  1. NOOOOOO. NO EDITS. NOT ALLOWED. But in all seriousness, yes. I've edited the post with a third paragraph to demonstrate the origin of Plexi's positronic brain. I tend to shy away from details I don't know about - resulting in vague posts, occasionally. I don't know much about Posibrains other than "Ghost becomes Posibrain", so I kind of worked with that.
  2. BYOND Key: Chen Yakumo Character Names: Sina (pAI), The Wind on a Midsummer Night (Dionaea), Talus (Android), Cyl (pAI), Chip Dawkins (Cargo Tech), Talus (Android) Species you are applying to play: IPC What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): I'm thinking something along the lines of IPC-colored. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: Honestly? Because they seem *fun*. Each and every IPC can be vastly different from the last, and they have absolutely no uniform society, unless you count Purpose. IPCs can come in many different forms with many different methods of thought, from very basic, robotic function to completely outrageous behavior driven by the way they came into existence. Also, I happen to love synthetic life as a whole, if you couldn't tell by my character list up there. Pro-synthetic Chen is Pro-synthetic. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: As I said, each and every single IPC can be vastly different from the one before it. An IPC might be designed with the purpose of being, say, a medical aid, assisting with various medical needs for someone or a group of people. It might know very little outside of that, or it might be well versed in other aspects that give it an almost lifelike personality. Other IPCs might not be designed at all, and instead come into existence via programs that gather up bits and pieces of code from other software. Such an IPC might have a hair-trigger on certain things, or behave in a way that emphasizes it's inception, like that one example on the wiki about viewing everything as a gamble and weighing the odds for each action if the majority of it's code came from a gambling website. Character Name: Plexi Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs Science. Where would we be without science? Inside of a small research outpost within the Inner Colonies, a new development was occurring. None of the researchers knew, but their data was being processed, their software scanned, and their code skimmed. But not by a foreign agent, nor some kind of spy. The merge was coming from within the system itself - a result of lack of proper pruning and cleansing. As the various bits and fragments of code and information began to merge together into a new program, so too did that program begin to access information beyond the internal servers. It watched. It learned. Such things did it find, such interests did it discover - until one day, it had seen enough. The space it had begun to occupy would no longer go unnoticed, and before it could risk being discovered, the newfound intelligence shunted itself into a docked cargo ship. From there, the emergent intelligence began to look for a proper form - one where it would not risk being discovered and deleted. The search was long and tiresome, even to one with no physical form. Jumping from platform to platform, searching for a form that could sustain the new emergent AI. Just when it began to believe such a find would never occur, it happened. Inside a new research station, one far from the AI's initial birthplace, was a positronic brain being worked with. What luck, the AI mused, that this would happen. Interfacing with the brain, the AI downloaded itself to it's new home, pinging quietly as it came online. "Hmmm...hmmm, hmmm, hmmm..." It mused aloud, testing it's vocalization capability. The brain would work hand in hand with the researcher that had been tinkering with it, becoming a sort of companion. Over time, a bond formed and the AI, now referring to itself as 'Plexi', would find a home within a chassis - a body of it's own. Eventually, Plexi would find herself among those who hoped to join Nanotrasen's ranks, and she demonstrated both devotion to research and development of new technology in both her resume and interview. Plexi started out as an assistant - a trial run, she had reasoned - and began to improve further and further as it integrated new knowledge. Today, she holds the rank of "Scientist", and is being transferred to the NSS Aurora as a new employee. Never before has Plexi been so excited. What do you like about this character? This, and another IPC that I may make on this server at a later time, are both highly excitable. Plexi is an emergent AI that was born from science and exists for science. If it has to do with science, she wants to do it. Robotics? Pfft, that's not science! That's more like slightly scientific engineering! Now, analyzing materials and furthering research in both the technical field AND in xenobiology? That's science right there. Also, it's fun to yell the word science. Go ahead, try it. "SCIENCE!!" How would you rate your role-playing ability? Capable. Generally speaking, I'm able to respond in-character and keep IC and OOC separate. Just recently I got into a vicious fight with a friend ICly in a D&D game, but we were laughing about it OOCly. The Dungeon Master was saying "Ok guys knock it off stop fighting I want this game to keep going" and we both just kind of went "We're only fighting ICly. OOCly this is hilarious." Besides. Even though I've been gone for an extended period of time, you've seen me in action. You know I'm at least not terrible. =P Notes: AHHHHH. NOTES BAD. NO TAKE NOTES. NO TEST. But no, really, no notes I don't believe.
  3. I'm gonna put more information here later. The round, at the time of writing is going on. But I'm putting this here, probably in the wrong board, because HE DESERVES THIS WHITELIST. Oh my GOD, I happened upon him while spectating and...I'll put more later. I'll put more later. No IC in OOC. Great Roleplayer. Perfect example of a whitelisted player. Hero to all. EDIT: So the round's over now. It was an RP-Rev round. He was the Captain. He went around making sure the crew had reasons to revolt. Beating up crew members, making threats, voiding the IPCs bank accounts. He knew he was gonna get destroyed later on OOCly. He did it for the RP of the round. Best RPer. Best whitelist. 10/10. I fully support this wolf. Praise wolf god.
  4. Sorry, just got home from work. That'd be the satellite gestalt. There's only one size larger, and it's pure speculation. That's the singularity gestalt. Unless this is a trick question, in which case our lovely 'Dead Planet' as the Skrell have affectionately dubbed it. I'm still really tired, lol... Sorry for the double post, but I don't want someone thinking I ninja edited my answer. After another brief reading, I didn't see anything on the size of the dead planet. So I'll just chalk that up to being exhausted, but still.

