Engineering HUDs

I thought it would be cool for engineering to have their own HUDs. They would be orange/yellow (ofc) and display 'power bars' for APC's and SMES, telling you how much energy is in them at a glance. As well as this, they could have little icons for airlocks that tell you if they are powered down or shocked (a little lightning bolt?) and generally, with little visual icons, give you at-a-glance knowledge of equipment around you. And "enabling" it could let you see wires and junk like a t-scanner does.

Teir II possibility would be to have it notify you instantly when there's a power or atmos alarm, but I was thinking that this might be better as a PDA cartridge - I don't know how much it would spam a user with "Atmos alarm!" with how the atmos alarms work. (If firelocks are any indication - a regular AI player would have to remind me here)

Teir III possibility is that it gives you a health bar for borgs. (This could be what it does if RnD upgrades it?)

You know what would be better, though?

If these had to actually be researched.

That could be neat - but it seems like it would turn into another checklist for RnD to complete, or to withhold if they're having a disagreement with engineering...

My idea in full would be that engineering gets them right off, but RnD can upgrade them to include more functionalities. The basic ones would show you APC and SMES power and airlock statuses, Mk II could be enabled to instantly tell you about power and atmospheric alerts, plus t-scanning abilities... Or any mix of these.

I am all about this idea. This will give meaning for engineering to pester RnD and make those good scientists (bombing boners) to help the station a bit more.

All my +1 for these.

Kind of thinking aback with last night's malf round, I'm hesitant to endorse this, given that turning off the bolt lights to doors and then locking them down is one of the neatest tricks an AI can do. Not to mention the 1500000 W+ output shocks.

This gives a lot of power to engineers versus malignant synthetics.

Any engineer worth his salt has insulated gloves on anyway - to truely counter the AI in any true sense, the engineers would have to:

Have the HUD

See the door when X crew member is walking towards it

Say "Don't touch the door it's shocked!" in time

Have the crew member listen.

Even if engineers taped up all the shocked doors you know people are just going to try to waltz through them anyway.

I like jackboots idea, but lets take it a step further, give medi and sec huds a multi tech level tree

Since we are being crazy already, why not a a fourth tier that is on par with the bluespace backpack in research levels that can cycle between the three huds
