  1. That's perfectly fine. I don't expect to get it right away without some proof. Just letting you all know I'm out to get it
  2. BYOND key: Arrowhead154 Character names: Patton Clarks, Nolland Manders, Basil Nollins, Valni Ma'ine, Alzane Kla'ahd How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I've been around for quite some time, but never actively played on Aurora until about 4 days ago.[/b] Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: My favorites are Head of Personnel and Head of Security, but I'll be going for Captain in this forum post.[/b] Why did you come to Aurora?: I took about a year off from playing SS13 due to education purposes and lack of time. But now that I have all of this under control again, I find myself drawn to roleplaying in SS13 once more. Have you read the Aurora wiki on the head roles and qualifications you plan on playing?: Every post. I don't have them memorized, but I have read them thoroughly and I SHOULD know enough to not be hindered by lack of knowledge. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: It should be fun and engaging. Bottom line. To achieve this, you need though, you need a few more things. These things revolve around community, friendships, and other various forms of communication. If there's a healthy and well respected balance of all of these, then the chances of the roleplay ending horribly with feelings hurt is drastically reduced. And with do's, there are always dont's. Roleplay is not about being the victor whether good or bad, it's about interaction and how you can keep the story going without needing to remove any other assets or characters. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To keep the game interesting. Bossing around others is fun and all, but really, a good head of staff keeps his department going functioning right by handing it off to his workers. It's the head of staff's job to give his workers, the other players, something to do and encourage and teach them based on their own knowledge of the game and just roleplaying in general. The job of the Head of Staff is to enhance the overall standards of the round without taking the fun out of interacting with others. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: To have a whitelist is to have the bar raised in roleplaying and in OOC interactions. If you have a whitelist, you're held responsible for acting respectably towards others OOC'ly and to help those who lack and don't meet the standards of good roleplaying. It's constructive criticism and not telling someone they suck at roleplaying and leaving it at that. It's telling them where they can improve and how they should improve and let the player grow without you having to babysit them. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Patton Clarks Character age: 34 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): It started out as a boring shift. The bartender was casually attending to his drinks and the few customers that strolled inside, ordered, and left. His assistant was the only customer that remained in the bar the whole time. The bartender shuffled his cards and passed out a few to himself and his assistant before placing the rest of the deck on the counter-top. “So, sir, um…” The young assistant stumbled. “How long would I have to work here before I reached the rank of Captain?” “You want to aim for Captain, huh?” The bartender chuckled. “Well, the rank of Captain is not easily obtained. There’s so much knowledge that you have to know about the station itself along with all of its departments… It’s not an easy job to fill.” The assistant sighed. “Yeah, I figured as much.” He placed the queen of hearts on the counter-top and drew. “You never know, stick with the station long enough, and you could find yourself becoming Captain one day.” The bartender placed the two of hearts on the counter-top and drew. The door to the bar opened again and a man, possibly in his mid forties, according to the assistant, walked in. He had a graying rough beard and a neat, well-cut, hair style. He walked with dignity and power and his smile brightened up the room as he walked up behind the assistant and clapped him on the back. “Got a new assistant, I see. Congratulations.” He said to the bartender, taking a seat next to the assistant. “You know how assistants can be, sir.” The bartender and the man let out a hearty laugh. “But, I have to say, I’m warming up to this one.” The assistant eyeballed the bartender and the new customer before playing a six of diamonds and drawing another card. The bartender quickly threw down an ace of diamonds and drew before laying his hand face down on the countertop. “What can I get for you, sir?” “Just a water with ice. I can’t be loopy on the job, you know.” The bartender cracked a smile before making an iced water. “So how was your time with the miners? They excavate anything good out there yet?” The bartender asked, making the assistant mentally question if this guy was a miner. “They found a few resources, but nothing substantial yet. Some of them are just lazy and don’t want to do their job, and you know what that means…” “A few of them are not going to be happy.” The bartender commented as he set the empty glass inside the machine and punched the “water” and “ice” buttons. “Nope. Reminds me of our first time on the station.” The man said glancing at the assistant. “I remember you and I played laser tag and then we almost got fired because we accidently shot the Head of Security.” The man laughed. “That was fun, though.” The bartender gave a nod of agreement. “Here you go.” The bartender replied setting the water on the table. “I remember your time in medical. You were the worst medic they ever saw. They had to get the Head of Personnelle at the time to get you transferred to cargo so medical could work. And that was your first time in medical! It took you a good three months to get yourself re-assigned again.” The bartender laughed heartily. “But, I guess with enough training and time, anyone can be taught.” “Ain’t that the truth!” The man raised his glass before taking a drink. The assistant played a four of hearts as the bartender gathered his hand back up. The man leaned in close to look at the assistant’s cards on the table. “Hm...A queen, a six, and a four. A perfect twenty pointer. Can you tie that?” He asked, with a raised eyebrow, to the bartender. The bartender gave a slight glare to the assistant before shaking his head. “I can go over and back under, but not tie it. He beat me.” “So, what’s the score then?” “It’s the first time I’ve ever played this game…” The assistant replied. “I guess, I’m just lucky.” "You definitely are, young man. What's your name, anyways?" He asked, stroking his beard. "Patton