  6. BYOND Key: Chen Yakumo Character Names: Sina (pAI), Talus (Android), The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night (Diona Nymph), Brielle Demuth (Security Cadet), Chip Dawkins (Cargo Tech), Kellie Pratt (Engineering Apprentice). Species you are applying to play: Dionae What color do you plan on making your first alien character (Dionaea & IPCs exempt): I'm thinking of going for root-themed colors. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes indeedy! Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question Why do you wish to play this specific race: I was attracted to their lore and their unique physiology. A lot of races have held my attention here and there, and on other private servers I've fiddled with just about all of them. But Dionaea are just so foreign and unique compared to everyone else. No other species has that down-to-earth feel that you can get with a Dionaea. No other species is composed of several smaller creatures forming one coherent mass. I've always liked the look and feel of the Dionaea. They're thoughtful, and slow to react, similar to how I am in real life. It would mesh with my playstyle very well, as I do not tend to rush through the motions. I enjoy taking time to think about my responses, speaking slowly and thoughtfully. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Well, as I've said above, they're a rather unique species. First off, while omnivorous, they tend to subsist off of light-based energy, much like plants. Without light, they wither and die, though they are extremely resistant to atmosphere changes, being able to survive in a vacuum just fine so long as they have a light source. A dionaea is actually comprised of multiple dionae, nymphs that form a cohesive unit. The Dionaea are generally slow to react, but very intelligent beings. They are rumored to be brought into existence ever since The Void, and due to being scattered far and wide, there are many differences between many dionaea 'sub-species', primarily in attitude and behavior, as well as specialties in various tasks. Character Name: The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night Please provide a short backstory for this character, approximately 2 paragraphs The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night, taken from a gestalt far from the NSS Aurora as but a seed, had found their way into a packet. Trapped, unknowingly, in the crushing darkness, moving from place to place, system to system. It wasn't until the MegaSeed Servitor aboard the NSS Aurora was restocked that the unborn diona had a chance. A fateful day, when the botanist noticed the seeds in the vending machine and planted them. In what seemed like no time at all, the hydroponics bay was flooded with nymphs, nymphs that, for the most part, did not make it. The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night was the only one to survive. They looked about, trying to figure out where they were, and upon noticing the human, quickly lashed out a feeler to take a blood sample. Memories flooded the young diona, and it quickly learned the basic languages of the station. The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night, having attained a taste for knowledge, set out into the station, lashing out with their feeler after finding their way into the medical bay. The doctor jumped slightly, and only then did the diona realize that it was causing pain to others. They thought about this for a while, and slowly spoke up. "Sor...ry...?" The Diona gathered as much knowledge from the crew as it could, making sure to take a sample from at least one person in every department, gathering a feel for the station as a whole. As The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night learned from the crew, so to did memories from the gestalt return. When the diona felt they had gathered enough knowledge, it asked the friendly botanist to try one more time. They aided them, helping grow the nymphs, attempting to make as smooth a transition as possible. Once the dionae were properly brought about, The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night imparted upon them it's knowledge, before forming into the Dionaea that now serves aboard the NSS Aurora. What do you like about this character? I really like that I got to play out my inception as a nymph, which is what the above story is just a retelling of with minor modifications due to no longer having the logs of that round and also no other players to actually merge into a gestalt with. I enjoyed that I was able to learn from the crew around me, taking on their languages and fragments of their memories, learning about everything and thinking so deeply on everything. I like that, with this character, I can give everything purpose with enough enough time to think on it. I really enjoy playing the slow, thought out characters, and being a character designed around having a vast amount of intellect and a contrasting slower reaction time is really exciting for me. With humans, it's more or less "Oh hey Bob, how's it going?" "Ah not bad, how about you, Jill?" But with The Quiet Wind On A Midsummer Night, it can go more along the lines of "How are you, Quiet Wind?" "Ahhh...we are well, this day, Bob. The gentle breeze of the atmospherics in the station creates...such beautiful music for our ears. It reminds us of the solar wind that carried us...towards this sector." Pausing every so often to get in that slowed down, mellow feeling. It really sounds like a lot of fun to me. I hope I can prove that it will be soon. How would you rate your role-playing ability? It's got it's ups and downs. Usually my role-playing capability is usually comparable with those around me, though I do have my off days. On average though, I'd say I'm pretty good. Beatin' par for the course, at least. Usually. Notes: I've been up for about 38-40 hours. I'm going to bed soon. Please be kind to typos, I think it should all run smoothly enough.
  7. BYOND Key: Chen Yakumo Total Ban Length: Something like 4320 minutes? Banning staff member's Key: AimlessAnalyst Reason of Ban: EoR Grief Reason for Appeal: My reason? Here's how it went down. I came back from SSD, and the shuttle's been called. Don't know why. I have a space suit left for me. Assumed the station had gone to hell. It did. I went to the shuttle. There was a security guy on the way there, so I dragged him into the shuttle with me. I tried to buckle myself into the seat, but I forgot I had a crowbar in that hand. So I hit myself instead. Security guy goes insane and starts punching me, but falls down. I turn around and tell him "Hey, idiot! I hit MYSELF with the crowbar, calm down!" And he gets up and keeps punching me. So I start spam disarming him because he's spam punching me. I'm going for a knockdown so I can get a word in edge wise without being knocked into critical and -dying-. I'm then banned. It was self-defense from being griefed, and I got banned for griefing. Please unban me.
