Syncron
BYOND Key: Evildwells666 Primary Character Names: R.A.M (Engineering Module Primary, Science Module Secondary), Roy Stone(Cargo, Mining - Uncommonly used due to lighting issues on backend), Jake Norwood (Science, Xenofauna/Circuits), Ed Mason(Engineer), Lukas Morgan(Science, Weapon R&D) Secondary Character List: Dug Jimmins (Coalition Ranger) Species you are applying to play: Unathi What color do you plan on making your first alien character: Dark Red (Somewhat darker hue than examples on Wiki), Golden Eyes Have you read our lore section's page on this species?: Yes, for many days in fact, and I have been asking information in the lore discord for more information. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why do you wish to play this specific race: A bit of backstory; A long while back I used to play Baystation, and that is where I first learned about Unathi. While they aren't the same as Auroranathi, that is the origin of my interest. I learned while playing that role that the interactions you can receive can be vastly different than being a purely humanoid character. Innate speciesism, A sense of building a reputation and trust among your coworkers despite that. A sense of brotherhood with Fellow Unathi, and even rivalry with those who disagree with your beliefs. That was the origin that led to my interest. I believe that an Unathi will open more doors of role play for me, in both the traditional sense, and any future roles played, be it human or otherwise, normal, or antagonist. A way to view how others act with different species, how a honor bound species like the Unathi should act in a floating metal coffin in space filled with a mishmash of humans, aliens, robots, and of course, those who seek to harm others. I will not outright say 'This will overall bring more role play all around!' Because that is debatable depending on crew, the round, and the actions taken during it. However, I do think this will help me learn more about player interactions. Identify what makes role-playing this species different than role-playing a Human: The Unathi are innately different from humans, in more than just appearance. As stated above, the Unathi being a typically honor-bound species would lead to a much different interaction than with a human. Where one interaction could lead to insults being thrown for one side, it could lead to a duel for another. Aside from the more obvious things, like the differences in food, or alcohol which is widely commonly known as far as the differences go, The Unathi have a differing social behavior and mannerisms that would allow one to grow with their roleplay, learning to properly respond as an Unathi would, be it staring intently at the captain to the point that they look away because its uncomfortable, even when Unathi view it as respectful. Of course, while likely misunderstood by many, It could also be pretty amusing to become good friends with a crew member, be it through canon events saving each other, to the point where headbutting and shoulder checks as a greeting become the norm. (Tell me you wouldn't laugh watching a greeting, followed up with a straight lizard headbutt between good friends.) Now, that is from a purely RP/Interactive viewpoint. Another point of note is that the Unathi, being coldblooded, means being in a cold place could be far more threatening to them than a human, while they could handle hotter areas a bit more easily; Though not likely to any extreme degree. Aside from the difference in temperature, the Unathi, even those who do not fight are more dangerous than the humans thanks to their claws, So when playing as one, you have to be careful with any aggressive acts, because if they go to far against the scaleless, it could render you as a murderer, which obviously is not a great thing, since no matter what reasoning the Unathi has for being onboard, murder can lead to many other issues, sometimes politically. A finally little statement regarding the difference is, when speaking, if the Unathi are using Ceti basic, they are likely to receive some disliking from some of the less welcoming crew members, due to the way that the superior scaled ones hiss while speaking. With the same note on speech however, with an Unathi, speech mannerisms can be vastly different, ranging from a simple change in wording, such as calling a fellow male 'Warrior', Or female 'healer', to things that will outright confuse the uninitiated with terms like slow, and fast, and variations of such things. All the while adding body movements into their speed; Such as pointing at the captain while staring at him as a challenge of dominance, or even stomping their tails on the floor to show a multitude of emotions. A small collection of differences, among the many the Unathi have. Character Name: Rrs'var T'sanis Point of Notice: Aut'akh - Even with the discriminations other Unathi may have. Backstory: Hatched around 07/27/2429 with dark red scales, T'sanis was raised in the traditional Moghean ways in the southeast side of Moghes, Around the city known as Janvir. For his first years, He was like any Unathi his age, however around the age of 9, the Contact War began. Of course, this did not play any major role in the child's life, at the time. At the time, Most of T'sanis's clan sided with the Traditionalists, and as such T'sanis was raised thinking this was the right choice, but they did not take part in the fighting, at least until the nukes began to drop. After the nukes began to drop, his clan moved westward, seeking the protection of the mountains south of what is now Bahard. By the age of 11, T'sanis was helping his family, as his