Clarks, sir." Patton said somewhat hesitantly. Without a beat missed, the station went on alert due to a nearing electrical storm. The strange man quickly, tapped his headset. “This is Captain Caleb Brycen, keep calm and prepare for a meteor shower.” The assistant’s eyes went big as he realized who this man was. “Michael, get your engineers suited up for electrical malfunctions. Aaron, get your medics for quick responses to any injuries. Ryan, I want security patrolling the hallways to keep all robotics under control.” Captain Brycen quickly stood up and bolted for the door. He stopped short as the door opened for him. “Before I leave for a while, I would now like to order an alcoholic drink. But first, I have to keep the station stable.” And those were his last words before he was out the door. Mr. Clarks just sat on the bar stool for a moment, in silence. “Yep, that’s our Captain.” The bartender chuckled as he took the nearly empty glass of water off the counter and started washing it. “He has one tough job… But he knows his job and he does it well. And with your luck, you can probably be just as good, if not better than he is one day.” The young assistant shifted in his chair with a slight smile. “So...when can I start?” What do you like about this character?: He's a visionary of sorts. He wants to keep the station running and to give his company a good reputation and money. What do you dislike about this character?: He's too calm in times of conflict. When push comes to shove, he is very much a push-over who would rather negotiate than pull the trigger. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Due to his calmness, he's able to process the situation at large and handle macro situations with ease. He's suited for the role of Captaincy and Head of Security so long as a violent threat of weaponry doesn't come at him directly. Killing is not in his actions. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: 7/10. I'm no where near professional level, but I have always enjoyed roleplaying and want to be better at it. I'm also experienced having roleplayed in more than one place for over 4 years now. Extra notes: I know I'm new to Aurora, but I'm no stranger to roleplaying! I'd love the opportunity to play as a Head of Staff and help out new players as well as make the game interesting! Thanks for reading, let me know if there are any problems and I will most certainly fix them!
  3. Noted. I'll be sure to study up on Auroran (Aurorian?) lore and then give this another shot. Thank you for the help ^_^
  4. Well, crap... Didn't think I'd butcher it that badly my first go lol. Alright, can I ask for a list of things that aren't lore friendly/need to be change because it's awfully wrong?
  5. BYOND Key: Arrowhead154 Character Name: Nolland Manders, Cliff Polon, Heath Grays How long have you been playing on Aurora: 2 days ago, played at least 3 hours on aurora for both days. Species applying for: Tajaran Color: Light Grey with Dark Grey hair Have I read the lore section: Not Aurora's specifically, but I have read the general lore on Tajarans Why play this specific race: I wish to play this race because I enjoy building on characters that are different. Being a human is fun, but I enjoy trying to be something that I am not. I enjoy challenges, and playing different races can be challenging if done right. How is playing this race different playing a human: I personally think that playing a different race, and playing it well, is more difficult than playing just a standard human. I have also noticed that other races do not get the luxury of "human advantage" on the station. What I mean by that is that the station is built for humans, not for other races (example: space suit fitting, gloves, shoes, etc). Small details that can be overcome, but, in the middle of a round when everything happens at once, other races don't have these advantages. I also enjoy interacting with others as something other than a human, but is still considered an organism (not cyborgs or pAI's). ----------------------------------------------------- Character Name: Alzane Kla'ahd Please provide a short back-story for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Being raised on a Tajaran trading vessel was boring for Alzane. His early years consisted of loading supplies, waiting, and unloading supplies. But one day, the trading vessel took on another occupant who went by the name of Thomas Notchered. A human, but one that could speak enough Siik'mas to be the Tajaran vessel's engineer. Alzane was fascinated by him and the two different races quickly became friends. The friendship blossomed to the point where Mr. Notchered was teaching Alzane basic English. Alzane's parents soon took notice of their son's new friend and eventually became friends with him well. Thomas had a strong influence on both Alzane and his parents. To Alzane, Thomas was more than a friend, he was family. And that included anyone like him. A few years went by with good sales for Alzane and his parents. Things were looking up until one day Alzane's father retired from his life of barter and trade. This meant that Alzane and his parents were going to settle down and leave the trading vessel. And to Alzane, that meant leaving Thomas. With sad mews and gloomy thoughts, Alzane said farewell to his only and greatest friend. To Alzane's shock, he and his family settled down on a small planet mainly inhabited by humans. It is here that Alzane became properly taught on human interaction and speech. After years of studying humans and their ways of life, Alzane was old enough to leave and make a life of his own wherever he could. Alzane eventually made his way and found a job as a security officer for a small business corporation. His patrols reminded him of his childhood and the long waits. But it also brought back the memories of Thomas. Alzane did not stay long at the small business, instead, he set his sights on the stars and planned on leaving his small planet. Was it to hopefully find Thomas again? Was it to escape his boredom with waiting? Alzane wish he knew the right answer. He did know; however, that he was leaving. And that was all he needed. What do you like about this character? Alzane is a very gloomy character, which is different that most of my other characters. He's interesting because he's always looking for reasons. He's no scholar, but hopes to find answers. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I don't actually know... I have my "off-days" and then I have my "I'm the star of the show" days... 5/10 maybe? Notes: Yes, I've played Tajaran before so I know what I'm asking for. Also, any feedback on the story would be nice. I'm always looking to improve my writing (because I suck at it).
