  1. So, uh....how do Unathi sit on chairs? I mean, from the lore-page, unless I've read something wrong, they're reverse jointed, like a birds, that must lead to some uncomfortable relaxing sessions.
  2. All things VUX get a plus one from me for various reasons. But recognizing the character, I can vouch for their ability to RP and make highly interactive characters and tell a good story
  3. BYOND Key:Focks in a Bocks Character Names: Tanja Kurita, Hasna Rishat How long have you been playing on Aurora: just under a month and a half regularly now. Species you are applying to play:Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): I'm flip flopping between charcoal and olive drab. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race:I've read the lore section and it says that while many of the Unathi that leave Moghes and Ouere follow security and engineering, they have opportunities that they'd never find on their homeworld, and so-far I've only seen a chaplain and a singular engineer, the rest have been security(not to say there aren't others out there, I just haven't met them). I was thinking of adding a little more spice to the medical department with a large, terse, somewhat annoyed lizard. I also find playing as a member of a species that's so engrained in tradition it keeps flinging them back into circles, and no one seems to mind an interesting concept. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:As I brought up in my last sentence, they're very staunch in tradition, and generally are outright hostile to new ideas and progress beyond a snails pace. Also the social cues and ladder being much more built towards a very plain and outright submission-dominance struggle, having a very different view of subtly with a "heart of my sleeve" approach to diplomacy and conversation. That and working in space when your species is technologically a few hundred years behind, it could lead to some interesting situations (like refusing to work with the genetics department/cloners) Character Name:Sarecks Isti'a Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Hailing from the near-polar Janvir, Sarecks was one of many healers for the city, dealing with the injuries that accompany standard territorial disputes and the occasional band of malcontents. Old enough to remember the Contact War and subsequent issues that nuclear weapons wreaked on Moghes in detail, Isti'a finds herself disgusted with both the outside powers lacking the foresight or responsibility when doling out the tech that they did, and her own people's shear stubbornness and hypocrisy in dealing with such "gifts". After a short arranged marriage ending with her mate's premature death during the cultural shockwaves that the end of the Contact War brought, she decided to depart Janvir and make a trek to Skalamar, scraping along the best she could, offering her services to wary towns and unwelcoming clans along the way, in exchange for relatively safe passage, and scrounging whatever she could to keep going. While obviously an arduous and painful journey, just under 2 years after departing, she arrived at the center of the largest nation still in existence, and promptly sought passage off-world. Seeking an escape from the wounded Moghes, she sought work with the megacorps working on Ouere at first, doing all she could to gain citizenship on the colony. Continuing her early profession of healer, the colony enabled her better equipment and a somewhat less harsh environment. After nearly a decade of trying to integrate into Ouerean culture, she renewed her contract with NT, and opted for space travel. After serving abroad on various ship assignments, this displaced Unathi finds herself aboard the research vessel Aurora. What do you like about this character? While somewhat wary of any and every species from her world view, she is able to see merits in the individual and withhold too harsh of judgement until she sees one's actions. Also fairly levelheaded compared to a lot of Unathi. How would you rate your role-playing ability?I like to think I'm at least adequate in most respects. Notes:I do have a singular question, most other servers seem to have a massive gender divide when it comes to Unathi with an entirely male dominated society, I didn't see near as much about that in the lore section, so I assume it's present, but possibly not to the same extent? I wanted to ask to clear it up beforehand. And as always, I'm open for questions from anyone.
  4. I have no Focks to give! But I am terribly sorry. It's also nice to meet you. And thanks, I'm glad you like it!
  5. Like I said in the second edit of the reply post a few days ago, I had a moment of genius and was thinking the app was just to demonstrate you can reason out and explain what makes a good head, hence why I even put "No, this character wouldn't make a good head, too young+experience" and later said this one's a washout for an app as I'm not really planning on having Kurita as an HoS, but they were my only current character to use as an explanation. That being said and clarity of thought returning, I will re-write it for a new character that does qualify as a head. But should I just rewrite the opening post of this one, or make a new thread?
