  1. BYOND Key: InquisitorJohn Total Ban Length: 4320 minutes, a week and half a day. Banning staff member's Key: Garnascus Reason of Ban: "Gross escalation of force with carbine, meta-gaming antag behaviour from cultists, firing lethals on officer arresting you, after you were released in the hallway without any RP." Reason for Appeal: To begin with, I'm not particularly happy at this ban. Something I should explain first, and that I'm already expecting to not be believed is that during my conversation with Garnascus to justify the whole RP situation, I experienced a black-out. I used my phone to contact a player to contact Garnascus so he may know what was happening, and I was told that Garnascus would have to finish his investigation. Thus, without waiting, PMing via forums or anything in particular, I was banned without allowing me to explain my side of the story. Now, moving on to the story itself, in chronological order. Back in that Cult round, I was the Warden. Firstly, a cultist was brought in to Processing while I was handling a whiny inmate. I did not pay attention to the situation in Processing, other than the reports of two players being freaked out by the cultist. After a moment, some chatting here and there with the cultist, he decided to do the wonderful act of spawning a ghost. The ghost, of the CMO to be precise, walked out of Processing and past my character - and thus he noticed. He walked to processing and escorted the two freaked players out, with the report of the AI explaining the ghost as some sort of hologram. Mister X, the offended party in this situation, was inquiring to the cultist about his powers and such while I watched. After some conversation here and there, the cultist's eyes glowing blue and rune-spawning like a freak, the cultist invited X to step on the magical rune that made his eyes glow and such. My character tried to warn X against it, but was not listened to. After X experiencing motor spasms and whatnot - as I were informed, they were motor spams rather than writhes in pain - my character frowned and tried to inquire about this cultist. My character warned the cultist to erase the blood-letters that made his eyes glow and whatnot, and to stop spawning the 'holograms' out of thin air, which he didn't cease to. After several warnings to the cultist, my character became not only annoyed and angered, but freaked out. As soon as he walked for the armoury to supply himself with an energy carbine as precaution (unlawful or not, code green, blue, red, delta or whatever floats your boat, it was solely an IC action based off my character's emotions and situation, and I'm pretty aware of it). Officer X immediately followed up to my character as soon as he hinted implicitly he'd be going for the armoury, and even tried to slither in behind him despite not having any sort of access (the door's lights flashed red after I closed them, saw that very clearly). Once armed, I returned back to processing, where another ghost and rune were awaiting. With a cadet my character is very fond of, X and a scientist that god knows why was there, were watching, I began to tell the cultist to force the 'hologram' to disappear and erase the rune, which he refused to once again. My character grew aggressive in speech, carbine out and on lethals. No aim was raised, no shots were fired, no threats were spoken. After ordering the cultist to explain all of that several times aggressively, Officer X rushed in with his taser and began opening fire on me, for which I with lethals already set, returned fire. I was tased, couldn't prevent that. The cadet took my carbine and Rawhide cuffed me and took me right for the cells. He stuffed my items in the locker and set my in jail for 27 minutes. I asked for allowance to communal, which was opened. As soon as I went into communal, the cultist was freed and he gathered up with X and the scientist. They began talking about swords and handing each other some, which I explicitly saw through Communals and Cell's window, and heard - not to mention the AI also reported X carrying a sword around. Once in Communals, my character entered some sort of depressive state. The cadet he liked entered communals and pleaded for him to escape with her, for which he refused, calling her a "treacherous fuck" for not having stopped X. Regardless, the cadet stuck beside him. Eventually, after attacking X once with a chair to get more time in Communals (already imprisoned when attacking X), X left the Brig, leaving the cadet and my character alone. After a discussion, they both agreed on breaking my character out. He was handed the carbine rifle the cadet had kept, given that I had no access to the armoury any longer and my character said his goodbye to the cadet he so liked. After being allowed access out of the Brig, my character charged right for X's position with the carbine he was given. After encountering him, he immediately opened fire on X - beheading him. Sweet, sweet revenge (and (in)justice!). My character was detained by Beepsky and the detective, opened fire at with lethals. He was taken to the Medbay, where he died eventually. That's when Garnascus contacted me, and when the black-out happened, leaving me unable to explain the rest of the story. All the actions my character took were solely based on instinct and emotion, nothing more, nothing else. This is an RP server, and thus, we are allowed to roleplay and develop our characters the way we want. This is how my character responded to the situation at hand, and that, is solely my opinion. Share it or not, that's about it. I'm not going to explain point by point why I should be unbanned and how I didn't commit said thing or whatnot. I'm posting what happened for what it is, and it is up to whoever may review this to judge whether my banning was fair or not.
