledging calls made -in the moment-. I guess we're expected to fully analyze a situation and have 100% awareness of everything going on in the middle of combat. This whole thing to me, seems as dumb as this hypothetical situation should sound to you: You're expected to know that you shouldn't turn on your lighter to light your path through maintenance because the plasma in the air is too thick because someone misplaced a pipe and lit the Head of Security on fire and killed them while you were running away from some pirate who was shooting at you. But it's your fault because you should know that and the head of Security shouldn't have known that because you shouldn't have tried to set him on fire.
  9. BYOND Key: Jetnissan Total Ban Length: 10080 minutes. Banning staff member's Key: Alberyk Reason of Ban: Reason for Appeal: I do not believe the ban was justified. I have two warnings-- neither of which I believe are justified, which is what I believe Alberyk is referring to when he mentioned my notes in our discussion leading up to my ban. Addressing my warnings: I have two for self-harm, one for going through the dumpster and being cycled into a multi-floor trash compactor. I had no idea the length and the multi-floor system that really fucked me. I was expecting to come off a conveyor belt in some small room. It was late, and I was about ready for bed. Was seconds from logging out after that fun ride, and an administrator PM'd me about it. I was trying to explain that it was late and that the disposal system is way different than any server I've played, and he wasn't bothering to hear it. He apologized, and gave me a warning. This is like, the equivalent of giving someone a ticket for j-walking in a new town. My second warning was for self-harm as a brigged antagonist. I was brigged for an hour for trespassing, and in an effort to get out of the brig-- after trying to break out and making a mess of the place I resorted to self-harm. It got me out of the brig, but soon got me back in. After being placed in solitary, couldn't bare being in such a closed space any longer with no hope of getting out, so I took a stool and offed myself more or less. Leading up to this, I was very vocal about my feelings of being imprisoned, especially when I felt wronged IC-- severely wronged and abused, and at the mercy of people who did saw me as a nice target to flex their corporate power on, and I showed signs that I could be a danger to myself. Rather than get someone to put me in restraints-- the admin involved chose to give me a warning and a ban at the same time. Wooh. When my ban expired, two days later, I saw other antagonists doing the same thing and they didn't get warnings, but they did get the straitjacket I never got (Must be something about late nights/EU time huh?). Now I'm banned for messing with the engine, and from our discussion it seemed Alberyk was convinced I was doing it on purpose to sabotage or grief the server, I don't know what his intentions are-- but here is our conversation. He came straight out of the gate trying to purge me from the server-- I just want to say some healthy and nice admin conduct would be: But anyways--- I didn't know what I was did would result in an explosion, and it didn't, when I looked in Engineering there was an engineer dragging phoron canisters back and forth. He was also accessing, or at least trying to access the engine. Orlando Wolfe, in full void-suit. The worst I thought could happen was phoron might leak somewhere, but there was an engineer there so I didn't expect any problems-- and I would get alerts if there were problems. I was essentially banned for not knowing enough about something, on a server that is different than any other server, with no wiki or guide to support its changes (unless they're hidden here somewhere on this forum). I don't think that's fair at all, and the insanely easy alternative to all of this was just telling me what I did wrong and how to do it right.
