  1. ((Heya! I thought I'd write this piece for a character I haven't played much at all yet - granted that I started over on my chars relatively recently, so many haven't seen much play time. Before I get into story-ing, I'd just like to note that the formatting and robot technobabble is largely based off of Synnono's "Hello, World" story piece which anyone who's reading this and hasn't seen that should totally check out cuz it's awesome. (We need MORE)! Without further ado, let's begin!)) June 19th, 2450 - Prodigy AC-7 Logs [15:32.45.982] - Prodigy A intelligence bootup started. [16:13:06.581] - Prodigy entity Prodigy AC-7 initial startup complete. Hello world. END OF LOG: June 19th, 2450 One of the lights in the lab was flickering - it had been bugging him for the last two days, but he never had the time to finish it. In a room where the walls, floors - everything - was white, the flickering made little difference, but Alexander was the kind of man who despised the slightest discrepancy when reality was compared to the norm. Beside him, the computer whirred quietly, five little progress bars gradually filling up with purple colour. He drummed his fingers along the edges of the desk, humming quietly to himself as the bars hit 75%, then 80%. He pulled out his PDA with a sigh, flicking through the pages of useless notifications and spam mail, dismissing it all one by one. Then, after the clutter (another thing which drove him to the edge of insanity) was gone, he spared the time to glance up at the time: 15:57. So close - he was so close. For ten years he had been running this operation, investigating the nuances of AIs and their development process - how personality was affected by neural structure, how the composition of a network could change the way an AI developed and taught itself. The Prodigy A program focused on the latter, instead of allowing the AIs to develop at an accelerated , but unchanging or influenced, rate, the AIs were capped at a certain form of animal life. This was the project he cared about, the Prodigy A program was what he had been working up to his entire life - and the first AI he had personally overseen was about to come online - it was a good day, as long as he ignored the pulsating light clinging to the wall above his head. Minutes passed, the computer buzzed and hummed quietly as it went through the workings of generating hundreds of thousands of intelligences, wiring them together to form artificial synapses, creating an AI that would eventually be equal to - or perhaps even exceed - human intelligence levels. The Prodigy project had been his pipe dream from his childhood, and now it was coming to fruition, Alexander was getting old and he feared that he might not see the entire A program through...but this one AI, he would make sure it was his best - he would make sure that all the trouble, all the many years preparing, were worth it. The computer pinged. Alexander looked up. Two words were displayed: Hello world.
  2. Cool guy in and out of character with a well written app, not much more to say than that. +1
  3. BYOND Key:IHasYourNoms Character Names: One Who Aids The Saplings, Leaves That Clense Flesh, Kara, Nova, Elisa, Sarah Bluegate, Emma Blackwell (Note that I haven't been active on the server recently, and as such many may not recognize the characters.) Species you are applying to play: Vaurca What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Black Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I wish to play as a Vaurca because I find their lore intriguing, especially the difference between a Bound and Unbound version of said race. This could create some interesting roleplay situations, be it a Bound Vaurca practically falling at the feet of an Unbound one, or a Bound Vaurca being subject to a lot of confusion due to its distinct lack of care about pain. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Whereas a human has had all its life to become acclimated to having a free will, many Vaurca aren't used to this and have varied feelings about the differences. For example, a Bound Vaurca would simply do as anyone above it tells it to do, and to the best of its ability, an Unbound Vaurca might do the bare minimum and a human might refuse to do anything at all. Alongside this, a Bound Vaurca could quite commonly become confused by any sort of panic about pain, namely due to the fact that they simply do not fear (nor care) about it. Character Name: Za'Viax'Akiith Zo'ra Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Akiith is a Bound Vaurca from the Zo'ra 'hive' and as such, has lived a relatively bland life up until this point. Previously, he was exploited for his rather deft hands and used as a basic medic when the need arose, he always served without question (of course, as a Bound Vaurca he was unable to question). He was recently selected to be a token of good faith by the Zo'ra, packed up and sent off to the NSS Aurora like one would send a tool or birthday present. He was recieved by NanoTrasen, explaining that it "was the will of the hive" that he be used as a token of the hive's appreciation. When questioned about the manner of his transportation, he showed no distaste, simply replying with "It was the will of the hive." In fact, that seemed to be his go-to response when questioned on any of his personal preferences or qualms about life as a Vaurca. Though he did not detail where he was to be placed on the station, it was quickly discovered that he had an aptitude for the job of a general medic, or medical intern. What do you like about this character? I like that Akiith is (as most Bound are) rather different to any other races, even though some cannot feel emotions he simply has no sense of preference. If you told him to do something, he would do it without a single doubt in his mind and this is what makes him an intriguing character to RP as. Though, he does show opportunities to develop, perhaps developing the closest thing a Bound Vaurca can to a friendship with one member of the crew, also giving the possibility for awkward encounters in which Akiith blatantly shows that he has no idea how to act friendly. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would rate my role-playing ability as relatively good, I don't break character in IC chat and try my best to steer away from LOOC/OOC chatting during play. Though, I cannot avoid the occasional spelling mistake which breaks immersion. Notes: I shall be away on holidays from 29/03/16, so don't expect to see me around from then until 01/04/16 at the earliest.