  6. To answer who I play so far, just Tanja Kurita, my Byond username is Focks in a Bocks, I just shortened it for the forums! Hey Jamini, it's been a while! And thank you four for the welcome!
  7. Hallu, I'm Focks in a Bocks. I started playing here recently and was just posting a little hello, and it's nice to meet you all...most of you anyway. As for myself, if you've got any questions feel free to ask, and hope to see you on the server!
  8. BYOND Key:Focks in a Bocks Character Names:Tanja Kurita How long have you been playing on Aurora:Sparely for a few months now, only regularly and frequently for the past 2 weeks Species you are applying to play:Tajara What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt):Timberwolf, which is a soft grey, with a hint of beige.(219,215,210) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?:Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race:I thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to play something different than human, and look at it as an avenue to be creative and create interesting roleplay opportunities. I also like the idea of the tajara being the "new kids on the block" and not necessarily being on the same level as the other species, on top of having the curve-ball of only being free for just over a single generation and having to contend with how they're going to proceed. I also think it makes you think outside the box, having to play within the limitations set out by the species, sure they have a tail, but they also have a tail, what happens if it gets caught in a door or broken, throwing them entirely off balance, for example. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human:Generally new comers to the galactic scene, since their discovery was a mere 40 years, ago, there would obviously still be a degree of misunderstanding from ignorance of customs and culture. Also dealing with a very unsteady relationship with government, having one of the old ruling clans in power with a human backed government makes for tension where there might not be. Also, my above point, having to take into consideration other factors and possibilities, like not being able to work in heavy gear too long for risk of overheating. Character Name:Hasna Rishat Please provide a short back-story for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Being the unlucky spawn between a Njarir and a M'sai, she unfortunately displays a number of traits associated with her Njarir ancestry, causing a level of disdain and abuse among her peers. Rishat was born off-world to Hikmat, who on the losing side of the rebellion, fled Ahdomai; and Arash a simple worker who was later drawn to the idea that there were ways to help rebuild off-world Soon after Hasna was born, the pair returned to their homeland, where Hikmat became a teacher. Coming from fairly humble beginnings Hasna was intensely curious about the world around her, less interested in the "hows" and "whys" of the rebuilding culture, but the new technologies flooding in from the furless visitors from the skies. Being lucky enough to have been raised literate, and located in a large enough city to observe the rapid advancement of technology, Hasna eventually began to look up, much as her parents before her, but with a different urgency than to escape turmoil. Her ideas of what should life should be like out in space obviously influenced by Nanotrasen, and knowing how easily new blood can be taken advantage of, Rishat gladly signed a contract with her would be benefactors. Her innate curiosity made her a good intern candidate for the science team, being fairly expendable and more than willing to deal with the danger to sate her curiosity. Though initially disappointed, as she didn't get to leave Adhomai; Hasna has progressed through 4 years of training and hard work, and graduated from a lowly intern to a full fledged member of NT science division, and is scheduled to ship out to her new post, finally seeing what lays waiting somewhere in the heavens. What do you like about this character? She's excitable, mild-mannered, friendly, and while easy to step on has a lot of endurance and hope. How would you rate your role-playing ability? As I said in my other whitelist application, I find others opinions on this of greater importance, but I believe myself more than capable of playing any of the alien races well. Notes:Feel free to ask any questions, or if I missed something. This time I luckily found the entire app before posting!
  9. I'm an idiot. I just checked, when I copied it over, I didn't see the scrollbar, so only got the first 1/4 of it maybe? I apologize. Give me a moment to fix that. Edit:It's now been fixed, I believe I got all the questions answered! Edit No. 2: I sort of realized after I did this app while I was laying down to sleep, this is for individual characters being considered for command, or having a pre-built character for it, not just going through a character of one's in detail and describing if they're fit or not for Head duty, so I believe this one's a washout of an app. Sorry!
