Reason for appeal: I would like to argue that my actions were motivated by self-preservation and sense of duty as bridge crew at the time of ban. But I do admit that there was one time in the past when I did attempt to hunt down an antagonist and I was warned for it. In total I was warned for two incidents and got banned on the third, but I believe two of these were not completely just. I would explain these incidents in a few words:

  • Let's begin with admitting when I was wrong: The first time when I was warned for this we had a low-pop round and the antagonist's main plot was mainly about destruction. I was pissed both IC'ly and OOC'ly so I helped security find them and blocked the antagonist's escape route with my character. I was warned for this (no warning issued just small talk with an admin) and I know I should've stay put and let security handle it, I didn't. This was a completely just warning, nothing wrong with it.
  • The second time was when an antagonist broke into the bridge took me hostage and injected me with a paralysis pen. Of course this could be a difficult thing to perform, but I did let it happen for role-playing reasons, I was curious about their plot. The intruder tied me up, took my ID and dragged me to the Longbow (back when it was connected to the bridge), but in the meantime my pAI warned security. Upon security's arrival they dragged me away, but the antagonist had no intention to negotiate and injected every single security officer in the room with paralysis pens. At this moment I had the chance to run away and escape (as I was later told), but that couldn't do much because I didn't have my ID, could only escape to the small hallway under the conference room, so I did what seemed logical: Picked up a disruptor of a fallen officer and shot the antagonist with stuns. I was warned again (and again no warning issued just chatting with an admin), but I believe this time I was right, this was self-preservation, I was locked inside a room with a maniac who kidnapped me and took down  a group of security officers.
  • The third and final time when the ban actually happened: Early in the round I was approached by the antagonists who wished to recruit me into their ranks, I politely declined and decided to not rat on them just yet. Soon they started to sabotage the ship and I went to the captain to privately discuss the likely identity of the antagonists, but the moment I wanted to step into the captain's office a portal opened on the bridge and the saboteurs arrived, armed. The captain, XO and myself were taken hostage (we just laid on the ground, weren't tied or unarmed). The intruders began interrogating us how they could fire the Leviathan (their plot was firing it at Adhomai due the canon events of the Cold Dawn arc), they took the Leviathan key and began figuring it out. Shortly security teleported into the bridge, negotiations were short, but during that time I began circling around the antagonists to disable the Leviathan completely. Antagonists and security began throwing Buggers at each other, still talking, but security lost their patience and an officer opened fire. I was stuck between an officer and an antagonist when firefight began so I hopelessly began what the ban reason above says: fighting armored antagonists from point blank. The captain ordered me, screamed at me to disable the Leviathan so that was my objective, besides somehow surviving of course. By the time I got to the Leviathan's controls the antagonists were downed, so I went to the intercom and called for medical help for the intruders. I somehow (and I have no idea how) survived without a single scratch on my character.

There are no actual warnings on first two incidents, but I felt like not leaving them out, probably you have them somewhere on admin notes anyways. I believe in two of these three incidents I was in the right and attempted to survive while performing my character's duties. I do admit the first time I was warned I was in the wrong and shouldn't have help security, that mostly happened because of my poor mood, which is no excuse. Between these incidents months passed so it's not like I was fighting antagonists every day for three days straight. Thank you for your time and I'll wait for your response.

Hello, hi. I finally had a chance to sit down and read through the appeal just now. First, I want to clarify: are you contesting the ban being placed in the first place (i.e., you believe you were right with what you did), or do you understand why it was placed and agree with the punishment but are just asking for another chance?

I am more than alright with lifting this, but I want to ensure you understand why you were banned and why this behavior is discouraged for BCs.

Hi-hi! Yes, I do believe I was right. But I do understand why you banned me, you believed I was attempting to take down the antagonists. I don't feel like that was in the case, I had no intention to ensure that the opponents hit the floor. I could've attempt to dropkick or suplex the antagonists, yet I didn't and merely spammed (probably useless) bare-handed punches against a voidsuit while trying to push past them, because I had two goals:

  • to ensure my own character's survival (getting out of the combat zone),
  • snatching the Leviathan key from the console to prevent genocide on Adhomai (just as I was ordered by the captain).

You want to discourage this behavior for bridge crew because it's security's job to handle threats and it can be unrealistic to see a janitor beat up an entire team of Solarian marines (as a wild example). But this threat was on the bridge with me - a bridge crewman, who happened to be issued a (very weak) firearm for nasty cases and again: my intention was not beating antagonists to the ground, nor do I think that I succeeded in that, security's firearms did. If I could I would be more than happy to just chat and fly the Horizon all shift without hearing a gunshot, pretending like it's Extended. I do have a warden character for the times I do feel like dealing with antagonists (which almost never happens and I do paperwork RP instead).

Edit: If I could write anything without a typo... Always correcting those... :(

Right--while validhunting was factored into the decision ultimately leading to your ban. The main issue in this specific case was the lack of self-preservation that your character displayed in getting themselves involved in the ongoing firefight. Once security teleported in, you should have attempted to disengage from this fight. As stated in the ban reason, you were unarmored and essentially unarmed with your mini-disruptor. You should be trying to avoid pain. Running up and firing at the antags point-blank is not a way that your character should reasonably act especially when there is the full security team there and fighting.

I've attached a screenshot of the incident. There is ample room for your character down where the executive officer was, and that is ideally where you should have been during that firefight if not fleeing further away from the active firefight. Instead, you ran up next to the antags and proceeded to shoot them, getting shot at in the process.

As of now, I will be denying this appeal but you are more than welcome to either create a new one if you agree with the ban and can demonstrate an understanding that this is not something that should be done as a BC, or you may open a staff complaint if you wish to contest the verdict.

I will be locking and archiving this now.
