Abaddonius Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 (edited) BYOND Key: Abaddonius Character Names: Andrea Gunnarsdottir Species you are applying to play: Axiori Skrell What color do you plan on making your first alien character: A dark, vibrant red, or perhaps a dark pale blue to change things up. Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes. Please provide well articulated answers to the following questions in a paragraph format. One paragraph minimum per question. Why do you wish to play this specific race: After having played around with psionic-like powers or attributes on other servers, I find that the utilization of psionics into roleplay gives things a different feel that I thoroughly enjoy. Being a Mass Effect Asari fan, the concept of Srom and other psionic abilities that the Skrell possess are very appealing to me. The limitation of how they can express emotions is very fascinating to me, and I enjoy seeing how they overcome the limitations of expressing emotions when it comes to interacting with other species. The empathy Skrell possess along with the facial expression limitation just adds all the more charm, and I personally would thoroughly enjoy being able to roleplay out the Skrell’s unique body language and their different culture in general. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: Skrell have drastically different culture and biology than Humans and other species, making the interactions between the two species consistently interesting, as the Skrell must find a way most of the time to properly express their emotions. Skrell beliefs and how they look at life is also a huge factor in the difference between Skrell and Human, as on-station disasters would most likely be faced with a calm resolve due to their outlook on shorter term occurrences, and that’s without mentioning the psionics. With the psionics added into the repertoire of Skrell roleplay mechanics, it allows them to have many unique ways to express themselves when among their peers or those with psionic receivers. Character Name: Qraluu Saathar Please provide a short backstory for this character Being born on a frontier research outpost on the fringes of Skrell space, Qraluu comes from a family of prestigious Scientists and Engineers. With this environment to cater and nurture their curiosity towards the world with such enthusiasm, they were able to learn about the world around them at an early age, being fascinated with both engineering and applied sciences. Their family guided them through various experiments while they were still young, further boosting their curiosity towards numerous questions they had about the world that had thus far gone unanswered. Inevitably, Qraluu received official education in the science field, with a little bit of basic engineering classes to assist with their career in the future. They slowly became fascinated with space exploration and research regarding artifacts, inevitably dropping some of their more complex science classes for Xenoarchaeology. During their free time, they researched numerous publicized anomalies on the internet that had been found by various other space explorers, becoming specifically fascinated with the process of how the artifacts are extracted and safely brought back. Eventually finishing their classes, Qraluu seeked employment within Zeng-hu Pharmaceuticals, hunting down more basic jobs to gather time employed elsewhere to improve their chances of getting hired by the company. They were first hired by a smaller, more unknown excavation company that had been newly founded and seeked to make a name for themselves. Qraluu was assigned as the boots on the ground for the anomalist team, digging up numerous, relatively harmless artifacts with their team. All was uneventful until they unearthed an artifact of strange origins. The artifact laid dormant on a peculiar asteroid, with strange crystal growths jutting out on numerous parts of the asteroid, as if it was some form of disease that was slowly spreading and infecting the entire asteroid. Initially it was tough to find a suitable landing location, but eventually they did, and the team was on the ground and headed for the source of the crystal growth. The artifact. Upon discovery of the artifact, a member of the excavation team was impaled by a sudden crystal growth seemingly coming from the artifact that lay before them. The team stared in fear at the scene before them, the artifact’s crystals were too precise to be a pure coincidence.. It appeared that it had a form of in-built self defense. Qraluu slowly started moving back, but even this was in vain as a crystal jutted straight towards Qraluu, the contact with the crystal managing to make them lose their entire right arm in the process. Their vision got blurry as they listened to the panicked sounds around them, eventually blacking out due to shock. As a result of the failed expedition, Qraluu lost their right arm. They only made it out alive due to the fact that their team was quick enough to recover them and their fallen team member that had been initially impaled. Afterwards, Qraluu quit the expedition team and was hired by Zeng-hu Pharmaceuticals, and as a result, assigned to the Horizon in Xenoarchaeology to recover more artifacts, within safer work conditions, of course. What do you like about this character? Qraluu is a character that is designed to be well-balanced and with noticeable flaws. I have had Qraluu for a little while on other servers, and the realistic flaws that they possess have helped with connecting with them and really getting into character. The grounded realism is an aspect of a character that is a must have for me, as I struggle to connect with characters that just don't have these realistic aspects such as Qraluu. They actively struggle with social situations, and tend to slip up when expressing their feelings towards others from different species or culture. How would you rate your role-playing ability? I’d say that I’m quite good in most areas of roleplaying, but I do struggle with things here and there, I do have room to improve my roleplaying ability, which I hope to do so here. WhatsUpBrotendo Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 (edited) Hi, thanks for applying. A few questions: What is Qraluu's social credit score? Is this small unknown company that Qraluu initially worked with meant to be working in the Federation? The Federation has its own state-owned enterprises and the megacorporations, and the rest of the Spur is largely dominated by the megacorporations. Smaller companies do exist in the setting, but not in Federation space. Given the relationship Zeng-Hu has with the Federation and the megacorp's reputation for hiring Skrell as soon as they graduate, Qraluu could go straight to Zeng-Hu rather than try and gain work experience before applying. Is there a reason that may have stopped Qraluu from doing this? What does Qraluu believe in? Are they particularly devout? Which region of Federation space does Qraluu come from? Are they from an established, canon planet or headcanon? How does Qraluu feel about the Federation? How does Qraluu feel about Skrell born/living outside the Federation? How does Qraluu feel about the non-Skrell citizens of the Federation (Dionae and C'thur Vaurcae)? How have recent events in the Federation/the Spur in general impacted Qraluu? You never mentioned what happened to them after Qraluu lost their arm. Did they get a prosthetic? Edited October 4, 2022 by WhatsUpBrotendo
Abaddonius Posted October 4, 2022 Author Posted October 4, 2022 1. Taking into account average citizenship and the devotion to science, 6.2. 2. The unknown company does work outside of Federation space, yes. 3. Qraluu initially chose to work with the company first as a means of preparing for the mega-corporation in their eyes. While not necessary, a combination of a worry regarding failure and holding their own work to a high standard played into them making this decision. 4. Qraluu is a firm believer in Weishii, taking a liking to meditation in particular. 5. Qraluu hails from Qerrbalak. 6. Being a listener, Qraluu has their doubts about the Federation, but they do not seek to rebel. While they are not supportive, they do not actively speak out against the Federation. 7. Sometimes Qraluu looks at them with envy, and sometimes Qraluu pities them. The Federation has its benefits. 8. Qraluu has always been a bit of a xenophilic individual, consistently holding other species up with high respect. 9. Qraluu has managed to remain relatively unbothered by these events, sticking close to the mega-corporations for a sense of stability. 10. My bad! Yes, Qraluu did end up getting a prosthetic.
WhatsUpBrotendo Posted October 5, 2022 Posted October 5, 2022 I have been made aware that you have played for a total of four rounds, which is not enough time to showcase your roleplaying ability. I'll be denying this application, but I encourage you to play on the server more and properly establish yourself in the community. You can reapply in two weeks.