  10. BYOND key:Focks in a Bocks Character names:Tanja Kurita How long have you been playing on Aurora?:Regularly for 2 weeks now Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?:I enjoy being a helpful lead that trying to involve the department and guide it without being overly involved and trying to do everyone's job for them. Why did you come to Aurora?:I came to Aurora to try a new heavy RP server, I've been playing SS13 for years, and recently migrated from BS12. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?:Yes Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I think roleplay is dropping yourself into the shoes of a character you've made. Trying to make interesting interactions with others, and to tell a story through a different medium that others can influence. I think it should be about making things enjoyable for both yourself and others, and in a way that flows well, having conflict when necessary, resolution to make things satisfying, and most of all, to have fun! It's only what you make of it after all. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: I feel that it's mainly to help co-ordinate RP between departments and acclimatize new players either to that department or to SS13 in general to the department, and to help keep things interesting for the department itself, while being a voice of reason. Also to take responsibility for the actions of their department and to keep an eye on things. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?:Elaborating on my earlier point, I think part of the role of a head is to help make the department interesting for their "employees" and keep them actively engaged in the round through various means. I think that someone who's a head of staff should consider the other players motives and feelings before making decisions that effect the whole department, and to be a peacekeeper between players. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Yua Mizushima Character age: 33 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs):Being the eldest of 3 children and having a rather boring childhood to colonists on a moon who's main industry was mining, which did initially spark her interest in the sciences. After high-school, she applied to the Ganymede Institute of Physical Sciences' Inorganic Chemistry program, but ended up switching majors to Macro Xenobiology, and minoring in chemistry. She finished her degree with an internship at Shumway Biotech, helping map out neural pathways of Unathi to help develop better prosthesis and generally reach a better understanding of those few who leave Moghes to pursue a career with the major corps. After finishing her internship and having a PhD and 2 years as a lab assistant under her belt, she moves on to Solar Nanosystems, working with various engineers and designers to try and design new, safer containers for plasma. Though the plasma containment project yields no major advancements in containing and working with the material, it none the less was valuable experience working with the caustic substance. At 29, Yua first started working for Nanotrasen aboard the NSS Apus, once again working working with her Xenobiology degree. Working with the department responsible for volatile xenobiological organisms, her team primarily dealing with pluurs, slug like creatures that excrete corrosive fluids in defense. Finding the methods of handling tended to cause them to burn holes in the plating and equipment, she quickly went about using what experience with design she had to get in contact with the engineering department to help re-enforce the holding cells and develop a more thorough safety procedure. The project meeting with great approval afforded her as manager for the "slug" team. After four years of service aboard the Apus, she decided to use her temporary rise in position as a stepping stone, and has since applied to the Aurora for the Research Director's slot. What do you like about this character?:Yua is very much a kind individual and likes to help others, and is thoroughly interested in the department and each of it's workers. What do you dislike about this character?:Being she's a generally nice person, it takes very high grievances to cause her to retaliate if it's personal, which can be frustrating with dealing with irate crew-members who will toe the line. Do you think this character is fit to be a Head of Staff?: Yes Why?:Being both a people person and someone who likes to help others, I think that makes her a good diplomat to the department; as well as making her good at doling out the work in a fair manner and keeping track of underlings. With RD this is especially important as most of the sub-departments have limited involvement with each other except for specific circumstances. It also means she's more than willing to lay off the reigns and let the sub-departments handle their day to day work without muddling in their affairs. Please provide well articulated and argumented answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I honestly feel this to be a skewed question, while I do think I generally roleplay very well, I think that the opinions of others weigh more heavily on a decision like this, and to sell myself short would be sabotage, as would exaggeration or overconfidence in my own ability. But I'd love to hear the opinions of others on how I do! Extra notes: I've been playing on other RP servers for quite some time, Baystation 12 for longer than 3 years, and was even a moderator for a year, so I feel I'm very acclimated to a heavy demand RP environment and understand what's expected of someone who plays a head of staff. I played an RD named Yua Mizushima that was generally well liked and accepted as one of the better Directors around, though I realize well liked on another server only counts for so much, I've never been banned from any RP server I've played on and think that speaks well of my characters.
