  1. 1. Corpselight I believe would try to see the meaning in this in a religious sense; they saw the Horizon as an omen from the Eternal, so the Horizon's mission must ergo also be. They might grapple between a sense of it being a message that they should return to their people and stay within the Sea, or perhaps that their presence on the Horizon is needed so that the Horizon can perform whatever task the Eternal wishes it to perform. How I see it and would try to roleplay it is a pilgrim who believes they have been sent out by their god to explore the world, only to find that their god wishes them to bring the people they've met on their journey back home. 2. I believe there would be a period of learning to simply try to avoid people identifying them as a member of the Celestial Creed. In my mind most Assunzioni would treat them akin to the Untouchable caste in Hinduism upon finding out their origins; or worse. One of the simpler tells that Corpselight would overcome would be avoidance of the blinding lamps that bathe the dome-cities in light, the fact that most of Assunzioni would likely see them as a pirate if they did figure out his origin would make even basic social interactions difficult. In my mind this would result in Corpselight taking the jobs and tasks no one wished to do for pittances, until they could afford the tuition of the college; at which point I would imagine those interested in learning about aliens would be more open-minded towards them. I don't think I would have Corpselight be exposed to actual violence from the Assunzioni, but run into a few situations where it's clear that violence was able, or about to occur. Walking down metaphorical dark alleys and such; or being taken advantage of in ways that would be self-apparent to people familiar with human society, but not to Corpselight. What they would learn from their time on Assunzioni at its core would be that temporals are frightened and paranoid; and that the best way to meet the suspicion of others is with an open grasper and a submissive tone. They would also learn, perhaps most importantly, how to lie - not just large lies like "No I /never/ was one of those that attacked one of your people's vessels." but small ones, simple white lies to put people at ease "The color of your hair is pleasing, is it a novel choice?" and so on. 3. The Primitive Sirens of Mictlan confuse Corpselight on a fundamental level, their credo of denying advanced technology and settling on a single planet are anathema to what Corpselight would consider a 'good way of life' for any given Dionae. More broadly of the more traditional schools of thought about the Eternal, they would disagree with the Iron Eternal, though Corpselight holds no particular dislike towards robotics, they believe it is a dead-end, and true progress and communion with the Eternal can only be found through exploring ones own capabilities, not the capabilities of Korun (the fact this is mildly hypocritical is not something Corpselight has examined, given their focus on the study of evolution and genetic advancement.) As to non-Dionae, I believe they would find the Empire of Dominia the most puzzling of the temporal groups they've heard of, their perspective on humanity is one of disorganization, and love of that disorganization and the freedom it brings, the fact that the Empire is ruled by an Emperor, and many of its people seemingly happy with the situation, would be a puzzle Corpselight still has to reconcile by the time they reach the Horizon.
  2. BYOND Ckey: skane10634 Discord username: Skane Character names: Ka’Akaix’Kliksi K’lax, Ka’Akaix’Hixur K’lax, Sargon Naram Species you are applying to play: Dionae ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: Darker bark. Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: There’s a particular appeal to me in the alien mindset of the Dionae, their blending of alien cultures into their own and the way their bodies work so distinctly from other species. The fact that they can live for so long that things they wish to accomplish become less of a question of ‘if’ but ‘when’. All these are things that piqued my interest with the Dionae. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: I think of Dionae almost like a miniature vessel; there may be a captain steering the thing but it's composed of a crew of nymphs who have come together. They can split those ‘crew-members’ off as needed, they get sustenance from radiation and light, it would be shorter to list what makes them like humans. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Corpselight of a Long Dead Star Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. When light reaches a new place, darkness is already there, patiently awaiting its arrival. ‘Corpselight of a Long Dead Star’ formed from the Celestial Creed of Explorers in 2398, twenty years after the Rueltab titan’s death-scream, and burned to know how the world worked, and more importantly, why. Learning to walk in such a time was to walk in the not-light cast by the Blackhole, the ship they were born on, orbited, to see by speaking, to learn by singing. Time spent at the proverbial foot of a Geras taught him science, and the worship of the Eternal as that which is not known; the darkness beyond perception that resides in places without stars. Corpselight grew, and learned, to twist biomass into new shapes, to learn of the biology of the xenofauna that drifted through the not-light of the Lemurian Sea. With time came knowledge, and Corpselight posited that if the Eternal was everything that is beyond perception, then when one has learned all that can be perceived, the only thing that will remain is the Eternal. In order to perceive this theory, Corpselight left the cluster to Assunzione, where they learned the speech of humanity and saved credits until they could afford to attend Makarsa University to receive in time, a doctorate in Xenobiology (their dissertation being on the migration patterns of Space Carp). They planned to travel the galaxy and to learn all that they needed to learn, but it seemed to Corpselight that much of what they needed could be found on Assunzione alone. Until they heard of the Horizon, the name alone a message from the Eternal; for what is a Horizon if not the border-state between light and dark? A short while later they had signed a contract with Zeng-Hu and transferred to the Horizon. How has the recent events of the Orion Spur impacted your character? Events such as the Phoron Scarcity, the Solarian Collapse or even the Invasions of Biesel for interstellar-wide affairs, while region-specific events such as the Peacekeeper Mandate, The Titan Rises or even Cold Dawn may impact your character. Corpselight views events such as the Invasion of Biesel and the Solarian Collapse with a detached concern, their goal of learning all that can be learned can only be impeded by societal collapse and the destruction of knowledge that always comes with invasion. And wonders how this might impact their status within the Coalitions should conflict continue to occur as seems to be the case. The Phoron Crisis is less of a concern to them, they have faith that their mission will not be hampered so directly as to be on a vessel that would be stranded and in lack of the Phoron it needs to traverse space. