ZipZero Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 So, this is a collection of questions I feel are related enough to go into a single topic. For all alien species, at what age is one considered to be an adult? Both by their own species (which I imagine wouldn't be a thing for dionaea), and by humans/NT. What about education? Do skrell go to school for longer than humans do, reflecting their intellectual culture? How are their different levels of education divided up? Do tajara have schooling systems like Earth does, due to humanities influence during and after the revolutions? Do unathi even have universities? And here's another one I've seen debated, but never conclusively answered: How long can each of the species live before they die due to age? I imagine that skrell would live longer than the average human, given their level of technology, but what of the others? I've seen both unathi and tajara being described as living to ages comparable to a human, and as living for a much shorter amount of time. I'm most interested in skrell, myself, but I'm sure someone out there would be interested in the other species.
Guest Marlon Phoenix Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 At the end of the day there have to be universities or any form of modern society can't exist; no matter how exclusive they are. On Moghes, there is a jarring difference between the tribals and the cityfolk in life expectancy and education. City lizards would have, if they had the money and right clan name, access to universities. They'd learn history and whatever non-menial trade it was they were in for. Formal education in medicine, maths, reading... etc. Life-expectancy wise, it's about.... 80. Outside the cities in the Untouched Lands, out where the planet is wounded, the life expectancy is about 60. Public education is rare, and life is extremely feudal. Males mostly learn how to fight honourably and do other menial or labour-focused tasks, while females learn how to care for babies.
Guest Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 Before I dropped the project on Tool, Skrellian institutions were mostly local. Not many Skrell ventured outside their community to acquire an education elsewhere, the curriculum was more or less the same for each institution. Unlike human society, Skrell are enrolled from a younger age until they reach a point where they've sufficient knowledge and capability to survive by themselves. Survival skills were especially sought out after by Skrell.
Susan Posted April 18, 2015 Posted April 18, 2015 The Tajara education system prior to human involvement was basically work education, teaching people how to get ready for servitude. Now it closely mirrors human schooling, with Pre-5, middle school, high school, and colleges. Also, the average livespan of a Tajaran is 65 years, and they are considered 'adults' at sixteen years old.
Jamini Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Also, the average livespan of a Tajaran is 65 years, and they are considered 'adults' at sixteen years old. I wonder, is that number increasing at a rapid rate? Outside of the war on Ahdomai Taj as a whole have basically been uplifted with over a hundred or more years of human technology. While infrastructure takes time to build, it there's probably been some radical shifts. Especially in how food and medicine is grown/produced. Would average Tajara lifespan be longer for those that live in human territories (such as Little Ahdomai, and the ones that work for the station and live out of Tau Ceti/Mendell City) due to access to human medical facilities and health care?