father was one of the primary craftsman of the clan; Of course, T'sanis's main job was helping (struggle) to move materials and load boxes. While most of the work was repairs for the clan, other crafts were namely close quarters weapons for the Coalition. By 2445, T'sanis was 16, and like many of his fellow Unathi in the clan, He sought glory for his clan. Heading out with a small collection of Unathi as dumb as he himself was at that age, They traveled north through the mountains, seeking to meet up with the Coalition, despite not knowing the situation at the time. They did not make it far. Inadvertently, The Unathi group was caught in an explosion, believed to be from a bomber from their 'own side', Most of the group died, or was heavily injured. T'sanis was not lucky, in this encounter. The unathi lost his right arm, and while he did survive, Any hope for glory was cut short. He never returned to his clan, and instead, he was taken in by a group of Refugees, who helped him stay alive, after the incident. Time passed, and the war itself ended; He was no hero, He had no glory of which to speak. A stupid child thinking himself an adult, one who knew the basics of repairs, and construction from his father, and instead tried to be a warrior, for a fight he had no right being involved in. As the years passed, He studied from an Ex-Guild Craftsman from the Construction Coalition, learning how to do what he could with one arm. But it was around this time, Around the age of 20, That he first encountered a wandering group of Aut'akh, and their Shaman, preaching their belief to any who would listen. T'sanis was never the biggest when it came to Religion. A follower of Th'akh, but when it came to the words he heard, it was easy to fall prey to such thoughts. Could cybernetics have made him, and his brothers stronger? Would they have lived through the explosion, had their 'Vessel' been able to take the hit? These were questions that began to haunt his mind. The thoughts only help cycle in the belief that yes, what he was told was true. The Flesh was Weak. How could one's soul desire such a weak, scaled body? While these thoughts did overwhelm him, He didn't dedicate himself immediately, However he did leave his new home to travel with the group. To listen to what they said, to find a place to call home. This was how the Unathi ended up eventually getting his arm replaced, with a prosthetic, a Unathi made arm, after fulfilling a Ritual of Shards At this time however, it was merely the task to bring supplies to a shaman in the southwestern side of Moghes, who was the one to grant him his new arm. After returning to his commune, however, he was then asked to use his skills to help others, and eventually was sent to 'The Factory' through less than luxurious means. By this point, The Unathi was the age of 24, year 2453, specifically. This is where T'sanis learned the most about engineering, and maintenance. He even learned the basics of repairing the prosthetics of his fellow Unathi. He couldn't fabricate new ones, or even really modify them, But a makeshift repair to keep it functional? He could manage it, given the time. His primary job was keeping the machines up and running, to help build as many basic augments as he could for those in need, be it for the Unathi, or the dregs that lived there. As the years went on however, His views had solidified into the beliefs of the Aut'akh, over time having voluntarily opted to have his limbs replaced with machine replacements, augments to make himself stronger, To give his soul a satisfactory body in which to call it's vessel. By the year 2463, T'sanis had the thought to leave his Commune, to do what he had long since learned to hate; Work under command of another, but he had a cause. To suffer for his commune, to earn money to help them grow, and get the supplies they need, or even help bribe those that need it to get their augments and prosthetics out for those who need them. From what he knew, he matched the requirements, as long as things were worded properly, when the issue was researched; He may not have the degree being asked for, But he had worked with mechanical parts and construction for most of his life. By the year 2464, This desire came true, And by 2465, He was on the Horizon. What do you like about this character? To a degree, while some of this backstory seems cliché, I like the idea that he was like anybody entering adulthood. Stupid and thinking they know the best, which cost him his arm, his brothers in arms, for a reason that could have been avoided. The idea of T'sanis being able to fill his role, but not like it. He doesn't have to be verbal, But even if he knows the captain and command are just cogs in the wheel, they are still in charge. This leaves openings for future ideas if he is ever an antag, or even just a casual fuss if things go that far. The character gives me more ideas of things to do than a typical character, and because of that, I like the idea. How would you rate your role-playing ability? On a scale of 1-10, I would rate it around a 6.5 at this time, but in truth it is not for me to judge. I'm critical of myself almost always on this kind of thing. The reason around this choice is because I took a hiatus from roleplay for a while, and have getting back into the saddle for it. I know there are things I need to get back into doing, like using the emote command more (Admittedly the build in action notifications cover a lot of the basics, which helped negate the need.) However, I am actively working on doing more. Notes: Added a secondary character name, as I do tend to play off ship roles often pretty, as I find them to be enjoyable. That being said, since these are not saved, I have added the primary name I can be seen going by. Notes: I will add, I haven't applied for anything for years, so I apologize if this app is a bit rough. I did try to research everything as I could, but midway through the backstory I was just going, and researching years and locations mostly for accuracy, though I do not have all the details. If some of it is out of place, I can always fix it. EDIT - Bolded the sections to make it more pleasing to the eyes. Edited May 15, 2023 by Syncron Link to comment