  10. BYOND Key: Jetnissan Total Ban Length: 1440 Minutes Banning staff member's Key: notmegatron Reason of Ban: "Suiciding in the brig after being put in solitary confinement. When contacted, proceeded to send me links about the detrimental effects of said confinement. Please work on your attitude, and review the rules.." Reason for Appeal: I believe my suicide was entirely justified. I would like to address both the IC and OOC aspects of this situation. OOCly, I'm being jailed for half a round (about an hour) for being in the HoP office as- not the HoP. I was found by the AI, and I wasn't doing anything particularly "villainous" aside from sitting inside there staring at Ian while I dealt with something IRL. AI proceeds to call in security, and I completely comply, give a testimony/alibi, head down to Security, RP with them a bit, and get sentenced to spend that time in the brig after my compliance and alibi. So, it's after 12; I have work in the early AM, this round is pretty much over for me because either someone will break me out (never happens, and I don't have allies as this type of antag), there will be a prison break (in which case security will flash or stun-dick anyone who actually breaks out anyways), or I will be stuck in the brig until the round ends. Essentially wasting time I would be better spent sleeping. I've already committed this much, let's see where else it can go, and get a forceful ejection from the round and generate a little fun in the process, right? So I proceed to go down the "Jail over my dead body" route and start doing what I can to get out of jail, or to just not have to live in jail. I get harm warning, and I guess megatron expected me to instantly change my character and RP something new on the spot, who knows why he'd think that I should do that (and if that's what he really wanted he should've put an end to the character for that round if he didn't want to deal with them), and another security officer put me into solitary. I go ahead and try to break out of this even tighter space, find that there is no way out. Start flipping tables, writing on the paper assigned to me, then finally attempt to beat myself into a concussion and end it again. Unrealistic? I don't think so, especially when done with a stool. Three good hits and a bit of conviction you can do it. Of course, megatron insisted on me not doing that and I have brought up articles exploring the psyche of someone faced with that situation and more, and even cited a more media-friendly source that he might be familiar with '127' hours exploring the capabilities of someone who is essentially a "cornered rat." Now, furthermore OOCly I've been through some real terrible behavior with security, everything from validhunting in full armor the instant someone mentioned me on the prowlas an antag, to getting hit with shotgun slugs the minute I stepped out of a maintenance tunnel. The worst situation I've been in was a 4AM round where the Head of Security caught me RPing with a security officer who I was not harming at all, who I could have easily killed and they went rambo on me when I RP'd at them. Then, I ran-- because why kill them when there's more RP to be had right? And they turned around and not even 4 minutes later they were fully decked out in double laser/plasma gun, ablative helmet and ablative armor to combat my ninja weapons that I've never even revealed or used-- and instantly started shooting at me. Still with no shots fired by me, they proceeded to chase me down, blow themselves up shooting a fuel tank, and I spent the next 2 hours in that round knocked out, then forced into the medbay, handcuffed to a bed where security was constantly flashing me and spraying me, and I roleplayed through all of it. They roleplayed through a quarter of it at best-- there were moments when I literally waited until their backs were turned and roleplayed something like "quietly jiggles his wrists to mess with the cuffs", and was met with the eyes in the back of their head with this top-down omniscient view of the game world. I got pinned with murder of the HoS, dicked around with, and finally after 2 hours I got debrained, and turned into a cyborg. I don't like dealing with security of any of the RP that comes with it. The mindset of players in Security for the most part is gross, and is unhealthy for RP-- and there are more rules protecting them from Antagonist needlessly, and very little protecting antagonists from them and this behavior. All I got at the end of that was a few players sympathizing and what felt like a half-assed apology from an admin involved in it. You know, the type of half-assed idea that "My character has to do all of this shitty stuff" like they've never read a book or watched a TV show before. If every character carried out their duty perfectly and to the letter with all intents to win at every second and had not allowed a single error to occur, half your favorite stories would be done with and turned into a laughable shadow of what they are. Yeah, you catch an antag, you gotta put them through the ropes. But to lock them down forever is ridiculous, and uneccessary. They are supposed to be creating RP, and you're spending an hour making sure they can't RP, and that everyone else can't benefit from what they bring to the table. Half the rounds that go by, people don't even know what kind of round it is because you do that. Yes, you are security, you job is to make the station safe. Your job is not to completely deny antag RP and to spend every waking moment as a sentry keeping watch on these antags like you don't have human needs like bathroom breaks or a desire to drink at the bar or some romantic venture or some shit that takes your eyes off the Antags long enough for the Antags to try and get out and do something other than sit in the brig for the rest of the round. Am I saying you need to hand them the keys? No-- but that would be cool if you did. You just need to leave them alone and let them actually do something. Leave options for them to escape, leave openings for them to make RP, and you will get more out of it in the end I swear it. What have you got to lose? Even if they turned around and killed you, which most of them don't, someone will save you or clone you anyways! And you won't go to jail or lose half your items like the antags do after cloning! Now, onto the IC of it. My character just got detained