  2. BYOND key: InquisitorJohn Character names: Sage Sterling, Echoes of Ancient Times. How long have you been playing on Aurora?: Somewhere around 5-6 weeks. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: As I have read in guides when I first got into Space Station 13, something that is always told to newbies is to not start off in the more-complex jobs, since in any station, cooperation and stability is key - else you will just be a liability. You are told to start off by the simple jobs, to learn as you roleplay and so on. You are told that when you feel you are ready to go up a level in the pyramid, you should. There is nothing more wonderful for a roleplayer than trying out new and different things and concepts, and as such, I wish to try out CMO as to go further up the pyramid, and be able to play a more varying role in the station, as well as get more varying roleplay. Why did you come to Aurora?: I initially came to Aurora for three reasons; one was the average playerbase the server got, which wasn't too low or too high, giving me the option to be able to maintain roleplay as well as learn as I watched others, since Aurora is pretty much the first server where I was able to hold decent roleplay. Secondly, there is not as much lag in Aurora as there would be in other servers. And thirdly, the level of RP Aurora demands for is simply what I always look for in a server. I personally enjoy servers where roleplay is a must, whilst there are some servers around which don't demand such. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes, I have. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: Roleplay is a game genre where a person, the player, is able to create and portray a character of their own. They are able to mold and bend the character to the image and personality they wish, with no limitations at all (except in cases of lored servers), from appearance to personality. The character a player creates must be portrayed according to the universe they are in, as if they were real. In roleplay, all players are able to interact with each other's characters, form bonds, and portray the life of their character in the day to day life. To put it simpler, roleplay is the making of a character and 'being it', like if it were real life. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: Heads of Staff are there to keep order OOCly and ICly respectively. OOC-wise, they hold power over their own faction (CMO - Medical, for example) and are responsible for their behaviour. They act as a sort of lesser moderator to keep watch after their respective faction within Aurora, and as well to aid them with any doubts they may have or problems they might be experiencing. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: Whitelisted players, Heads of Staff mainly, as they do hold some power over non-whitelisted players in a way, this makes them responsible for their behaviour and acting, both IC-wise and OOC-wise. Heads of Staff are to correct, but above all help, players of the respective field they have authority on - guide them through, explain how things work, what to do and not to do (again, IC-wise and OOC-wise). To uphold this order in my respective field, to begin with, it is best to keep an open and understanding mind to the players, to not be as tough and punishing as some may be. Everyone commits mistakes every now and then. To uphold such order, what is needed is to be able to put yourself in your players' shoes. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Echoes of Ancient Times. Character age: 85 (Diona). Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Cultivated like most by botanists, Echoes was adequately grown aboard on one of NanoTransen's stations. Once Echoes had reached adolescence, it was let off to roam around the station. Usually found at the Library, it had taken curiosity for the people that frequented the Library - among it's favourites of course, the Librarian. He had gained a reputation among the bookworms to be one of the bitey Nymphs, creeping up on the bookworms to take a bite off their fingers without previous notice. Echoes eventually began frequenting the Library often, becoming one of his favourite places. It could inquire all he wanted about many topics, and would recieve answers most of the time. The Librarian was a middle-aged human, who was a fan of many genres among books, had grown quite attached to Echoes. He would often read it classics from times when humans had not even found out about the existence of aliens and reference science books, so it could inquisition the Librarian all it could and retain the most information possible. This is how it acquired the name of "Echoes of Ancient Times", referencing the Echoes as the books, and Ancient Times as the time they had been written in. After the Librarian passed away and was replaced, Echoes had grown into a full-grown Diona. It's appearance is humanoid, yet does not resemble a human accurately, rather leaning onto a merge of the aspects the Librarian would often read to it in tales of monsters and creatures of legends. What do you like about this character?: The fact that it is willing to bend and mold it's own being to suit humans and their culture. What do you dislike about this character?: Nothing, really. I find Diona roleplay and Echoes roleplay extremely fun. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: Echoes of Ancient Times, with his age, has obviously inquired quite a lot throughout his lifespan; knowledge, proceedures, etiquette, etcetera. With the passing of time, he has slowly become more and more knowledgable of his surroundings, and how human society works - particularly a NanoTransen station. All together, combining his pacifist behaviour and the knowledge he has retained through all these years, he seeks to go further up in the "power-pyramid" so that he may be able to ensure the Medbay is always organized and minimize the failure of standard medical proceedures as well as be able to provide the Medical staff with the leadership and coordination they need. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: As I have previously mentioned in my Dionaea application, I have roleplayed in various games for quite some time now. Approximately five years. This does not mean, however, I am the perfect roleplayer or anything of the sort. I make mistakes every now and then like anyone would, and I may sometimes not give the most entertaining roleplay I may. Yet I am willing to put the best of my efforts into this opportunity I am applying for, regardless. Extra notes: Forgot to answer one of the questions. Wrote this app ~3am, and my sincere apologies if I do have some mistakes here and there.
  3. BYOND Key: InquisitorJohn Character Names: Sage Sterling Species you are applying to play: Diona. What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): - Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: As a person who has been roleplaying for a while, there is no doubt - and it applies to pretty much any roleplayer - that I like to see varying roleplay concepts and ideas, not only in myself but in others as well. Diona is an unique roleplay concept, one which I have not seen before. This concept does pretty much fascinate me, and I am more than willing to commit to roleplaying a Diona. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Diona are physically distinct from most races, largely because of their plant-like being. Yet leaving this aside, the most distinct feature of a Diona is their mentality and behaviour, more than their anatomy. They do not group in civilizations or are reigned by a monarch or any sort of system at all. Diona are "feral", per say. Their mentality is simple - they seek to live and learn as their priorities, and do not trouble themselves with complex riddles and philosophies, socities and oppression, like a human would. Character Name: Echoes of Ancient Times. Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Cultivated like most by botanists, Echoes was adequately grown aboard on one of NanoTransen's stations. Once Echoes had reached adolescence, it was let off to roam around the station. Usually found at the Library, it had taken curiosity for the people that frequented the Library - among it's favourites of course, the Librarian. What do you like about this character? I'm personally fascinated by the idea of an alien, a foreign creature seeking to fill itself with knowledge. An empty creature seeking to fill the void inside itself by spending time with the "wiser people", molding itself to their ideals and behaviour. A creature seeking to adapt. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I have been roleplaying for approximately five years now, yet I have barely started to roleplay on SS13 - having started off around three weeks ago. I'm pretty familiar to the concept of different races, physical and mental-wise. I would not consider myself the perfect roleplayer, yet I believe myself to be able to hold a decent roleplay with people, though, There is no excuse that I may and will commit mistakes every now and then, that's unavoidable after all.