RustingWithYou
Hey, thanks for applying! Just a few questions for you. 1. You mentioned that T'sanis went to the Factory, which was likely his first experience in travelling to an alien world. How did he find adjusting to life on a new planet, and how did living in human space shape his view of aliens, especially given his background as a supporter of the Traditionalist Coalition? 2. What corporation does T'sanis work for on the Horizon, and in what position? 3. Despite having left Moghes behind, how does T'sanis feel about the current state of Moghes and the wider Hegemony? What corporation does T'sanis work for on the Horizon, and in what position? 3. Despite having left Moghes behind, how does T'sanis feel about the current state of Moghes and the wider Hegemony? 1: Initially, he found being on another world strange. The dregs around his new 'home' were also odd to him. However, while his clan was highly traditional, He was not 100% on board with that thinking. Of course, growing up around that kind of clan did push him towards those beliefs, So for the most part he did believe the aliens to be lesser, at first. Over the years it became more of a 'tolerate' mentality, since living in human space did open his eyes to the mistreatment of others, and seeing how things were done. 2: Likely Hephaestus Industries, since the Unathi do have a history with them. As for what position, I've been thinking about that. Since T'sanis does not have a traditional training in engineering, just what he learned on Moghes, and the factory, He would likely join on in whatever role he could get paid in, in this case likely on the mining crew, unless he was given a chance to do engineering. - In other words, This I am open to discussing to see which is believed to be more ideal for this character. 3: T'sanis highly disagrees with the current state of Moghes, as far as the leadership goes. I wouldn't call him a radical there however. He tried his hand at warfare, and you can see where that left him. He does understand however the differing beliefs religion wise. He himself was not an Aut'akh believer from the get go. So as far as the other groups disliking him for that, he just believes they need to be shown the way. But, he does see the bigger picture. He knows theres not much a single Unathi can do to change anything, so he is less focused on the situation on Moghes, and more interested in helping those who need it on Moghes, like those who need the prosthetics the factory provides. Extra: I would like to say though, T'sanis does intend to return to Moghes one day, it is his home, after all. But he wants to do everything in his power to help those in need, like he was helped. Triogenix
Hey! Sorry it's been a few days, Finals week has been kicking my ass. This application will hopefully be handled by tomorrow. Rusting already asked a bunch of questions so I'll keep mine minimal. 1. What hobbies does T'sanis have? What does he like to do in his free time? 2. What are T'sanis's thoughts on the other(mostly hegemonic) Unathi that also work within Hephaestus? Does he face discrimination? 3. Lastly, how do you see this character developing while playing him on the Horizon? Do you expect his position to change? Or his thoughts on his commune, the Hegemony, or other factions? 4. What does T'sanis think about the corporations as a whole? Link to comment

What does T'sanis think about the corporations as a whole? All good. Makes sense. 1: He likes to tinker with circuits. *(This really is a hobby of mine lol. I just wish I could copy paste the designs.), but outside of that, He tends to find enjoyment out of cleaning and studying his arms, since they are no longer natural scales. Mostly the circuits though. 2: I more or less touched on this in my last response, but he likely does face discrimination from those who are against the Aut'akh. But he doesn't view this too badly; He himself wasn't raised following his beliefs, And he does believe they just need to be enlightened. Outside of the religion issues however, he isn't viewed that badly most likely considering he tends to stick to himself. He has a goal, after all. 3: Depending on his starting position, I could see him changing roles eventually. If he starts off in Mining as an example due to needing his paperwork in order, or perhaps to get one of the degrees needed while studying off the clock, I could see him moving up, like you mentioned when reaching out. But his main goal is less about promotions, and more about trying to earn money for his goals. - As far as the commune, Moghes, and the likes, he does intend to eventually go back. But he wants to do as much as he can before doing so. 4: Overall, he isn't the biggest fan of corporates. But he does understand their use. His big dislike is working under them. Hes grown to prefer his commune's way of life. - That being said, much like above however, He will deal with it, and try to avoid making a show, since he wants to do whats best for his commune. - After all, in his eyes, they saved him, so now its his turn to help them.
