  1. Thanks very much to ShameOnTurtles for taking the time to look through my application. I've tried to fix some of the flaws you pointed out in my application, primarily focused on explaining how Coy lives up to the requirement for the Head of Staff roles he is meant for (HoP and CE).
  2. BYOND key: Gris3310 Character names: Coy Bennare, William Albright How long have you been playing on Aurora?: I've been playing on Heavy Roleplay servers for a about 4 years, but back then I don't think it was aurora I played on (honestly don't remember). My best guess would be around 2-3 years. Why do you wish to be on the whitelist?: I feel like I would make the station a better place in a more administrative role and that it is a natural progression for my characters (and me as a player). Why did you come to Aurora?: It is one of the few Heavy Roleplaying Space Station 13 servers, which is how I prefer to play the game. I am not quite sure why this server in particular stuck out to me the most, as I did play on other Heavy Roleplaying servers a while back. It's probably the people that I am getting to learn and befriend more as I grow familiarity with players and their characters and feeling like I'm a part of the community. Have you read the BS12 wiki on the head roles you plan on playing?: Yes, of cause. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph each. Give a definition of what you think roleplay is, and should be about: I would say that roleplaying is about exploring parts of yourself by trying to be someone else. Having quite a lot of experience with pen & paper roleplaying games, I have learned that I find the most joy in playing characters who don't talk, think or say the same things that I would. That way I can build the character and can stay better immersed, having fun with other players and their characters. It's also simply a form of fun and socializing and a good way to meet and learn more about people and characters. What do you think the OOC purpose of a Head of Staff is, ingame?: To be as precise as possible, I would describe HoS's purpose as being: to try and make the playing experience go a lot more smoothly for everyone. This involved things like making sure that the players communicate with each other instead of staying in their own little boxes, Offering to help others you can see clearly are struggling with a job or system (and even just representing a role where players know they can ask you for help if they ever need it). To some degree HoS is also involved in giving purpose to players who don't know what to do or are starting to get bored with a round. Inviting players to interact to achieve a common goal is a great way to make sure that everyone is doing their part but also to get people to talk to each other and learn about each other, which is where the real magic happens. What do you think the OOC responsibilities of Whitelisted players are to other players, and how would you strive to uphold them?: It is expected that we know and follow the rules of the server. That we have some degree of knowledge about the game and are therefore easily approachable by players who need help or are just starting to learn the game. It is expected that we take the game serious and that we know how to talk to one another and make the experience more enjoyable for everyone. I would say that I already do my very best to uphold these responsibilities as I find them to be a natural part of playing and learning the game. Please pick one of your characters for this section, and provide well articulated responses to the following questions. Character name: Coy Bennare Character age: 37 Please provide a short biography of this character (approx 2 paragraphs): Raised on Isis, the second planet in the Epsilon Eridani system, early life was not easy for Coy. He came from a family of miners and thus was very early thrown into the job as well, to make sure his family had food on the table, expecting that his life would stay pretty much the same from there on out until the he died. But a distantly related boss of his discovered his talent for communication, teamwork and administration and thus Coy began rising through the ranks, first becoming a team leader in charge of making sure a smaller group did their job well, but eventually raising himself above miner status and earning enough money to start an education, getting himself a engineering degree as well as a bachelor in management. After finishing his education, he worked a few dead-end, underpaid and over qualified jobs, before being hired by NanoTrasen, initially as a cargo tecnician, but moving quickly moving through the ranks and getting experience mostly within cargo and engineering. Coy is quite skeptical of NanoTrasen because he largely blames his tough early life on corporate greed dragging down the hardworking middle and lower class. But nonetheless he is glad for the opportunities NanoTrasen has provided him, to become something more than his parent or their parents, and he knows that he will rise a lot further thanks to NanoTrasen. From here I have mostly developed Coy background through playing him, like inventing small quirks that my character does and better understanding how my he would react to certain situations through experience with playing him. What do you like about this character?: As I wrote earlier I like to base my characters as far from myself as possible and having grown up in good finical support and a family (and perhaps society) heavily based on education, I really enjoy living life through Coy's perspective. Coy is your very typical hardworking man, who likes to drink a beer and have a smoke after a hard day of work. What he lacks in more educational knowledge, he makes up for in general know-how about a tools and their uses and a smile served together with some inspirational words to help everyone help people go through the day. What do you dislike about this character?: Early in the process of making Coy, I decided that I was going to give him a flaw that could affect gameplay to better live myself into his role. I decided he was afraid of the dark, which turned out the be quite the challenge as often play in Engineering or Cargo, both of which have a good chance of entering darker areas and I quickly found out that a simple change like that actually blocked my gameplay quite a bit and if I could go back I probably would have added something else. That being said, being afraid of the dark is now such a core part of what I perceive to be Coy that I can't take it away from him. It gives me something to do, like trying convince the a cargo technician working, to set up few lights so that I can enter the disposals with no worries. Other than that Coy is also a little bit closed in. He won't go into long rants about his personal opinions (unless asked), because he doesn't think anyone would care. While he is polite, you will rarely get to really know more of him, if you haven't already known him for a while or aren't sharing a space beer with him. What do you think makes this character fit to be a head of staff?: First of all, it is important to note that Coy is only meant for playing Head of Personnel and Chief Engineer (even though I know this application is towards allowing all the Head of Staff roles) and thus he is only fit to play those roles. He's different. In my experience, most Head of Staffs feel very authoritative and commanding, where Coy is more a of leader, rather than a commander (trying work with the people, instead of just over the people). He cares about everyone, even the small jobs such as Janitor or Librarian who are often overlooked, because he comes from a past where not much was cared for him either. He is very approachable and is good at taking initiative, giving other players something to do (in a good way). His past with working within technical fields and mining facilities also gives him vast knowledge over engineering and cargo. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions. How would you rate your own roleplaying?: I would say that I'm a good roleplayer. I manage quite well to immerse myself in my characters head and think and see the world through their view, hardly ever breaking character and avoiding things like metagaming, powergaming or whatever else you can call it. Extra notes: Having spent a lot of time working on and playing as Coy and learning to play HoS roles on other servers, I find that his (and my) progression towards a Head of Staff role is only natural. Almost like the next chapter in his life. It will give me new ways to explore the characters and help other players in a way I don't feel that the other roles offer.