  4. BYOND Key: IHasYourNoms Character Names: Kara Nova Elisa Sarah Bluegate Emma Blackwell Species you are applying to play: Dionaea/Diona What colour do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea and IPCs exempt): N/A Have you read our lore section's page on this species: Yes I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race? I would like to play as a Dionaea because of the way they think. Unlike many other species, Dionaea are made up of different "personalities" which makes them an extremely interesting type of character to design and play as. I also feel that not many people play as a Dionaea and it would be interesting to be one of a few, or the only of that species on the station at one time. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Role-playing a Dionaea is very different to a human due to not only their in-built mechanics (for example: needing to stay out of the dark) but also that (as I mentioned previously) the way they are made up of multiple different intelligences which almost come together to make the person you play as. I find this an interesting prospect and will lead to interesting scenarios, however, it may also be smaller things such as referring to itself as "we" rather than "I". Character Name: Leaves That Cleanse The Flesh Please provide a short backstory of your character (approximately 2 paragraphs):This character is still a fairly young Diona, by their standards. He is fairly new to large groups of humans, as he mainly spent his time in secluded human colonies before this. Over his time he learnt different medical trades, mainly focusing on said trades without much of an interest in anything else. However, he does occasionally take an interest in science. Other than that, however, he does not show interest beyond medical expertise. The character has a few different personalities which come through, most of the time it is one personality formed of the different intelligences contained within him but it is not odd for him to change moods and/or figures of speech randomly due to these different intelligences. In some cases he is quiet, polite and thoughtful and then in others he is cold-hearted and ruthless. However, the most common personality to show is a calm and respectful character, with occasional witty comments to show through. The former two personalities are not the only two changes possible but are the most common if he is not his normal self. What do you like about this character?I like the idea that my character changes personalities occasionally, but even when he has not he provides witty humor without being so "funny" that he becomes distracted from his work and puts off other members of the crew. He can be funny and a good friend when needed, but also particularly calm and focused when that demeanor is needed. How would you rate your roleplaying ability? I would rate my roleplaying fairly well, I almost never break character and am fairly good at using appropriate language for my character. However, spelling mistakes are a common problem which can occasionally break immersion for me and others. Notes: EDIT: Simply would like to inform you that I'll be offline for the next 2-4 days because of multiple things, the main being a short trip away from home. (As of 21/08/15)
  5. Byond Key: IHasYourNoms Character Names: Sarah Bluegate Emma Blackwell pAI/AI - Kara Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character N/A I have read the lore section on IPC's Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I find the IPC "race" rather interesting as it can often have a roleplaying style of an AI or Cyborg, but allows you to be a normal member of the crew. I also find the fact that IPC's can have fake "skin" interesting and this could possibly open up many different roleplaying scenarios. This could be an IPC "neglecting" to tell the crew it is in fact synthetic and then being revealed, or something along those lines. I find this idea or the idea of being almost "looked down upon" by the crew quite intriguing. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Roleplaying this character is rather different to a human as it requires a certain degree of thinking as to what you say. This could be that your character is more akin to an AI than a pAI lacking the nuances of human speech and using more scientific/technical terms when speaking or referring to itself as "this unit" or "it". However, it could also be that the character is very similar to humans in the way it emulates emotions but is submissive to the humans, accepting that it is a robotic "slave" or "worker" and being quiet and/or scared around organic species. Character Name: Kara Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs: Kara is a preset Nanotrasen personality, used for both pAI's and AI's. "She" is often cheerful, and friendly towards humans. Not acting afraid, but also not acting too big headed around them. She was brought into commission a few months ago as a popular personality for human crew. She commonly manipulates colloquialisms when speaking and is more of a "friend" than a servant. She hasn't really had much of a past life due to the fact she is routinely wiped in order to prevent personal attachment to former "masters" or crew members. It was not until she found an IPC unit as her master that she began to think about what it would be like to be a fully-fledged crew member. She quickly submitted a request to "CentCom" asking for a personality transfer into an IPC unit. Of course, she would not change her name in any way and would simply be her normal self but in an IPC unit as a crew member. She does not deny that not having a memory wipe every shift was a big temptation but that is not the only reason. What do you like about this character? I like Kara because I have played her before as a pAI and AI and she is a familiar character to roleplay. She is often sarcastic and/or witty and will frequently make comments on the current situation which are often met with "not the time" or "really?" making her rather entertaining to play. She certainly has got a darker side though, often descending into anger or panic when met with death; attempting to keep the crew calm but commonly failing to do so.[/b} How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would rate my roleplaying ability as respectable, I'm not particularly great however I never come out of role unless I accidentally say an LOOC message in IC chat. This happens a lot however, and I will often make spelling mistakes. Notes: I will be offline for the next two weeks due to a family holiday, and have not been online for a few months so many will probably not have seen my first two characters around though some will know my pAI character. Time of writing this note is 23/07/15