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? They view Zeng-Hu with a sort of detached understanding, they do not like or dislike them; Corpselight is using them to be onboard the Horizon and learn all that they can. And they believe that Zeng-Hu is using them to have access to their findings and another useful tool on the Horizon. Other: Mindtype is Scholarly Song
  3. BYOND Ckey: (Your BYOND ckey: skane10634 (i think) Discord username: (Your Discord username): Skane Character names: Zheng Fang, Sargon Naram, Marcela Berrocal Species you are applying to play: Vaurca Bulwark ------------------------------ General Whitelist Requirements What colour do you plan on making your first alien character?: (IPCs exempt: (RGB 98, 115, 😎 Have you read the lore pages for the species you wish to be whitelisted for?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this species?: The hive nature of the Vaurca really interests me, it makes them distinct from baseline humanity in a way I really find appealing. Their dependency on Phoron with the Phoron scarcity also makes them have very interesting needs as compared to the other species, especially when/if Phoron becomes scarce on the Horizon. In particular with regards to the Hives I enjoy K’lax, more specifically the Princess of Configurations. Their focus on opposing the Lii’dra and further work on making the K’lax superior to them pair well with the Bulwark being a newer form of Vaurca. What makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a human?: Vaurca are loyal to their hive; biologically, it makes things such as treachery not only a social anomaly, but a physical one. They’re unfamiliar with the idea of competitiveness (at least as far as sports and personal competition is concerned, hive pride is another matter), and are naturally cooperative for the sake of achieving their goals. The guaranteed (VR) afterlife of the Vaurca (assuming their socket is recovered) also means that they have a comfort around the death of themselves and their own kind that is not shared with their alien friends. There’s no isolation from one another due to the Hivenet and VR as well; no Vaurca is ever truly alone. And with one's caste being given to them from birth, there is no confusion about what one's role in society is; which is a huge departure from humanity. Their deep shame about their own evolution is a huge difference as compared to humanity, or say the Skrell. Any references to trophallaxis and pre-augment society being particular taboos with regards to them. More broadly their, I hesitate to say obsession but obsession with VR is something to have a Vaurca adjust to. One cannot spend all their time in virtual reality when there is work to be done on a vessel, and being exposed to other culture’s media is also something to learn and enjoy. But unlike humans, even if a Vaurca is working extensively, it's natural for them to find joy in doing their allotted task. ------------------------------ Character Application Character Name: Ra'Akaix'Kliksi K'lax Write a backstory for your character. This may include their origin, education, personality and how they arrived to the SCCV Horizon. Kliksi was spawned five years on Tret to the Vedhran brood in response to a growing need for workers on the Neutron Forge who can easily handle the radiation and make use of critical thinking skills in regards to any unexpected issues that might arise from the experimental project. Already a bulwark, experimental Vedhran implants were placed into Kliksi to dampen the effects of the intense Gamma radiation released by the Neutron Forge on their augmetics. On the Neutron Forge Kliksi’s Unathi coworkers often assigned them the more dangerous tasks; which Kliksi was happy to do, entirely oblivious to the fact they were assigning them out of a sense of disgust and loathing for the Vaurca. It was only when the Phoron Crisis caused a mass slashing of staffing for the Forge that Kliksi was reassigned to the Horizon. Personality wise Kliksi is a staunch Preimminent, believing that their role is to learn as much as they can of as many technologies as they can for their Hive, and that it is the Lii’dra’s role to be defeated by the K’lax. More personally he is a relentlessly curious individual who is sometimes ignorant of how his bulk can intimidate other species, preferring to be up close and personal when speaking to people. His free time is largely spent in virtual reality engaging in theoretical constructions, but he is starting to be interested in human holovids. The main two events that have impacted my character would probably be the Phoron Scarcity crisis, the War in Heaven, and the Hephaestus move into the Izweki Hegemony. The replacement of Izweki guilds with Hephaestus backed corporations directly benefits the K’lax, and is good news for Kliksi. The Phoron Scarcity crisis is impactful in that it is what forced Kliksi to stop working at the Neutron Forge and move elsewhere, in theory if it ends somehow they would try to transfer back, unless they grow attached to the Horizon in their time there. The War in Heaven is obviously the most impactful, as Kliksi is a member of K’lax. Though their brood is not directly involved, and Kliksi personally believes that Vedhra would be the superior High Queen. How does your character view the megacorporation they work for? Kliksi views Hephaestus Industries as a benevolent figure; contrasting their eager desire to employ the Vaurca, contrasted against the distaste the Sinta seem to levy against the brood of Vedhra in particular. In lieu of an actual stance as presented by Kilksi’s queen, they will continue to view them in a positive light. Other: Politically aligns with Za’Akaix’Zumok K’lax