for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Big brother AI caught him, now he's fucked. He complies, he puts up no fight and no protest, and he follows security back to Sec-wing. He sits down for questioning, gets strip-searched after being allowed to enter peacefully, and get's sentenced immediately after he gives his alibi. At first he freaks out, he didn't get a lawyer, any type of trial, he didn't even get to make official statements on record-- and "Shitcurity" is a thing. Security has a chain of command, but they answer to themselves, they can do whatever they want, they're free to abuse any and all power they have available-- and he's watching them do it with his own eyes and stacking the entire deck against him. His response? Death has to be better than being a caged animal who has done nothing to hurt anyone. He proceeds to try and find ways to take himself out, but security keeps interrupting and locks him in the brig. In the brig, he shouts he's innocent, and he's pleading for someone to hear him-- but they're ignoring him. He feels helpless, cornered, and he feels as though the treatment hes received so far when he's been nothing but compliant is only the tip of the iceberg. So he starts to panic and freak out-- all that stuff he kept under wraps earlier like resisting the urge to fight and run for his own survival are now bubbling to the surface. He starts trying to smash windows, he starts throwing stuff, he does whatever he can to vent and draw attention. He wants out-- and he realizes there isn't a way out, even with the warden coming out to watch him and ask him to stop. So-- he realizes his only way out is the stool in his hands, and in one bout of pure conviction he smashes himself in the head. Now, he can't stop. Or else he's just an idiot who gave himself a headache. He's fucked up his face, he's got a splitting headache, it needs to end. So he keeps going, and security stops it and locks him down. He's free again, and he's conscious, but he realizes the nightmare is real and is still going, and he has nothing to do further harm so he punches himself a couple times, and jesus does it hurt, but before he can even process that pain security is back again. The one act of agency he has left is so far from his reach that it drives home this depression and psychosis with whatever impaired cognitive function gained from the stool. The doctors work on him, and he dreams of crazy stuff and a detective(irrelevant sleep procs), and when he wakes up, he's chewing on his hand. He eventually chews it enough to free himself from the cuffs and with his inability to free himself from his current hell, he starts fighting security to get away. But they throw him in solitary, where he has even less freedom and... Oh, a stool. He's already beat himself with a stool once, he can do it again. And no one has thought to put a straight-jacket on him. So, he grabs the stool, starts trying to break out-- he can't. He tries to fuck with the AI by tapping on their holopad controls, but it's useless, and he eventually decides to crack himself over the skull. He goes down, he succumbs, because death's sweet release is better than being some slave to security with absolutely no freedom and no human rights. I believe my character arc is justified both ICly and OOCly. And I believe the ban (and the warning associated with it) to be unjust. When there are no cyanide pills, one must resort to brutal measures.
  11. I'm sorry if I come off as a player who is gun-ho "damn that admin dictatorship." The things people I've seen banned or removed for petty reasons have been a bit irksome and may have rubbed off on my post. I figured it might have been something common and thought it may have been a good idea to bring it to staff attention in an app that they would likely end up reading.
  12. BYOND Key: Jetnissan Total Ban Length: Job Ban Banning staff member's Key: GlamourChariot Reason of Ban: Accidental Atmos Grief Reason for Appeal: I was job banned because of a mistake in Atmospherics in an extended round at 12:18AM 04-13-2015. I replaced all the pumps with high pressure pumps and switched them on. I was in the process of performing a powernet upgrade to support my changes when I was stopped by an administrator(during which time Atmospherics experienced rolling power outages because I was unable to move). My mistake was thinking that the valves to dangerous gases were on-- and I moved to switch them off. However, as a precaution I asked the active station AI(Who was named HELIX for this round) to alert me to any atmospheric alerts and anomalies. With the AI as my "safety-net" I intended to perform upgrades(in a way that would hint to the inexperience of my IC character who has a knack for Engineering, but is young and impatient and doesn't quite have the order of operations nailed down just yet). I was told that my mistake was a very serious offense, and that it would result in a job ban(and that I was lucky it wasn't a full ban). My immediate response to this could be summed up as, "how unappealing and unfun." There is such little room for error that one can not even make and fix their mistakes ICly without fear of a rather oppressive OOC staff getting involved with "serious punishment," Granted SS13's community is quite wild and such a stance is understandable, this seems quite ridiculous. I've invited friends to the server that has experienced severe punishments for minor, and even "pointless" action(such as one guy getting banned for end-game hostilities after the round had ended and admins delayed the server reboot). I very much enjoy the idea of heavy RP SS13, and I used to run private servers of heavy RP SS13 myself. But to be job banned from two of the only jobs that interest me over a mistake during a station upgrade seems ridiculous. Especially when that mistake wasn't an intentional grief. I could much better understand if I was out to kill everyone on the station with atmospherics, but it was a small fuck up that would add to the RP of a bare-bones extended round anyways. A problem that could be remedied and turned into a plot line(or just solved with a crew transfer like every other round). With that said, the RP-Nazi stance found here is rather off-putting, and I firmly believe the staff of the server should work on improving it. It's better to have those invested in the RP, rather than invested in the rules(and who focus on the preemptive enforcement of such rules).
