Shrimpism
BYOND Key: (Shrimpism) Character Names: Erin Song (Security Officer), Autumn Harding (Detective), Floria Flynn (Biomechanical Engineer), Valeria Blackwood (Mechatronic Engineer). Species you are applying to play: IPC (shell for the first character) Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yep! Why do you wish to play this specific race: IPCs are remarkably different to any other race due to their nature as entirely manufactured consciousnesses. This in turn leads to a very interesting dynamic with other races, a dynamic which I think would be really fun to roleplay. Additionally, the RP style of IPCs will encourage me to roleplay in ways I typically would not playing a human, lawed cyborg or AI. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: IPCs have an entirely different roleplaying style to not only humans, but all other races. The lack of emotion and organic drives mean that IPCs can often quite simply exist to serve their designed purpose. The lack of emotion in IPCs differentiates them from humans as IPCs may attempt (and most likely fail) to simulate emotions in ways that may be seen as unsettling to organics (e.g: uncomfortably loop simulated laughter, smiling, etc…). Character Name: Echo-31 Please provide a short backstory for this character: Echo was designed to serve a more generalist role aboard NT stations and facilities, acting as a general assistant to the crew. Echo’s chassis is fitted with a hair augment in order to allow those who Echo is assisting to customise her to their preference and current needs. Due to administrative errors, Echo remained in storage for the first year of her operation. NT wishing to make use of their re-discovered asset as soon as possible, assign Echo to the Aurora in order to aid in crew efficiency by reducing time spent performing needless busywork. What do you like about this character? What I like about Echo-31 is the RP and gameplay style I have planned for the character. Ideally, Echo will act as a friendly assistant to any crew who asks for her assistance, yet will be somewhat hindered in her efforts to improve productivity due to the uncanny nature of her simulated human emotions. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I would say my roleplaying ability is quite good due to my habit of trying to get into my character’s headspace when I RP. However, I do notice that my use of emotes is somewhat sparse and I’ve caught myself forgetting to fear RP on occasion. Notes: I would ramble more about the idea of humanity within synthetics, but for the sake of brevity and everyone’s sanity I will not. Link to comment
niennab
As it stands the application is a bit bare bones. Could you greatly expand on both the backstory as well as this question here? 2 hours ago, Shrimpism said: Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Some points of interest can be the manufacturing company, location, the characters aspirations as well as any conflict or points of note that effectively forge the character or start their story. Shrimpism
Sorry if it was a bit barebones, it was my first app and I wasn't sure what to write. But in regards to the question, manufacturer definitely diversifies IPCs beyond humans. For example, an IPCs personality might be representative of the general company culture of their manufacturer and/or where they are stationed. Also, the IPCs loyalty to their respective owner would definitely cause conflict in regards to an IPCs true intentions aboard any station they are sent to work on. Echo-31 is intended to be a general representation of NTs method of increasing productivity in a manner that is somewhat more subtle than simply providing bonuses for performance, using methods such as positive reinforcement and reducing the amount of time staff spend performing mundane tasks such as fetching cargo orders, sorting files, etc... Echo's aspirations will start off as a relatively basic "foster a productive, safe, and happy work environment" however will most likely develop into a "care" of the crew in order to keep their mental health in check to ensure that they are working at optimum efficiency. (once again, sorry if it's barebones I'm not that great at getting the image out of my head and into words) Link to comment
niennab
Unfortunately I am going to have to ask for more. The reason for whitelist applications is ultimately to demonstrate that you know the lore, but you're also able to apply the existing lore in terms of character generation. As it stands the answers as well as character backstory are too bare bones. Denied for now but you're welcome to reapply in 3 days at the minimum. In the meantime, I recommend reading other accepted applications. A few of my favorites include: Link to comment
